Having the weapons for battle means very little when faith is missing from the fight. Psalm 78 describes the children of Ephraim as armed with bows yet turning back when the battle arrived. Dr. Dave explains that their defeat developed from three spiritual failures: they refused to walk in God’s Word, forgot His works, and ignored His wonders. The first failure remains especially relevant because believers cannot expect spiritual strength while neglecting the very Word God provided to restore and realign their souls. Scripture is not simply information to study; God uses it to redirect our thinking when attitudes, emotions, and fleshly desires pull us elsewhere. Continually believing, learning, and walking in His truth prepares Christians to stand instead of retreating when spiritual battles arrive.

Forgetting what God has already done can quietly weaken confidence in what He is capable of doing today. Dr. Dave challenges believers to remember the practical demonstrations of God’s faithfulness: His provision, comfort, deliverance, answered prayers, and countless moments when He carried them through circumstances that appeared impossible. Forgetting those works means losing sight of expressions of His love and faithfulness. Ephraim went even further by ignoring God’s wonders—the miraculous demonstrations of power that could never have been accomplished through human ability. Dr. Dave remembers being instantly delivered from drugs and the unexpected path God created into radio ministry. Recalling such moments is not living sentimentally in the past; it strengthens present faith by reminding us who God has already proven Himself to be.

An extraordinary confirmation arrived when the devotional selected for that day was titled “Don’t Forget the Miracles,” even though the Psalm 78 teaching had been prepared approximately six weeks earlier. Psalm 77:11 declares the determination to remember the deeds and miracles of the Lord, perfectly reinforcing the warning about Ephraim forgetting God’s works and wonders. Israel had witnessed extraordinary demonstrations of His power throughout Egypt, yet forgetting eventually contributed to defeat. Believers should intentionally remember their own Red Sea moments—the rescues, provisions, healings, comforts, and impossible answers that demonstrate God’s involvement in their lives. Remembering strengthens faith, while forgetfulness creates vulnerability during future battles. Forgetfulness is faith’s thief; memory is fuel. Stay in God’s Word, remember what He has done, and let yesterday’s miracles strengthen today’s trust.
