“I’m excited because in this next batch of recordings, we’re going to be stepping into more practical, stepping into more actionable, which is the whole point of why we do this work.” -Creek [11:41]
“Sharing things that are useful to the different strategies and instinctual biases, and the impact it has on them and all that, I think it will be interesting to hear, but it’s also fun to talk about.” -María José Munita [12:32]

And welcome back to another Awareness to Action Enneagram podcast.
Speaker A:I am with my waggish co hosts, Mario Sikora and Maria Jose Munita.
Speaker A:Have you heard of this word waggish?
Speaker B:I'm not familiar with that word.
Speaker B:Really?
Speaker A:Okay, so this word comes from our longtime listener Joel, who just said I should use this word.
Speaker A:It means playfully humorous and mischievous.
Speaker B:That's interesting.
Speaker B:Yeah, that's not a word I was familiar with.
Speaker B:Thank you, Joel.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Joe always brings light and insight into our world.
Speaker A:This is true.
Speaker A:This is true.
Speaker A:All right, so we've been off the interwebs for a while, or at least I have.
Speaker A:We finished Fathom season five and finished.
Speaker A:Or took a pause for winners to action.
Speaker A:So I'm.
Speaker B:I'm.
Speaker B:We finished.
Speaker B:We finished season one.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, the 141.
Speaker C:Three years later.
Speaker A:So, yeah, I'm just hoping I remember how to do this, how to.
Speaker A:How to talk, so.
Speaker A:Haven't had to do this.
Speaker A:So what have you guys been up to the past four months?
Speaker C:Four months?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:It was a long hiatus, wasn't it?
Speaker C:Lots of work on my end.
Speaker C:It's not some.
Speaker C:It hasn't been summer here, so it's just regular working year.
Speaker C:Some traveling.
Speaker C:Interesting work.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Maria Jose and I were in the UK for a while back in October.
Speaker A:That's right.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:What were you guys doing there?
Speaker B:We were doing work with a client there.
Speaker B:So we were there for what, 10, 11 days, I think.
Speaker B:Were.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:What did you do outside of the work?
Speaker C:We went to the Cotswolds.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker B:And Bath.
Speaker A:Yeah, I like Bath better, I assume.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker C:You can call a hike, like going up a hill driving.
Speaker B:That's true.
Speaker B:We do.
Speaker A:Another pub.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah, no, no, we.
Speaker B:We took a walk in.
Speaker B:In Bath with our.
Speaker B:With our friend Pavel, who's a podcast listener and from Scotland.
Speaker B:He came down and met us and we had a nice time.
Speaker B:So, yeah, it was a good trip.
Speaker B:I spent some time in LA with my wife and one of my sons.
Speaker B:And what else?
Speaker B:Yeah, so it's been.
Speaker B:Been busy things.
Speaker B:It's been a.
Speaker B:Been a busy, hectic time.
Speaker B:How about you, Creek?
Speaker A:Yeah, I guess.
Speaker A:Well, shortly after.
Speaker A:I guess that was.
Speaker A:Was that the iea?
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, the IEA conference happened and.
Speaker A:That was a lot of fun.
Speaker A:It was a lot of work.
Speaker A:Me, the Fathoms team and Lee did a whole podcasting thing at the conference where that you should go check out at the IEA podcast where we recorded a bunch of mini stories with the community there.
Speaker A:Turned out to be really fascinating.
Speaker A:We had, like, a massive line when it came to signups.
Speaker A:We had to open up another room and another day in order to capture as many as possible.
Speaker A:It was pretty crazy, but really, really proud of the team.
Speaker A:We pulled it off.
Speaker A:And then we also sat down with the likes of Suzanne Stabile, Jerry Wagner, Pat o', Leary, Christopher Copeland, Renee Rosario, Russ Hudson, and Linda Roberts.
Speaker A:All the legends there.
Speaker A:And Mario, of course.
Speaker B:That's right now we've covered all the legends.
Speaker A:The list is complete now.
Speaker A:Um, so we got to sit down with them.
Speaker A:And the whole thing was really about Less about the theory.
Speaker A:Like we.
Speaker A:We said before we hit record, we're not talking about.
Speaker A:We're not trying to talk about Enneagram here.
Speaker A:We're trying to talk about who are you and how has your story informed how you teach the Enneagram.
Speaker A:So we got a lot of stories, a lot of really funny things, and.
Speaker A:And some things I've never heard before.
Speaker A:So, yeah, it was really fun.
Speaker A:It was a lot of work, but kind of just enjoyed summer and traveled a bit.
Speaker A:And I'm actually in Florida right now.
Speaker B:Whereabouts.
Speaker A:I am in Tampa at the moment, but.
Speaker B:Oh, great.
Speaker B:Cigar places in Tampa.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker B:Go to ybor and.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker B:7Th Avenue.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Yeah, we went to.
Speaker C:So do you go there every time you're in Tampa, Mario?
Speaker B:Every time I'm in Tampa, I go there.
Speaker A:I. I go over to Ebola.
Speaker A:Went.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Went to a.
Speaker A:Went to a cigar museum, which was interesting.
Speaker B:So, yeah.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:So, yeah, headed to Nashville next and then back home for the holidays, so very nice.
Speaker B:You're wandering, man.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker C:So do we want to share why we're doing video now?
Speaker C:Because that's a difference.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker B:Do we have a reason?
Speaker C:I'm not sure, but maybe we want to talk about it, you know?
Speaker C:Or not.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So you will be able to find.
Speaker A:Beginning now, you'll be able to find our YouTube channel.
Speaker A:What was.
Speaker A:I don't even know.
Speaker A:You just created it, Mario.
Speaker A:What's our YouTube channel?
Speaker B:ATA Podcast Network.
Speaker B:Yeah, there you go.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:ATA Podcast Network.
Speaker B:So look it up.
Speaker A:Great.
Speaker B:Yeah, I just created it yesterday, you know.
Speaker B:So what do you.
Speaker B:What do you want?
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:You get to see our jovial faces, our waggish faces.
Speaker C:And I have to be careful.
Speaker C:That's what you're into with the faces we make now, you know, not forget that.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker C:We're being recorded.
Speaker A:We can't.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And, you know, Mario can't pick his nose all the time, so.
Speaker B:Well, I can, but you can.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:ATA Podcast Network.
Speaker B:Yes, That's.
Speaker B:That's what?
Speaker A:There it is.
Speaker A:We'll have it in the show notes.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker C:So the reason at least why I agreed to do it this way, it's.
Speaker C:I think it's.
Speaker C:I'm hoping that we feel kind of closer to people.
Speaker C:I think that our podcast is, I don't know, for those who listen to it, they enjoy it and they feel like they're with us with video.
Speaker C:I hope that that's even more the case.
Speaker C:I tend to watch quite a few podcasts and social media with video and I'm interested in those things, so maybe people will too.
Speaker C:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:So I'll just have to pretend I'm not bored.
Speaker A:So that'll be.
Speaker B:Well, will people be able to see us all at the same time or.
Speaker A:We'll see.
Speaker A:I will have to make that decision.
Speaker B:Figure that out.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:So if someone is not a coach or doesn't work in business, why should they listen?
Speaker B:They shouldn't go get a job.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:I think that most people.
Speaker B:Go ahead, go ahead, Maria.
Speaker C:I mean, do something with their lives.
Speaker C:You know, unless you're at home not doing anything.
Speaker C:But for any.
Speaker C:Anyone who.
Speaker B:Except watching podcasts on YouTube kind of.
Speaker C:Kind of activity, they need to influence people.
Speaker C:They have a personality and they find benefit in kind of how we work with each of these types and the three instinctual biases.
Speaker C:So they might find use as like the end user, not necessarily as a coach.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's things that people can apply to themselves.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So when we're talking about coaching fours, for example, all the fours out there can do some of the things we recommend and do some self coaching.
Speaker B:You know, when we work with people, you know, our engagements are limited with them and you know, it's not, you know, I have some clients who I've worked with for, you know, over time, you know, for long periods of time.
Speaker B:But those are special situations.
Speaker B:Usually what we're trying to do is equip people to continue to grow on their own.
Speaker B:So, you know, people who listen to this will pick up some tools for their own self development.
Speaker B:And what we do is not just for work.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:I mean that's, you know, we talk a lot about work because that's how we make our living.
Speaker B:But the reality is is that what do applies to using the enneagram in any area of life.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Whether it's your own self development or just about anything.
Speaker B:So don't be put off because we're going to be talking about how to coach people.
Speaker B:You're a people so you can coach yourself.
Speaker A:Oh man, that's great.
Speaker A:So if people are like, I love the podcast, I want more.
Speaker A:I've listened to all the episodes.
Speaker B:You want more of that waggishness?
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Where.
Speaker A:Where else could they learn more about the ATA way of being now a certification program.
Speaker C:You have a certificate?
Speaker B:We do.
Speaker B:Atacertification.com.
Speaker B:check it out.
Speaker B:Also, you know, we, we're going to be doing a couple of other podcasts.
Speaker B:You know, we're going to be doing the Enneagram in a movie.
Speaker B:Podcast is picking back up in January with TJ and I.
Speaker B:And you and Lee and I are going to be doing something on clear thinking.
Speaker B:You know, the first season will probably be clear thinking in the Enneagram, but then clear thinking in general.
Speaker B:So lots of places to get more ATA fixes, you know, including our new YouTube channel, ATA Podcast Network.
Speaker A:Man, we have so many things to.
Speaker B:Plug right now, I'm telling you.
Speaker A:So you've been doing something, you've been doing a big overhaul on the certification prick program, am I right?
Speaker B:We're working on that, yes.
Speaker B:It's still in the works.
Speaker B:But, you know, how long have we been doing this certification program?
Speaker C:13 years.
Speaker B:13 years.
Speaker B:Really?
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker B:And it has gone through lots of iterations.
Speaker B:It used to be live in person, like all these things were.
Speaker B:They would be, you know, there'd be three levels of five days each.
Speaker B:Covid changed that.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And even, you know, with COVID it went through an iteration from a full live online program to, you know, now a lot of pre recorded content with some live sessions.
Speaker B:But we want to continue to keep upgrading it and making it better and making it more engaging and more useful and give people more and more tools.
Speaker B:So we are in the process of continuing to update and upgrade the program.
Speaker A:Yeah, that's really exciting.
Speaker A:Well, well, I'll say this.
Speaker A:I. I'm excited to.
Speaker A:As we've talked about, you know, theory is really important.
Speaker A:How we think about the theory, how we define our terms, all those sort of things.
Speaker A:That's the past 141 episodes.
Speaker A:But I think I'm excited because in this, in this next batch of recordings, we're going to be stepping into more practical, stepping into more actionable, which is the whole point of why we do this work.
Speaker A:So I'm curious for you all, is there anything else that you're excited about when it comes to the next batch of recordings?
Speaker C:Yeah, I think that it's.
Speaker C:Look, it's what we do like almost every day and it's fun to talk about it.
Speaker C:And I think that the people who study with us in the certification program always value getting to hear how we do the work and examples and things like that.
Speaker C:And of course, we need to be careful with confidentiality here.
Speaker C:And we will be careful, but trying, I mean, sharing things that are useful to the different kind of strategies and instinctual biases and the impact it has on them and all that, it's just, I think it will be interesting to hear, but it's also fun to talk about.
Speaker B:We call our company Awareness to Action and that's because the end is action.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:What are we going to do?
Speaker B:How are we going to change?
Speaker B:How are we going to grow?
Speaker B:All this self awareness stuff is really just to support that.
Speaker B:What we do with our clients is try to help them, you know, live fuller lives.
Speaker B:It's fascinating to me.
Speaker B:And it's usually people who don't understand the business world.
Speaker B:You know, they've never had real jobs or you know, that sort of thing, who just assume that, you know, when you work with people in the business world, you're just dealing with, you know, business issues.
Speaker C:It's like robots.
Speaker B:You're dealing with human issues.
Speaker B:Yeah, right.
Speaker B:You know, it's, you know, you're dealing with humans who have human issues.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:How do I get along better with my co workers?
Speaker B:How do I find more happiness my.
Speaker B:Myself?
Speaker B:And then, you know, we always find people talking about, oh man, I went home and I was talking with my wife about this and you know, blah, blah, blah.
Speaker B:So, you know, we just have the, the great opportunity to work with people in, you know, kind of out in the field.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:It's kind of like being, you know, like Jane Goodall or something, you know, and going out into the, you know, into the, into the, you know, the real world with real people in their real places and working with them.
Speaker B:But it's doing the same kind of stuff that people do to grow and develop in any aspect of their life.
Speaker B:So, you know, we're just really looking forward to being able to share that with people.
Speaker A:And when you say people have real jobs, what do you mean by that?
Speaker C:Well, yeah, I think that here we're talking about like people who, who believe that.
Speaker C:And I'll repeat what Mario said, but for some reason, and maybe it's not related to the job they have, for some reason people make this distinction that we work with business and like if it's something from another planet, you know, and it's just we work with people and they, most of them happen to work in businesses, but there's no Real reason to, I think, make that distinction as if they were of another species.
Speaker B:And when I say real job, I'm the first one to always tell people that I do what I do so I don't have to get a real job.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And what I mean by real job is where you, you know, you kind of have to go in and work as part of a bigger something.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:And there are, you know, bosses that you have to answer to and subordinates that you have to answer to.
Speaker B:And, you know, you don't have the freedom to say, you know what?
Speaker B:I don't feel like doing this today.
Speaker B:So I'm just not.
Speaker B:So, you know, when I talk about real jobs, look, almost, you know, everybody does work of some sort or another, but there is a.
Speaker B:There's a difference between, you know, it's kind of like having a family, right?
Speaker B:You can't leave your family necessarily.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:You know, you're stuck with your family.
Speaker B:You can't leave them, but, you know, you're stuck with them to a greater extent.
Speaker B:You can't choose your family necessarily.
Speaker B:It's the same thing when people go to work.
Speaker B:It's like, I've got to deal with this, right?
Speaker B:Because I can't just say, you know what, I'm not doing this tomorrow, or I'm not coming back here.
Speaker B:And that puts an added pressure on things.
Speaker B:So that.
Speaker B:That's what I mean.
Speaker B:I don't mean to denigrate anybody who's not in the corporate world in that sense.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker B:Because I'm not.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:Fair enough.
Speaker A:All right, great.
Speaker A:Well, we actually had a short episode this time, so maybe because we didn't say it's a short episode at the beginning, so maybe that's the trick.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker A:All right, folks, we'll talk to you next episode.
Speaker A:Thanks for listening to the Awareness to Action Enneagram podcast.
