Doing all right. we're we're a week behind cause we had some personal things that that kinda stopped us.

And you know what's funny is is getting sick is is not cool anymore. Like you don't just get a little cold. Like you get really freaking sick. I don't know, since it seems like since COVID, every time I get sick, I am dying.

The the funny thing is is that though that even so we how many times we've done this show super ill like just horribly sick.

There was one time I was so sick I was crying and just horrible and I had to do the the podcast and I I manned up and did it and went right back to being sick and crying 'cause I was just achy and not feeling good.

I remember that too that it was like 'cause I remember editing that one and it was like I could hear you mute on the other side. And then Yeah, and then come back and talk and then mute it. Cause w when I edit it on the on the audio trail, there's like a really big spike when you hit the mute button. So I know I know where to to see it at. So it was kind of interesting.

Well, I'm good I'm glad that you know that though, because there are times where I can't I just I can't stay online for the whole hour we're doing this. It's crazy. But you you've gone through it too. You all the y with your surgery and and and being sick, you poor thing have just come in you're like, I wanna die.

When when we start yeah, two fifty because of it being the Yeah. That's crazy. I didn't think we'd get past ten. W I think that was the goal at first was to get past ten.

Of the United States being two fifty, kinda funny.

I I mean, yeah. Yeah. The goal was in the very beginning that the cause I remember reading up on podcasts at the time in 2021 and they said most don't get past eleven. And I was like, okay, I we are gonna get past at least eleven of these. Cause I wanted to be like outside the minority of of people who give up on these things, though.

Yeah, it's gnarly. It's like you sit there and you're like, yeah, like that's it's a lot. So speaking of the world, we were we were talking about the World Cup before we got on here.

And and you were like, let's talk about how people are starting to understand soccer more.

Mm-hmm. I I've never been a fan of soccer. even when I was married, my ex liked to play and so did my daughter and I worked on Saturdays, so that was my excuse not to not to n you know, just not to watch all the games and and and also it it gave my my ex and my daughter who who's adopted gave them a chance to bond. So I kinda left that alone and gladly because soccer's never been my thing but

But as of late with the World Cup, you can't help it. It's on every restaurant. It's on at on my friend's house. People are having viewing parties. And so I, having time, got into it. And I'm enjoying the World Cup. Like I I was kind of sad Brazil, Mexico, the US, they're all out of it. But man, those people are amazing how they could play. And

They I don't know, they kind of gave me a a reason to respect their game for sure. 'Cause they're kicking ass.

It's so for me, I'll I'll like I don't like soccer. I but for different reasons. I'm not a big fan of it because I think it's a bunch of guys who just fall down when they barely get hit. so like there's a great meme that I have and it's like you the things that would make soccer better, and it's like

take players off the field and make it, you know, six on six and then make the field shorter, put ice skates on and make it ice. And then basically make it hockey. Cause it's look, they're very similar sports when it comes to being a goal on each side and like

There's an offside rule and a bunch of other things. But so for me it's very difficult to watch. I just think like, okay. But when it comes to the talent of the people playing, it's incredible how talented they are. I mean, it they're they're hitting goals from super far out.

Like, you know, f thirty yards away. That you know, it it's it's pretty amazing. What I like about what's going on is is how people have become fans, even though it might be for a short time. You know what I mean? Like people are watching the World Cup. it'll be interesting to see how the ratings are now that there's only f you know, a few teams left in it.

but that being said, you know, now that Mexico's not in it and the United States is in it and Canada's not in it, so the three countries that are hosting it, it it definitely makes it a tad harder, I think. But if you're a soccer fan or a football fan,

I think that it's going to it's going to be big. Like the the f finals are going to be a lot bigger than than people think. so we're recording this on a Saturday. So I know Belgium's in it. No, I'm sorry, Spain and France have already gone through as of right now.

and then today it's Norway and England and Argentina and Switzerland. So after today, which is Saturday, but you're hearing this on Wednesday, the pretty much by the time you hear this, everything will be almost taken care of. Wednesday, so Tuesday will be France and Spain.

And then Wednesday, the day that this is out, will be the last two from the four I just said. So by you know, next Sunday the World Cup will be

It'll be done. And I think my beer drinking days will be done too because it seems like it seems like every time I I go and watch the game I'm drinking. I and I don't even drink, so who knew.

Kind of cool. It's kinda cool. But I like rugby. If you've ever watched the animals that play rugby, those are my people. The men are built like brick shit houses. They're cocky as hell. They're there's no way they're gonna let somebody get over on them without a fight. I there's something so primal about that. I love it. You know, watching guys be guys, because you know, even in football now, a football for me is kind of taking a back seat because they can't

do anything there's all these new rules there's you know they're they're they're taking the fun out of watching people crash into each other and rugby they don't even wear pads. I I'm amazed. I love that.

Right. Yeah, it's rugby's a whole other level of violence.

yeah, it's fantastic. It's like how hockey used to be too, when they could like beat on each other. I don't know why I like that. Mm-hmm.

Well, because it's primal. I mean, you could if you wa like my whole thing is this is if you like rugby, watch hockey for a season. You'll never go back because it's way faster. The hits

That's that's true, but they wear pads because they're going thirty miles an hour.

Whoa, you should these rugby people ain't going much less. Like have you watched a rugby game?

I I think the the Yeah, the fastest runner I think only goes like I wanna say eighteen miles an hour.

Yeah, but at they're going for that ball at eighteen miles an hour and everybody else is too. Like it's I don't know. I I I like hockey and I would never miss a chance to see a game. If somebody said you want to go, I would go. I don't buy tickets to go, but I would do that. But rugby, ooh. I'm amazed.

Yeah, it's pretty pretty wild. So the the peak guy in of running this is a runner like a Usain Bolt, the hundred meter, he went twenty seven miles an hour. Pretty fucking crazy. Yeah. But he's the fastest man on the planet. Yeah. So I think the average person runs like you know, you can run like fifteen miles an hour. I

My thing with rugby is the that they just r run into big blocks of other human beings. Like that is

They all run together and then they bounce off each other, fall down, and then somebody ends up with the ball. It's great.

Yeah, it's pretty wild. And have you ever seen them where they pick each other up to catch it? So I was watching I'm gonna say an Instagram video, but I'm not sure. But it was women's rugby. and the shit these girls were doing was crazy. They like lift each other.

I can't remember that woman's name that just lifts her lifts them up. But she looks like is she a man? Is she a woman? She's kinda got like she's scary. She's freaking scary.

And the the legs on these human beings are and I have I have big legs. I have like my calves are eighteen and a half inches around. These girls have like thighs that are they gotta be in their twenties. Like they're just these, you know, massive muscular and they also do the same thing. Don't wear any pads. I I

I'm assuming that it's a little lighter because of like I don't see a lot of headgear on the girls where like the men, the men wear headgear. Because like or at least some of them. Because they'll end up getting they'll end up getting cauliflower ear. You know, from getting bashed in the ears so many times. Kind of like like UFC fighters. If you've never seen a cauliflower ear, people.

no, I have a friend that's a UFC fighter and he has just one. One of his ears looks like it's been brutalized a little bit.

It man. I I've seen some guys that if you've never seen cauliflower ear people, look it up. It it's crazy. It's so it's so brutal. Like the whole of your ear looks like it's like a pin drop because there's so much cartilage that has been swollen and then it won't go down.

It's pretty crazy. With all that's going on, I I think that like we talked about it last week. I think the best thing that happened is all these people from other countries have come to America and have realized that like this is a really cool country. the the partying alone

I think that some of the videos that I saw from the English and the Scottish and the Germans where they didn't realize that we could party so hard. I I thought that was the best part. They were like

There's no race that can't party.

Right. No, but it was inter because I think that they had this, you know, like everything, they had this pre-consumed notion that Americans couldn't go.

And they were interviewing some Scottish dudes and they were like, yeah, these people in Boston can drink, man. He goes, Will they're you know, walking with us hand in hand. And even the flip side, the people in Boston were like, these Scots do they can go. Like they drink and they party all night. And then they get up the next morning to go to a soccer match at like 10 a.m. Like and then like I said last

last week on the or the week before on our episode, they don't tailgate in Europe. So so like it's a new thing for them, which a lot of them were like, man, I we I we want to do this at home. Like we gotta find a way to like you know, I I haven't been to a a live game in quite a while just 'cause it's it's gotten well out of hand price wise.

But the last game I went to was probably about ten years ago. Went to a Raider game in Oakland. And I hadn't been in so long and I never realized like people bring when I mean barbecues, I'm not talking like Yeah, I'm not talking about a fucking hibachi. I'm t yeah, like they gotta drag it on a a dually. Yeah.

They're bringing pit barbecues sort of things, yeah. Right.

On a trailer. They got it on a trailer and they're rolling it in.

I was like, this is the greatest thing in the world. Like, and and I look, Raider fans get their own shit. Yeah. And and look, I'm a Raider fan. And and I will tell you that Raider fans are special. but I will tell you that like I I saw more so I went and saw they were playing the Colts at the time.

They're a little out there.

Raider fans were beating each other up. They weren't even beating Colts fans up. It's it's almost it's like kinda like Dodger fans. Dodger fans love fighting each other too. Dodger fans are just Raider fans in the off season.

Yeah, sometimes they get into it, that's for sure. there that there's some truth to that.

Truth. Yeah. Dodger Stadium right now is a fucking dangerous place to go. Like, there's fights in the parking lot every single time you go there. It's insane. Not like it was when we were younger. but like I found that to be interesting. That like, and people were offering food to everybody, like, hey, come on, you know, blah blah blah. So I think with this soccer being, you know.

It's in Texas, it's in LA, it's I don't know if they're tailgate in LA, but they're tailgating in Texas. And all these people just are so amored by like how people are here. They're they're nice and they're having a good time and they're offering food and they're drinking with them. I think it's making

Probably, but I think that for the most part, like

If you're not one of the big teams, and and I mean that by like favored, I'm sure the the guys from Scotland that came here gave two shits that they lost. Did they want to go far? Probably. But they hadn't been there in I think like I think it was like 25 years or some shit. They didn't care. They were like, we're in the World Cup, let's go to America and party. So it you know, I think they've they've realized, kind of like we do,

It's about going to the game too. You know, y you can go to a game and you can lose and you can leave going, you know, it was a good game. At least we had a good time, we had fun. I think Americans now are kind of seeing that's how soccer is. Where you can go to a soccer match, people are generally good. You know, there's not they're not fist fighting down the fucking aisleways.

Learning the game is difficult for me. Like well, I take that back. With the exception of I I the off sideline moving it baffles me. because I'm a hockey player and I understand there's an off sideline. So it moving all the time is very difficult to me. But I I can't lie and tell you that I haven't watched a lot of Matt. We have it on at my work. Yeah.

You know, I I work in wholesale distribution. We have one, two, three, four, five. There's like six TVs that are on in my work and when soccer when we World Cup's on, we watch it. So I've watched a lot of soccer. so it it's been fun and and there's a c I would say most of the people at my work

Yeah, it's it's a it's a cultural event. Look, if we wanna be perfectly honest, like the Super Bowl has forgotten how many people watch the Super Bowl. I'm gonna look it up. But Super Bowl's great. how many people

it's a lot. And then I'm gonna tell you how many people watch the World Cup. So s well, look, that to be fair, the NFL right now is worldwide. It's it's huge. So the total audience is about a hundred and thirty million people to watch the Super Bowl. A hundred and thirty million people.

I mean i I I know that like w we're we're spoiled by like you know saying a million, but a hundred and thirty million people, that's a lot. That's like half of the United States. So how many people?

It's it's gotta be it's gotta be insane. Like it's gotta be insane crazy. so total people watch the World Cup is about between one and five billion.

So one hundred and thirty million to one point

Two five. Yeah. So the two thousand twenty-two World Cup, five billion people engaged in the whole tournament. The the finals of of two thousand twenty-two was one point four billion people watched one game in two thousand twenty-two.

How many how many years does it take before there's another one? Every four years? So it's like the Olympics, only for soccer. Okay.

Wow, so it's going up quite a couple couple million every couple

Yeah, it it's yeah, every couple years. Which I'm sure two thousand twenty-four or two thousand twenty six will probably be at least the same, one point four. You know, I think with with America probably watching more, it might go up. 'Cause you know there's we we here in America we love to we like to pile on things that are popular at the time.

You know, I'm not big on that, but for the World Cup, because it's it's been on everywhere, you can't help it. It's it's like we're it's almost like it's forced for us to to watch it. It's it's everywhere. Like I c I I have not gone to a Mexican restaurant in weeks where they didn't have you know, where they have like seven or eight different TVs and and every last one has a soccer game. You can't help it.

Yeah. There there's a there's a place, my favorite Mexican place down the street from me. There's soccer there every single time you go in. Yeah. Unless it's Sunday. Unless the NFL's on. I and baseball. baseball's pretty big. Dodger games are always on there. But besides that, like

Dodgers are doing fabulous too. They're ahead by like ten games or something.

Yeah, we watched we went in there one time, me and my boy went in there to get food one day, and there was like three different soccer matches on. Because like they'll they'll put on soccer from England, you know, like all the different leagues all over the world have games, so it it's the biggest sport on the planet. For good reason because you can play it for free.

that's not a knock, it's the truth. Like like when people go, you know, blah blah blah, and I go, look, anyone can play soccer. If you can get a ball, anyone can play. And people do. Not not for not for playing football as you get older. Like you have to play in pads.

Where and like you can't just go play ice hockey. Where you can play basketball. Basketball can be played in the park, the same with with soccer. what I'm trying to say is that it it's you're you're thrown into it at a very early age if you like soccer, mostly all over the world. Where like, you know, if you're if you live in Ireland, there's a there's a

soccer field somewhere or a pitch. Sorry, I gotta use the right word. A soccer pitch. but so I I understand why it's so big because yeah you're you as a child they go go go kick the ball outside. You know what I mean? Like go do it. Where I and I think look there's a lot of sports even here. Baseball, if you got a glove, a ball and a bat, you can find a way to play.

You might not play a full game, but you can find a way to play around. Basketball, very similar. Football, you can do it, but not on the level you at some point you have to put pads on to become, you know, a professional player.

Yeah. I have I have a set of friends that started playing on Thanksgiving morning and I've gone out to see them just because I like to do that and they don't have pads on and they brutalize each other. It's a great game. But they're it's flag and they're still going at it and I don't know. It's so much fun to watch. There's something wrong with me.

Those those Thanksgiving games can get a bit out of hand.

Everybody goes home messed up. It's hilarious. Like how many how many ice packs? Last year it was how many ice packs do I bring for these fools that are gonna play? And I have these little ones that they're probably about four inches by about three inches maybe. They're just little tiny ones that you put in a little ice chest. But I bought a twelve pack because when you're riding you could stick one in your pants and it keeps you kinda cool 'cause it gets hot on a bike.

So I brought I brought all of those and every last one of got used and then my friend had some and hers got used. She had about six. So we had about I don't know, eighteen of them and they all got used that year. It's hilarious how they are.

Yeah. It's it's a brutal thing where I I mean, look, I I there's a park not too far from my house. Like I can walk there. But I usually throw my dog in the car so he can stick his head out the window and we go over there and I put him on a thirty foot leash and I walk with him.

Well, obviously, with the with soccer, they play soccer there all the time. And it's really wild because since the World Cup's been there, I haven't seen him play in a while. Yeah, like they it's like they must put games on for like, you know, like if Mexico was playing, they probably changed the game to a different day. So they could play. Because everyone wants to go watch the game. But I've seen some

Just walking the dog around, I've seen some pretty brutal like slide tackles on, you know, and and they're not kids that are playing in these rec leagues. They're they're you know, they're like 30 and 40-year-old men. Maybe even 50. So a and then you'll see like

I I like to watch because I'm obviously not a huge fan, but I understand the game and I know the flow, the ebb and flow of the game. And it's funny to watch them kind of far away because I can tell you who the twenty-year-old is. Because he's just running circles around. Running circles around dudes. And you're like, there's a young guy. And every team's got one or two of

And they're generally like midfieldmen, you know, midfield or forwards guys that can score. It it's fun to watch. And and they'll just run circles around these poor old guys. And in my head, I'm like, hey, wait a second, I I'm the old guy. Like, that's me. But I'm so beat up. I I you know, even messing around. I I thought about before I had my shoulder surgery. I was thinking they're like, it would be really fun to play like in a softball league.

But then I as before I got my surgery, I as I was throwing the ball around, I realized like I I can only play second or play first because I can't throw the ball anymore. Like my arm is just not strong enough. and now it'd be interesting once I get my my throwing motion back, I'm hoping maybe it'll be stronger. You know, because it's

I I don't know. I I remember I used to be

I used to be a catcher and I was really good. I could be squatting and throw the ball and pick somebody off at second, at third, no problem. No problem. Never even get up. And when I started shit, this was years ago. There probably twenty years ago. So I was like thirty five, thirty-six, I couldn't throw anymore. I lost my ability to throw and I was shocked. Like I was like, why does that go away? Now piss me off and I

could throw something at you and hit you right in the head with it, I could I'm still accurate but it's gotta get that level for me to be able to to do it. I have to be mad.

a and I'm sure that if you know, if you started practicing again, y it would come back because there is that motor skill would pop back in at some point. You might just have to do it. Yeah. Well, and it's muscle memory. It's your your body remembering how to do it. It's just, you know. it's kinda like me. Like I've I haven't been in a wrestling ring in a long time. Like

For real. Like I haven't been in a ring in like twelve years. But I've been in a ring and I've ran the ropes a couple of times and like just for giggles. And you know, it is there's muscle memory you have to relearn, like timing and how to do this and so I think with any sport it's the same. You you would probably get back to it. Now, I bet you that even if you got your

your muscle memory back, it would kill your arm. Like the first couple of times, you would go home in so much pain you'd have to ice it. Because your body is like, I haven't done this in so long. What are you doing? Yeah, I messed around one time hitting some balls with a friend of mine. It

Just grounding balls. And I was like, man, that was so much fun. And I went home that night and my rib cage hurt so much from just just from twisting. Because your body isn't used to it. And I was like, yeah, I'm I'm not in good shape. I need to I need to fix this. So so through this, the bigger question for for us is

So do you I'll throw it out there because I we talked about it off air. Do you think that because of this World Cup, obviously being in North America, do you think it's going to drive the level of interest up? Do you think soccer will be

better like on a on a level of not just people playing because I think everyone plays. It's do you think like 'cause we have a professional team in LA. There's the galaxy. There's there's do you think it's gonna help that at all or do you think it's well it'll just go right back?

I think it is. People are digging people are digging the the soccer matches. So I wouldn't imagine once you once you're hooked you're in, you know.

I hope so. I think it'd be good for the sport. unfortunately, come August, football starts. And I Yeah, but I just think that look, the NFL in America, as much as people like to say that that baseball is America's game, football is America's game.

Well, and that I love to watch.

You know, I had a I have a lot of friends that are saying that they're not watching football anymore because it's fixed. And I mean they really like last year they were on it. Conspiracy theories, all kinds of shit. And I don't know I don't wanna know. I like I like watching football. Don't tell me. Don't fuck it up for me. I just wanna watch it and I hope it's not.

I mean

I mean, here's my argument to that. This is my argument when people tell me crazy shit like that. And here I am the professional wrestler in a in a quote unquote sport that is not real. In that case, everything is fixed. Everything. Every sport, every election, every everything. You then you can fix the world. Because

Anyone can take a bribe. A coach can call a bad call or purposely that he knows isn't gonna work. There's just just watch it for what it is. Like, cause if because if you sit there and start really thinking about things, you'll think the world is not real. Your vote doesn't count. The sports you watch aren't real. You know, it's it's too easy to fake something. It just is.

We live in a world of, you know, AI now. AI can is getting in ten years AI there'll be full movies that aren't real with absolutely not no person in them.

And again, it it was very, very short. This guy was trying to show you how the future was. I think it was like six minutes of a movie that he made completely with AI. And and it looked almost spot on real. And I'm talking everything: backgrounds, foregrounds, color, people. It had multiple people in it.

It still felt a little off. A little here's the better word I think I can use, Tina. It felt robotic. Maybe that's that's the s the the word I'm kind of looking for. Everything seemed robotic. So, you know, but this is what? What generation of AI are we on? I think the like a chat GBT is like five in.

Like this is still new. I hope not. I hope that it doesn't look I think AI is cool, it's fun, it has its place, but it should never replace human beings. Cause when it does, then it doesn't matter anymore. We're already we're already gone.

It's it's kind of like using it for this show. I I don't mind using AI to go, hey, what should we talk about? And it can give me a list of things. But when we just program something to have our voices do a show, then it's already over. So because there that gives you feeling. They they're a hundred percent.

You know what? That could actually be done right now. They could take our episodes and do that. That's kind of creepy.

A hundred percent you could do it. Because that the there's a way to you teach AI to learn our voice patterns and how we speak. And then you just go, Hey, give me an audio show with this topic using our voices. No, because here's the thing. At some point, well, first of all, I don't think it would ever work because AI would never cuss as much as I do.

No. Well you'd have to tell it to. Do you know what I mean? Like if if you just typed in use our voices and do a show on, you know, computer graphics, it would do a complete show on there. But if you'd listen to the show and and it I didn't say the F word five times, they'd go, That doesn't seem like Rob. And if you didn't I I know you probably don't realize it, but I listen to you a lot. You know, you have a certain laugh.

Yes. So like when you laugh about something, you have a certain laugh. AI, unless it listened to multiple shows, you know, you'd have to train it to understand that you laugh a certain way. So like this is where like things would go off the boards. So sure, can you fake sports? Absolutely. I think that there's you can you can say they're fixed all you want. Yes, because there's money involved.

So yeah, you could totally do it. I I think it's a bit harder with like things like I mean I guess you could do it with soccer, but it would be very difficult because there's so many players. You know, like you'd really have to you'd have to have a lot of people on board. Where in like football it'd be a little easier.
