Now, on to the show.

12

::

In today's episode, we will practice an exercise

13

::

that uses emotions and a color palette to

14

::

connect with the present and then we'll explore

15

::

how to use anger again, our theme of

16

::

the week, to motivate us towards shared goals.

17

::

Welcome to The Daily Reconnect.

18

::

It's now March 12th and I'm your host,

19

::

Janda Han.

20

::

This quick session aims to bring you back

21

::

to the present moment when you're feeling disconnected

22

::

or adrift from reality.

23

::

Together, we will rediscover our place in this

24

::

unpredictable world, our physical bodies and our wandering

25

::

minds.

26

::

Let's reconnect with what's real and present here

27

::

today.

28

::

After we complete this exercise, we will gather

29

::

the strength within us to tackle our day

30

::

and continue navigating what is often a struggle

31

::

life in these fairly wild times for many

32

::

most.

33

::

Anyways, let's take the elements that resonate during

34

::

the following exercise and you can leave behind

35

::

anything that doesn't work for you.

36

::

Modify whatever you need to while we progress

37

::

through the exercise.

38

::

You are not required to follow anything exactly.

39

::

I'm giving you full permission here to adapt

40

::

and improvise.

41

::

Something doesn't click, just let my voice be

42

::

the thing that you hear and connect with

43

::

or find your own path to connection.

44

::

This is your moment for you to re

45

::

-center and reset.

46

::

Today, we're using emotions in order to reconnect

47

::

with ourselves so we can connect with each

48

::

other.

49

::

Any environment you are in is fine for

50

::

this exercise as long as you can take

51

::

a moment for yourself.

52

::

You can be seated or standing or walking

53

::

at a comfortable, sustained pace of your choosing.

54

::

So find that comfortable position or pace and

55

::

take a few deep breaths before you begin.

56

::

And now let's bring your attention to your

57

::

emotional state.

58

::

Notice how you're feeling in this moment.

59

::

Is there like a dominant emotion or a

60

::

mix of emotions going on?

61

::

Allow yourself to acknowledge and accept your emotions

62

::

without any judgment.

63

::

And it's also okay to use an approximation

64

::

of your current emotions or use prior days

65

::

to inform what you might be feeling.

66

::

Delayed processing emotionally is real for many of

67

::

us and it's also a valid experience.

68

::

Now imagine that each emotion has a color

69

::

associated with it.

70

::

For example, joy might be yellow or sadness

71

::

might be blue or maybe anger is red.

72

::

Allow yourself to see these colors for your

73

::

current emotions in your mind's eye and just

74

::

notice how they might interact with each other

75

::

or overlap.

76

::

Now notice any insights that might arise from

77

::

what you notice from this palette or notice

78

::

that there might be a lack of one.

79

::

If it is difficult for you to understand

80

::

your current emotions or perhaps it just doesn't

81

::

make sense or it's too stressful to assign

82

::

the colors, know that this is entirely valid

83

::

as well and it's also an important thing

84

::

to notice.

85

::

And continuing with this visualization, imagine that you

86

::

can use color to heal and balance your

87

::

emotions.

88

::

Perhaps you can surround yourself with a soothing

89

::

green light to calm your anxiety.

90

::

You can try using this technique in order

91

::

to help reconnect you during times of the

92

::

day where you feel disconnected from reality or

93

::

you notice yourself dissociating.

94

::

Imagine a color that might be able to

95

::

bring you back to the present moment or

96

::

help you analyze what's going on or address

97

::

any anxiety.

98

::

And finally take another deep breath and when

99

::

you're ready open your eyes if they're closed

100

::

or bring yourself back to this present space.

101

::

Notice how you feel and take this sense

102

::

of emotional awareness to help you throughout your

103

::

day.

104

::

And now we will continue on to some

105

::

motivation.

106

::

So as our exercise comes to a close

107

::

and you find yourself reconnected to this present

108

::

moment, I invite you to notice any anger

109

::

that you might be feeling or remember any

110

::

anger that you may have felt during the

111

::

recent days or weeks if that's something that

112

::

isn't present for you today.

113

::

Your anger might be a quiet smoldering feeling

114

::

or perhaps it's an intense fiery feeling or

115

::

perhaps it's momentarily absent because we're dissociated.

116

::

But as you recognize it, it might be

117

::

a frequent visitor in your days right now.

118

::

Our world gives us plenty of reasons to

119

::

be angry.

120

::

We have these economic systems that prioritize a

121

::

few people's profit over the basic needs of

122

::

many.

123

::

We have so much political everything going on

124

::

right now that point the finger at vulnerable

125

::

communities quite frequently and that might be some

126

::

of us.

127

::

We have environmental destruction continuing and the personal

128

::

impacts of these systemic failures, they show up

129

::

in our days every day, in our financial

130

::

stress, in our health struggles, in our communities

131

::

that are fractured apart right now.

132

::

And despite what you might have been told,

133

::

feeling angry about these real things in our

134

::

lives doesn't mean that you've failed at being

135

::

mindful or failed at meditating or failed at

136

::

being present.

137

::

Quite the opposite.

138

::

It means that you're paying attention to what's

139

::

going on right now.

140

::

It means that your moral compass is functioning

141

::

just as it's supposed to as a human

142

::

being.

143

::

The problem isn't that you're angry.

144

::

The problem is that we've been conditioned to

145

::

experience anger alone, in isolation, to see it

146

::

as a burden that we individually have to

147

::

manage and process alone or suppress in so

148

::

many of our communities and situations in the

149

::

workplace and so on.

150

::

We're taught that anger is unprofessional or unattractive

151

::

or inappropriate.

152

::

And these messages often serve a purpose for

153

::

someone because isolated anger rarely leads to things

154

::

changing.

155

::

So what happens when we bring our anger

156

::

into a relationship with other people, around other

157

::

people, when we gather and honestly name what

158

::

we're angry about?

159

::

Something happens.

160

::

Something transformative.

161

::

We discover patterns in our individual experiences.

162

::

We begin to trace these patterns back to

163

::

their systemic roots.

164

::

And most importantly, we begin to imagine or

165

::

come up with ideas for collective responses.

166

::

So today, I encourage you to take your

167

::

reconnected presence and use it to reconnect with

168

::

other people through authentic conversations.

169

::

Share what you're angry about, not as a

170

::

complaint, but as an offering, a piece of

171

::

your truth, some vulnerability that might resonate with

172

::

someone else's experience.

173

::

And as you listen to the responses to

174

::

other people's anger, notice the shared values that

175

::

emerge amongst you.

176

::

Are you all hungry for more meaningful connection

177

::

or economic security or for a sense that

178

::

your contributions are valid or valued or matter?

179

::

Are you looking for sustainable relationships with the

180

::

environment?

181

::

These shared values are the foundation upon which

182

::

movements for change are built.

183

::

Remember that every significant social transformation throughout history

184

::

began with people coming together to name their

185

::

shared pains and their shared dreams and their

186

::

shared values.

187

::

Reasonable work days and voting rights and environmental

188

::

protections, none of these things came from people

189

::

suppressing their anger, but from communities coming together

190

::

and channeling it towards very specific collective goals

191

::

that are sustained until they're reached.

192

::

Your anger is telling you something very important

193

::

about your values, so let's listen to it.

194

::

When joined with other people who share them,

195

::

it becomes a renewable source of energy for

196

::

creating that concrete change, for continuing over time.

197

::

It helps you persist when the work gets

198

::

really difficult.

199

::

It keeps you honest when compromises seem easier

200

::

than transformation.

201

::

So as you move throughout your day today,

202

::

I invite you to carry both your centered

203

::

presence, your connection with reality, and your honest

204

::

anger as tools for reconnection with yourself, with

205

::

other people, and with the possibility of a

206

::

world that can be aligned with those deepest

207

::

values that we share.

208

::

You are not alone in what you feel,

209

::

and together we can contain the wisdom and

210

::

the power needed to create meaningful change.

211

::

You are here, you're capable, and there is

212

::

great power within us connected again, and the

213

::

world is so much better with you in

214

::

it.

215

::

So that's it for today.

216

::

It's Wednesday, March 12th.

217

and let's connect again on Friday.
