A New Tanya class By Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz “3 reasons to contribute weekly or monthly rather than annually”
Tanya Igeret Hakodesh Chapter 21
The Alter begins by calling those that contribute to charity אוהבי שמו a beautiful title for those that contribute as they are demonstrating their love for Hashem.
The Alter Rebbe makes the request to divide up their annual pledges to weekly or monthly contributions based on 3 reasons.
1. The Power of זריזות doing things quickly especially Mitzvot is huge. As we see that Avraham Avinu the greatest component of the Akeida was that Avraham did it “Quickly זריזות & by himself as the self sacrifice others have done that & here hashem actually came to him. The reason why Avraham did it quickly was to show others his Joy & Pleasure in fulfilling the will of Hashem. Especially with charity as we have the benefits in this world as it protects us from any pain & suffering & even death G-D forbid. Especially since we are judged every day we want to have Mitzvot recorded every day.
2) There is a difference between מעשה הצדקה & עבודת הצדקה where masah is about giving once where Avodah is multiple giving each & every time you give & especially when it’s difficult you refine your Nefesh.
3) On a spiritual level every time you give charity to some one that does not have you cause the infinite light of Hashem to be drawn in to מלכות דאצילות as Malchus has nothing & it needs light from Ein Sof as well as the infinite light to descend in to this world & specifically into the Shechina that is in Galut as we continue giving we drawn dawn more light until we release the schechina from total Galut with the coming of moshiach.
