Let me start with a confession.

There have been seasons in my business where if you looked at my calendar and my to-do

list, you would have thought, wow, Ana is crushing it.

But if you looked at the results, totally different story.

Early on in my business, I didn't have many patients and of course, I wanted to have some

more.

So I decided I needed to market.

The problem?

I didn't have a marketing strategy.

Mainly because the word strategy wasn't even in my vocabulary.

I also didn't have any actual marketing goals.

My only goal was the vague statement...

I want more patients.

I didn't know how many more patients I wanted or by when I wanted them.

No clear goal, no clear roadmap.

So with no clear goal and no strategy, here's what my quote unquote marketing looked like.

I would go into my office on days that I didn't see patients and spend endless hours

working on a paper newsletter I mailed to referring dentist offices.

I called it Just Smile, a name I literally pulled out of thin air.

I spent time making gift baskets to deliver to referring dentists, I recorded videos for

patients,

I designed brochures and business cards.

On paper, that sounds like a woman who is really hustling, right?

But here's the truth.

All of it led to absolutely nothing.

No new patients, no real traction.

Just mismanaged time, energy, and money.

I was crushing tasks, but I wasn't moving the needle.

because I didn't have a clear outcome, a measurement of success, or a real strategy to

guide my actions.

Another example from those early days, I really wanted the office to reflect my brand.

The previous orthodontist, the one I bought the practice from, had logo colors of red and

purple, and he had red and purple decorations all over the office.

My logo colors, on the other hand, were teal, gray, and white.

And I had this vision of wowing my patients with a fresh, modern look.

In my mind, I genuinely believed I was doing branding.

One problem with my quote unquote branding project was that I didn't have much money.

So instead of writing out a redecoration plan, deciding on a budget and buying a few decor

pieces within that budget, or better yet, asking someone else to handle it so that I could

work on my business, I decided I would make a lot of the artwork myself.

Yes, you heard that correctly.

I spent hours on end painting artwork that I would later hang up around the office.

Painting, repainting, arranging, rearranging.

Was it creative?

Did it make the office look nicer?

of a young practice that desperately needed patience and systems and strategy?

Once again, I was busy.

I was quote unquote working on the business.

But I wasn't working on the right things.

I didn't have clear business goals.

And my actions weren't connected to measurable outcomes.

And that's the trap a lot of women entrepreneurs fall into.

We mistake activity for progress.

We feel productive, but the needle doesn't actually move.

set of goals rooted in your why that translates into focused needle moving action.

Let's start where real goal setting actually begins, with you, your mindset and your

vision.

Most goal setting starts with, what do I wanna do next year?

I want you to zoom out and ask, who do I want to be and how do I want my life to feel?

Because if your goals only live in the career and revenue box, but they ignore your

health, your family, your peace, your joy, you will hit those goals and still feel empty,

resentful or exhausted.

Here are five things you can do today to shift from more to aligned.

And queen, you don't have to take all five on this week.

Listen for the one that feels most urgent or most alive for you right now.

That's your starting move.

Number one, think holistically.

Your life is an ecosystem.

I want you to picture your life as an ecosystem with a few core areas.

Business career, personal and health, relationships, family, spirituality slash inner

world.

Now ask yourself, one year from now, if my life felt deeply aligned and fulfilling, what's

one outcome in each of these areas that would make me proud?

Not 20 outcomes, just one per area.

You might come up with things like business.

I want my business to generate X dollars with Y percent profit so I have breathing room.

Or health.

I want consistent sleep and energy.

not constantly running on fumes.

Or relationships, I want to feel present with my partner or kids not always half on my

Number two, define your why at a deep level.

Now once you have a sense of what you want, we need to connect it to your why.

Make seven figures is not a why.

I want to create financial stability so my kids never have to experience the insecurity I

did growing up.

Or it could be, I want the freedom to take a month off and travel without my business

And if you're thinking, I don't know my big noble why yet, that's okay.

Your first why can be simple and honest.

Like I want to stop living invoice to invoice, or I want to prove to myself that I can

follow through on something important.

Your why is allowed to evolve as you grow.

Don't wait for a perfect why to start moving.

So take one of your big goals and ask, if this goal were already done, how would my life

feel different?

Number three, visualize success and use affirmations.

What we really chase is a feeling.

If you're looking for a partner, it could be because you want to feel love.

If your goal is a certain income, then what you're really looking for is not the income

itself, but the feeling it provides.

beliefs This is critical for goal setting because you can only ever accomplish what you

So recruit a mentor

a successful friend and colleague or a personal coach to help you see yours.

Sometimes these limiting beliefs live in your thoughts so inconspicuously that you think

it's normal to think them.

Some of them can be, who am I to charge that?

Why will my friends or family think if I become more successful?

It's just my little side hustle.

Or if I grow too big, I won't be a good mom, partner, daughter, et cetera.

So many women are trained to play small.

We're taught to not be too much, not be too ambitious, not make anyone uncomfortable.

But here's the truth.

You shrinking your goals doesn't actually make anyone else safer or happier, but it does

keep you stuck, resentful, and underutilized.

I want you to give yourself permission to set stretch goals, the ones that feel exciting

and a little scary, but not so huge that they paralyze you.

We stretch big and then we break that stretch into small doable wins.

And number five, embrace a growth mindset.

Finally, you have to decide ahead of time how you're going to relate to challenges.

Are they proof that you're not cut out for this or tuition you pay for your next level?

The goals aren't rooted in who they want to become.

And the plan doesn't account for the emotional and mental load they're carrying as women,

real life, not some fantasy 5 a.m.

You've probably heard of SMART goals, but let's run it through quickly Queen Mode style.

Next, you need to write your goals down and keep them visible.

This sounds simple, but don't let its simplicity make you overlook it.

Physically writing your goals forces clarity, engages your brain differently than just

thinking about them, and increases your likelihood of following through.

top three goals on a sticky note on your laptop, make your phone background a simple image

You should be bumping into your goals regularly.

After that, you have to break it down into smaller chunks.

you need to do in the next 90 days to actually make progress and give you momentum.

90 days is magical because it's long enough to see results, but short enough to stay

So what is this rule?

I want to zoom out a little bit now and bring up the Superwoman myth.

The Superwoman myth refers to the societal expectation that women should be able to

effortlessly manage and excel in multiple demanding roles, such as a career professional,

a perfect mother, a dedicated partner.

and a flawless homemaker all without showing signs of stress or needing help.

If you ever called yourself a busy mom or you say things like, don't know how I'm doing it

all, or if I don't do it, no one will, you may unknowingly be participating in that

We call this expectation a myth for a reason.

It's because it promotes an unrealistic and unattainable ideal of perfection, which often

leads to significant physical and mental health issues for women, including burnout,

One is avoidance, the other is wisdom.
