So what that does is just add some extra audio, not effects, but it basically

makes my voice sound a little bit better.

I've got my PC Dell laptop, which is, is, is coming up to 10, no, it's

That is running Wirecast.

So basically off from eca, uh, you can stream over the network using

Speaker:

a technology called ndi, and that's picking up on the Wirecast and that is

Speaker:

broadcasting to LinkedIn live because at the moment you can only broadcast.

Speaker:

To LinkedIn live using one of three tools.

Speaker:

That is, uh, let me get this right, Wirecast, which is what I'm using.

Speaker:

Uh, switch a studio, which is great for mobile, um, if you're on iOS devices.

Speaker:

And then the final one is, uh, uh, social live.

Social live.

This has taken at least a year, probably more that more like two or three

years in my head to get to this point.

And I want to share some thoughts with you today.

of the steps the point of this podcast is, and, uh, whom I, I.

My audiences and, and how I can help you.

So that's what this podcast is all about, but it's also about my procrastination

or my journey to get to this point.

And I hope from this you can learn a lot and, and, uh, learn from my mistakes,

but also learn from my, my journey.

So yeah, my name's Ian Anderson Gray and I'm, uh, I help entrepreneurs

I've not been doing that for the entirety of my life.

I actually trained as a musician back in the day.

And I'm gonna show a little bit more about my story in a little bit.

Um, but first, before I do that, I just wanted to, uh, thank you so much for

Uh, so what is this show?

Speaker:

And why is it a podcast?

Speaker:

Well, I've written some notes here and, uh, this is part of our, always,

this is really my plan and I'm gonna read out part of my plan and, uh, I'm

Speaker:

gonna be sharing this with you as well.

Speaker:

Um, I wrote this probably.

Speaker:

About a year ago, , and it's taken all this time.

Speaker:

So the Confident Live Marketing podcast and show, uh, is aimed at established

Speaker:

entrepreneurs who want to level up their impact, authority, and profits

Speaker:

through the power of live video.

Speaker:

But it could also be through webinars, podcasts, or, or public speaking.

Speaker:

I think the key here is in the word confidence.

Speaker:

So we're gonna focus on knocking down the three main barriers

Speaker:

that I feel entrepreneurs face when creating live video content.

Speaker:

And I'll talk a little bit more about those three themes that we're

Speaker:

gonna talk about in in this show.

Speaker:

Uh, so some of the shows like this one are gonna be solo shows.

Speaker:

It's just going to be me sharing my, my thoughts with you.

Speaker:

Um, but some of them, I'll also bring in some guests.

Speaker:

I've got some fabulous guests lined up and I can't wait to, uh, share those with you.

Speaker:

Now the word authenticity is used so much.

Speaker:

I think it's kind of overused.

Speaker:

Uh, but I want this show to be really authentic.

Speaker:

I, I, I aim to be.

Speaker:

The real me in this, and I suppose the key word here is I aim to be vulnerable.

Speaker:

I'm not gonna just be sharing the successes, I'm also gonna be sharing the

Speaker:

times when things haven't gone so well.

Speaker:

And actually this is really me sharing my live video journey.

Speaker:

Uh, I was procrastinating because one of the things I was procrastinating

Speaker:

about was because I didn't necessarily have all the gear that I wanted to, but

Speaker:

we're gonna start with what I've got.

Speaker:

So over time, over the months and years that I do this podcast, hopefully you'll

Speaker:

be able to notice the difference as I develop my skills and my confidence

Speaker:

with podcasting and live video.

Speaker:

And I hope to encourage you with that too.

Speaker:

So vulnerability is gonna be really important, but also one of my big

Speaker:

things, one of one of the reasons I think I've been put on this earth to do.

Speaker:

Is encouragement.

Speaker:

I really feel so many of us need encouragement.

Speaker:

We're knocked down as an entrepreneur, and yes, we need to be told how

Speaker:

to do things from time to time.

Speaker:

We need to maybe get a kick at the backside from time to time,

Speaker:

but we also need encouragement.

Speaker:

So the live, the, these podcast recordings are also going to be broadcast live.

Speaker:

So in a way, this is a live broadcast of a podcast recording.

Speaker:

So I'm broadcasting this on Facebook and LinkedIn live at the same time, and I will

Speaker:

get back to any comments at the end of it.

Speaker:

But this is primarily to you listening at home or wherever you are to the podcast.

Speaker:

So who am I aiming this for?

Speaker:

Now?

Speaker:

I could be completely wrong here, but one of the things I've been really

Speaker:

thinking about, who is my avatar?

Speaker:

I don't like that word, but who is my, my audience, my perfect audience.

Speaker:

, and I've been thinking about that a lot.

Speaker:

Uh, I've, I'm aiming this really for established entrepreneurs.

Speaker:

People who are, have been around in the, in the online space particularly.

Speaker:

They may have dabbled in live video, they may have done a lot of live video,

Speaker:

but they're wanting to improve things.

Speaker:

So they've got an online based business.

Speaker:

And as I'm mentioned before, I'm mean, I'll say this a lot, uh, they want to

Speaker:

level up their impacts and authority using live video, but they're struggling.

Speaker:

with getting in front of the camera.

Speaker:

There's something stopping them, or maybe it's the gear or the technology

Speaker:

that's that's what's stopping them.

Speaker:

Or with the content.

Speaker:

What on earth do they say and maybe the marketing.

Speaker:

Now in terms of my demographics, I'm gonna be, I would love to,

Speaker:

to see what's gonna happen here.

Speaker:

I, I think, uh, it's gonna be mainly people from the UK and the us, but

Speaker:

I do believe there'll be people, people from Canada, Australia, New

Speaker:

Zealand, and the rest of Europe.

Speaker:

But it'd be amazing if there were people from, uh, the rest of the

Speaker:

world listened to this podcast.

Speaker:

Um, now it's aimed at both men and women of all ages, but I,

Speaker:

I do have a suspicion that.

Speaker:

It's gonna be, I, I don't like putting people into Pigeonholes here, but I do

Speaker:

think that generation Xs, generation X and maybe baby boomers are going to be make

Speaker:

up the prime, um, part of my audience.

Speaker:

We'll, we'll see.

Speaker:

But of course, millennials and, uh, younger people are more than welcome.

Speaker:

It's, uh, I would love to have people from, from all generations.

Speaker:

That'd be great.

Speaker:

So, um, now the thing is why an.

Speaker:

Am I focusing on a podcast when it's all about live video?

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

I'm live streaming this, and that's, that's definitely deliberate

Speaker:

because I need to be showing and demonstrating the power of live video.

Speaker:

But I think actually my target audience, they, they do like to consume podcasting.

Speaker:

So if you are watching.

Speaker:

Just te tell me in the comments, what is your preferred method of consumption?

Of content?

Is it live, video, podcast, or bit of both?

Speaker:

I'd be really interested in that.

Speaker:

So it's quite deliberate that the podcast is definitely the main part,

uh, the main format here or the main, uh, what's the word I'm looking for?

Speaker:

Anyway, the main medium, medium is the word, but I am also live streaming

Speaker:

this and I want to get some audience participation and interaction as well.

Speaker:

So that's really exciting.

Speaker:

And also, uh, podcasting is just a really lovely format.

Speaker:

It's something that I've been doing.

Speaker:

, uh, I, I, I consume a lot of podcast content and actually I did have, uh, a

Speaker:

podcast many years ago when I was just starting out on this space Doesn't exist

Speaker:

anymore, but it was called the, uh, yeah, it was called Seriously Social

Speaker:

News, the Seriously Social News Podcast.

Speaker:

I wanted to share a little bit about why I stopped that, because I

Speaker:

think that's important as I really explain why I think live video.

Speaker:

Such a powerful platform.

Speaker:

Now with the Seriously Social News podcast.

Speaker:

The idea was it was gonna be a short, 10 minute podcast every week

Speaker:

sharing what is new in the world of social media and technology.

Speaker:

It was 10 minutes, but I kid you not, it took me like a whole day

Speaker:

to create this, to, to record it.

Speaker:

And I record, had to record it multiple times.

Speaker:

Cause I kept on stuttering over my words and I was suffering from perfectionism

Speaker:

and I had to do a lot of research.

Speaker:

Uh, it was just me and then editing it, putting it onto, I was using SoundCloud at

Speaker:

the time and then putting it onto iTunes.

Speaker:

Took me at least a day out of my time every single week.

Speaker:

I, I couldn't batch record it.

Speaker:

And of course, the other downside with it was that each episode basically

Speaker:

got out of date within a day or two.

Speaker:

And so there was none of the evergreen content.

Speaker:

So why live video?

Speaker:

Why do I wanna talk about live video?

Speaker:

Well, live video is a quick and easy way of creating content,

Speaker:

and it's not about being perfect.

Speaker:

It's, it's actually about being real and authentic.

Speaker:

All those, those words I was talking about before.

Speaker:

So it's a quick and easy way of creating that content.

Speaker:

Yes, you need to plan, but once you press that start broadcast button, you

Speaker:

can create that content very easily.

Speaker:

Once you press the end broadcast button, you don't have to worry about editing.

Speaker:

But of course, you've then got the potential amazing potential to, uh,

Speaker:

repurpose that to all these other pieces of content there, uh, pieces of, uh,

Speaker:

piece, you know, speak, uh, all those other platforms out there such as LinkedIn

Speaker:

and uh, Facebook and Instagram stories.

Speaker:

So it's all really.

Speaker:

stuff.

Speaker:

Definitely.

Speaker:

So what next?

Speaker:

Um, so I've mentioned a summary of the podcast.

Speaker:

My audience, uh, my promise.

Speaker:

What is my promise?

Speaker:

So I, my promise, and I want you to, uh, pick me up on this because this

Speaker:

is my aim of this podcast, is that this is going to be a challenging

Speaker:

podcast, uh, an encouraging.

Speaker:

Also a bit of fun.

Speaker:

I want to have a bit of fun with this.

Speaker:

So whether you get on with my sense of humor, I don't know,

Speaker:

we'll see how about that.

Speaker:

But it's also gonna be practical tips as well.

Speaker:

Um, now I believe this is gonna be a, my aim really is that this is a holistic

Speaker:

approach and although the focus will be on live video webinar, Podcast content

Speaker:

will also be looking at leveling up all areas of your life because my, my

Speaker:

goal is not just the content, it's also to level up other areas of your life.

Speaker:

It could be your, not just your business, but your personal life.

Speaker:

How can you spend more time with your family on the, on your loved ones

Speaker:

as well as, uh, as your business?

Speaker:

But I also aim, my aim is for this as well as to be fun, but it's a no fluff podcast

Speaker:

and I wanna avoid any pseudoscience, or I don't like this word, but woowoo stuff.

Speaker:

I want it to be practical and, uh, to allow you to break down those barriers

Speaker:

of, of confidence, self-confidence, in front of the camera, with the

Speaker:

tech and, and with the content.

Speaker:

And I do wanna share some ca, uh, case studies and some actionable tips

Speaker:

on how you can achieve your goal.

Speaker:

Now, this is not about being perfect.

Speaker:

I'm gonna be showing my journey with the ups as well as the downs, and, and I do

Speaker:

want to be as transparent as possible.

Speaker:

So why am I doing this?

Speaker:

Well, part of it is I need to be doing this.

Speaker:

I mean, I am seen by many as the go-to Facebook Live or

Speaker:

live video confidence experts.

Speaker:

So I need to be doing this on a more regular basis anyway.

Speaker:

Um, I want, so this is really to increase my brand awareness.

Speaker:

I want to be able to promote my products.

Speaker:

I want to ultimately, I want my, my goal is to encourage, Encourage

Speaker:

you to be able to go live and to, to not stay where you are.

Speaker:

I want you to push forwards and encourage you in that.

Speaker:

So, and I also want to build relationships with guests that I have

on the show and also some sponsors.

Um, so I think that is, that's basically, uh, all about the, the, the

I know some of you will know me.

Uh, who are listening, but you may not know me if you are listening.

So, uh, just a little bit about me.

So I said before that I trained as a musician.

Speaker:

When I was at school, I really struggled between knowing what to do.

Speaker:

I suppose I struggled with my identity and I wasn't sure whether to go down the

Speaker:

science route because I loved science.

Speaker:

I still love science or the technology, or do I go down the performance route and.

Speaker:

My, my mom was an opera singer, uh, so there was definitely some music in the

Speaker:

family, but I, when it came to choosing where I was gonna go, I ended up going

Speaker:

to university to do music and, and then I went to the Royal Northern College

Speaker:

Music here in Manchester, in the UK to train as a professional classical singer.

Speaker:

Shortly after I left, I set up a web agency with my dad.

Speaker:

Um, I was very much involved with, with technology and building websites,

and so it seemed a good idea to build websites for my fellow musicians.

Skipped forward quite a few years and I wanted to create a blog, so I created a

blog with my, with my initials, I a g.

Speaker:

and that really changed everything for me.

Speaker:

I started writing blog posts about social media and technology,

Speaker:

which really interested me.

Speaker:

And I ended up being asked to speak at conferences, uh, particularly

Speaker:

as a, the, the big one for me was a conference in Manchester called

Speaker:

The Big Social Media Conference.

Speaker:

And we had, uh, some amazing people like Mary Smith and

Speaker:

Melanie Daro, uh, come to that.

Speaker:

And it was also where I met my partner in crime, Julia Bramble there.

Speaker:

And that was amazing.

Speaker:

And that same year, I think I've got this right, or it

Speaker:

could have been the year after.

Speaker:

I'll have to check my dates.

Speaker:

I was asked to speak at Social Media Marketing World for the first

Speaker:

time, which is the biggest social media conference in the world.

Speaker:

That changed everything again for me.

Speaker:

And uh, but I did really.

Speaker:

With imposter syndrome, and we're gonna do a whole episode in

Speaker:

imposter syndrome in the future.

Speaker:

But a lot of people believed in me.

Speaker:

At the time, I didn't believe in myself, but people believed in me

Speaker:

and that kept me going and going and going until the next thing that

Speaker:

happened, which was three years ago.

Speaker:

Everyone seems to have access to Facebook Live, but I didn't.

Speaker:

So I ended up doing some research and I wrote an article on how to

Speaker:

broadcast to Facebook Live from your.

Speaker:

And that article has add over 5 million page views.

Speaker:

Since that it allowed me to launch my first course, and I'm now speaking

Speaker:

around the world about live video.

Speaker:

But it was the most important thing really.

Speaker:

Here was an epiphany moment for me, which is where I felt suddenly that.

Speaker:

All those little parts of my life, it were ca converged into this new

Speaker:

sub-brand, confident Live because I had that background in performance,

Speaker:

that background in teaching, I've been teaching, singing and, and other

Speaker:

types of, of things over the years.

Speaker:

And also my love of technology and all of them merge with

Speaker:

Confident Live and also my, my.

Speaker:

Joy and my real, uh, wanting to help people build their confidence

Speaker:

and, uh, get through those barriers that are holding them back.

Speaker:

So that's a little bit about me.

Speaker:

I'll be sharing some more about my story, uh, over the

Speaker:

coming few weeks and episodes.

Speaker:

So why did it take such a long time for me to get round to doing this?

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

This podcast almost never happened, and it is true.

Speaker:

I came up with the idea about a year ago.

Speaker:

I was speaking with my friends, Mike and Isabella, and asking them if

Speaker:

they could help me with the music at the beginning of the podcast,

Speaker:

and I've just checked the emails.

Speaker:

It was, it was about a year ago, and I've been talking with them

Speaker:

for ages and I hope you agree.

Speaker:

They did an amazing job with the intro.

Speaker:

Uh, for this.

Speaker:

So part of the issue is for me, procrastination, but if we dig a little

Speaker:

bit deeper in that, I wonder whether you suffer from procrastination.

Speaker:

But part of that is maybe, um, if I'm being totally honest, a lack of

Speaker:

self-confidence and the ability that I have to compare myself with others

Speaker:

and overcomplicate over complication and a bit of imposter syndrome.

Speaker:

All of those mixed together.

Speaker:

And so I wonder whether you suffer from those things because those things have

Speaker:

been holding me back and not believing in the gifts that I have to share with

Speaker:

the world when it comes to live video.

Speaker:

The thing that's kept me going is the knowledge that my friends

Speaker:

out there have believed in me, and that has kept me going.

Speaker:

That is why I'm here today, and I, I encourage you.

Speaker:

If you are not in a mastermind group, if you do not have people around you who

Speaker:

are the encouragers, you need to find those people because otherwise you may

Speaker:

not be, uh, getting your full, uh, uh, potential, fulfilling your full potential.

Speaker:

So those are our, those traits.

Speaker:

The, the, uh, comparison syndrome over complication.

Speaker:

Imposter syndrome.

Speaker:

Those are all what I call live video syndromes.

Speaker:

They are things that we can all suffer from and they can all

Speaker:

hold us back, but I want to.

Speaker:

Put those behind me and create content that is really gonna help you, uh,

Speaker:

move forwards in your business.

Speaker:

And I wanna share my journey.

Speaker:

I want to share the, the things that I get wrong as well as

Speaker:

the things that I get right.

Speaker:

And one of the reasons why I didn't go live was because I was worried about

Speaker:

my background and about my webcam.

Speaker:

I'm actually using a C nine 20 webcam for this, uh, which is not.

Speaker:

Not the most amazing one, but it's a pretty good camera

Speaker:

for people starting out.

Speaker:

But I was wanting to take things to the next level and get a really,

Speaker:

really nice camera for that.

Speaker:

But then I started to think to myself, the more I procrastinate about this

Speaker:

and start looking at the technology, the more I let people wait and I need

Speaker:

to start sharing my message with my a.

Speaker:

. So I think that's about it for this episode.

And that is a, that's a really good point, Tim, because this is one of the big

problems at the moment if you do multicast to lots of different network networks.

It's something I don't recommend that people do, to be honest.

Uh, broadcasting to more than one platform.

And there is a reason why I'm doing it this way, and I'll

explain in a minute, but one of the big reasons is that you can't.

Get to keep track of those, mult those comments across all those

Speaker:

different platforms very easily.

Speaker:

It's, it's a real pain.

Speaker:

So, uh, it would be great if there was a common aggregator, the

Speaker:

kind of is one with e-comm live.

Speaker:

If you link it up with, um, what's it called again?

Speaker:

restream.io, they have kind of got a comment aggregator, but

Speaker:

it's a little bit bugging and it doesn't work in, in all situations.

Speaker:

And more to the point with restream.io, you can't schedule your live broadcast.

Speaker:

So that's no good to me.

Speaker:

Uh, no.

Speaker:

The reason why I'm doing it to Facebook Live and LinkedIn live

Speaker:

is really that Facebook Live is, is really where my home is.

Speaker:

But LinkedIn live is something I totally see the power of.

Speaker:

And LinkedIn is something that I really want to go.

Speaker:

All out on.

Speaker:

And I've, I've been seeing so much interaction.

Speaker:

Uh, I mean, we've got loads of people watching us live

Speaker:

on LinkedIn, which is great.

Speaker:

Uh, so I, I definitely see that as a really powerful thing.

Also, you know, I, I, uh, LinkedIn live is still on the closed beater at the

Speaker:

moment, so it's something that I really want to play around with and test.

So Tim says, yes, I'm on LinkedIn.

Yeah, that's good.

I can't actually see anything.

That's basically what I see is, looks like in black, uh, just a black screen there.

I'll be able to broadcast to lots of different platforms at the same time.

Uh, last week I was speaking at info show, which is the biggest, so

biggest not social media, but biggest technology conference in central Europe.

So I was speaking in, in Poland, in, in Gdansk.

I don't think you pronounce.

So it's Dansk, which is on the, the, the north of Poland.

Speaker:

And at the end of the end of my torque, uh, there were a few

Speaker:

questions, but the next person had some, uh, problems with their laptop.

Speaker:

And so the host room host kept me up there and asked me lots of random

Speaker:

questions like, what's my favorite car?

Speaker:

And do I support Manchester United or Manchester City?

Speaker:

I had to say, I don't support either of them because I'm not

Speaker:

really into football or soccer.

Speaker:

Which was not the right thing to say.

Speaker:

But anyway, he then asked me to sing , so I had to sing in front

of, I dunno how many people there.

I reckon three to 400, maybe even more people in, in the audience.

It seems like a lot of people there.

and doing all that kind of stuff.

I want to be able to help more and more people.

And why is it a podcast?

Well, I've written some notes here and, uh, this is part of our, always,

this is really my plan and I'm gonna read out part of my plan and, uh, I'm

gonna be sharing this with you as well.

Um, I wrote this probably.

About a year ago, , and it's taken all this time.

So the Confident Live Marketing podcast and show, uh, is aimed at established

Speaker:

entrepreneurs who want to level up their impact, authority, and profits

Speaker:

through the power of live video.

Speaker:

But it could also be through webinars, podcasts, or, or public speaking.

Speaker:

I think the key here is in the word confidence.

Speaker:

So we're gonna focus on knocking down the three main barriers

Speaker:

that I feel entrepreneurs face when creating live video content.

Speaker:

And I'll talk a little bit more about those three themes that we're

Speaker:

gonna talk about in in this show.

Speaker:

Uh, so some of the shows like this one are gonna be solo shows.

Speaker:

It's just going to be me sharing my, my thoughts with you.

Speaker:

Um, but some of them, I'll also bring in some guests.

Speaker:

I've got some fabulous guests lined up and I can't wait to, uh, share those with you.

Now the word authenticity is used so much.

Speaker:

I think it's kind of overused.

Speaker:

Uh, but I want this show to be really authentic.

Speaker:

I, I, I aim to be.

Speaker:

The real me in this, and I suppose the key word here is I aim to be vulnerable.

Speaker:

I'm not gonna just be sharing the successes, I'm also gonna be sharing the

Speaker:

times when things haven't gone so well.

Speaker:

And actually this is really me sharing my live video journey.

Speaker:

Uh, I was procrastinating because one of the things I was procrastinating

Speaker:

about was because I didn't necessarily have all the gear that I wanted to, but

Speaker:

we're gonna start with what I've got.

Speaker:

So over time, over the months and years that I do this podcast, hopefully you'll

Speaker:

be able to notice the difference as I develop my skills and my confidence

Speaker:

with podcasting and live video.

Speaker:

And I hope to encourage you with that too.

Speaker:

So vulnerability is gonna be really important, but also one of my big

Speaker:

things, one of one of the reasons I think I've been put on this earth to do.

Speaker:

Is encouragement.

Speaker:

I really feel so many of us need encouragement.

Speaker:

We're knocked down as an entrepreneur, and yes, we need to be told how

Speaker:

to do things from time to time.

Speaker:

We need to maybe get a kick at the backside from time to time,

Speaker:

but we also need encouragement.

Speaker:

So the live, the, these podcast recordings are also going to be broadcast live.

Speaker:

So in a way, this is a live broadcast of a podcast recording.

Speaker:

So I'm broadcasting this on Facebook and LinkedIn live at the same time, and I will

Speaker:

get back to any comments at the end of it.

Speaker:

But this is primarily to you listening at home or wherever you are to the podcast.

Speaker:

So who am I aiming this for?

Speaker:

Now?

Speaker:

I could be completely wrong here, but one of the things I've been really

Speaker:

thinking about, who is my avatar?

Speaker:

I don't like that word, but who is my, my audience, my perfect audience.

Speaker:

, and I've been thinking about that a lot.

Speaker:

Uh, I've, I'm aiming this really for established entrepreneurs.

Speaker:

People who are, have been around in the, in the online space particularly.

Speaker:

They may have dabbled in live video, they may have done a lot of live video,

Speaker:

but they're wanting to improve things.

Speaker:

So they've got an online based business.

Speaker:

And as I'm mentioned before, I'm mean, I'll say this a lot, uh, they want to

Speaker:

level up their impacts and authority using live video, but they're struggling.

Speaker:

with getting in front of the camera.

Speaker:

There's something stopping them, or maybe it's the gear or the technology

Speaker:

that's that's what's stopping them.

Speaker:

Or with the content.

Speaker:

What on earth do they say and maybe the marketing.

Speaker:

Now in terms of my demographics, I'm gonna be, I would love to,

Speaker:

to see what's gonna happen here.

Speaker:

I, I think, uh, it's gonna be mainly people from the UK and the us, but

Speaker:

I do believe there'll be people, people from Canada, Australia, New

Speaker:

Zealand, and the rest of Europe.

Speaker:

But it'd be amazing if there were people from, uh, the rest of the

Speaker:

world listened to this podcast.

Speaker:

Um, now it's aimed at both men and women of all ages, but I,

Speaker:

I do have a suspicion that.

Speaker:

It's gonna be, I, I don't like putting people into Pigeonholes here, but I do

Speaker:

think that generation Xs, generation X and maybe baby boomers are going to be make

Speaker:

up the prime, um, part of my audience.

Speaker:

We'll, we'll see.

Speaker:

But of course, millennials and, uh, younger people are more than welcome.

Speaker:

It's, uh, I would love to have people from, from all generations.

Speaker:

That'd be great.

Speaker:

So, um, now the thing is why an.

Speaker:

Am I focusing on a podcast when it's all about live video?

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

I'm live streaming this, and that's, that's definitely deliberate

Speaker:

because I need to be showing and demonstrating the power of live video.

Speaker:

But I think actually my target audience, they, they do like to consume podcasting.

Speaker:

So if you are watching.

Speaker:

Just te tell me in the comments, what is your preferred method of consumption?

Of content?

Is it live, video, podcast, or bit of both?

Speaker:

I'd be really interested in that.

Speaker:

So it's quite deliberate that the podcast is definitely the main part,

uh, the main format here or the main, uh, what's the word I'm looking for?

Speaker:

Anyway, the main medium, medium is the word, but I am also live streaming

Speaker:

this and I want to get some audience participation and interaction as well.

Speaker:

So that's really exciting.

Speaker:

And also, uh, podcasting is just a really lovely format.

Speaker:

It's something that I've been doing.

Speaker:

, uh, I, I, I consume a lot of podcast content and actually I did have, uh, a

Speaker:

podcast many years ago when I was just starting out on this space Doesn't exist

Speaker:

anymore, but it was called the, uh, yeah, it was called Seriously Social

Speaker:

News, the Seriously Social News Podcast.

Speaker:

I wanted to share a little bit about why I stopped that, because I

Speaker:

think that's important as I really explain why I think live video.

Speaker:

Such a powerful platform.

Speaker:

Now with the Seriously Social News podcast.

Speaker:

The idea was it was gonna be a short, 10 minute podcast every week

Speaker:

sharing what is new in the world of social media and technology.

Speaker:

It was 10 minutes, but I kid you not, it took me like a whole day

Speaker:

to create this, to, to record it.

Speaker:

And I record, had to record it multiple times.

Speaker:

Cause I kept on stuttering over my words and I was suffering from perfectionism

Speaker:

and I had to do a lot of research.

Speaker:

Uh, it was just me and then editing it, putting it onto, I was using SoundCloud at

Speaker:

the time and then putting it onto iTunes.

Speaker:

Took me at least a day out of my time every single week.

Speaker:

I, I couldn't batch record it.

Speaker:

And of course, the other downside with it was that each episode basically

Speaker:

got out of date within a day or two.

Speaker:

And so there was none of the evergreen content.

Speaker:

So why live video?

Speaker:

Why do I wanna talk about live video?

Speaker:

Well, live video is a quick and easy way of creating content,

Speaker:

and it's not about being perfect.

Speaker:

It's, it's actually about being real and authentic.

Speaker:

All those, those words I was talking about before.

Speaker:

So it's a quick and easy way of creating that content.

Speaker:

Yes, you need to plan, but once you press that start broadcast button, you

Speaker:

can create that content very easily.

Speaker:

Once you press the end broadcast button, you don't have to worry about editing.

Speaker:

But of course, you've then got the potential amazing potential to, uh,

Speaker:

repurpose that to all these other pieces of content there, uh, pieces of, uh,

Speaker:

piece, you know, speak, uh, all those other platforms out there such as LinkedIn

Speaker:

and uh, Facebook and Instagram stories.

Speaker:

So it's all really.

Speaker:

stuff.

Speaker:

Definitely.

Speaker:

So what next?

Speaker:

Um, so I've mentioned a summary of the podcast.

Speaker:

My audience, uh, my promise.

Speaker:

What is my promise?

Speaker:

So I, my promise, and I want you to, uh, pick me up on this because this

Speaker:

is my aim of this podcast, is that this is going to be a challenging

Speaker:

podcast, uh, an encouraging.

Speaker:

Also a bit of fun.

Speaker:

I want to have a bit of fun with this.

Speaker:

So whether you get on with my sense of humor, I don't know,

Speaker:

we'll see how about that.

Speaker:

But it's also gonna be practical tips as well.

Speaker:

Um, now I believe this is gonna be a, my aim really is that this is a holistic

Speaker:

approach and although the focus will be on live video webinar, Podcast content

Speaker:

will also be looking at leveling up all areas of your life because my, my

Speaker:

goal is not just the content, it's also to level up other areas of your life.

Speaker:

It could be your, not just your business, but your personal life.

Speaker:

How can you spend more time with your family on the, on your loved ones

Speaker:

as well as, uh, as your business?

Speaker:

But I also aim, my aim is for this as well as to be fun, but it's a no fluff podcast

Speaker:

and I wanna avoid any pseudoscience, or I don't like this word, but woowoo stuff.

Speaker:

I want it to be practical and, uh, to allow you to break down those barriers

Speaker:

of, of confidence, self-confidence, in front of the camera, with the

Speaker:

tech and, and with the content.

Speaker:

And I do wanna share some ca, uh, case studies and some actionable tips

Speaker:

on how you can achieve your goal.

Speaker:

Now, this is not about being perfect.

Speaker:

I'm gonna be showing my journey with the ups as well as the downs, and, and I do

Speaker:

want to be as transparent as possible.

Speaker:

So why am I doing this?

Speaker:

Well, part of it is I need to be doing this.

Speaker:

I mean, I am seen by many as the go-to Facebook Live or

Speaker:

live video confidence experts.

Speaker:

So I need to be doing this on a more regular basis anyway.

Speaker:

Um, I want, so this is really to increase my brand awareness.

Speaker:

I want to be able to promote my products.

Speaker:

I want to ultimately, I want my, my goal is to encourage, Encourage

Speaker:

you to be able to go live and to, to not stay where you are.

Speaker:

I want you to push forwards and encourage you in that.

Speaker:

So, and I also want to build relationships with guests that I have

Speaker:

on the show and also some sponsors.

Speaker:

Um, so I think that is, that's basically, uh, all about the, the, the

But maybe I'll share a little bit about me.

I know some of you will know me.

Speaker:

Uh, who are listening, but you may not know me if you are listening.

Speaker:

So, uh, just a little bit about me.

Speaker:

So I said before that I trained as a musician.

Speaker:

When I was at school, I really struggled between knowing what to do.

Speaker:

I suppose I struggled with my identity and I wasn't sure whether to go down the

Speaker:

science route because I loved science.

Speaker:

I still love science or the technology, or do I go down the performance route and.

Speaker:

My, my mom was an opera singer, uh, so there was definitely some music in the

Speaker:

family, but I, when it came to choosing where I was gonna go, I ended up going

Speaker:

to university to do music and, and then I went to the Royal Northern College

Speaker:

Music here in Manchester, in the UK to train as a professional classical singer.

Speaker:

Shortly after I left, I set up a web agency with my dad.

Speaker:

Um, I was very much involved with, with technology and building websites,

Speaker:

and so it seemed a good idea to build websites for my fellow musicians.

Speaker:

Skipped forward quite a few years and I wanted to create a blog, so I created a

Speaker:

blog with my, with my initials, I a g.

Speaker:

and that really changed everything for me.

Speaker:

I started writing blog posts about social media and technology,

Speaker:

which really interested me.

Speaker:

And I ended up being asked to speak at conferences, uh, particularly

Speaker:

as a, the, the big one for me was a conference in Manchester called

Speaker:

The Big Social Media Conference.

Speaker:

And we had, uh, some amazing people like Mary Smith and

Speaker:

Melanie Daro, uh, come to that.

Speaker:

And it was also where I met my partner in crime, Julia Bramble there.

Speaker:

And that was amazing.

Speaker:

And that same year, I think I've got this right, or it

Speaker:

could have been the year after.

Speaker:

I'll have to check my dates.

Speaker:

I was asked to speak at Social Media Marketing World for the first

Speaker:

time, which is the biggest social media conference in the world.

Speaker:

That changed everything again for me.

Speaker:

And uh, but I did really.

Speaker:

With imposter syndrome, and we're gonna do a whole episode in

Speaker:

imposter syndrome in the future.

Speaker:

But a lot of people believed in me.

Speaker:

At the time, I didn't believe in myself, but people believed in me

Speaker:

and that kept me going and going and going until the next thing that

Speaker:

happened, which was three years ago.

Speaker:

Everyone seems to have access to Facebook Live, but I didn't.

Speaker:

So I ended up doing some research and I wrote an article on how to

Speaker:

broadcast to Facebook Live from your.

Speaker:

And that article has add over 5 million page views.

Speaker:

Since that it allowed me to launch my first course, and I'm now speaking

Speaker:

around the world about live video.

Speaker:

But it was the most important thing really.

Speaker:

Here was an epiphany moment for me, which is where I felt suddenly that.

Speaker:

All those little parts of my life, it were ca converged into this new

Speaker:

sub-brand, confident Live because I had that background in performance,

Speaker:

that background in teaching, I've been teaching, singing and, and other

Speaker:

types of, of things over the years.

Speaker:

And also my love of technology and all of them merge with

Speaker:

Confident Live and also my, my.

Speaker:

Joy and my real, uh, wanting to help people build their confidence

Speaker:

and, uh, get through those barriers that are holding them back.

Speaker:

So that's a little bit about me.

Speaker:

I'll be sharing some more about my story, uh, over the

Speaker:

coming few weeks and episodes.

Speaker:

So why did it take such a long time for me to get round to doing this?

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

This podcast almost never happened, and it is true.

Speaker:

I came up with the idea about a year ago.

Speaker:

I was speaking with my friends, Mike and Isabella, and asking them if

Speaker:

they could help me with the music at the beginning of the podcast,

Speaker:

and I've just checked the emails.

Speaker:

It was, it was about a year ago, and I've been talking with them

Speaker:

for ages and I hope you agree.

Speaker:

They did an amazing job with the intro.

Speaker:

Uh, for this.

Speaker:

So part of the issue is for me, procrastination, but if we dig a little

Speaker:

bit deeper in that, I wonder whether you suffer from procrastination.

Speaker:

But part of that is maybe, um, if I'm being totally honest, a lack of

Speaker:

self-confidence and the ability that I have to compare myself with others

Speaker:

and overcomplicate over complication and a bit of imposter syndrome.

Speaker:

All of those mixed together.

Speaker:

And so I wonder whether you suffer from those things because those things have

Speaker:

been holding me back and not believing in the gifts that I have to share with

Speaker:

the world when it comes to live video.

Speaker:

The thing that's kept me going is the knowledge that my friends

Speaker:

out there have believed in me, and that has kept me going.

Speaker:

That is why I'm here today, and I, I encourage you.

Speaker:

If you are not in a mastermind group, if you do not have people around you who

Speaker:

are the encouragers, you need to find those people because otherwise you may

Speaker:

not be, uh, getting your full, uh, uh, potential, fulfilling your full potential.

Speaker:

So those are our, those traits.

Speaker:

The, the, uh, comparison syndrome over complication.

Speaker:

Imposter syndrome.

Speaker:

Those are all what I call live video syndromes.

Speaker:

They are things that we can all suffer from and they can all

Speaker:

hold us back, but I want to.

Speaker:

Put those behind me and create content that is really gonna help you, uh,

Speaker:

move forwards in your business.

Speaker:

And I wanna share my journey.

Speaker:

I want to share the, the things that I get wrong as well as

Speaker:

the things that I get right.

Speaker:

And one of the reasons why I didn't go live was because I was worried about

Speaker:

my background and about my webcam.

Speaker:

I'm actually using a C nine 20 webcam for this, uh, which is not.

Speaker:

Not the most amazing one, but it's a pretty good camera

Speaker:

for people starting out.

Speaker:

But I was wanting to take things to the next level and get a really,

Speaker:

really nice camera for that.

Speaker:

But then I started to think to myself, the more I procrastinate about this

Speaker:

and start looking at the technology, the more I let people wait and I need

Speaker:

to start sharing my message with my a.

Speaker:

. So I think that's about it for this episode.

You really need your sound.

And that is a, that's a really good point, Tim, because this is one of the big

problems at the moment if you do multicast to lots of different network networks.

It's something I don't recommend that people do, to be honest.

Speaker:

Uh, broadcasting to more than one platform.

Speaker:

And there is a reason why I'm doing it this way, and I'll

Speaker:

explain in a minute, but one of the big reasons is that you can't.

Speaker:

Get to keep track of those, mult those comments across all those

Speaker:

different platforms very easily.

Speaker:

It's, it's a real pain.

Speaker:

So, uh, it would be great if there was a common aggregator, the

Speaker:

kind of is one with e-comm live.

Speaker:

If you link it up with, um, what's it called again?

Speaker:

restream.io, they have kind of got a comment aggregator, but

Speaker:

it's a little bit bugging and it doesn't work in, in all situations.

Speaker:

And more to the point with restream.io, you can't schedule your live broadcast.

Speaker:

So that's no good to me.

Speaker:

Uh, no.

Speaker:

The reason why I'm doing it to Facebook Live and LinkedIn live

Speaker:

is really that Facebook Live is, is really where my home is.

Speaker:

But LinkedIn live is something I totally see the power of.

Speaker:

And LinkedIn is something that I really want to go.

Speaker:

All out on.

Speaker:

And I've, I've been seeing so much interaction.

Speaker:

Uh, I mean, we've got loads of people watching us live

Speaker:

on LinkedIn, which is great.

Speaker:

Uh, so I, I definitely see that as a really powerful thing.

Speaker:

Also, you know, I, I, uh, LinkedIn live is still on the closed beater at the

Speaker:

moment, so it's something that I really want to play around with and test.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's good.

I can't actually see anything.

That's basically what I see is, looks like in black, uh, just a black screen there.

Tim says, well, I could be, but my old PC laptop, it's a Dell, uh, I

five processor thing and it's about nine years old and it's only just

I think at some point I will definitely buy a a a, a PC that

I'll be able to broadcast to lots of different platforms at the same time.

I don't know.

I think just one or two for, for now.

It was quite interesting actually, or quite bizarre.

Uh, last week I was speaking at info show, which is the biggest, so

biggest not social media, but biggest technology conference in central Europe.

Speaker:

So I was speaking in, in Poland, in, in Gdansk.

Speaker:

I don't think you pronounce.

Speaker:

So it's Dansk, which is on the, the, the north of Poland.

Speaker:

And at the end of the end of my torque, uh, there were a few

Speaker:

questions, but the next person had some, uh, problems with their laptop.

Speaker:

And so the host room host kept me up there and asked me lots of random

Speaker:

questions like, what's my favorite car?

Speaker:

And do I support Manchester United or Manchester City?

Speaker:

I had to say, I don't support either of them because I'm not

Speaker:

really into football or soccer.

Speaker:

Which was not the right thing to say.

Speaker:

But anyway, he then asked me to sing , so I had to sing in front

Speaker:

of, I dunno how many people there.

Speaker:

I reckon three to 400, maybe even more people in, in the audience.

Speaker:

It seems like a lot of people there.

Speaker:

Uh, and so I sang an American folk song called Shenandoah.

Speaker:

Um, so that was, that was really fun.

Yes.

And Tish also says, uh, you'll have to do a podcast about letting us

know how your New Mac is doing.

I've had some problems with my Mac over the years.

Uh, so the appeal of Twitch is, Easiest to monetize.

That depends on what you were doing.

That's a really interesting point.

Uh, that's what I've heard about Twitch.

Speaker:

It's, it's, it's quite easy to monetize, but that's not actually my, my aim.

Speaker:

I'm not, Uh, I'm definitely aiming to, uh, to be able to get sponsors

Speaker:

to pay for all the editing.

Speaker:

I, I don't wanna end up having to do all the editing and the video editing

Speaker:

and doing all that kind of stuff.

Speaker:

Uh, so sponsors are gonna be able to pay for that kind of stuff.

Speaker:

But really for me, it's, it's about, uh, awareness.

Speaker:

I want to, to get my, uh, my name out there.

Speaker:

I want to be able to help more and more people.

Speaker:

Uh, I do wanna monetize it though.

Speaker:

indirectly.

Speaker:

So I do want to grow my business and I'm gonna talk quite openly about this,

Speaker:

about my struggles over the years.

Speaker:

But one of the things that really, uh, Uh, what's the word?

Speaker:

Resonated with me was, uh, a few, was it like a year ago?

Speaker:

Somebody said, I think it was Troy Dean from WP Elevation said,

you can't help people if you don't run a profitable business.

Speaker:

And so my focus definitely is, has been, uh, over the last couple of years to, to

Speaker:

grow a profitable business because my, my aim is to help more and more people and.

Speaker:

Money is important, you know, I wanna support my family, I wanna support you.

Speaker:

And so, yes, monetization, but not directly through the, the

Speaker:

podcast, if that makes sense.
