The federal government is set to impose a sweeping ban on THC-infused drinks and snacks, a move that could have significant implications for the burgeoning cannabis industry. This looming regulation aims to address concerns over the potential risks associated with these products, particularly their appeal to young consumers.

A new study from the Washington State Institute for Public Policy has found that living near licensed marijuana stores may increase the risk of developing cannabis use disorder, particularly among young people. The report, which analyzed Medicaid data from two thousand twelve to two thousand twenty=three, revealed that individuals between the ages of twelve and twenty were thirteen percent more likely to be diagnosed with the disorder if they lived within a 10-minute drive of a cannabis shop. For adults 21 and older, the risk was seven percent higher.

This review article examines the therapeutic use of cannabis, including the prevalence of medical cannabis and CBD use in the US and Canada. Approximately twenty-seven percent of adults in the US and Canada report having ever used cannabis for medical purposes, and an estimated ten percent of the US population reports using CBD for therapeutic purposes. CBD is a chemical compound extracted from cannabis that does not have psychoactive effects.
