Shownotes

In this week's episode, I'm talking about how to make launch-size revenue without launching — and the real-life predicament that comes up on nearly every discovery call I take.

So many of the people I speak to have something demanding, non-negotiable, happening outside their business — caring for elderly parents, recovering from illness, raising young children. There's no shame in choosing to step back during that season if that's what's needed. But for most people, there isn't a backup plan, so the work still has to happen. And what a lot of them discover is that their 2–3K months, with the occasional surprise 5K month, don't actually hold up once you work out what they're earning per hour once marketing, admin and taxes are factored in.

This is where the advice from bro marketers falls apart. Cancel your holidays, work through your kids' childhood, hustle now so you can rest later — it's not sustainable, and it's not necessary once you understand the actual mechanics of getting to a consistent 10K month. That comes down to three things: a strong, hyper-specific personal brand, one clear premium offer with a defined client journey, and a simple offer suite underneath it — a freebie, a workshop, and eventually a mini offer — that does the selling for you without a live launch every quarter.

The takeaway: simplicity isn't a nice-to-have here. It's the whole strategy.

Polly Lavarello:

Welcome to Make More Money Without Selling Your Soul, the

2

:

podcast for bold entrepreneurs ready to

simplify, scale, and reclaim their time.

3

:

I'm Polly Lavarello, evergreen scaling

strategist and cushy business pioneer.

4

:

Join me and my occasional guests as we

explore the themes of wealth, selling,

5

:

and wellbeing, because building a business

that works for you changes everything.

6

:

Let's dive in.

7

:

Hello, and welcome to the show.

8

:

Now, I wanna talk about how to make launch

size revenue without launching, and not

9

:

in a really naff way, not like a, "Just

build this funnel and build that funnel."

10

:

I wanna talk to you about the very

real-life predicament of so many people

11

:

who get on discovery calls with me,

and here's what they nearly always

12

:

say in one flavor or another, okay?

13

:

So the common predicament is,

"I have something going on in my

14

:

life outside of my business that

requires a lot of my attention."

15

:

Sometimes that's caring

for elderly parents.

16

:

In some cases, I have had clients who are

experiencing cancer or recovering cancer.

17

:

In some scenarios, my clients have

children, and they are the primary

18

:

carer So many different things, right?

19

:

And not here, by the way, to dictate

what should or shouldn't do in that

20

:

scenario,

21

:

okay?

22

:

I know in s- in some scenarios, people

choose to not work in that time.

23

:

And if that is the avenue currently

exploring, please, I don't want you to

24

:

feel any shame because ultimately people

are in a similar predicament to myself,

25

:

which is there ain't no backup plan.

26

:

A girl's gotta live, a girl's gotta

eat, a girl's gotta pay her bills.

27

:

So while it would be lovely to be

able to put time and energy fully

28

:

into these things, sometimes the

necessity to work is still there.

29

:

But equally, we only have our one body,

our one health, our one life, and we know

30

:

burn

31

:

out if we do things badly, okay?

32

:

a lot of the time these people come

to me and they are experienced.

33

:

have

34

:

clients who get brilliant results.

35

:

But what they're also aware of is that

if they were to continue earning, let's

36

:

say, 2 to 3K months and maybe occasionally

a 5K month that kind of comes out the

37

:

blue, they know that for the amount

of time they need to spend marketing

38

:

themselves, doing admin, doing taxes,

what they end up paying themselves

39

:

hourly isn't really a reflection of

what the hours are that they work.

40

:

And some people have a really horrible

reality check as to that they are earning

41

:

less than they would in a conventional

job, and it's just not feeling worth it.

42

:

So I guess are kind two

scenarios wrapped into one.

43

:

The one where you're working so hard

and what initially felt like, "Oh, I'll

44

:

feel good when I get to three, four, 5K

months," suddenly doesn't feel so good

45

:

when you recognize that is involved.

46

:

And also the scenario where your health

or your family's health or your family's

47

:

wellbeing is something that is also

your responsibility on your mental shelf

48

:

and your business needs to be running.

49

:

And I think this is really important

to speak to because equally I've

50

:

spoken to people who've never had to

think about any of these things, and

51

:

they've been able to hustle and they've

told me, "Oh, I love the work I do.

52

:

I don't even count the hours I do."

53

:

And, um, you know um, and

54

:

th-they

55

:

know they love what they do.

56

:

They don't wanna go back into an office.

57

:

They don't wanna have a boss.

58

:

They are really used to the freedom

and flexibility they have, but

59

:

they would like some more money to

show for what they're doing, right?

60

:

Because, you know, they're looking

at all these other people who are

61

:

no more qualified than them, in some

cases radically less experienced than

62

:

them,

63

:

who are making more money and with

apparently a heck of a lot more

64

:

ease, and it doesn't seem fair.

65

:

In those moments, we just wanna

throw our toys at the pram, right?

66

:

So I've given you the context here, right?

67

:

And I'm giving you this context 'cause

this context matters because very

68

:

often in this space, the advice we're

receiving are from bro marketers.

69

:

I hate that term 'cause it's

very generalized and, um, don't

70

:

know, and kind of simple really.

71

:

But to kind

72

:

of summarize

73

:

what I'm referring to when I talk about

bro marketers, I'm talking about people

74

:

who glamorize what it is to hustle.

75

:

Cancel your Netflix subscription,

cancel your holidays.

76

:

Your kids don't need to see you.

77

:

They're gonna watch you working hard

and making money, and that's the

78

:

best thing you can do for your kids.

79

:

Quite a few toxic uh, things that can

feel reassuring in those early stages.

80

:

And look, I'm not gonna pretend earlier

on in business there isn't what I

81

:

refer to as the push before the cush.

82

:

I

83

:

always say,

84

:

despite there being a

85

:

push

86

:

before the cush, it is really important

that we get ourselves out of that

87

:

mindset, out of those habits, out

of those behaviors when we recognize

88

:

we've achieved growth and to get

to the next level of scaling, it is

89

:

not about working more hours 'cause

there are no more hours to be found.

90

:

It is about working smarter.

91

:

And a lot of people at this stage will

almost not feel safe in recognizing that

92

:

more doesn't always necessitate more.

93

:

It, you know, it is the whole

work smarter, not harder thing.

94

:

I know it's a but it's mother effing true.

95

:

Okay?

96

:

So yeah.

97

:

You know, and, and obviously

why are they talking to me?

98

:

Because

99

:

I am

100

:

the woman back in 2020 who was two years

into being on Universal Credit with two

101

:

children who were very young, um, at

infant school and, and, and younger.

102

:

And, uh, so you know, I, I literally grew

my business within a baptism of fire.

103

:

And I did burn myself out basically

at the very beginning of my business.

104

:

I burnt myself out contracting before

105

:

I even went

106

:

all

107

:

in as

108

:

a personal brand.

109

:

It

110

:

was actually all in as

111

:

a personal

112

:

brand a response to Okay.

113

:

So-

114

:

What need to those

115

:

may feel

116

:

like 10K months beyond?

117

:

me, it's so true getting to your 10K month

118

:

is

119

:

so much harder anything that.

120

:

get 10K

121

:

month,

122

:

a lot of getting to the next 20K,

123

:

30K month simply just refining upon what

124

:

you have

125

:

already and down on the that work.

126

:

It

127

:

becomes so

128

:

much easier.

129

:

But to get to that first 10K you

130

:

require, require essentially three things.

131

:

You

132

:

require

133

:

a

134

:

strong brand And it

135

:

really

136

:

really, helps have hyper niche, just a, "I

137

:

help women their

138

:

health."

139

:

That's not

140

:

even a niche.

141

:

What kind

142

:

of women?

143

:

What of

144

:

their

145

:

health,

146

:

what

147

:

is

148

:

the results that desire?

149

:

is the keeping

150

:

them at night you promise them?

151

:

Uh, one beautiful of is

152

:

I have wonderful client

inside the accelerator

153

:

who came

154

:

to me

155

:

and shared she loved

156

:

being a witchy therapist wasn't

if was of or marketable, I

157

:

encouraged

158

:

her to double that niche

159

:

and she went-- now got, 8,000 followers.

160

:

I don't think--

161

:

I'm not even sure she

1,000 when we started out

162

:

working together.

163

:

Um, I accurate.

164

:

I know certainly was,

165

:

um, much lower

166

:

than

167

:

8,000.

168

:

Um, Um, you so

169

:

many

170

:

of

171

:

us overthink our niche is.

172

:

Our niche is

173

:

very

174

:

often we are

175

:

stripped back.

176

:

Who we

177

:

are we're not hiding in

the shadow, we into light.

178

:

And that

179

:

permission slip

180

:

for others who to work us.

181

:

So a of our story a

182

:

part the that we've part

183

:

of

184

:

and clients that

185

:

we've

186

:

supported.

187

:

It's, it's

188

:

some

189

:

big mental

190

:

gymnastic

191

:

It's, it's ready.

192

:

It's in front of

193

:

if allow yourself see it.

194

:

Okay, so

195

:

strong personal

196

:

brand is the first piece

197

:

you need

198

:

because,

199

:

like say, that, that client, I've another

200

:

client hundreds

201

:

of thousands

202

:

of followers,

203

:

similarly has a hyper niche

204

:

and

205

:

has

206

:

spoken repetitively about hyper

207

:

niche that why

208

:

his

209

:

following is

210

:

growing

211

:

so rapidly.

212

:

the why

213

:

both of cclients

214

:

are killing it

215

:

is because they've not overthought

216

:

it.

217

:

They've

218

:

not it, it.

219

:

They've not of

220

:

been "Oh, but should

221

:

I

222

:

re-niche should

223

:

I

224

:

pivot?"

225

:

They've just gone in, okay?

226

:

So niche, the brand really

important and of course, you your

227

:

following,

228

:

as you

229

:

grow

230

:

engagement,

231

:

you

232

:

need

233

:

to have the piece, which what

234

:

is clear

235

:

client journey?

236

:

Like, are

237

:

they buying you?

238

:

And

239

:

at the very of that journey, genuinely get

240

:

to 10K

241

:

months

242

:

one premium

243

:

offer, I

244

:

recommend

245

:

that do that because that your and energy

246

:

will be split between

247

:

delivery, after your premium clients, then

248

:

also marketing, making

249

:

sure that you've a stream new

250

:

clients coming

251

:

in.

252

:

selling, which following up with

253

:

those

254

:

leads

255

:

and following up

256

:

with conversations you had, those always

257

:

be

258

:

the people who gonna be to from And

259

:

that

260

:

is

261

:

the thing many avoid

262

:

early on in

263

:

business.

264

:

like, have of people

265

:

commenting on content, but why

266

:

is buying?"

267

:

Have ever

268

:

engaged any of

269

:

them?

270

:

early

271

:

on in

272

:

business, while your

273

:

messaging

274

:

isn't refined will down

275

:

the line, you're

276

:

not

277

:

entirely

278

:

confident about what it

279

:

is your messaging that really hook,

280

:

line, people

281

:

in,

282

:

conversations really

283

:

really matter.

284

:

in those conversations

inform messaging make million

285

:

times

286

:

stronger.

287

:

Okay?

288

:

So

289

:

first

290

:

line is

291

:

strong personal brand.

292

:

Second part

293

:

is

294

:

make you have an

295

:

offer,

296

:

and ideally

297

:

I start with

298

:

a 12-week premium

299

:

offer, okay?

300

:

12 weeks to

301

:

desired transformation.

302

:

If

303

:

it needs eight, it be eight.

304

:

8 12

305

:

weeks.

306

:

will much

307

:

hand their money

308

:

for something

309

:

where, I that result by

310

:

Christmas.

311

:

I can see by

312

:

the summer.

313

:

I see

314

:

that result

315

:

Easter."

316

:

Brilliant, it's much

317

:

easier you

318

:

to be able say,

319

:

"Here

320

:

are the steps we take to get there,"

321

:

because three

322

:

months, steps, and

323

:

you

324

:

won't have to do

325

:

crazy

326

:

mental gymnastic to there.

327

:

okay?

328

:

again, well

329

:

actually I've episodes where I talk

330

:

about express methodology process.

331

:

go

332

:

back one

333

:

of you to know more

334

:

about that.

335

:

not talk that here

336

:

I this

337

:

top level help

338

:

you what's gonna you to 10K okay?

339

:

So you've got personal

340

:

brand, you've the offer, time is

divided between marketing, selling,

341

:

and

342

:

client delivery.

343

:

As learn more your clients

where are repeatedly

344

:

supporting exactly same

thing, where you creating

345

:

the same

346

:

re- that you share time

347

:

and

348

:

time again, that

349

:

will the basis of

350

:

your group program.

351

:

you can't 10K month a

352

:

premium

353

:

offer alone, group would

354

:

be the

355

:

next step.

356

:

So not necessarily offer,

357

:

right?

358

:

group program.

359

:

are you gonna your group program?

360

:

How are you it

361

:

without exhausting live

362

:

launches

363

:

every quarter

364

:

that

365

:

sense of "Okay, just sit

366

:

here and my fi- fingers

367

:

for the

368

:

next three months," gonna have be on deck

369

:

every single to

370

:

launch."

371

:

do

372

:

we find that middle ground,

373

:

okay?

374

:

The

375

:

middle ground is have

376

:

a freebie

377

:

that are signing up a

378

:

someone in than 10

379

:

minutes, essentially

walks people your process.

380

:

then on the side of

381

:

that, have a or

382

:

better

383

:

still have an

384

:

invitation to

385

:

a

386

:

workshop

387

:

that you

388

:

are running

389

:

that

390

:

month.

391

:

And

392

:

I would

393

:

have the

394

:

freebie running in the background

a workshop I run at least

395

:

once a

396

:

month.

397

:

running ads, maybe more regularly

398

:

than

399

:

once

400

:

a

401

:

month.

402

:

And

403

:

literally, when you those two

404

:

pieces, the third piece, course,

405

:

I'm

406

:

'cause

407

:

this is really you're at months you wanna

408

:

go

409

:

beyond,

410

:

that where you

411

:

want layer in

412

:

your

413

:

mini offer.

414

:

me wrong, you layer in your

415

:

mini offer

416

:

on.

417

:

have a lot of

418

:

clients who have

419

:

done very successfully.

420

:

you

421

:

do

422

:

approach this

423

:

order.

424

:

Start with

425

:

your offer, to group program,

426

:

then reverse engineer to what

427

:

your freebie your offer should be, okay?

428

:

and

429

:

that

430

:

will

431

:

also inform the

432

:

basis your

433

:

Like,

434

:

the- these

435

:

are not entirely

436

:

separate These are

437

:

all

438

:

rooted clear

439

:

client journey.

440

:

Like, what somebody need know they

441

:

can feel confident you for them?

442

:

What different your methodology

443

:

and process

444

:

that they

445

:

need

446

:

to hear to feel to take the

447

:

next steps?

448

:

they feel confident next steps,

449

:

is there or

450

:

a offer that can

451

:

go

452

:

through

453

:

to give them

454

:

those additional touch points

455

:

and

456

:

confidence

457

:

in in

458

:

you?

459

:

do have invitation wait

list a group program

460

:

that can go

461

:

and join if not quite or a financial

462

:

position your one-to-one?

463

:

And that is

464

:

how simple offer suite

465

:

gets be.

466

:

offer,

467

:

group

468

:

program.

469

:

And lot

470

:

of

471

:

my

472

:

clients, program's scaling,

473

:

they

474

:

remove one-to-one altogether or

475

:

they'll have some

476

:

premium mastermind, whatever floats

477

:

your boat.

478

:

Basically,

479

:

as

480

:

you're making

481

:

more money, you options, okay?

482

:

at one

483

:

point had I making 30K a my group

484

:

alone.

485

:

That, that was fun.

486

:

so So- That is how it gets be.

487

:

Use premium

488

:

offer, your personal

branding, and list building

489

:

to get a 10K

490

:

month.

491

:

then that,

492

:

add the offer so when

493

:

you're running ads to

494

:

grow your

495

:

list, you've

496

:

got

497

:

exciting,

498

:

fresh, new

499

:

beings

500

:

excited your

501

:

business, you have really

entry point them to into with

502

:

your

503

:

mini

504

:

offer

505

:

or workshop.

506

:

Like, the two is amazing.

507

:

full

508

:

transparency, currently a funnel

509

:

running

510

:

that still my three everyday

511

:

sales

512

:

system.

513

:

So

514

:

people

515

:

these three funnels that

516

:

I'm about You maps

517

:

so can

518

:

learn

519

:

how in your

520

:

business.

521

:

in

522

:

fact, I'm in the

523

:

show notes so you download that

524

:

today.

525

:

people who want install mini offer

526

:

straight away, you download

the freebie, you get

527

:

get,

528

:

it's over a 75% discount on

529

:

the mini offer system, is a process

530

:

takes to launching 14

531

:

days, and literally has everything in

532

:

there.

533

:

for ManyChat, a

534

:

template sales page using

you literally just in,

535

:

add your

536

:

branding.

537

:

got

538

:

for what you put

539

:

in.

540

:

mean, I've made easy someone

541

:

to go

542

:

from idea to weeks, and

543

:

I'm excited

544

:

about it.

545

:

So

546

:

that's funnel.

547

:

And on of that,

548

:

I be running

549

:

a workshop I people through actual

550

:

case studies of what

551

:

it looks like how they

552

:

can implement in their own

553

:

health wellness business.

554

:

that's, I'm

555

:

I'm

556

:

literally about the thing that in my

557

:

own business and so of clients, I'll talk

558

:

about in

559

:

September the

560

:

workshop, doing successfully too

561

:

I guess if

562

:

you

563

:

wanted to think

564

:

about

565

:

what are the

566

:

core for you to take from

567

:

this episode is simplicity is king.

568

:

queen.

569

:

Yeah, let's

570

:

go with queen.

571

:

Simplicity

572

:

is

573

:

queen.

574

:

But yeah,

575

:

is

576

:

really important.

577

:

Keep offer

578

:

suite simple.

579

:

yourself in of your

580

:

ideal client.

581

:

wants 15 different to work with you.

582

:

wants be thinking,

583

:

"Should I be

584

:

doing their membership?

585

:

mini offer or should

586

:

I doing their group program?

587

:

Or which

588

:

group program I in?"

589

:

is

590

:

not More creates overwhelm, and a lot

591

:

of people will be telling

592

:

you

593

:

they're They just clicking

594

:

off, then a

595

:

competitor

596

:

will

597

:

advertise with

598

:

a clean, easy

599

:

into with

600

:

them, and you've lost them.

601

:

Okay?

602

:

So

603

:

keep simple.

604

:

Keep

605

:

it really clearly connected

606

:

to what your

607

:

ideal client

608

:

desires.

609

:

all

610

:

on

611

:

social speaking a hyper-specific

612

:

way hyper-specific human being can't seen

613

:

in their content, is

happening again and again and

614

:

again again.

615

:

their,

616

:

the

617

:

velocity

618

:

at

619

:

which their media is growing unhinged.

620

:

Okay?

621

:

And

622

:

at same

623

:

time,

624

:

number inquiries coming are

625

:

also

626

:

through through

627

:

the roof

628

:

because their

629

:

content

630

:

is so-- Like it's

631

:

not even closely to work do,

632

:

it is the

633

:

work

634

:

So someone

635

:

likes their content they've

636

:

got money and desire

637

:

to solve the problem, there's a

638

:

clean,

639

:

easy into

640

:

doing Okay?

:
