We're gonna take a little tangent today, but stick with me. I think you'll find it interesting. A lot of people will say things like, I'm bad at technology. I don't understand tech, which is interesting 'cause there was a time when I was younger, when computers were complicated and arcane and weird and you had to type in just the right phrase and if you type in the wrong thing, you could delete the whole hard drive or crash, or make it catch fire or all kinds of crazy stuff.
Now you push a button and you talk to it and you say. Hey, computer, turn on the lights, or look this up for me, or tell me what to do. You talk to it like a person, and yet people think I'm not good at tech. I don't understand it. The difference between someone who is good at technology and someone who is not good at technology is the self.
Conception of someone who is good at technology and someone who's not good at technology. The other day I had an issue with the sponsorships on this very podcast. I was trying to set them up. It wasn't doing what I expected, and I, who perceived myself to be someone who is good at technology said the software is not behaving as the manual says it should.
It's not me. It is the software. And so I went to support and I said, there's a problem with the software. I need your help. And they said, no problem. They reset the right thing, bad, a bing bad a boom. It worked. But someone bad at technology would stop there and say, oh, I'm not good at technology. Let me see if my assistant can handle it.
Let me see if we can figure it out. I'm stuck because I believe I'm good at technology. I just find the answer. But someone who believes they're not good at it, they don't look for it 'cause they don't think they can find it. And this is not just about technology, this is about anything. If you believe that you can achieve your goal, whether it's getting the ads on the podcast or getting your car to run or making a million dollars, anything that comes up in your way.
It's simply an obstacle to get around, but if you believe you are bad at it, if you believe you don't have the inclination or the skills or the gifts or the talents, any obstacle is gonna be the point when you say, Ooh, maybe this is the sign I need to stop. Maybe I should just back up and give, give up here.
Whether you believe you can or you believe you can't, you're gonna be right. Technology is the place to see this most, but we see it. Everywhere.
