-:I've been thinking a lot about my need for external validation and whether or not that serves me well.
-:I've been an avid student and learner over the last 10 years.
-:I followed people who have inspired me, read books, attended courses, gained qualifications, and more.
-:I love a certificate, a medal, a reward. I love finishing a project.
-:However, as soon as the task is completed or the badge collected, I hardly take a second to appreciate it. I'm on to the next thing. Today, I reflect.
-:We've been considering the extrinsic motivators for me. Number 1, grades and academic achievements.
-:In educational settings, grades and academic achievements act as extrinsic motivators.
-:We work hard to earn our qualifications and prove our worth.
-:Is it to other people or to ourselves? Number 2, recognition and awards.
-:Public recognition, awards, or certificates do motivate people.
-:The acknowledgment of achievements can be a powerful external motivator for some people.
-:I won a coaching award earlier on this year, and I haven't actually told anyone about it until this very second right now. Number 3, financial rewards. Money is a common extrinsic motivator.
-:Salary, bonuses, and other financial incentives drive individuals to work harder or achieve specific goals. Number 4, promotions and career advancement.
-:The prospect of career advancement or climbing the corporate ladder serves as a strong extrinsic motivator in the workplace.
-:Individuals often strive to achieve success. 4, the associated professional benefits that come with it.
-:Number 5, competition, external competition, whether in sports, business, or any other area of your life, can motivate people to improve their performance.
-:The desire to outperform others and win competitions is always a strong one.
-:I came round to thinking of intrinsic motivation. Number 1, passion for the activity.
-:When an individual has a genuine interest or passion for a particular activity, they are intrinsically motivated to engage in it.
-:The joy and satisfaction comes from the activity itself. Number 2, sense of achievement.
-:Intrinsic motivation can stem from a personal sense of accomplishment and achievement.
-:The feeling of mastering a skill or completing a challenging task can be a powerful internal motivator. Number 3, curiosity and learning.
-:Intrinsic motivation often arises from a natural curiosity and the desire to learn.
-:The process of actually gaining knowledge and understanding can be inherently rewarding. Number 4, autonomy and control.
-:Having a sense of control and autonomy over one's actions can be so motivating.
-:When individuals feel they have the freedom to make choices and decisions, it enhances their motivation.
-:This has been me in working for myself. Number 5, personal growth and development.
-:The pursuit of personal growth, self development, and and self improvement can be intrinsically motivating.
-:People may engage in activities that contribute to their own growth and well-being because of the actual satisfaction it brings.
-:When I think of external motivation, I think of being held accountable.
-:I think of a boss, a mentor, a teacher, a coach asking me how I am getting on with a particular activity.
-:I feel like the tasks are things I should be doing.
-:I need to make time for the tasks.
-:I might be completing the tasks for perhaps their benefit rather than mine.
-:When I consider internal motivation, I think of holding myself accountable.
-:I know I can easily find the happy, easy, joyful flow in my work.
-:I don't struggle to find the time for it.
-:I complete the task or the activity because I actually really want to. Have a think today.
