Speaker:

Everybody welcome back to another

edition of the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

Fall Fest is over Monday is upon us.

3

:

It's over.

4

:

Hopefully you got some good

rest last night after serving.

5

:

I'm always tired.

6

:

We're so tired.

7

:

I was talking to so many people.

8

:

Yeah.

9

:

Yeah.

10

:

And this isn't even prophecy.

11

:

Yeah.

12

:

I can guarantee you

that's what's happening.

13

:

We're doing our job.

14

:

That's what we're doing.

15

:

Yeah.

16

:

I was talking with somebody

earlier, uh, this week.

17

:

And we were talking about the concept

of Sabbath and resting Shabbat.

18

:

We're talking about recharging

versus is versus what drains us.

19

:

And we're never going to get

away from what drains us.

20

:

Right.

21

:

Interesting.

22

:

So, For somebody coming off a fall

Fest, that could be something super

23

:

draining, probably for a lot of people.

24

:

That's really draining.

25

:

To be on and to be in an environment

like that with a lot of people there.

26

:

Yeah.

27

:

Help us to understand.

28

:

We would say we're not strict Sabbitarians

in that we would say you have to take

29

:

a full day and observe that each week.

30

:

Yeah.

31

:

But it's, it's wise for us to rest it's

wise for us to recharge through the week.

32

:

And so maybe some of some wisdom

on, on that balance there so that we

33

:

can make sure that we have something

to pour out as we're looking to

34

:

serve other people at the same time.

35

:

So one of the things that Piper said a

long time ago, that still stuck with me

36

:

is that he thinks that you should have

24 hours of some kind of rejuvenating

37

:

activity happening throughout your week.

38

:

So you might have eight hours here, eight

hours there, and eight hours over there,

39

:

or 16 hours here and eight hours there.

40

:

Um, and I think that's helpful, you know?

41

:

And today's day and age.

42

:

Little bit of flexibility

that's required on what we do.

43

:

And I think that's a really

helpful starting place.

44

:

I think the bigger and more

important question is what is rest?

45

:

When we talk about rest, what is that?

46

:

And what is its purpose?

47

:

Where do we.

48

:

What does that concept entail?

49

:

And I think scripture gives

us some clarity about that.

50

:

Part of it is that we're to take one

day aside so that we could be recharged

51

:

so that we could do our work well.

52

:

The rest is there for the purpose of work.

53

:

And God demonstrates that through

the, the, the pattern of creation.

54

:

Uh, what did that means?

55

:

And in practical purposes, Uh,

because some PR people are parents.

56

:

You've got kids that you're watching

after 24 7, you know, people have

57

:

different jobs and occupations.

58

:

Um, and I read a book a while back.

59

:

Uh, I forget the name of it.

60

:

It's by this guy, who's a doctor and wrote

this book about what rest looks like.

61

:

Has you identify as at different

categories in our lives require

62

:

different kinds of rests.

63

:

So for instance, Um, if you're a

construction worker, And you're, you're

64

:

very physically active throughout the day.

65

:

We'll rest for you, then it's

going to look like less activity.

66

:

You're not going to go out rock

climbing or hiking probably, or

67

:

mountain biking because you've

physically exhausted yourself.

68

:

And so you need physical recuperation.

69

:

Conversely.

70

:

Yeah.

71

:

If you're a mom and you've been with kids

all day, rest for you may not look like

72

:

no social activity or social interaction,

but social interaction with adults.

73

:

That's the wrestle for you because you

now get to interact with someone at

74

:

a different level and that's helpful.

75

:

And that's restful, even

though it's a kind of work.

76

:

So I'll, I'll rest includes

just a different kind of work.

77

:

I think that's her theory

or working through anything.

78

:

That's a helpful one.

79

:

I appreciate that.

80

:

Cause I'm on my off days.

81

:

I mean.

82

:

Is it cheating?

83

:

I still, I like to read, I want to

read and I want to charge my mind

84

:

and kind of have different thoughts.

85

:

Percolating.

86

:

I enjoy that.

87

:

I enjoy sitting on the couch and

reading or wherever I'm sitting.

88

:

I enjoy that.

89

:

What I mean.

90

:

What are you?

91

:

What are your thoughts on rest?

92

:

Before we jump into this, I know

this is a helpful conversation.

93

:

Yeah, I'm with you.

94

:

I think that that paradigm of 24

hours throughout the week is great.

95

:

Um, we want to rest in a non sinful way.

96

:

And so we resting is not an excuse

for us to disengage in, in unplugged

97

:

from being an ambassador for Christ.

98

:

And so certainly we don't want to

rest in a way that that is wrong or a

99

:

waste of time or anything like that.

100

:

So I think it's.

101

:

It's helpful for us to

still be constructive, but

102

:

there's constructive way.

103

:

I'll be honest with you guys.

104

:

I spend like three hours on a

Sunday afternoon after church.

105

:

Like just on my couch.

106

:

I.

107

:

I'm like done.

108

:

Um, I'm watching baseball, uh,

football football right now.

109

:

Cause it's it's football season.

110

:

And, and sometimes I'll grab

my laptop and look at what next

111

:

week's passage is going to be.

112

:

Cause I'm starting to percolate there

and everything, but, but it's, it's

113

:

time just disengaged and recharging.

114

:

And that recharges me, but I

need to make sure that I'm not.

115

:

I'm not letting my guard

down as a believer.

116

:

And I think rest.

117

:

W if we're not careful can be.

118

:

Opportunities for a

foothold for the enemy to.

119

:

Laziness laziness.

120

:

Or even for sin and temptation,

if, if we're dereliction of duty.

121

:

Exactly.

122

:

I need to get away.

123

:

Spend me-time.

124

:

Rest, but rest is a Christian don't rest.

125

:

Don't take your Christian identity off.

126

:

When you rest, you may

take off your identity of.

127

:

Of what you do for a job, or maybe

you're not on, in the sense of serving

128

:

the body of Christ while you're resting.

129

:

But you are still a follower

of Christ while you're resting.

130

:

So we gotta be careful with that.

131

:

Yeah.

132

:

And it's interesting because

sometimes the restful things that

133

:

what's restful for, you might not be

restful for the next guy or the next

134

:

gal or your wife or your husband.

135

:

Um, and I think that that requires a

bit of a dance with your spouse and say,

136

:

what's going to be best for both of us as

we enjoy some time together and time off.

137

:

Um, and I think it's even, uh,

recently I was thinking about this.

138

:

You dropped off a lawnmower.

139

:

And I thought, you know,

what is my day off?

140

:

But I wanna, I'm gonna mow the

lawn because I thought this is.

141

:

I'm a desk jockey.

142

:

I'm really not around too much, except for

days like Sunday, when we're talking to

143

:

different people running around and that's

really exhausting cause that's taxing in

144

:

multiple areas, but ordinarily I'm sitting

at my desk or I'm standing at my desk or

145

:

I'm walking slowly at my desk treadmill.

146

:

Not really exhausting, attentive energy.

147

:

So something like that is, is

restful and kind of enjoyable.

148

:

It's a different kind of

work that brings rest.

149

:

If that makes sense.

150

:

Yeah.

151

:

Yeah.

152

:

That lawnmower that it works so well.

153

:

It doesn't.

154

:

So I still haven't got it working yet.

155

:

It was, it was working and

then it's like, you know what?

156

:

I'm done.

157

:

No, thank you.

158

:

I don't like this guy.

159

:

It's just not working out.

160

:

So I thought I was doing

pastor Ana a favor cause w.

161

:

You have.

162

:

I'm figuring it out.

163

:

Anyways, and I didn't mean to

give you a broken lawnmower.

164

:

Well, I was working, it

worked for a, for a minute.

165

:

I probably broke it.

166

:

What happened?

167

:

Probably.

168

:

That sounds good.

169

:

Okay.

170

:

All right, Luke, 16 to 17.

171

:

Uh, Luke 16, one through 13 here.

172

:

This one's, this one's tough.

173

:

The parable of the dishonest manager.

174

:

I like it.

175

:

And Jesus is so provocative.

176

:

May I get in the provocative points?

177

:

He's not afraid to use something.

178

:

That's just gonna be like,

oh, what do you mean by this?

179

:

Yeah.

180

:

Because this guy's going to lose his job.

181

:

And so before he goes out, he

says, Hey, let me call in the

182

:

debts that are owed to my master.

183

:

And I'm going to have you rewrite it.

184

:

I mean, this is dishonesty stealing.

185

:

Right.

186

:

He's lying.

187

:

He's encouraging other people to lie.

188

:

He's facilitating people's lives.

189

:

He's stealing from his, his boss.

190

:

It's like the casino

owner who's going under.

191

:

He's going bankrupt.

192

:

Yeah.

193

:

And suddenly he starts, you know,

everything's a jackpot or whatever,

194

:

you know, it's something like that.

195

:

It's it's it's city.

196

:

Yeah.

197

:

You don't expect this from Jesus.

198

:

And Jesus point is not go out and

do dishonest things to win people,

199

:

but he says, Hey, if, if the world

can be dishonest in shrewd and.

200

:

And does that in order to gain favor, we

should be able to think as Christians,

201

:

how not to be sinfully dishonest, but

shrewd with our relationships, with

202

:

others to win people for Christ and.

203

:

And particularly with the money,

with the money it's monies that use

204

:

your money to build some friendships.

205

:

I mean, talk about shrewd.

206

:

Yeah.

207

:

The Bible is Jesus is amazing here.

208

:

He's he's saying, Hey, use

your money to buy friendships.

209

:

Don't let money have a hold on.

210

:

You.

211

:

And this is for most

people, money is the God.

212

:

And remember, he's going to say

you can't serve God and money.

213

:

Right.

214

:

So it gives us a couple times.

215

:

Exactly.

216

:

Yeah.

217

:

And this is if it's, if this

is their God and you're giving

218

:

them access to their guide.

219

:

Well, suddenly you've gained a lot more

social credibility in the eyes of the

220

:

people that are following this God.

221

:

Right?

222

:

And now you have something that

they don't have and they can, they

223

:

can like, oh, tell me, tell me.

224

:

I want to know more

about your life, right?

225

:

Generous, which is unusual.

226

:

Yeah.

227

:

Yeah.

228

:

Yeah, it's interesting, man.

229

:

Yeah.

230

:

So, yeah, I mean, it's, it's.

231

:

Yeah.

232

:

We'd like to maybe spiritualize

it more than that, but, but

233

:

that's what he's saying.

234

:

He's saying my Lord,

man, use your resources.

235

:

So why's the earthly Maman

that you have incredibly wise?

236

:

Yes.

237

:

And, and make friends

with it for the kingdom.

238

:

That's right.

239

:

Better speaking to the kingdom, uh, verses

14 through 17, the law and the kingdom

240

:

of God is the title there in the ESV.

241

:

Um, and, uh, and this one is,

uh, Jesus again, confronting

242

:

the hypocrisy of the Pharisees.

243

:

Uh, again, knowing their love

of, as we just talked about

244

:

their love of money and status.

245

:

And so the first season and miss

the forest for the trees here, they

246

:

were so busy opposing the ones for

whom the Lord profits at pointed to

247

:

while others were busy, responding

to his teaching with great passion

248

:

and zeal and thereby in this context,

forcing their way into the kingdom.

249

:

We.

250

:

We saw a similar instance earlier

where that was more about the,

251

:

the oppression of the, the church

and the oppression of the kingdom.

252

:

This is about people saying,

no, we want in, let us in.

253

:

We are passionate and zealous for the

kingdom and for being allowed in here.

254

:

And so that's, what's going on.

255

:

Uh, in, in this context, it's a

good thing that they're trying to

256

:

force their way into the kingdom.

257

:

There.

258

:

Uh, verse 18, then he, again,

highlights and teaches here

259

:

on divorce and remarriage.

260

:

Um, everyone who divorces his wife

marries another commits adultery.

261

:

He who marries a woman divorced from

her husband, also commits adultery.

262

:

And this is why we would say church,

if, if you've committed adultery and

263

:

that ended in the divorce of your, your.

264

:

Previous marriage, you are biblically

bound to remain single or be reconciled

265

:

to that wife for the rest of your life.

266

:

Um, this is not a, uh, well, God.

267

:

Grace is big enough to give me a second

chance at marriage type situation.

268

:

God holds a marriage in such high regard

in our, our values in such high regards,

269

:

in that relationship in such high regard,

that when that sin is committed of

270

:

adultery and that ends in marriage in

divorce, which it doesn't always have to.

271

:

In fact, we're always going to try to

counsel towards reconciliation even in

272

:

those situations, but if it does go there.

273

:

The biblical teaching even here

from Jesus is, Hey, look then.

274

:

Then you are single for Christ

for the rest of your life.

275

:

Uh, at that point forward.

276

:

And so as far as divorce

and remarriage goes.

277

:

Uh, he, he is not silent on the issue.

278

:

What if your spouse dies?

279

:

If your spouse dies.

280

:

Like you're married and your spouse dies.

281

:

You're free to remarry.

282

:

Yeah.

283

:

Totally different scenario.

284

:

Totally.

285

:

This is not you being on

faithful to your vows, right?

286

:

Uh, if, if that happens,

you are free to remarry.

287

:

And, and on that note, if you are the

one that has been cheated on you are in.

288

:

And that ends in divorce.

289

:

Um, You are free to remarry as the,

the spouse who is offended because

290

:

the Bible says, it says though,

the person that cheated on you that

291

:

slept with someone else has died.

292

:

By uniting themselves to someone else.

293

:

And so even, you know,

Metaphorically speaking.

294

:

It's though they've died.

295

:

You are freed from that bond.

296

:

And you are free then as the one who

has been offended in that marriage.

297

:

Uh, to, to marry someone else.

298

:

Um, but all of this, it, as far

as remarriage goes, we would,

299

:

we would commend council.

300

:

Typical council pastoral council guidance.

301

:

Uh, walking through that,

that, that whole process.

302

:

Yeah.

303

:

Ultimately Christ is more interested in

our reconciliation than our disillusion.

304

:

A hundred percent.

305

:

Yes.

306

:

I'd agree.

307

:

I would agree.

308

:

And the gospel is big

enough for that to happen.

309

:

Um, one rightly understood.

310

:

Yeah.

311

:

Uh, then finally, uh, verses 19

through 31, we get the rich man and

312

:

Lazarus there's questions by Selma.

313

:

About, is this a parable?

314

:

Did this actually happen?

315

:

The reason they question is because

this is the only parable that we find

316

:

a name given to one of the characters.

317

:

It's a parable.

318

:

And, uh, and it's Lazarus, and this is not

the Lazarus clearly that we find from John

319

:

11, which we're going to get to tomorrow.

320

:

Uh, this is.

321

:

Okay, this is a, that would be a turn.

322

:

That'd be a horrible time.

323

:

I'm going to be awful.

324

:

What happened to you?

325

:

Oh, well you don't want to know guys.

326

:

It's Luke 16.

327

:

Let me tell you.

328

:

Yeah, I think this is a parable.

329

:

I agree.

330

:

I think it's a parable to, just

with some names from his flourishes.

331

:

Jesus is okay with creativity.

332

:

Right, right.

333

:

Uh, but how much of this do you

think we should take, literally?

334

:

I mean, is there going to be the ability

when we're in heaven to see across this

335

:

chasm, as it's defined and to see those,

or is there going to be communication

336

:

from those in hell to those in the.

337

:

The realm of heaven.

338

:

How, how much of this should we press

on, uh, on a literal understanding?

339

:

See, and that's where I think it's

oh, you're over-interpreting or you're

340

:

you have potential to over-interpret.

341

:

That's something that Jesus intends

for us to, to understand a point from.

342

:

Sure.

343

:

And that's a challenge with parables

that they don't function in the same way

344

:

that, uh, that an epistle might function.

345

:

If Paul were writing an epistle and

he says, these exact words about

346

:

this is what the afterlife is like.

347

:

Well, then you can say,

well, this is probably.

348

:

This has meant to be taken as

a literal statement about the

349

:

afterlife, but this is a story.

350

:

A story about two different destinations

based on two different ways of life.

351

:

And so I think the point is you

can't cross, you can't transcend one

352

:

from one barrier to another, which

I think is instructive about the

353

:

fact that there is no second chance.

354

:

You're not going to go to some kind

of purgatory and then say, okay, now

355

:

you can go to heaven after you've

burned off the sin that you committed.

356

:

Uh, so I think that's true.

357

:

I think there's elements of this

that we could say that's probably an

358

:

accurate way to understand it because

we have other texts that elucidate that.

359

:

Uh, but, but it's, uh, it's a mistake.

360

:

I think.

361

:

Uh, because parables don't work

this way to over-interpret the data.

362

:

What do you think on that?

363

:

I would agree.

364

:

Yeah.

365

:

Yeah.

366

:

Each, each detail is not meant

to be interpreted in a parable.

367

:

Yeah.

368

:

Each person doesn't always represent.

369

:

Another thing.

370

:

Object lesson that's it's a story

it's meant to have an impact a punch.

371

:

Yup.

372

:

Yup.

373

:

I would agree with that.

374

:

I do find it interesting.

375

:

In verse 31 when he says to

Lazarus, he says, if they don't

376

:

hear Moses and the prophets, neither

will, they are to the Richmond.

377

:

Not to Lazarus, but to the Richmond,

neither will they be convinced if someone

378

:

should rise from the dead foreshadowing.

379

:

Um, Yeah, and this is

also I think the answer.

380

:

Why, if you've ever thought, man,

why doesn't Jesus just show up today.

381

:

And and say, Hey look guys, I'm Jesus.

382

:

I'm real.

383

:

Why doesn't Jesus allow us to do

the miracles today of resurrecting

384

:

somebody from the dead or, you know,

healing, somebody or walking on water.

385

:

Because that wouldn't produce faith.

386

:

Faith is not rooted to a miracle.

387

:

It's an act of God that.

388

:

It comes by hearing right by hearing in

that the work of the spirit within us,

389

:

as we talked about yesterday at church.

390

:

So this is in part, the reason why that.

391

:

That Jesus doesn't just show up and

be like today, here I am, because

392

:

that's, that's not going to cause

people to believe that the hardness

393

:

of heart, the veiled, the blind eyes.

394

:

It needs an active God being the

regeneration that has to take

395

:

place for that to occur, which

is why we're a Bible church.

396

:

We want the Bible to be taught because

faith comes from hearing Romans 10, 17.

397

:

And that hearing is not

just a general hearing.

398

:

It's hearing of the word of Christ.

399

:

We think.

400

:

Biblically speaking, our

conviction is that people

401

:

respond through the word of God.

402

:

And I can, I can remember times

and I'm like, well, that's done.

403

:

I heard that word.

404

:

And I was moved by it, or eyes compelled

by the truth of what was being taught.

405

:

And the word is powerful and

sometimes we forget that.

406

:

Yeah.

407

:

We have 17 then.

408

:

Uh, verses one through four, a

good reminder of us just to take

409

:

sin seriously and be careful not

to cause other people to sin.

410

:

When it says little ones, it's not

necessarily referring to children,

411

:

but even a new and immature

Christians, young Christians.

412

:

Uh, we got to be careful not to.

413

:

With anyone.

414

:

Uh, put it, put a stumbling block

in there in their path, or cause

415

:

anyone to send lead anyone into sin.

416

:

Ourselves or anyone else.

417

:

And so this is just a good reminder

that there's gravity towards that.

418

:

And we need to be careful against that.

419

:

And then verses five through six,

then, uh, just the, the call to

420

:

again, faith like a mustard seed.

421

:

This is not about manifesting by the

way we talked about that recently,

422

:

this is not about saying I can

manifest whatever I want there.

423

:

This is governed by the same thing that.

424

:

We talked about John.

425

:

Uh, last week, not this not

yesterday, but a week ago about,

426

:

Hey man, when we're praying, we're

praying for God's will to be done.

427

:

And he's going to answer our

prayers, whatever we ask.

428

:

If it's in accordance with his will.

429

:

And so we gotta be, that's gotta be

our heart, not just saying, okay, well

430

:

I've got enough faith, so I'm going to

believe that this is going to happen.

431

:

And then when it doesn't,

it's like, oh man, I got it.

432

:

I got to have more faith.

433

:

Verses seven through 10, then we get to,

um, just the, this is a little harsh in

434

:

some ways it could come across that way.

435

:

At least from Jesus, he's saying, Hey,

don't pat yourself on the back for doing

436

:

this, doing what you're supposed to do.

437

:

This is one of my favorite things.

438

:

Don't get hung to your high horse

and be like looking out great.

439

:

What can I great.

440

:

I am, uh, because you're

doing what is commended of a

441

:

Christian in the first place?

442

:

I love this.

443

:

I think we, this, this is what it

means to have a high view of God.

444

:

We don't look at ourselves and say,

man, I'm doing such a great job.

445

:

I look at my.

446

:

And I look at myself right now as a pastor

and this many years as a Christian thing.

447

:

I still got so much further to go.

448

:

I'm not even close to

where I need to be yet.

449

:

Um, as a pastor, I'm not

close to where I should be.

450

:

I am who is sufficient for these things.

451

:

Paul will later say, and Jesus here

affirms that understanding of ourselves.

452

:

We are unworthy servants.

453

:

We've only dealt.

454

:

What was our duty?

455

:

It's not like we're

going above and beyond.

456

:

We're doing what's right.

457

:

We're doing this appropriate.

458

:

We're doing fitting according to what

Jesus himself has done on our behalf.

459

:

So I love this.

460

:

I think this is the kind of thing

that ought to capture someone's heart

461

:

and say, this is why I do what I do.

462

:

I can serve mightily, strongly

sacrificially and no, ma'am, I'm

463

:

not doing anything exceptional.

464

:

I'm doing what God has empowered me to

do, uh, and which, and it makes sense.

465

:

It's not excessive.

466

:

There's no such thing as extravagance

when it comes to giving to the Lord,

467

:

because he's already set the bar so high.

468

:

We'll never reach it.

469

:

So then how do we balance that with the.

470

:

Which, what I think is the right thing

for us to do, which is to notice the

471

:

labors of another believer and say,

Hey, thanks for working so hard.

472

:

Thanks for doing this.

473

:

I appreciate what you're doing.

474

:

I think we, we definitely do that.

475

:

Scripture has a place for us

to say, look, we're to outdo

476

:

one another in showing honor.

477

:

So there, there is a place for us

to say, look, I want to honor people

478

:

around me, but even that as I do that

for you, I should, I'm not expecting.

479

:

Someone to come beside me is, Hey pastor

ratcheted, great job honoring that guy.

480

:

What a good T what a good thing you did.

481

:

I mean, if they do, I'm not

going to say it again on my face.

482

:

I'm doing this because I'm

another way to serve it.

483

:

Right.

484

:

But what motivates and compels

me is, is not a sense of I'm

485

:

trying to get your approval.

486

:

Yeah.

487

:

'cause.

488

:

I love my Lord.

489

:

I'm getting his approval from this

and he's going to, he's going to

490

:

commend me when the time is right.

491

:

When the time is right.

492

:

Yep.

493

:

Um, but we should, we should look at

other people and notice them because

494

:

we seek to love God and love others.

495

:

We should honor people.

496

:

We should say you're

doing a great job, man.

497

:

So proud of you for the work that

you're doing, we should do those things.

498

:

They're not, they're not

exclusive categories.

499

:

Yeah, that's good.

500

:

That's good.

501

:

From here, he goes on talks about

10 lepers and he says, you know,

502

:

these 10 lepers come to him with

the plague, the disease of leprosy.

503

:

Um, and he heals all 10, but only

one is going to be truly cleansed

504

:

because again, he heals all 10.

505

:

Um, and yet only one is, is going to

come back to him and say, Hey, you

506

:

know what, thank you for doing that.

507

:

And Jesus.

508

:

Uh, it says, and it's, it's, it's,

uh, such an indictment on the rest.

509

:

He says, weren't there 10 of you.

510

:

And yet why here's only

just one of you right now.

511

:

And so this is just about gratitude.

512

:

Something that we need to be mindful

of as well as, as we are forgiven as.

513

:

As we're redeemed that we need to

make sure that we are mindful of that,

514

:

that we never lose sight of giving.

515

:

Thanks to God for what he's

done in our lives, in that.

516

:

Verses 20 through 37, then we

get into the end of chapter 17.

517

:

And here is that the kingdom's arrival.

518

:

And this is interesting.

519

:

Uh, this is interesting because it's

a, a unique, uh, Opening here when

520

:

he he's being asked by the Pharisees.

521

:

When is the kingdom of God going to come?

522

:

And his response.

523

:

He says, the kingdom of God is not

coming in ways that can be served,

524

:

nor will they say, look, here it is.

525

:

Are there for behold?

526

:

The kingdom of God is

in the midst of you now.

527

:

This verse could be taken to say,

well, doesn't that seem to imply

528

:

amillennialism, amillennialism being

odd and then negation, and then

529

:

millennial the millennial kingdom.

530

:

So a non millennial kingdom or a

non-literal millennial kingdom,

531

:

they would say it's a metaphorical.

532

:

Uh, millennium that we find ourselves in.

533

:

Now it's a spiritual

reality that we are here.

534

:

That Christ is reigning

spiritually in our hearts.

535

:

So that seems like that may

be, what's be supported here.

536

:

Look.

537

:

Or behold for the kingdom of

God is in the midst of you.

538

:

But what Jesus was saying there is, he

was saying that because the king was

539

:

in the midst of them, Jesus was there.

540

:

So he's trying to get them to understand.

541

:

Again, his identity as

the king, as the Messiah.

542

:

And even from here, he goes on and

talks about the, the future coming,

543

:

which should imply to us that this

is going to be literal in the future.

544

:

He says when the kingdom comes in the

future, It's going to be obvious verses

545

:

23 through 24 there, they're not going

to have to say, look or look over there.

546

:

It's going to, everybody's

going to see it.

547

:

The lightning is going to flash

across the sky, so it will be

548

:

with the son of man in his day.

549

:

But, but before that, he's going

to have to suffer verse 25.

550

:

And so the kingdom.

551

:

Is going to come, especially upon

those who have not lost their

552

:

life in, in, um, at that point.

553

:

And they're going to be.

554

:

Uh, taken up into, uh,

into, to his presence.

555

:

We believe in, in the rupture prior

to the kingdom, then you've got

556

:

the tribulation millennial kingdom.

557

:

But here, when Jesus says, look,

the kingdom is in your midst.

558

:

He's not implying, this is a spiritual

kingdom and we should throw away the

559

:

future millennial kingdom ideology here.

560

:

He's saying he is the king.

561

:

He's trying to get them to understand

that that, that the Messiah is

562

:

here, but then the future king of

that's going to come in the future.

563

:

And man, there's going to

be judgment with that too.

564

:

Some are going to be taken.

565

:

Some are going to be left behind

those taken, by the way, that's

566

:

not the taking and rapture.

567

:

That's.

568

:

Those that are taking a

judgment at that point.

569

:

Um, when the, the, the kingdom

is, is finally established.

570

:

Helpful.

571

:

Clarify.

572

:

I'm sure it was.

573

:

I'm sure it was all right.

574

:

Hey, let's pray.

575

:

And then we'll be done with this episode.

576

:

We thank you for your word.

577

:

And, uh, we, we do want to, even as this

chapter, 17 opened up takes in seriously

578

:

and rooted out anywhere we possibly can.

579

:

We want to be like the one leper that

came back to give thanks for the fact

580

:

that you saved us from our sin and

you've cleansed us and you've forgiven

581

:

us and we don't want to ever lose sight

of that or act presumptively or to

582

:

say, yeah, of course I deserve that.

583

:

And so guard.

584

:

God, I pray that you guard us from

such a presumptive or prideful mindset.

585

:

Keep us humble.

586

:

Keep us grateful and keep us

looking for the return of Christ.

587

:

We pray in Jesus name.

588

:

Amen.

589

:

Amen.

590

:

All right soon.

591

:

Noon tomorrow for another episode of

your, uh, reading your Bibles words.

592

:

Yep.

593

:

Keep, bring your Bible students tomorrow.

594

:

For another episode of

the daily Bible podcast.

595

:

Hear that.
