After five years and 250+ episodes, I'm taking a short break from the podcast to focus on my biggest goal right now: working with more women and building the next chapter of Life Edit.
This isn't goodbye - it's a strategic pause. The plan is to be back in the autumn, and in the meantime, all 250+ episodes are still there waiting for you to explore.
Stay connected while I'm away:
Thank you for five years of listening, downloading, and sharing your feedback. It truly means everything.
See you in the autumn. ๐งก
Hi, there.
Speaker A:Welcome to the podcast this weekend, a slightly different flavor this week because I want to give you a little update on what is happening with the podcast at the moment and more generally in my business.
Speaker A:And the reason I need to do this right now is because I have decided that I'm going to be taking a bit of a break from the podcast for the next couple of months.
Speaker A:The plan is to bring it back in the autumn, but for now, I'm going to be taking a bit of a break, and I'm not going to be putting out any new episodes.
Speaker A:And I didn't just want to kind of make that decision and run and not tell you about it, because I know that there are lots of you out there who do download and listen every single week.
Speaker A:You really enjoy the podcast.
Speaker A:It's something that you look forward to on a Monday morning.
Speaker A:And so I don't want to just stop producing.
Speaker A:And then you're wondering, where the hell has Alex gone?
Speaker A:I haven't heard from her for a couple of weeks.
Speaker A:I haven't seen any of her episodes.
Speaker A:So I just wanted to explain a little bit about kind of why I've made that decision, what's going on with me, what's happening in my world a little bit.
Speaker A:And I think that one of the things that I've really been trying to do the last couple of years is listen to my gut a lot more.
Speaker A:It's something that I was never very good at doing.
Speaker A:I would always have to rationalize everything and reason everything out with my brain.
Speaker A:But I am learning to listen to my gut a lot more.
Speaker A:I'm learning to connect with my body a lot more.
Speaker A:And something that my gut has been saying to me the last few weeks is, you need to take a break from the podcast.
Speaker A:And so I'm listening to that.
Speaker A:I'm actually listening to that rather than trying to override it and say, yeah, but what about everybody who loves the podcast?
Speaker A:I don't want to let them down.
Speaker A:I want to be able to create content that they love because they like listening.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:All of those things, obviously are going through my head.
Speaker A:And even this morning, I hadn't actually made the decision.
Speaker A:I literally made the decision about 15 minutes ago.
Speaker A:And I was like, right, you're not going to go back on it.
Speaker A:You're going to go.
Speaker A:You're going to record this episode.
Speaker A:You're going to schedule it so that people can see it from Monday, Right?
Speaker A:So definitely that listening to my gut thing is very real.
Speaker A:And the reason that that is happening is because over the last few months, particularly since I did my rebrand right at the end of last year, I've been building this, the new engine of my business, I suppose.
Speaker A:And there's so much work that goes into that, especially when you're working entirely on your own.
Speaker A:I have nobody to bounce ideas off.
Speaker A:I have nobody to tell me what to do.
Speaker A:I have nobody to look at it and say, actually, you should be thinking about this and this and this.
Speaker A:And so I have been awash with different decisions and trying different things out and learning what's working and learning what's not working and all of those kind of things.
Speaker A:And what.
Speaker A:What I really need to do right now is I need to get very, very, very good at delivering a couple of things.
Speaker A:But instead, what I'm doing is I'm spreading myself very thinly across lots of different areas.
Speaker A:So my email list, my Instagram, my stories, the podcast, all of those areas that I'm trying to be good at, everything.
Speaker A:And I feel like I'm doing a decent job, but I could do better if I could focus on one area for a little while.
Speaker A:And of course, on top of that, on top of all that content creation, is the fact that I'm trying to build new offers for you that you're going to love coming into.
Speaker A:I am advertising on Facebook and Instagram so that I'm getting new people through into my world.
Speaker A:I'm creating free lead magnets so that you can see and get a taste of what it's like in my world, what it's like to work with me, so that hopefully you will look at those and you'll go, actually, I'd really love to work with Alex.
Speaker A:These are the things that I would like to work on.
Speaker A:And so I've been building all.
Speaker A:All of that and sales pages and all sorts of different things over the last few months.
Speaker A:And all of that is really time consuming.
Speaker A:But one of the things that I've really recognized is that ultimately my goal is to work with more women.
Speaker A:And that is the thing that I need to focus on.
Speaker A:And I need to focus my attention on the areas that are going to allow me to do that and are going to allow me to access the people who really, really, really want to work with me.
Speaker A:And so I need to really learn to focus my attention a little bit better.
Speaker A:And, you know, the truth of the matter is that every single podcast episode I create takes me three hours to do that.
Speaker A:And that's every single week.
Speaker A:I've done that every single week for the last Five years.
Speaker A:So it's three hours of my time of coming up with ideas, planning the episode, recording the episode, editing, publishing.
Speaker A:There's lots and lots of different steps to it.
Speaker A:And the thing is, I love the podcast and that's why it's taken me a few weeks to get my head around this, because when people ask me, what are the favorite things that you do, the podcast is always top of the list.
Speaker A:I love this content format.
Speaker A:I love being able to go into depth with you.
Speaker A:I love being able to talk about these subjects in a way that really resonates with you.
Speaker A:I think often social media can be very surface level, and if you don't capture somebody's attention the first three seconds, then you might as well forget it.
Speaker A:Whereas here I've got a bit of time and I've got a bit of space.
Speaker A:I also love the feedback that I get on the podcast to get people telling me that it's really helped them and it has made them feel better about their bodies and all those kind of things.
Speaker A:So this has not been an easy decision.
Speaker A:This is not about me going, oh, I'm sick of doing that.
Speaker A:I don't want to do it anymore.
Speaker A:It's about me going, right.
Speaker A:I've got to get clear on what my goal is.
Speaker A:And my goal is to work with more women.
Speaker A:And so in order to do that, I need to make sure that my time, my attention, my focus is focused on the things that are going to allow me to do that.
Speaker A:Because honestly, if you talk to any other woman who, or person, in fact, who has their own small business, who works by themselves, they will say that they often end up feeling that they've turned into a content machine.
Speaker A:You know, the world is very hungry for content.
Speaker A:We have to be producing all, all the time to stay top of mind because people are consuming so much.
Speaker A:There's so much out there at the moment.
Speaker A:And so what then happens is that you.
Speaker A:You feel like you're spending 90% of your time creating content and marketing and not enough of your time actually doing the job that you want to be doing.
Speaker A:And so the job that I want to be doing is working with women.
Speaker A:And so I need to focus my time, my attention into the places that are going to allow me to do that.
Speaker A:And so that is why the podcast, unfortun, is gonna have to take a little break for the time being.
Speaker A:So I just wanna round up today by really just saying thank you, thank you to all of you.
Speaker A:You know, this has been a labor of love.
Speaker A:It really has been Like I say, I love this format of content.
Speaker A:I'm actually gonna miss this format of content because I love sitting here and talking to you.
Speaker A:But, yeah, it's time.
Speaker A:It's time for a little break after five long years of doing this.
Speaker A:But I'm really grateful to all of you, all of you who have listened, all of you who have tuned in every week and downloade episode, all of you who have given me feedback, because that's the thing, quite often you can sit here and feel like you're basically talking to yourself.
Speaker A:So when I get a little bit of feedback from somebody, when somebody comes into my world to work with me and they say, oh, yeah, I've listened to your podcast a bit as well, and I really enjoyed it, then that makes me feel definitely warm and fuzzy inside, and it gives me that impetus, that momentum to keep going.
Speaker A:So I'm really grateful to all of you who have listened over the last five years, whether you're a new listener, whether you're an old listener, and you've been with me for a really long time.
Speaker A:I'm grateful for every single one of you.
Speaker A:And I think the thing is about podcasts, and the beauty of podcasts actually, is that that content doesn't go away.
Speaker A:You know, if you're posting on Instagram 24 hours later, people have forgotten about it, they've ignored it, but people still download old episodes of mine all the time, every single week.
Speaker A:Lots of my downloads are people downloading old episodes.
Speaker A:They come in, they, they find me, they like what they.
Speaker A:They hear, and they go back and they download things.
Speaker A:So that's the beauty of this.
Speaker A:I've got 250 odd episodes that are in the vaults.
Speaker A:They're there for you to listen to.
Speaker A:Go back, explore some of those.
Speaker A:If you've only been listening for a couple of months or even just a couple of years, there is so much material in there for you to go back, and you definitely will find topics that are going to really help you.
Speaker A:They're going to really speak to you.
Speaker A:So do go back and explore some of those over the next couple of months.
Speaker A:But in the meantime, I'm still sending out my newsletter or my emails each week.
Speaker A:I will definitely be on Instagram and probably be on Instagram a little bit more now, because that is the art that I am trying to improve.
Speaker A:It's not easy.
Speaker A:Instagram is a very, very, very unforgiving place.
Speaker A:But it's also the place that I, I know that I will get more visibility.
Speaker A:So do on there, do stay on my mailing list if you're on there.
Speaker A:Do keep an eye out for any freebies that I'll be coming up with because I'm always coming up with a new freebie here and there.
Speaker A:So keep your eyes peeled for all of those kind of things.
Speaker A:But for now, I just want to say thank you very much.
Speaker A:I will hopefully see you back here in a couple of months time, but for now, I'm gonna love you and leave you and I'll see you again soon.
