This episode begins a series on the Holy Spirit in Paul's letter to the Ephesians. Chapter one gives us the first reference that is so important because the "sealing" and the "earnest" is taken to mean different things than intended by the apostle.

This text supports one of the purposes of the Spirit's indwelling in those days, i.e., the assurance needed for first-century Christians that they were His children and would one day inherit from the Father.
