The Psalmist. Psalm 9:18. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 19 of 30 Days of Psalms. This is a double-sided text. On one hand, it’s the certain assurance, that though our case of suffering and need appears overlooked, forgotten today—it will not always be. On the other hand, it also assures us that if we are the ones overlooking the needs of others, our negligence will not pass unnoticed. One day we must face down this negligence, answer for our disregard for the needs of the poor. Our homes, lives, jobs may today be padded with luxury—yet we must one day answer why we enjoyed these comforts while neglecting to care for those in greater need than us. It isn’t that we cannot enjoy the benefits of comfort, but that we must do so as a wise care-taker, considering also the needs of others and how our resources can be leveraged to their benefit, too.
