Sharon Hamersley joins us for this episode. Some of you may know Sharon as “The Resume Coach.”
She generously provides job searching information to Central Ohioans in many formats, including working with local nonprofits and the libraries with various workshops and training programs.
In this first part of a two-part series, we cover questions on the tools we need in order to have a successful job search in today’s market, starting with tips for your resume.
We go over the particular items which should be included, or not included, on a resume for those experienced adults.
How do you prove one's technological skills to a potential employer?
We also cover the ways to be sure you resume is “ATS friendly.” Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are software programs that scan resume content and use an algorithm to search for keywords. ... Because these automated resume screening systems are so prevalent, it's critical to write ATS-friendly resumes so your application materials will get seen by human eyes.
We now have interviews on the phone and online via programs like Zoom. Sharon covers tips on how to be an effective in an interview, regardless of the technology used.
After submitting resumes and applications, and maybe had an interview, follow-up is critical. But can be Impossible to get to a hiring manager if everything is online. Sharon has some insight on that.
Candidates, regardless of age, need to go into the job search process with confidence that they are truly the “best candidate” that employer is going to find. We end part one with some tips on how you can reach that level of self-confidence in your application materials and preparation.
