Old Age Causes Wrinkles Not Wisdom – Wisdom Unplugged

The Wise Learns from the Fool- Unplugged

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is Day 695 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Old Age Causes Wrinkles Not Wisdom

Old Age Causes Wrinkles Not Wisdom 1

Today’s quote is from Abigail Van Buren (Dear Abby), and it is, “Wisdom doesn’t automatically come with old age. Nothing does — except wrinkles. It’s true some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.”

Although it should be a natural progression of an aging person, there are many old people, who are not wise. Even the wisest person to ever live, King Solomon realized that age does not equate to wisdom in Ecclesiastes 4:13, “It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice.”

Old Age Causes Wrinkles Not Wisdom 5

As Dear Abby wisely observes, old age does bring on wrinkles, and there is really no way to prevent them. But it certainly does not guarantee wisdom. Another astute observation is wine which improves with age, but only if it started out with grapes that are of superior quality. In the same manner, as a person ages, they will only become wise and have integrity if that is part of the very fabric of their life at their core during their youth.

If you desire to gain wisdom as you age, then you need to make sure that you live a life of integrity and that you are in continual pursuit of more and more wisdom. Not only should you become wiser with age, as a general principle the wiser you are, the longer you will live as is described in Proverbs [3:13]-18,

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom,
the one who gains understanding.
For wisdom is more profitable than silver,
and her wages are better than gold.
Wisdom is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
She offers you long life in her right hand,
and riches and honor in her left.
 She will guide you down delightful paths;
all her ways are satisfying.
Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
happy are those who hold her tightly.
