You finish something small, send the email, make the call, check the account and immediately discount it. "It wasn't a big deal. It barely counted."
This episode breaks down why we minimize our small wins, what it's actually costing us in momentum, and what real progress looks like for the woman who's building something that lasts.
If you measure yourself against where you think you should be instead of where you were yesterday, this one's for you.

How many times have you done something, you sent an email, you looked at the
Speaker:account, you made the call, and then you immediately turned around and discounted
Speaker:it like it's not that big of a deal?
Speaker:Like, it barely counted.
Speaker:There- it was just a little thing, right?
Speaker:Almost like you need to apologize for it not being bigger.
Speaker:Here's what we wanna talk about today.
Speaker:That baby step, that small step that you keep dismissing, it's doing way more than
Speaker:you're giving yourself credit for, and the habit of it minimizing, the habit
Speaker:of minimizing it is, might be the exact thing that's slowing down your progress.
Speaker:So, today we're talking about the real cost of the things that stay undone,
Speaker:what actually happens in your nervous system when a small thing finally gets
Speaker:done, why we minimize the small wins and what it costs us, and then what momentum
Speaker:actually looks like for the entrepreneur who's building something real.
Speaker:So, if you are someone who measures yourself against where you think you
Speaker:should be instead of where you were yesterday, I've got my hand up, I've
Speaker:been guilty of this, this one is for you.
Speaker:So let's get to it

Speaker:money and go beyond the numbers.
Speaker:I'm your host, Aimee Cerka.
Speaker:Welcome, I'm so glad you're here
Speaker:Welcome back to Money Simplified.
Speaker:Today, we are talking about the little things that you get done that we discount.
Speaker:So every single time… You know, you've done this, right?
Speaker:You've had something that's been on your list forever,
Speaker:and maybe it's a small thing.
Speaker:It only took like five minutes or so, and you can even hear
Speaker:it in my language, right?
Speaker:The only took five minutes, and we discount it.
Speaker:It's like, it's not a big deal.
Speaker:It was just a little thing.
Speaker:But-
Speaker:It matters.
Speaker:And especially if it's something that's been on the to-do list for a while
Speaker:that you keep putting off, and you keep putting off, and you keep avoiding,
Speaker:and then you finally do it, right?
Speaker:It's not just the time or the money that it's taking up, it's energy.
Speaker:We have all these open loops out here, and you're like quietly almost like
Speaker:stacking evidence against yourself, right?
Speaker:Telling yourself, "Oh, this, I needed to send that email, and I needed to
Speaker:do that, and I needed to post the content. I needed to ask for the sale."
Speaker:And we're stacking all these things up about why we're not where we wanna be,
Speaker:why we're so far behind, why we're… There's something wrong with us.
Speaker:All of those things.
Speaker:Like, we're looking for all the evidence as to why there's something wrong And
Speaker:those little things don't go away just because we're not looking at them.
Speaker:If you don't have them written down or you're not looking at
Speaker:them, like it's still there.
Speaker:Like mentally, even if you can't logically remember, right?
Speaker:Because that's a different story.
Speaker:You know you have all these things that you should be doing, but when you take the
Speaker:action, we're skipping past the relief.
Speaker:The like, you did it.
Speaker:You took the action, you did the thing.
Speaker:Like celebrate that in the moment
Speaker:And not out of misproportion, right?
Speaker:Like, we're not going on a spending spree 'cause you made a phone call.
Speaker:But we don't need to discount it, especially if you're somebody who is
Speaker:hard on yourself naturally, like, right?
Speaker:Stop discounting the things.
Speaker:Like, we've moved the goalpost, we moved ahead, so, like, you're never getting to
Speaker:the spot that you wanna get to because we keep discounting the things that we did.
Speaker:How do you eat an elephant, right?
Speaker:One bite at a time.
Speaker:Well, you can't… Like, acknowledge the bites.
Speaker:You're making progress.
Speaker:You're doing the things.
Speaker:It might not be big.
Speaker:It might be as simple as looking at your bank account, making a
Speaker:phone call, sending an email.
Speaker:They don't sound like massive things, but especially if you've been putting it
Speaker:off or you don't wanna do it, and then you finally, like, you get to the point,
Speaker:you're ready, you're like, "I've got this.
Speaker:I did it," that's important.
Speaker:The step might be small, but the impact isn't
Speaker:If you are someone that has a hard time counting your own
Speaker:progress, I made something for you.
Speaker:It's a free private podcast called Breaking the Money Cycle.
Speaker:It's got six episodes, and it's gonna show you exactly what's been
Speaker:keeping you stuck and the way out.
Speaker:You can grab your private access to it, aimeecerka.com/moneycycle.
Speaker:That link is also in the show notes as well.
Speaker:So why do we minimize it?
Speaker:Why do we keep moving the goalpost, right?
Speaker:Because we're measuring against where we think we should be.
Speaker:Like, we're still looking at this thing.
Speaker:We're creating all the shoulds, it should've been
Speaker:this, it should've been that.
Speaker:But we can't get to where we wanna be when we keep doing that.
Speaker:Like, it's too big of a jump.
Speaker:When you get into momentum and you're measuring your success against what you
Speaker:did yesterday, like you moved forward, you made improvement yesterday, it's
Speaker:not like zero to 100, it's zero to five.
Speaker:And they talk about the hardest thing to do for a train is to get into momentum.
Speaker:When a train is starting to move, that is the hardest part, right?
Speaker:Getting into momentum, 'cause you have all this weight that
Speaker:you've gotta push forward.
Speaker:The hardest thing to do is build the momentum, and then we're
Speaker:beating ourselves up 'cause we're not going 50 miles an hour yet.
Speaker:We're not ready for that.
Speaker:We have to trust the next step.
Speaker:We have to trust ourselves.
Speaker:We have to stop beating ourselves up is, like, the bigger piece, right?
Speaker:Don't discount the fact that you showed up and you did the thing, and this isn't,
Speaker:like, a participation trophy type thing.
Speaker:Like, we're doing actual things.
Speaker:You're doing the work.
Speaker:It might not feel like enough because of all the meaning that we've entangled
Speaker:on it and all the pressure you put on yourself, and we can talk about that.
Speaker:There are so many layers that we can unpack here.
Speaker:But when you minimize the steps that you are taking, they're not that big
Speaker:of a deal, doesn't really matter, wait until I get real results-
Speaker:You're never gonna feel like you've got real results because there's always
Speaker:gonna be another layer to get to.
Speaker:There's always gonna be another thing, right?
Speaker:You hit the 10K month, and then okay, let's hit 20K month.
Speaker:We're not celebrating where we're at.
Speaker:Or you made $100.
Speaker:Oh, it's not 1,000.
Speaker:I'm not celebrating that.
Speaker:And then we do the same thing.
Speaker:We keep moving the goalpost.
Speaker:When you can anchor in and celebrate what you've done, what you've
Speaker:achieved, what you've received in the small moments, it compounds
Speaker:We need to compound the positive, not compound the fact that we're
Speaker:beating ourselves up because you're not where you thought you could be.
Speaker:You heard the saying, most of us overestimate where we can be
Speaker:in a year, but we underestimate where we'll be in five years?
Speaker:I
Speaker:mean, think about, and we've talked about this in a couple different episodes.
Speaker:I think it was 252,
Speaker:253, and then this last episode, 'cause they were kind of supposed to be together.
Speaker:We had some interruptions that needed to happen, right?
Speaker:Some great episodes.
Speaker:But-
Speaker:There was times where the life that I have is exactly what I was praying for.
Speaker:It was what I wanted.
Speaker:It was the goal.
Speaker:And I have so much of that.
Speaker:And if I don't anchor into the appreciation of all the success that I've
Speaker:created… Sure, I'm not where I wanna be.
Speaker:I have not hit all the things yet.
Speaker:I don't know that any of us have.
Speaker:I think there's always another level to hit.
Speaker:But if we can't acknowledge the steps that we've taken and appreciate them
Speaker:How are we gonna get to where we wanna go?
Speaker:The momentum, even like the quantum shifts that people talk about, like
Speaker:it's not built in this like one moment.
Speaker:It was five years in the making.
Speaker:It just showed up in the one moment.
Speaker:It's the consistent small completions.
Speaker:The woman who's unstoppable with her money is because she keeps moving.
Speaker:It's not perfect, but we keep moving.
Speaker:We know that we're gonna be okay no matter what, 'cause you're unstoppable.
Speaker:Doesn't mean the setbacks don't sh- show up.
Speaker:It just means that you're not stopped by them.
Speaker:So at a minimum, hey, guess what?
Speaker:You showed up today and you listened to this.
