Laura:

Hello and welcome to Who Are You?

2

:

We're a reasonably well done sci-fi watch

cast by a couple of former strangers

3

:

who are now friends and watching

:

4

:

I'm Laura

5

:

Xhafer: I'm fair.

6

:

Laura: and we are tired people today.

7

:

Xhafer: an EP baby for sure.

8

:

so yesterday was a long day,

9

:

Laura: Huh.

10

:

Xhafer: yesterday involved.

11

:

A magic, the gathering

tournament, a birthday party,

12

:

Laura: Oh

13

:

Xhafer: separate things

14

:

Laura: yeah.

15

:

Xhafer: over five hours in the car.

16

:

I think six probably by the time

it was said and done because of the

17

:

snowstorm that we had to drive through.

18

:

Laura: That's a lot of hours.

19

:

Xhafer: yeah, I got home around

1:00 AM which is late for me.

20

:

Listener.

21

:

When we, we will make jokes.

22

:

It's like, oh yeah, you know,

it's a late night record for fair.

23

:

He is so tired.

24

:

It's like, that's 9:30 PM I was awake

at 5:00 AM yesterday and that was

25

:

on, that's just when my body woke up.

26

:

Like it was just, when I get up

today, I woke up or like six 30 ish.

27

:

Looked at the time, said no, and, and

just rolled over and went back to sleep.

28

:

'cause sometimes I could do that.

29

:

It just, I did not sleep well.

30

:

I did not sleep enough, and I'm

paying for it now at:

31

:

Laura: Yeah.

32

:

Yeah.

33

:

Xhafer: Today was not

particularly stressful or long.

34

:

I spent lots of time working on the

library that I've been building in

35

:

my breezeway, which, when was the

last time we talked about that?

36

:

Have we, I don't even know if

we've talked about that on pod,

37

:

but I've been redoing that room

for several months at this point.

38

:

Laura: yeah.

39

:

I don't know if we've talked about it on

pod, but we individuals have spoken of it.

40

:

Yes.

41

:

Xhafer: Um, in the last two

weeks, I've installed flooring,

42

:

put up the six book cases.

43

:

anchored them to the walls and the, you

know, like did everything, including

44

:

anchoring them into a brick wall on

one of the walls, which is a pain.

45

:

Laura: Yeah.

46

:

Xhafer: you know, and then spaced

them out, anchored them to each

47

:

other so that it's one solid thing.

48

:

Now put in some two by fours for spacing.

49

:

Laura: Uhhuh.

50

:

Xhafer: and then today I went through

and filled every gap with putty.

51

:

So it's like their IKEA bookshelves,

but it's not gonna look like

52

:

IKEA bookshelves when it's done.

53

:

Laura: Okay.

54

:

I was about to ask about bookshelves.

55

:

Xhafer: yeah, they have got

all the holes for like, where

56

:

the different shelves can go.

57

:

I am, I have filled all of those in

that do not have shelves in them with,

58

:

Laura: so you didn't, not

moving 'em again, but yeah.

59

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

60

:

and then also, like, you know,

I put some, some of those have

61

:

screws running through them

62

:

Laura: Uhhuh.

63

:

Xhafer: that I had to like tap out a

little bit of hole for a screw head

64

:

for, and then sink that in and then fill

that in with putty or areas where the.

65

:

Because they've got

extensions on them too.

66

:

So there's areas where there's

was the, what was the top before.

67

:

And because some of these are

repurposed, some of them have like

68

:

holes from screws that were there, or

just the general assembly stuff that's

69

:

showing because it's a top of Ikea

bookcase, they just put whatever there.

70

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

71

:

Xhafer: so it's been work.

72

:

Tomorrow I get to sand and then I get to

wash them down, and then I get to caulk

73

:

or then I'll do molding and put a bunch

of molding in to so that it really doesn't

74

:

look like it's an IKEA bookcase anymore.

75

:

And then I'll do caulking

because I'm probably gonna have

76

:

to caulk some of the molding.

77

:

And then also I'm gonna, the shelves

sit in a way where they, like,

78

:

there's visible edges and stuff.

79

:

So before I paint it, I'm gonna

caulk every edge of every shelf

80

:

so that it all is seamless

81

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

82

:

Xhafer: one solid looking piece thing.

83

:

Then I'll prime it and then I'll paint it

84

:

Laura: Cool.

85

:

Xhafer: and then I'll

86

:

Laura: It's a lot of work though.

87

:

Xhafer: felt things on every shelf

so that way it's nice and soft

88

:

for books and good to books and

89

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

90

:

Xhafer: not that that matters

too much, but it'll be nice.

91

:

And then,

92

:

Laura: Yeah.

93

:

Xhafer: then we can start unpacking the

books and organizing the books because

94

:

we've decided, we've talked about all

the books in the house for the most part

95

:

are in boxes in the basement right now.

96

:

Laura: Yeah.

97

:

Xhafer: So Beth and I have been discussing

and it's like, okay, well nonfiction will

98

:

go on these ones and we're gonna organize

it by Dewey Decimal, and then we're gonna

99

:

do genres and getting little signs made

that snap onto the shelves and stuff.

100

:

Laura: Yeah.

101

:

Xhafer: Yeah, it'll be

102

:

Laura: That's great.

103

:

Xhafer: Yeah, it was just keeping busy.

104

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

105

:

Xhafer: So much stuff.

106

:

I need to stop doing stuff.

107

:

Laura: we took a hike

today, three mile hike,

108

:

Xhafer: We had discussed

briefly before you went on it.

109

:

How'd it go?

110

:

Laura: You know, as good as

you could expect, a three mile

111

:

hike with a toddler to go.

112

:

And I mean that like.

113

:

Very kindly.

114

:

She wasn't a problem on the hike.

115

:

Bless her heart.

116

:

But you know, when you're two

years old and you're on a three

117

:

mile hike, at some points your

little legs are just gonna give up.

118

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

119

:

Laura: So there was probably, I don't

know, half a mile to a mile of hike

120

:

that mommy got to carry 30 extra

pounds, but really not that bad.

121

:

All things considering like

122

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

123

:

Laura: I would've thought it

would've been more like two miles.

124

:

So

125

:

she did great.

126

:

We found a little bird's nest on

the trail that she brought home.

127

:

She was so excited about it.

128

:

Long devoid of any birds.

129

:

You know, it had fallen out of a tree

and there were no signs of any bird life.

130

:

So that's good.

131

:

You don't want the bird's nest that

has the baby birds in it or something.

132

:

Xhafer: Yeah, I could

see that being a problem.

133

:

Laura: she had a great little

time and it's not super cold here.

134

:

It was in the fifties today,

so not a bad day for a hike.

135

:

I heard you guys had a couple of

snow storms and uh, we haven't had a

136

:

single snow yet this winter season.

137

:

Xhafer: There's been a lot of snow.

138

:

Laura: Yeah,

139

:

Xhafer: so done with it, and I

know that we're not even close

140

:

to finished is the worst thing.

141

:

Laura: that's so wild to me.

142

:

I'm thinking we're actually gonna have

a winter without any snow possibly.

143

:

Xhafer: Yeah, that's the, that's

how it's gonna end up going.

144

:

I think it's a very weird year where

it's gonna be a very, the winter's

145

:

gonna be very harsh in certain

places and non-existent in others.

146

:

Laura: Yeah, it makes me sad.

147

:

I'd like to have just a, just a

taste, just a little winter, sir.

148

:

Please.

149

:

May I have a little winter?

150

:

Xhafer: I mean, feel free take a sample.

151

:

Come on up.

152

:

You know, you can have some of ours

153

:

Laura: Yeah, if I could just

experience a day in the life

154

:

that, that was your segue affair.

155

:

Xhafer: Oh yeah, that's

the name of the episode.

156

:

Shit,

157

:

Laura: Gosh, you really

aren't with it today, are you?

158

:

Xhafer: I'm not, I'm starting

the CBDT, but it feels like

159

:

I've been on it for a minute.

160

:

So yeah, it's a Battlestar

Galactica season three

161

:

episode, 15 a day in the Life.

162

:

We open on Adama daydreaming.

163

:

I don't wanna call this like,

Baltar's got his like mind

164

:

palace thing that he retreats to.

165

:

This doesn't have that vibe.

166

:

Laura: No, I mean, I, I did have a great

chuckle at the beginning here when I

167

:

was like, oh is Adama doing the Gaas?

168

:

Is he doing a Gaas talking

to his mind person?

169

:

We're gonna have this I'm really glad

that anybody else doing the Gaas.

170

:

'cause we get, you know, Caprica

six does the gaas a little

171

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

172

:

Laura: Now we're getting

this, it's very like, limited.

173

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

174

:

Laura: But it's nice to have a new

mind person and a new mind setting.

175

:

That's kind of fun.

176

:

Xhafer: yeah.

177

:

It's

178

:

uh,

179

:

Laura: like Adama's old

house maybe on Caprica.

180

:

Xhafer: yeah, I, we, I

assume that's where this is.

181

:

he's there with his, his ex-wife.

182

:

Carol Ann,

183

:

Laura: Yeah.

184

:

Xhafer: Who's our new uh, yeah,

Claude Ann, I guess, I don't know.

185

:

Laura: Yeah.

186

:

Xhafer: really in ai, but yeah.

187

:

Laura: Yeah, no, that, that one

will work if we've gotta make

188

:

everybody's mind person an AI name.

189

:

Sure.

190

:

I like it.

191

:

Do we get any more mind people?

192

:

Can you tell me that?

193

:

Xhafer: Um, I won't, I mean, sorry.

194

:

I said maybe.

195

:

There we are.

196

:

Laura: Wonderful.

197

:

Xhafer: the bit once.

198

:

I'll tune that for next time.

199

:

Laura: Yeah, I, I think we could

reasonably get one other mind person.

200

:

Maybe if we start to get too many mind

people, it's gonna overuse the bit.

201

:

Right.

202

:

Xhafer: I think there's one more

but I'm not a hundred percent.

203

:

'cause it's

204

:

Laura: Okay.

205

:

Xhafer: a while.

206

:

I think we get one mind person maybe

even before the end of the season.

207

:

If it's the thing I'm thinking

about then it'd be soon-ish.

208

:

Laura: I would not be surprised, and

I don't think this is necessarily it,

209

:

but it would be interesting if Ellen

showed up as a mind person for Ty.

210

:

Yeah.

211

:

Xhafer: It'd be great to just like

bring the at actress back somehow.

212

:

Laura: yes.

213

:

Just have her like one more

214

:

Xhafer: in somehow.

215

:

Yeah.

216

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

217

:

Xhafer: that'd be nice.

218

:

Laura: Yeah.

219

:

Xhafer: where were we?

220

:

Oh,

221

:

Laura: Oh yeah.

222

:

We're just talking about Carol Ann Claud.

223

:

Ann,

224

:

Xhafer: Claud Ann.

225

:

Yeah.

226

:

So, She's being rude.

227

:

Ty wakes Adama up here and

wishes him a happy anniversary.

228

:

This is rude as fuck too.

229

:

Laura: I, I guess Ty's been having to

put up with this day for a long time.

230

:

Right.

231

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

232

:

Laura: Because they've worked together

a while is the impression we've gotten.

233

:

They've worked together and then they

came back and worked together and

234

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

235

:

Laura: So Ty's got his

finger on that pulse.

236

:

Still weird.

237

:

Would be weirder if it

was reversed, I think.

238

:

Xhafer: Yes.

239

:

Tyrell and Callie have surprise work

and Callie isn't happy about it.

240

:

Laura: Yeah, yeah.

241

:

They've got crying baby.

242

:

They've got morning watch and it's,

it's not even like emergency, emergency,

243

:

just some people called in sick.

244

:

So.

245

:

We've gotta do the things that they

were supposed to do today because

246

:

everything is relatively urgent.

247

:

And uh, yeah, we've got to

get Nikki off to daycare and

248

:

try to keep this ship running.

249

:

Xhafer: Yep.

250

:

Uh, Galen's gonna take the baby to

daycare while Ty catches Adam dama

251

:

up on the duty roster for the day.

252

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

253

:

Got a list of broken shit too.

254

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

255

:

Ty offers to give him like the morning,

like I'll take first shift, you know,

256

:

like it's, it's your anniversary thing.

257

:

I know how you get today.

258

:

And I'm sure he's done this every

year and every year Adama has said no.

259

:

Laura: Yeah, definitely.

260

:

Xhafer: it's like, it, it takes it

from Ty being an asshole and waking

261

:

him up to Ty knowing what day this is.

262

:

Having it marked on his calendar and

having been prepping for it for a week.

263

:

Laura: Exactly.

264

:

Yeah.

265

:

And I think he's, I mean, he's gotta be

not the only person on the ship that kind

266

:

of knows that he gets weird on this day.

267

:

Like,

268

:

do you think GAA has like a

slack where he's warning people,

269

:

heads up.

270

:

Xhafer: It's gonna be

bad day for Papa Dama

271

:

Laura: Stay outta the way,

272

:

Xhafer: why?

273

:

Laura: keep your head down.

274

:

Like,

275

:

Xhafer: I think Starbuck knows.

276

:

Laura: oh yeah, surely, right?

277

:

Xhafer: So like, I mean part of this,

the whole thing is like Starbuck is more

278

:

of a daughter to him than Lee is a son.

279

:

But at, at the start of the series,

because Lee has estranged himself

280

:

from his father for so long that

it would make sense for Lee to have

281

:

not been around for many of this

and to not have noticed or cared.

282

:

he's also self-absorbed as fuck.

283

:

But when Starbuck is spending lots

of her bonding time with Adama,

284

:

'cause they're not doing anything

'cause there's no war to fight.

285

:

She thousand percent knows what day it is.

286

:

Laura: Yeah.

287

:

Yeah.

288

:

And Zach may have like told all about it.

289

:

'cause we know that like Lee and Adama

don't really talk about like anything,

290

:

but we don't know anything about Zach.

291

:

Zach could have been a much more

open person and been like, yeah,

292

:

that whole thing sucked ass.

293

:

Xhafer: Mm.

294

:

Laura: And Dad always gets really

weird on their anniversary.

295

:

I kind of hope that's who Zach was.

296

:

I kind of hope Zach was

like the intuitive, like.

297

:

Sharer,

298

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

299

:

Someone in this family

fucking needs to be.

300

:

Laura: and of course they

would be the one to get fridged

301

:

before the show even starts.

302

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

303

:

Adam and Claud Ann are talking

in his brain as private Jaffe

304

:

brings him a cup of coffee.

305

:

Tyrell and Cali grab Celick to

go repair an airlock that's been

306

:

busted for like a year, they say,

307

:

Laura: yeah.

308

:

Airlock 12.

309

:

Mm-hmm.

310

:

Xhafer: they also say new Caprica a

couple times, so I don't know which it is.

311

:

It wouldn't have been if it was,

here's the thing is if it was damaged

312

:

before new Caprica, then it's been

like two years since it's been damaged.

313

:

Laura: Uhhuh.

314

:

Uhhuh.

315

:

Xhafer: If it was damaged after new

Caprica, it's been like maybe six months.

316

:

Laura: Yeah.

317

:

I would really like a clearer timeline

on how long it's been, because let me.

318

:

Just point out in case listeners are

waiting for me to point it out, this

319

:

baby, baby Nikki does not appear to

be old enough for what he should be.

320

:

Xhafer: Because this baby was

born like months into New Africa.

321

:

Right.

322

:

Laura: Right?

323

:

Xhafer: So if it's been a year,

this baby should be two or at the

324

:

very least, like one and a half.

325

:

Laura: Yeah.

326

:

I think he's gotta be at

least one or one and a half.

327

:

And this, the baby that they have

for this does not look old enough to

328

:

me and I, I'm no expert on babies.

329

:

I've only had two and it

was kind of far apart.

330

:

And like that first year and a

half for me was like overwhelming.

331

:

But I was like, this baby

doesn't seem old enough.

332

:

Xhafer: we just do we just not get

dates for the rest of the show?

333

:

Laura: I don't know.

334

:

Xhafer: I'm looking right now.

335

:

Yeah, we just don't get dates anymore.

336

:

Laura: Yeah.

337

:

Xhafer: all semblance of time

on how much time has passed.

338

:

So maybe it's been a year and

the baby is super young looking.

339

:

Laura: Yeah.

340

:

I, I don't know.

341

:

I don't, Hmm.

342

:

I feel like it hasn't been a

year since we left New Caprica.

343

:

Xhafer: I, I would agree.

344

:

Laura: Okay.

345

:

But it's been a minute.

346

:

Xhafer: so okay, well hold up.

347

:

We've got, so, okay.

348

:

They get off of New Caprica on day 7 98.

349

:

The last date we have

was five episodes ago,

350

:

Laura: Okay.

351

:

Xhafer: and we got a date in

Hero and Unfinished Business,

352

:

which was the episode after,

353

:

which takes us to nine 30.

354

:

So that's 150 days after, and we are

another six or seven episodes past that.

355

:

So it might be close to a year.

356

:

I can't believe we don't get

one in a couple of episodes.

357

:

Laura: 150 days after leaving New

Caprica, that's almost six months,

358

:

180 days, famously six months, right?

359

:

Xhafer: You would think with them talking

about the trial stuff with that coming up,

360

:

that they would put a timeframe on that.

361

:

How long it's been?

362

:

Hmm.

363

:

Laura: I

364

:

don't

365

:

Xhafer: guess we'll see when we get there.

366

:

Laura: I didn't feel like this baby actor

was old enough, but maybe, maybe that's

367

:

the problem is like the appropriate age

is actually very hard to have a child

368

:

be doing what you need them to do.

369

:

Xhafer: That would check out.

370

:

Laura: Two, famously don't wanna

do what you want them to do.

371

:

It's a big deal.

372

:

Yeah.

373

:

Callie's pretty upset.

374

:

He spaghetti in the scene that Tiro is

trying to like, oh, you know, it's fine.

375

:

He didn't even cry when I dropped him off.

376

:

And she's like, he didn't, what?

377

:

Now

378

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

379

:

Laura: he's, he's starting to like

daycare more than he likes his parents.

380

:

What?

381

:

Xhafer: Uh Oh.

382

:

Laura: And it's not that guys, like,

when your kid doesn't cry at daycare,

383

:

like it's not 'cause they don't love you.

384

:

It's not 'cause they don't miss you.

385

:

It's 'cause babies really like routines

386

:

Xhafer: Mm,

387

:

Laura: and so when you start dropping

'em off at daycare and they get into

388

:

the habit of it, it's not that they

like, like daycare more than you.

389

:

It's, they're like, ah,

I remember the thing.

390

:

Xhafer: mm-hmm.

391

:

Laura: It's not bad.

392

:

Yeah.

393

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

394

:

Just means they had a good time.

395

:

Right.

396

:

They're just not they're not

terrified of the people at daycare.

397

:

This is a win.

398

:

Laura: Yeah.

399

:

And if they cry when you pick them up.

400

:

It doesn't mean they're upset

that you're picking them up.

401

:

It means they're seeing their safe person.

402

:

And any bad feelings they've had today

come up because they're like, ah, I

403

:

can give these to the safe person.

404

:

Xhafer: Oh,

405

:

Laura: It's

406

:

Xhafer: that's nice.

407

:

That's a great way to think about it.

408

:

Yeah.

409

:

Laura: it's a actual facts thing, so

410

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

411

:

Laura: it's all right.

412

:

We're all, we're all doing okay, guys.

413

:

Xhafer: I mean the baby,

the world right now, I've

414

:

got too much to say.

415

:

But

416

:

Laura: The baby and your parenting, you're

doing a, you're doing a good job, friend.

417

:

Yeah.

418

:

But they're having this like very

personal conversation with Celick.

419

:

Xhafer: like I think, I don't know if we

saw Celick do it or if it just was the

420

:

audio cue, but I think she mutes the room.

421

:

Laura: Yeah, she's definitely like, uh,

422

:

Xhafer: I don't need this.

423

:

Laura: I don't wanna be here right now.

424

:

Xhafer: yeah, KA is just like,

everything fucking sucks and

425

:

there's no way it could get worse.

426

:

And then the airlock closes on them.

427

:

Laura: Yeah, yeah.

428

:

Kelly's mad.

429

:

She specifically says like, I don't

need to be here to hold your tool bag,

430

:

basically.

431

:

and I believe I already said this, chief

Tyrell, that your parents, now, I think

432

:

I said this back on the algae planet,

433

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

434

:

Laura: should not be on

the same fucking jobs.

435

:

Xhafer: Right.

436

:

Military operation.

437

:

And, and Kelly goes on about

this at the end of the episode

438

:

too, and it's looking bad.

439

:

Just like we've seen what

happens to these kids.

440

:

No, it can't go to like

two active military people.

441

:

Like, we'll talk about

it when we get there.

442

:

Um,

443

:

Laura: I wanna say, I've

already said this, I just

444

:

need the listener to remember.

445

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

446

:

Laura: So, uh, we gotta

patch some shit to theme.

447

:

Xhafer: There's some small leak

somewhere, and if they fix it,

448

:

the room will open up again.

449

:

Laura: Yeah, no problem.

450

:

No big

451

:

Xhafer: What happens when this happens

and there's no one in there to fix it?

452

:

Laura: Hmm.

453

:

Xhafer: You just never get

to open that room again.

454

:

Just closed for forever.

455

:

I mean, closed for forever is probably

better than some alternatives,

456

:

Laura: It's true.

457

:

Yeah.

458

:

True.

459

:

Xhafer: and then, I mean, they, they

give us some lip service in towards

460

:

the end of the episode about like

why they can't do certain things.

461

:

That explains why it's like this.

462

:

But when this first happens, I was just

incredulous about how bad this design is.

463

:

Laura: Yeah.

464

:

There needs to be a way to like, okay,

maybe you gotta make sure you put your

465

:

suits on and shit before you go in there,

466

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

467

:

Laura: but you gotta be able

to get this door open again

468

:

to go fix the thing somehow.

469

:

You shouldn't have to come in from

the outside, is what I'm saying.

470

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

471

:

And it's just like, oh, well what if

you need a different tool or something?

472

:

Like, there's so many situations where

this is just very bad idea, but also I

473

:

think no one's supposed to be in there

and it sounds like there's a couple

474

:

ways for them to get out that they talk

about towards the end of the episode.

475

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

476

:

Xhafer: Anyways chief finds the

leak to theme survivor count 41,398.

477

:

We are down three, which is the boy

king and two other Sagittarians.

478

:

Laura: Yeah, there was definitely an

old man and believably a another one.

479

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

480

:

Even the wikis all like probably

more and there's probably some birth

481

:

we didn't see to offset it, but

482

:

three's the

483

:

Laura: seemed like more people

should have died, but yeah.

484

:

Also a lot of birds happening.

485

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

486

:

we get back to Adama's Dream

wife being fucking rude to him.

487

:

Laura: Yeah.

488

:

He had a very nice pond though.

489

:

He's like out in his backyard at first.

490

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

491

:

Laura: Nice pond back there.

492

:

But Claud Dan knows about

his feelings for Rosalyn

493

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

494

:

Pokes that bear a little.

495

:

Laura: yeah.

496

:

Xhafer: And she's coming over because

she's going stir crazy on Capital One.

497

:

Adama says that the, like the long

range ships, the ones that would be

498

:

in space for, for years at a time,

call it OBE, overcome by events.

499

:

Laura: Uhhuh

500

:

Xhafer: I love this.

501

:

I have that feeling a lot.

502

:

Laura: a lot lately.

503

:

Xhafer: A lot, much more lately

than I would say this last year.

504

:

It's been bad.

505

:

The four years before that it was

not as bad, but the four years

506

:

before that, it was quite bad.

507

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

508

:

Xhafer: Um huh.

509

:

I wonder if there's anything that, that

lines up with that kind of a pattern.

510

:

Laura: Yeah.

511

:

No idea.

512

:

Search me.

513

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

514

:

I don't know.

515

:

Anyways

516

:

Laura: They gotta talk about Ballar.

517

:

So that's like her excuse to be over here.

518

:

It's like, well you still

got that guy I hate.

519

:

Xhafer: yeah.

520

:

We, we, you, you didn't airlock 'em.

521

:

I know I asked you not to,

but just, just checking.

522

:

Laura: Yeah.

523

:

Yeah.

524

:

She says that they've been talking to

the Caprica six and she seems to think

525

:

that the CYS would not take him back.

526

:

Xhafer: Yeah, they're not interested.

527

:

I mean, they offered him there

towards the end anyways, so fuck it.

528

:

Laura: Yeah.

529

:

And she's got a little bit of

like a legal puzzle on her hands.

530

:

So yeah, we're gonna give him

a trial, but like, which law

531

:

system are we supposed to use

532

:

Xhafer: There's so many.

533

:

Yeah.

534

:

Laura: and we don't know anything

about law and there's not like

535

:

a lot of lawyers hanging around.

536

:

So she wants to do what all good

politicians wanna do, and when faced with

537

:

the unknown she's gonna form a committee

538

:

to figure out the law system.

539

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

540

:

Laura: And she thinks that her chairman

of that committee should be Lee Dona.

541

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

542

:

We're gonna put Lee in charge

because he's a standup guy.

543

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

544

:

Xhafer: the difference between right

and wrong and we can trust him and not

545

:

because of his experience with the law.

546

:

Laura: Well, so Adama says that Lee

has never shown an interest in law.

547

:

And I looked at Aaron and I

was like, except for all the

548

:

times in the show when he has,

549

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

550

:

Laura: because, you know, he, he was

very committed to like the rule of

551

:

the law at the beginning of the show.

552

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

553

:

Laura: Especially when we had like

the episodes with the prisoners on the

554

:

Astral Queen and like figuring out.

555

:

Stuff about that.

556

:

And then black market, he's like, this

thing's operating outside the law, but

557

:

like, he's making economy work, and

it like tore him up a bit, I guess.

558

:

So I was like, Adama, what

show have you been watching?

559

:

Xhafer: The nepotism show.

560

:

Laura: Yeah, yeah,

561

:

Xhafer: Oh, well put my

son in charge of the thing.

562

:

He's good at everything,

563

:

Laura: yeah.

564

:

No, I mean, he, he, Adama seems

against it at this moment.

565

:

He's like, I don't think

this is a good idea.

566

:

Xhafer: He even lies directly to

Rosalyn and is like, Lee's never shown

567

:

any interest in the law because in

the next scene he's talking to Lee

568

:

and is all like, oh yeah, I remember

when he used to go sneak off to

569

:

your grandpa's study and read his

570

:

Laura: true.

571

:

Yeah.

572

:

Mm-hmm.

573

:

Xhafer: It's like you could have

just not said anything, bill.

574

:

You're like, oh, Lee.

575

:

Yeah.

576

:

He might have picked some stuff

up from grandpa, but I don't know.

577

:

He was a little kid.

578

:

Acceptable way to say no, but also

like not an outright lie, which

579

:

Laura: And also he's Lee's gotta

be like mid twenties, right?

580

:

Like

581

:

Xhafer: sure.

582

:

Laura: if he picked anything up about like

actual facts of law from his grandfather,

583

:

it would've been the most basic of basics.

584

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

585

:

Laura: No nuance in that.

586

:

Like yeah, because like real lawyers

are still learning to be a lawyer

587

:

at 25 ish, you know, most of them.

588

:

But Rosalyn's gonna stay on board for a

minute 'cause she wants to go to the gym.

589

:

Xhafer: yeah, yeah.

590

:

She's gonna go hit the gym.

591

:

Good for her?

592

:

Laura: If you need me,

Adama, I'll be in the gym.

593

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

594

:

Laura: In my sports bra.

595

:

Maybe I'll do some boxing with Lee.

596

:

No, no, no.

597

:

Rosalyn deserves to box with Hilo.

598

:

I think that's what she

599

:

Xhafer: Mm.

600

:

Yeah.

601

:

Laura: She deserves

the most of the jimbos.

602

:

Xhafer: Teal tries to

flex tape the leak here.

603

:

Over in the pilot's briefing room,

Hilo and hotdog have a secret handshake

604

:

that is then ruined by hotdog, talking

about the giant rash on his junk.

605

:

Laura: Weird rash Jew.

606

:

Xhafer: What the fuck is this scene?

607

:

Laura: Hysterical is what this scene is.

608

:

Xhafer: yeah, for sure.

609

:

Laura: It's made even better

when you know that hot dog is

610

:

Edward James, almost his son.

611

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

612

:

Laura: It's like, good.

613

:

I want this to, it would be so fun if this

was like a running thread, for hotdog's

614

:

character where he's talking about Yeah.

615

:

Like the next time that we see

him, he just makes an offhand

616

:

remark about seeing Doc Connell

for some antibiotics or something.

617

:

Oh man, that would be fun for me.

618

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

619

:

Laura: Yeah, but uh,

everybody's a twitcher about 49.

620

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

621

:

Four nine.

622

:

Four nine.

623

:

That's the thing, right?

624

:

I don't know kids.

625

:

Ah, damn it.

626

:

I'm old.

627

:

Um, Lee yells at all the pilots

for constantly updating the days

628

:

since last cylon incident sign

they put in as a joke during 33.

629

:

well, Claude Ann notes that he's like

both of them, except in this moment.

630

:

He's just like his dad.

631

:

Laura: Yeah, we don't know

anything about Claud Dan to

632

:

know if he was being like her.

633

:

Really?

634

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

635

:

Laura: Oh, is that just, is

that just his married persona?

636

:

It's like, like

637

:

her might be, I mean, we don't really

know, but he's not a great husband.

638

:

Xhafer: no.

639

:

Laura: But he does a very Adam

ish speech about people dying when

640

:

they get complacent and it turns

out it's 'cause he plagiarized.

641

:

I.

642

:

Xhafer: Yep.

643

:

Starbucks calls him on it and he's

just like, steal it from the best

644

:

Laura: I mean, don't reinvent the wheel.

645

:

Like if it's acceptable to copy

and paste in this moment, like,

646

:

save yourself some energy, man.

647

:

Xhafer: for sure.

648

:

Claud Ann reminds Adama to tell his

son that he loves him occasionally.

649

:

Laura: Not gonna do that.

650

:

Xhafer: Then this is when Adama

walks in to talk to Lee about

651

:

helping organize the trial.

652

:

It's just like, yeah.

653

:

I'm very busy, dad.

654

:

Sorry.

655

:

I have a job that already on a

slow week is 24 7, so I don't know

656

:

that I'm gonna have time for this.

657

:

It seems vaguely interesting, but I

don't think I'm gonna have time for it.

658

:

Laura: Yeah.

659

:

Well, he goes so far as to be

like, if I hadn't gone to the

660

:

military, I would've been a lawyer

661

:

and.

662

:

That does seem to be

something Adama did not know.

663

:

Like a little bit surprised

about that, but yeah.

664

:

I, I thought we were gonna get a, just

a, an echo of when Rosalyn asked Lee to

665

:

do a special thing the first time back.

666

:

Was that in season one?

667

:

Xhafer: Yeah, when he was the liaison,

668

:

Laura: Yeah.

669

:

He was her liaison to the military.

670

:

Right.

671

:

To try to get them all on

the same page, and eventually

672

:

they just did that anyway, so.

673

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

674

:

cix tests, the flex tape, and

now it's got a hole in it,

675

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

676

:

Xhafer: the leak is getting progressively

worse because of the attempted patch.

677

:

Laura: Yeah, it just like blows

an immediate hole and it's

678

:

somehow bigger than it was before.

679

:

Xhafer: And at this point, someone

finally tells Adama, and it starts

680

:

to get real cold on that airlock,

which is not what would happen.

681

:

You would just mostly, well with

its proximity to the hole, maybe.

682

:

I don't know.

683

:

Laura: Yeah, I couldn't say.

684

:

Xhafer: so the whole point of like

temperature is, it's a property of matter.

685

:

Vacuum of space is not matter less

completely, but effectively matter less.

686

:

Which means that you don't have

anything cold to touch you to

687

:

transfer the temperature to,

688

:

Laura: Mm-hmm.

689

:

Xhafer: so you don't

freeze to death in space.

690

:

You would eventually, but it take a

long time for random space particles

691

:

hitting you to transfer the temperature

off of your body for you to freeze.

692

:

Laura: You'll suffocate before that.

693

:

Yeah,

694

:

Xhafer: yeah, so long before that.

695

:

But yeah, I mean, I don't know,

maybe there's gas things or something

696

:

with the proximity of the ship

to the hole and maybe they keep

697

:

a little bubble of stuff around.

698

:

I don't know.

699

:

Laura: Also, it, we need a, like a

visual dramatic cue that things are

700

:

Xhafer: It's gotta be blue

and ice in their hair.

701

:

Laura: Yeah.

702

:

Yeah.

703

:

That helps.

704

:

Xhafer: man, you probably don't even know.

705

:

You've never lived in the north.

706

:

Right,

707

:

Laura: No, Nope.

708

:

Xhafer: so you didn't even know about

like getting out of the shower and

709

:

going to work too early in your hair.

710

:

Freezing.

711

:

Laura: Oh.

712

:

I suspect that if I get to do that,

my hair will be frozen because like

713

:

my hair does not dry very fast.

714

:

It's too thick.

715

:

Xhafer: same.

716

:

Yeah.

717

:

No, I've got a mop up top and so

it just takes forever to dry and it

718

:

doesn't happen to me now because I'm

just walking to my car and driving.

719

:

But when I used to like be in

grade school and walking to school,

720

:

a hundred percent would happen.

721

:

Oh yeah.

722

:

Oh Yeah.

723

:

I'd have little ice chunks

in my hair all the time.

724

:

Yeah.

725

:

Laura: I could see that happening

to me if I had lived up there,

726

:

but, we're getting pretty cold.

727

:

Tiara asks Adama, please.

728

:

Daddy, can you get the doors open?

729

:

Xhafer: Yeah, Lee, this is

when Lee pays lip service.

730

:

He's like, the manual overrides broke.

731

:

All the redundancies are broke.

732

:

Every backup is broke.

733

:

Laura: Yeah.

734

:

Right before Lee lists off all the

broke shit, they even give us a shot

735

:

of how terrible Galactica looks to

remind us like everything's broke.

736

:

Xhafer: guys, it's bad.

737

:

They are fucked.

738

:

They have 30 minutes of air.

739

:

It's gonna take an hour

to cut open the doors.

740

:

Although I guess you wouldn't need

to cut open the doors all the way.

741

:

You'd need to cut open the

doors enough to get air in, but

742

:

whatever, you know, I get it.

743

:

Um,

744

:

Laura: yeah.

745

:

Xhafer: that, that's just

prolonging at that point, but still.

746

:

Laura: I feel like anytime you go do

maintenance in an airlock, it should

747

:

just be standard protocol to carry

748

:

Xhafer: EVA suits.

749

:

Yeah, you should be in EVA, in

an EVA suit if you're working

750

:

on the inside of an airlock.

751

:

Laura: Yeah,

752

:

Xhafer: The whole, the whole

753

:

point is it's the room that

754

:

opens

755

:

Laura: Yeah.

756

:

Xhafer: and you're like, it's active war.

757

:

You don't know that the silences won't

show up and shoot that door open.

758

:

Laura: right.

759

:

Xhafer: Fucking come on.

760

:

Laura: just, just have

'em ready at, at any time.

761

:

You're mainten these, these things.

762

:

That's all I'm asking.

763

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

764

:

They talk about other stuff.

765

:

They could try and blow out the glass

from the, like, observation room where

766

:

Cix was hanging out, but the blast

to blow up that glass would have to

767

:

be so big that it would definitively

vaporize Cali and Tyro on the inside.

768

:

Laura: Which makes sense.

769

:

Like your observation glass in your

airlock should be extremely good, right?

770

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

771

:

Hundo.

772

:

Yeah.

773

:

I want that shit to be the most

bombproof place in the fucking building.

774

:

Yes.

775

:

Laura: Yeah.

776

:

Xhafer: It's that then

the indoor shooting range.

777

:

Laura: yeah, those two places

better be fucking good.

778

:

Xhafer: So they're like, okay, well

the only option, you know, if no one's

779

:

gonna answer the back door, then I

guess we gotta try the front, so.

780

:

Laura: But we've got Lee and Athena

and on this, so it's gonna be okay.

781

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

782

:

Yeah.

783

:

They, they threw out everyone

who is speaking lines, so that's

784

:

how you know it's gonna be okay.

785

:

No randos for this to go terribly with.

786

:

Laura: Right, right.

787

:

Xhafer: Tiro grabs the emergency

mass and put Callie's on first.

788

:

Even though everyone tells you

you're supposed to put yours on

789

:

first before you help other people.

790

:

Laura: True, true.

791

:

You can't be of any help if

your brain ain't working.

792

:

Right.

793

:

So put that mask on.

794

:

He's also trying to

stuff a rag in the hole.

795

:

Xhafer: just like anything,

796

:

Laura: Like, yeah, I, I get it, man.

797

:

He didn't have any more flex tape.

798

:

Like we only brought one flex tape.

799

:

Xhafer: I guess.

800

:

I bring the roll, I keep a

roll of that shit around.

801

:

That

802

:

Laura: Yeah.

803

:

I have not used the flex tape,

804

:

Xhafer: That's a good sign.

805

:

If you haven't had to use the

flex tape, it's a good thing, but.

806

:

I've had some shit where it's

felt like there's a leak.

807

:

Guess I'm flex taping it

and figuring it out after.

808

:

Laura: yeah, the, the look on your

face is a believer though, so.

809

:

Xhafer: Oh yeah.

810

:

That shit's fantastic.

811

:

I used it to repair gutters once.

812

:

Yeah.

813

:

Laura: that's fun.

814

:

Xhafer: It wasn't anyways, atomic

gives them the plan and uh, Kelly

815

:

gives the dad role the name of a CVI

family to take Nikki to if needed.

816

:

Laura: Yeah.

817

:

It's like his little friend

at daycare's parents.

818

:

I was like, oh, that's so sad.

819

:

Xhafer: yeah.

820

:

Yeah.

821

:

That's real sad.

822

:

Laura: you know, I famously, I

do not enjoy Callie's character.

823

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

824

:

Laura: I just don't, I don't know

what my deal is, but I don't like her.

825

:

Xhafer: Yeah, you're

826

:

Laura: but that part I was like,

oh, yeah, maybe I'm just so biased

827

:

against the actress that I'm just like,

can't enjoy this character at all.

828

:

But I did feel kind of bad for her there.

829

:

She had, she had come across as

a little bit whiny earlier, but

830

:

I was like, man, and especially

because I pointed out in a previous

831

:

episode, I was like, this is stupid.

832

:

They shouldn't be working together.

833

:

And,

834

:

Xhafer: And then they do

it again, and then this

835

:

Laura: and then they do it again.

836

:

And I, and I'm just over

here going, see, see.

837

:

But uh, yeah, her like earnestness

and sadness has finally gotten

838

:

2-year-old to realize like,

oh, I've been a little stupid.

839

:

Xhafer: Mm.

840

:

Laura: After she tells Adama who

should take Nikki he tells her like,

841

:

yeah, I guess I was being selfish.

842

:

I wanted this to be like old

times where you and I would

843

:

just work on some shit together.

844

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

845

:

Laura: And I guess I really

can't do that anymore.

846

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

847

:

Laura: But Kelly believes in

Papa dama, which is going to make

848

:

something next episode rather jarring.

849

:

And all the while, like beyond the

observation glass tie is like listing off

850

:

the things that can go wrong to Adama.

851

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

852

:

Laura: It's like, just so you know,

853

:

Ty, so helpful.

854

:

Always.

855

:

Xhafer: The uh, the Raptor gets

in position and uh, gets ready.

856

:

They blow the hatch.

857

:

They uh, they have to like dodge the

door as it flies off, but they manage

858

:

to catch them during the decompression.

859

:

Laura: all the boxes that we're just

hanging around to are flying out, so that

860

:

makes it extra dramatic as we are like

861

:

Xhafer: Stuff.

862

:

Yeah.

863

:

Laura: trying to catch these people and

not everyone get hit by all the stuff.

864

:

Xhafer: Whoever thought they

could use this broken airlock

865

:

as a storage unit Incorrect.

866

:

Laura: Bad call, watch.

867

:

Watch.

868

:

It was Tyrell.

869

:

Just, oh, just chuck it up.

870

:

Chuck it up there in Airlock 12 right now.

871

:

Like

872

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

873

:

Laura: we don't have space for it here.

874

:

Like,

875

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

876

:

No one's using that one.

877

:

It's fine.

878

:

Laura: yeah.

879

:

That would be so funny.

880

:

But we gotta go straight,

straight to sick bay.

881

:

We are in bad shape.

882

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

883

:

they're in rough shape, but they are

OI if it's confirmed very quickly.

884

:

Lee and Adama talk about the divorce after

Papa dama reveals that it's their wedding

885

:

anniversary and he gets to hear about how

life went for his kids without him, and

886

:

it is not as good as he thought it was.

887

:

Laura: Yeah, he didn't know.

888

:

He didn't know.

889

:

Lee is very like, good job.

890

:

Jamie Bamber, like this is very raw.

891

:

The way he describes like

892

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

893

:

Laura: living with his mother.

894

:

He's still hurting over this.

895

:

And, um, Claud Ann was moody and

mean and had a drinking problem.

896

:

She remarried, but we don't hear

anything about the stepdad really.

897

:

And Claud Ann in his mind

starts like screaming at him.

898

:

And as Lee's telling him like, you know,

she was mean, I, I had a hard time.

899

:

She was really awful.

900

:

Claud Ann screaming at Adama

that it's his fault that she was

901

:

awful because you weren't there.

902

:

So I was bad.

903

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

904

:

Laura: Okay.

905

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

906

:

He kinda like finally stands up to her

a little bit in his dreamscape, but

907

:

this whole thing is just so fucking sad.

908

:

Laura: Yeah, it really is.

909

:

Xhafer: I just was bummed

out the entire time,

910

:

which is just how I

felt this whole episode.

911

:

But we'll talk about that

in about three minutes.

912

:

Laura: He and he, like when

he is hearing about Lee's pain

913

:

too, he tells Lee to stop,

914

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

915

:

Laura: which I thought

was, I don't know, rude.

916

:

Like you asked, man,

917

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

918

:

Laura: you asked, and I finally get to

share with you like that I was horribly

919

:

hurt and you don't wanna hear it.

920

:

Xhafer: Mm-hmm.

921

:

Laura: He just says

like, well, I loved her.

922

:

And Lee's like, well, she didn't love you.

923

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

924

:

Laura: So, I don't know.

925

:

I, I just, it, it's very dad tropey

926

:

to be like, shut down in the face

of your child expressing negative

927

:

emotions and to shut them down.

928

:

And I'm just disappointed in it, I guess.

929

:

Xhafer: That's fair.

930

:

Laura: just 'cause you hurt doesn't mean

you don't have to listen to his hurt.

931

:

I

932

:

dunno.

933

:

Xhafer: we go over to the infirmary where

Ick Springs, Nikki to see mommy and daddy.

934

:

Galen is in a lot better

shape than Callie.

935

:

Laura: Yeah.

936

:

Xhafer: He's like up and walking around

and like, not on an IV or anything.

937

:

And Callie is in the hyperbaric chamber.

938

:

Laura: Yeah.

939

:

I don't know what happened.

940

:

They don't, they don't put

any like techno babble on it.

941

:

Xhafer: Yeah, it's just he's

okay and she's fucked up.

942

:

Laura: I mean, there was

a lot of debris out there.

943

:

She could have hit some serious junk.

944

:

Xhafer: she could have hit some junk.

945

:

Like her eyes are messed

up when we see her

946

:

Laura: bad.

947

:

Yeah.

948

:

Xhafer: So like, maybe she was more

sensitive to like the lack of oxygen.

949

:

Or the pressure, being

smaller than Galen maybe.

950

:

She was more impacted by

the temperature change,

951

:

just like as a raw like

amount of body mass thing.

952

:

Um, cause she's tiny.

953

:

Tiny,

954

:

Laura: Yeah.

955

:

She does seem little.

956

:

Xhafer: yeah.

957

:

She's like, I, if I Googled her

height and saw that it was like five

958

:

four, I'd be like, of course it is.

959

:

Um, I don't, I don't know though.

960

:

She just seems like she's

961

:

Laura: A small person.

962

:

Xhafer: very small person.

963

:

Yeah.

964

:

Laura: She, so Tyrell like presses

Nikki's hand on the glass and Adama

965

:

sees him promising Callie that

they're gonna find a better balance

966

:

and they're not gonna do this anymore.

967

:

Xhafer: We're gonna make our marriage

work and he's just like, oh, that's nice.

968

:

Huh?

969

:

Huh.

970

:

Laura: Yeah.

971

:

Lee goes back home to Dee and Adama's

left him a big box of law books with a

972

:

note that still doesn't say I love you.

973

:

Xhafer: And it never will.

974

:

Laura: I was like, ah.

975

:

So you couldn't even like give in to

Claud Ann that little bit and just do it.

976

:

Xhafer: Just say the thing.

977

:

Just say the thing guy.

978

:

Laura: I don't know why

this is so hard for dads.

979

:

I don't know.

980

:

I have this dad.

981

:

I could probably count on one hand the

amount of times he said he loved me.

982

:

Xhafer: I.

983

:

I don't know how much I love you.

984

:

I got from my dad.

985

:

I got 'em proud of you a handful of times.

986

:

Laura: Uhhuh.

987

:

Xhafer: I remember those.

988

:

Laura: Yeah,

989

:

Xhafer: I don't know about the love.

990

:

Huh?

991

:

Thinking about it and nothing

really stands out in my brain.

992

:

That's probably not a good sign, right?

993

:

Laura: yeah.

994

:

See Aaron, Aaron got lucky and had a

very intentional dad about those things.

995

:

So Aaron's grandfather Wardwell

had been in World War ii, right?

996

:

Famously fucked up from World War ii.

997

:

Xhafer: He, he was OBE for sure.

998

:

Laura: Yeah.

999

:

He was OB and uh, he was

the dad that didn't really

:

00:45:02,086 --> 00:45:04,366

express emotions and stuff and.

:

00:45:05,071 --> 00:45:07,561

Aaron's dad fought in Vietnam.

:

00:45:07,651 --> 00:45:07,981

Right.

:

00:45:08,191 --> 00:45:11,701

Another place to be famously, OBE.

:

00:45:12,361 --> 00:45:16,951

But he set an intention with his

children that they were gonna know

:

00:45:17,581 --> 00:45:21,091

that he was gonna say he loved

them and they were gonna know it.

:

00:45:21,091 --> 00:45:22,471

And he did it all the time.

:

00:45:23,341 --> 00:45:24,601

Totally comfortable with it.

:

00:45:25,201 --> 00:45:27,128

And that's pretty neat.

:

00:45:27,406 --> 00:45:27,786

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:45:28,078 --> 00:45:32,338

Laura: It's pretty neat to be having

that house where we say it to each other

:

00:45:32,608 --> 00:45:36,231

all the time, every day, and uh, yeah.

:

00:45:36,336 --> 00:45:36,546

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:45:36,546 --> 00:45:37,086

That's good.

:

00:45:37,641 --> 00:45:38,631

Laura: It's a good place to be.

:

00:45:38,946 --> 00:45:39,276

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:45:39,336 --> 00:45:41,136

I tell my nephew I love him all the time.

:

00:45:41,386 --> 00:45:41,806

Laura: Mm-hmm.

:

00:45:43,346 --> 00:45:43,676

Xhafer: Also, it's

:

00:45:43,676 --> 00:45:43,886

like

:

00:45:44,021 --> 00:45:47,621

Laura: it's a, it's going outta fashion

for dads to be like totally stoic.

:

00:45:47,906 --> 00:45:48,326

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:45:48,776 --> 00:45:52,766

Like a lot of my friends will we say

it to each other as well, like it's

:

00:45:52,766 --> 00:45:55,076

a platonic, but you know, it's true.

:

00:45:55,196 --> 00:45:57,213

And uh, you know, we try

to make a point of it.

:

00:45:57,983 --> 00:46:02,693

Um, I think more so than, I definitely

have friend groups that would like be

:

00:46:02,693 --> 00:46:04,613

really weird about it if someone said it.

:

00:46:04,943 --> 00:46:09,293

But, um, those are people that

I hang out with a lot less,

:

00:46:10,223 --> 00:46:11,273

to be perfectly honest.

:

00:46:11,759 --> 00:46:13,259

Laura: It's okay to love people,

:

00:46:13,504 --> 00:46:13,794

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:46:14,294 --> 00:46:14,514

Uh,

:

00:46:15,208 --> 00:46:19,468

Laura: and some of us are really

literal, and if you don't tell us,

:

00:46:19,468 --> 00:46:20,998

we won't know that you love us.

:

00:46:20,998 --> 00:46:22,168

So just say it.

:

00:46:24,118 --> 00:46:24,988

Just say it.

:

00:46:25,048 --> 00:46:25,948

Xhafer: just say the thing,

:

00:46:26,718 --> 00:46:32,990

Rosalyn gives DAMA a new pulp mystery,

new air quotes, one that she had found.

:

00:46:33,290 --> 00:46:36,500

They reminisce about their

good times on new caprica, the

:

00:46:36,500 --> 00:46:38,510

cabin spending time together.

:

00:46:39,030 --> 00:46:39,480

Laura: Mm-hmm.

:

00:46:39,900 --> 00:46:43,737

Xhafer: And then he says

uh, goodbye to Claran.

:

00:46:44,260 --> 00:46:45,940

See you next year to credits.

:

00:46:46,480 --> 00:46:46,840

That's it.

:

00:46:47,830 --> 00:46:55,390

Laura: Yeah, well, I got really misty

because they kind of like talk around the

:

00:46:55,390 --> 00:47:01,480

cabin a little bit, Rosalyn and Adama,

and he's like, yep, that's not our life.

:

00:47:01,750 --> 00:47:02,440

Basically.

:

00:47:02,980 --> 00:47:05,200

That's not where things went

and that's not where we are.

:

00:47:05,470 --> 00:47:09,190

And she brings it back and she's like,

I would've built the cabin though.

:

00:47:09,625 --> 00:47:10,015

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:47:10,660 --> 00:47:11,200

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:47:11,410 --> 00:47:12,550

And you could have been with me.

:

00:47:12,550 --> 00:47:15,490

And I just, I was so, I was so silly.

:

00:47:15,490 --> 00:47:18,550

At the end of this episode, I

was like, it's the greatest love

:

00:47:18,550 --> 00:47:21,550

story ever told mom and dad.

:

00:47:22,360 --> 00:47:24,010

I just love them so much.

:

00:47:28,810 --> 00:47:34,360

So yeah, this one wasn't as

bad as I expected either to me.

:

00:47:34,795 --> 00:47:35,095

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:47:35,892 --> 00:47:38,142

I really disliked this episode.

:

00:47:38,142 --> 00:47:40,272

Not, not even like.

:

00:47:40,915 --> 00:47:43,255

I don't have a problem with

any of the plot points.

:

00:47:43,255 --> 00:47:45,355

I don't have a problem

with anything that happens.

:

00:47:45,385 --> 00:47:46,555

I was just bored.

:

00:47:47,485 --> 00:47:48,775

I was just so fucking bored.

:

00:47:48,775 --> 00:47:52,525

This episode, it took, this

is like, I, I, I, I know I've

:

00:47:52,525 --> 00:47:53,575

talked about this a couple times.

:

00:47:53,575 --> 00:47:57,085

Sometimes I hit an episode where I

just like will find excuses to do

:

00:47:57,085 --> 00:48:00,325

things so that I don't have to continue

watching this episode and taking

:

00:48:00,615 --> 00:48:00,965

Laura: Uhhuh.

:

00:48:01,210 --> 00:48:01,600

Yeah.

:

00:48:01,705 --> 00:48:04,165

Xhafer: That was this episode

for me, and maybe that's just

:

00:48:04,165 --> 00:48:06,355

like my day and I'm just tired.

:

00:48:07,015 --> 00:48:09,565

Maybe it's just this

episode, I don't know.

:

00:48:09,835 --> 00:48:11,455

But it's definitely what happened.

:

00:48:11,485 --> 00:48:14,455

It's just like, oh, let me get

up and go, let the dog out.

:

00:48:14,485 --> 00:48:16,895

Oh, let me get up and

make dinner real quick.

:

00:48:16,895 --> 00:48:17,945

Oh, let me, you know what?

:

00:48:17,945 --> 00:48:19,385

I should make lunches for the week.

:

00:48:19,385 --> 00:48:20,195

I'm gonna go do that.

:

00:48:20,679 --> 00:48:23,979

anything, anything besides this episode?

:

00:48:24,652 --> 00:48:29,647

Laura: I think we successfully reset my

expectations on these episodes like so

:

00:48:29,647 --> 00:48:32,167

far down that I was just like, oh, okay.

:

00:48:33,742 --> 00:48:34,282

Xhafer: I was so.

:

00:48:34,882 --> 00:48:35,422

I don't know.

:

00:48:35,422 --> 00:48:37,525

It's just like, I was just done.

:

00:48:37,975 --> 00:48:41,665

I was just done like we were supposed

to record two tonight and I didn't

:

00:48:41,665 --> 00:48:44,185

have a second one because it's just

like, I'm not, I can't sit through

:

00:48:44,185 --> 00:48:45,595

another episode of this show right now.

:

00:48:45,927 --> 00:48:48,557

Laura: Yeah, but I, I didn't

find this one that bad.

:

00:48:48,622 --> 00:48:52,277

I, I was a little afraid that them

being trapped in the airlock was

:

00:48:52,277 --> 00:48:58,912

gonna be a lot more like screechy

drama than it turned out to be.

:

00:48:58,912 --> 00:49:03,022

Like, yeah, Kelly was a little

whiny, I thought, but, and I was a

:

00:49:03,022 --> 00:49:05,542

little annoyed 'cause I was like, I

already figured this shit out, guys.

:

00:49:05,542 --> 00:49:06,442

I don't know why you,

:

00:49:07,912 --> 00:49:08,182

like,

:

00:49:08,347 --> 00:49:09,007

Xhafer: their time.

:

00:49:10,042 --> 00:49:12,982

Laura: I don't know why you

had to have this ha like you

:

00:49:12,982 --> 00:49:14,542

couldn't imagine this happening.

:

00:49:14,812 --> 00:49:15,232

I don't know.

:

00:49:15,795 --> 00:49:23,898

and I, I kind of liked finding out more

about Adama's inner life and his torment

:

00:49:23,898 --> 00:49:26,838

of his own mind person once a year.

:

00:49:27,858 --> 00:49:30,468

And that he and Rosalyn

still like each other.

:

00:49:33,108 --> 00:49:38,958

That she just wants to come over and just

be like, hi, I'm gonna go use your gym.

:

00:49:42,093 --> 00:49:43,623

Let's talk business.

:

00:49:43,683 --> 00:49:47,073

Um, yeah, I would've built

that cabin for me and you.

:

00:49:47,703 --> 00:49:48,033

Xhafer: Yeah, that

:

00:49:48,243 --> 00:49:52,383

Laura: I just, I liked

that stuff, so it was fine.

:

00:49:52,623 --> 00:49:54,123

I'd give it like an eight.

:

00:49:54,800 --> 00:49:56,480

Xhafer: I'm gonna give this one a five.

:

00:49:58,430 --> 00:49:58,700

Laura: Okay

:

00:49:59,345 --> 00:49:59,635

Xhafer: yeah,

:

00:50:00,150 --> 00:50:00,720

I don't know.

:

00:50:02,040 --> 00:50:05,100

Laura: Maybe I'm just

hopped up on my, my ship

:

00:50:06,090 --> 00:50:07,620

just got me going,

:

00:50:07,890 --> 00:50:08,160

but

:

00:50:10,373 --> 00:50:10,853

Xhafer: All right.

:

00:50:10,853 --> 00:50:13,733

Well next up we've got

season three, episode 16.

:

00:50:14,838 --> 00:50:16,158

Dirty hands.

:

00:50:16,158 --> 00:50:16,968

Did I, did I?

:

00:50:17,883 --> 00:50:18,663

Laura: It's dirty hands.

:

00:50:18,663 --> 00:50:19,113

Yes.

:

00:50:19,338 --> 00:50:19,638

Xhafer: Hands.

:

00:50:19,638 --> 00:50:19,968

Okay.

:

00:50:20,403 --> 00:50:20,673

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:50:20,673 --> 00:50:21,393

That's the name

:

00:50:21,543 --> 00:50:22,233

That's the name of the

:

00:50:22,368 --> 00:50:23,568

Xhafer: my handwriting for a minute.

:

00:50:23,658 --> 00:50:25,548

It's like, that can't be

the name of the episode.

:

00:50:25,548 --> 00:50:26,088

It is.

:

00:50:26,678 --> 00:50:28,628

Laura: It has two meanings in this sense.

:

00:50:29,243 --> 00:50:32,513

Xhafer: amid a heated labor

dispute, Tyrell asked the

:

00:50:32,513 --> 00:50:34,913

imprisoned Baltar for advice.

:

00:50:36,353 --> 00:50:38,003

That's the description I got for you.

:

00:50:39,857 --> 00:50:40,367

Laura: Yeah,

:

00:50:41,258 --> 00:50:41,438

Xhafer: Now.

:

00:50:41,438 --> 00:50:42,998

You didn't like this next one,

:

00:50:44,228 --> 00:50:46,748

Laura: there's some things about

it that I really don't like.

:

00:50:46,898 --> 00:50:49,418

Xhafer: I'm really glad I didn't

force myself to watch it after this

:

00:50:49,418 --> 00:50:52,298

one because I can't imagine the

mess I would be recording right now.

:

00:50:53,011 --> 00:50:56,911

Laura: Just know that there's some things

you're really probably not gonna like.

:

00:50:57,541 --> 00:50:58,021

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:50:58,111 --> 00:51:00,181

I mean, that's gonna happen.

:

00:51:00,778 --> 00:51:02,758

It won't be the last time with this show.

:

00:51:03,003 --> 00:51:03,293

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:51:04,198 --> 00:51:04,708

Fair.

:

00:51:05,200 --> 00:51:10,500

Xhafer: All right, well, we'll talk about

that next week, but this week we really

:

00:51:10,500 --> 00:51:12,120

have to say thank you to Jeremy Siegel.

:

00:51:13,020 --> 00:51:15,060

Hey Jeremy, thanks so

much for our theme music.

:

00:51:15,450 --> 00:51:17,790

Jeremy Siegel, 40 two.bandcamp.com

:

00:51:17,790 --> 00:51:21,450

and on streaming services

as the nuclear jaguar.

:

00:51:21,820 --> 00:51:28,510

Laura: We are so lucky to have a real

bonafide radio star making music for us.

:

00:51:28,750 --> 00:51:29,320

Xhafer: Yeah,

:

00:51:29,890 --> 00:51:33,610

Laura: Like on the actual like, you

know the thing in your car that you

:

00:51:33,610 --> 00:51:38,590

can turn it on and like sometimes

you'll hear music out of that

:

00:51:38,590 --> 00:51:38,890

thing.

:

00:51:39,730 --> 00:51:40,210

Yeah.

:

00:51:40,540 --> 00:51:46,540

I saw a Instagram reel of our composer

listening to his own band playing

:

00:51:47,260 --> 00:51:48,670

on his car radio.

:

00:51:49,630 --> 00:51:50,020

Xhafer: I had that

:

00:51:50,110 --> 00:51:51,190

Laura: Isn't that cool?

:

00:51:52,150 --> 00:51:56,450

Xhafer: The grunge band I was in, we

got played on the radio one of the

:

00:51:56,450 --> 00:51:58,370

uh, the rock stations in Detroit once.

:

00:51:58,815 --> 00:51:59,775

Laura: It feels good, right?

:

00:51:59,790 --> 00:52:00,990

Xhafer: It felt so cool.

:

00:52:01,110 --> 00:52:02,910

Oh my God, that was the coolest.

:

00:52:03,768 --> 00:52:07,248

Laura: I am basking in the

cool for Jeremy Siegel.

:

00:52:07,398 --> 00:52:07,938

So amazing.

:

00:52:08,658 --> 00:52:13,608

Yes, and on the Instagram platform,

you can also go there and see angry

:

00:52:13,608 --> 00:52:15,828

Duck time machine for more artwork.

:

00:52:16,038 --> 00:52:18,333

Xhafer: Aaron, thanks so much

for editing this episode.

:

00:52:18,963 --> 00:52:20,403

You were even supposed to come in today.

:

00:52:22,287 --> 00:52:23,801

Laura: Hey, listener, I love you.

:

00:52:24,296 --> 00:52:25,166

Xhafer: I love you listener.

:

00:52:25,410 --> 00:52:26,220

I love the Discord.

:

00:52:26,318 --> 00:52:26,738

Laura: Mm-hmm.

:

00:52:27,248 --> 00:52:27,548

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:52:27,913 --> 00:52:31,198

Laura: If you wanna come on over and

hang out, we'd love to have you there.

:

00:52:31,755 --> 00:52:34,931

Xhafer: And uh, we don't ask very

often, but you know, if you wanna

:

00:52:34,931 --> 00:52:41,142

like, rate the podcast or something,

share it with your friends be cool.

:

00:52:41,475 --> 00:52:41,920

Laura: We love

:

00:52:41,920 --> 00:52:42,100

them

:

00:52:42,100 --> 00:52:42,460

too.

:

00:52:42,715 --> 00:52:42,835

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:52:43,630 --> 00:52:43,900

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:52:44,210 --> 00:52:45,273

Xhafer: Well, we'll see you next week.

:

00:52:45,273 --> 00:52:45,633

Internet.

:

00:52:45,950 --> 00:52:46,580

Laura: Bye.
