How do I prepare if marriage equality gets overturned?

In June 2022, we all watched in shock as the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and gutted women’s rights to their bodies and reproductive healthcare

Many of us in the LGBTQ+ community were even more shocked when the concurring opinion from Justice Thomas was released, where he alluded to the court’s need to review and reverse protections for same-sex couples, including marriage and the rights and responsibilities that go along with it.

In addition, with more and more Gen Z and younger Millenials vocalizing that they will be sitting out the 2024 election because of their disappointment with Biden on social issues, it is possible we could see even more momentum in the country to revoke the right for same-sex couples to marry.

It feels as if we’re at the precipice of going backward on this issue as we see countries like Nepal and Estonia legalizing marriage equality in 2023. So, what can same-sex couples in the United States do to protect themselves and their assets to be on the safe side?

You’re listening to Queer Money episode #472. And today, we’re sharing the top 5 documents same-sex couples can and should be using to protect themselves.
