Nathan:

23 And Adam said:

“This is now bone of my bones

And flesh of my flesh;

She shall be called Woman,

Because she was taken out of Man.”

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Adam and Moses. Genesis 2:23-24. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 16 of 30 Days to a Better Marriage. Cut the apron strings. Once married, our spouse receives our highest loyalty, our unfaltering commitment. God alone is the single exception to this. Too many marriages have been lost on the rocks of misplaced, or divided loyalty. When there’s a struggle for time, attention or influence between your spouse and any other human being-- family, friend or boss—your spouse must win. Always. When we enter the marriage covenant we are ‘all in’. We have pledged ourselves to fight to the death on one single team—the one made at the marriage altar. You can likely think of exceptional circumstances, but the truth is, yours is probably NOT the exception. Does your spouse feel threatened by some external relationship—with anyone? Stop now. Get your head on straight and fight for the one relationship you vowed to be true to for life. Your mother, father, sibling, best friend—have been permanently ejected from this sacred circle by your wedding vow. Be true to that vow.
