Last time claimed that home improvement projects helped with the Revolutionary War. Let's prove it. I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

During the war, George Washington sent letters back home with instructions for various home projects. It's puzzling to historians why he'd be so immersed in these projects while the war was going.

But some psychologists from UCLA argue that these small projects and decisions were helping him focus and giving him confidence for the bigger, more important decisions he was going to be making later that day or the next. Turns out, making small decisions can help shift our mindset from feeling like a passenger to feeling like a driver, giving us a sense of control and accomplishment.

For Washington, when his brain was overwhelmed and fatigued, it's possible these little decisions calmed him and then helped get him moving.

That's one explanation. I have my own theory as well. We'll get to that next time. And then . . . I'll make the pretty obvious paint point. I'm Dan Hansen and that's a Minute at RepcoLite.
