Shownotes

“Love is being committed to what the other person is committed to,” shares Adrian Koehler, executive and leadership coach. Today, Adrian and wife Alli Webb, serial entrepreneur, founder of DryBar and current president of Canopy, join host Kiley Peters to talk about how to best balance relationships with the demands of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is a time consuming and emotionally demanding endeavor. In order to maintain both a relationship and business, both parties must be mutually invested in the other's business success. There needs to be a constant flow of open communication and the ability to be honest about any problems that may arise. With entrepreneurship, it can be more difficult to achieve a balance between life and work. So Adrian and Alli explain that it can be useful to change your goals to align with to work-life integration– where both are equally important. When you truly commit yourself to your partner’s commitments, then it feels less difficult to share your personal time with their business.

It is important to be intentional about how you spend your time. With intentionality and equal commitment, entrepreneurs can create successful work-life integration and have both thriving relationships and businesses. Tune into this week’s episode of Welcome to Eloma for a conversation with Alli Webb and Adrian Koehler about how to balance personal relationships with entrepreneurship. Learn how to communicate openly about your needs, how to use your time intentionally, and how to cope with having to share your partner with the needs of their business.

Quotes

  • “Love is being committed to what the other person is committed to.” (23:10-23:14 | Adrian)
  • “I read somewhere, ‘what's the key to a great relationship?’ And the first thing was having a lot of sex. And I bring that up not to be crass, but more because it's a connection point, like, really, but it is. It’s obviously a sharing of intimacy that I think, at least for me, was not not super present in my last marriage, or really any of my relationships.” (46:03-46:35 | Alli)
  • “People can live in a complaint about how much time they don't have, but it's really intentionality they don't have. So be intentional, you'll find out how you can potentiate the connection time you have.” (50:49-51:00 | Adrian)
  • “I like the chaos. And I think that's been the biggest insight for me is that I really thrive in that kind of environment when there's tons of balls in the air.” (52:06-52:15 | Alli)
  • “Success actually means you're less important over time. It doesn't mean that you don't make an impact. It just means that if it's still about you, it won't be as big as it could be.” (53:27-53:39 | Adrian)
