Sounds like Aaron is literally too cool for school
Leif:dances. That is.
Steve:Well, I mean, he probably has a restraining order keeping him
Steve:away from. Keeping him from M300
Steve:feet from within a school building.
Leif:Hey, Upper east siders and all you scandal loving
Leif:listeners out there, you just tuned into the non judging
Leif:breakfast podcast where the coffee is strong, the
Leif:waffles are fresh, and the gossip is hotter than
Leif:ever. My name is Leif and I'm your seasoned Gossip
Leif:Girl veteran.
Steve:And I'm Steve, the newbie, the greenhorn,
Steve:the, I don't know, Leif. What do we call the season
Steve:two Gossip Girl newbie on?
Leif:I think it comes out to. If you know a little something about a thing called
Leif:lining
Steve:Well, put me in a dress for all to see
Steve:and let's go ahead and get started.
Leif:Sounds good.
Steve:So here's the deal, folks. Leif has been watching
Steve:Gossip Girl since it first came out in 2007.
Steve:And I'm diving in for the first time. And together we're
Steve:your dynamic duo, bringing you all the drama,
Steve:romance and sometimes questionable fashion
Steve:choices of this iconic TV series.
Leif:That's right. Each week we're going to be taking a deep dive into the
Leif:show one episode at a time. We're going to be
Leif:analyzing all the hidden parallels, obscure
Leif:references, and of course the couture catastrophes.
Leif:And we're also going to take a look at some stories from fandom and
Leif:some behind scenes guys.
Steve:And since we're all about inclusivity here at the non judging
Steve:breakfast pod, there is always a seat for you at the non
Steve:judging breakfast table. So go ahead and grab your
Steve:mimosa, cup of coffee or some of Chuck,
Steve:special medicine and let's get this show going.
Leif:Okay. Ah, before we get into the episode, we got a
Leif:little fan interaction here.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:Got our first five star review.
Leif:Very not first five stars. This is our first actual
Leif:review. We had a few other five stars but they didn't
Leif:leave actual review. Yeah, this one was from Monica,
Leif:lpm, who wrote I love this
Leif:duo. So fun to listen to their breakdown of
Leif:Gossip Girl. They have such a great
Leif:dynamic.
Steve:Thank you very much, Monica.
Leif:Yes, thank you, Monica.
Steve:Yeah, we really appreciate it. And I'm curious
Steve:as to whether that's Monica, a former student of mine that
Steve:I haven't seen in 20 some
Steve:years, which is awesome. I guess
Steve:it would be, I guess it would be 18
Steve:years since.
Leif:I write in and let us know.
Steve:Yeah, talk to us.
Leif:Also, NJ Flyd wrote about episode
Leif:202, specifically Gossip Girl outfits. You
Leif:guys chose the best here's. The worst. Chuck at
Leif:the cafe wearing a long sleeve button down
Leif:shirt tucked into shorts and flip flops. I
Leif:would have to punch him in the throat.
Steve:I remember that. That's what he was talking
Steve:to Marcus.
Leif:Yes, I know. That's what he's walking down the
Leif:street with Nate as well. Yeah. Yeah, for a while.
Steve:That was awful.
Leif:Also, some more cast news since we last
Leif:recorded. The photos came out from both Jessica Zors
Leif:and Ed Westwick's wedding.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Not to each other.
Steve:Not yet. To, to two other people. I know there were
Steve:some cast members in attendance for Jessica's.
Steve:Right.
Leif:Yes. So Chase was at Jessica's, who she married
Leif:NHL, former NHL player Brad Richardson. And
Leif:Ed Westwick married Amy Jackson, who's
Leif:British, but acts in mostly Indian films.
Steve:Okay. Okay.
Leif:And Kelly, Rutherford was there.
Steve:I was going to say, I thought I heard Kelly Rutherford was going to his
Steve:wedding.
Leif:So she listened. Monica.
Steve:Okay. Yeah, that.
Leif:That tracks because. Yeah. Because her kids live
Leif:in France.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. Big fan.
Leif:also, Jessica's wedding was Nina Dobra. Oh,
Leif:Vampire Diaries.
Steve:Okay. Okay.
Leif:They're best friends.
Steve:Oh, I didn't. I. Yeah. I don't know. That's another one I need
Steve:to watch still. I voiced my hesitation on that
Steve:because I. I feel like I'm gonna watch it wanting
Steve:Buffy, and I know that it's not going to be. I
Steve:guess I need to watch.
Leif:Say the writing isn't as good, but the production value
Leif:is way, way better.
Steve:I mean, the bar
Steve:was not set high.
Steve:Especially. Especially, like, season one.
Steve:Buffy, like.
Leif:And some of the acting is better.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Some, is the same.
Steve:Yeah. I mean, but not all of them will measure up
Steve:to Michelle Trachtenberg,
Steve:who could.
Leif:Well, I keep getting into fights with Gossip Girl fandom
Leif:because people that say she's a great actress.
Steve:No, no. She did dawn pretty
Steve:well because that's what she does,
Steve:apparently.
Leif:So we are here to talk about season two,
Leif:episode 12, A Wonderful Lie. Original
Leif:air date December 1, 2008 so, it was
Leif:right around that holiday season.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Of course, the title is based on It's a Wonderful Life.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Jimmy Stewart.
Steve:Right. Which I only recently saw for
Steve:the first time because my Jewish wife made
Steve:me watch it. Watch this iconic
Steve:Christmas film.
Leif:Hard to miss back when there's only, like, 12 channels.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. It was in black and white, and young
Steve:Steve had no time for that. And except
Steve:for my TV in my room, which was a black and
Steve:white TV because it was the old family tv.
Steve:Moved into the playroom, and then I got the
Steve:playroom So I inherited the
Steve:black and white tv. No idea which
Steve:destro I was watching on GI Joe each
Steve:week. The silver or, the gold head.
Leif:We go back to the vulture recap. While it was
Leif:billed as the holiday event for high school seniors,
Leif:the Snowflake Ball did not feel as
Leif:festive, as lively, or as crucial
Leif:as the Gossip Girl big events of the past. The decor,
Leif:of course, was flawless, thanks to Lily. The sound, thanks
Leif:to Rufus. Sublime. Blair and Chuck
Leif:bantered, the mean girls cackled, and
Leif:everyone made a little dancing motions in their ice
Leif:violet gowns. But the guests didn't seem to be having
Leif:fun, and neither were we. Something was off. Everyone
Leif:was preoccupied. The characters, yes, but
Leif:also the cameraman, who at one point lost their
Leif:sense of purpose and drifted away, taking
Leif:meaningful shots of fuzzy Serena with a focus
Leif:Dan in the background. Fuzzy Dan with a focus Serena
Leif:in the background. And at one point honed in on a handful
Leif:of extras who, quite frankly, had no business
Leif:representing actual Manhattanites. Did anyone
Leif:else see that couple tongue kissing? It was worse than November
Leif:rain. But
Leif:some well drawn characters and funny dialogues
Leif:warmed up otherwise might have left us
Leif:cold. And anyway, next week, Bart
Leif:officially dies and Chuck does something of a
Leif:spiteful that causes Rufus to wear a
Leif:pullover. We can't wait.
Steve:Yeah. And, yeah, I was. I wasn't
Steve:sure about the Bart thing. but I kind of
Steve:guessed. Yeah.
Leif:I mean, even back in the day, the previews, like, showed
Leif:the funeral.
Steve:Yeah. And I. Yeah. Ah. And I saw, like, after
Steve:I watched the first time, I
Steve:saw the Even.
Leif:I told you not to look at it.
Steve:No, no, I. Well, I mean, it was there. I didn't watch.
Steve:I didn't see it before I watched it was. I watched it. But
Steve:then to watch it that second time, I had to go in,
Steve:and it was. And when I went into HBO Max,
Steve:it was set up as that's the next episode with
Steve:that frame right there. So, like,
Steve:there was, like, no way of not. Yeah, yeah,
Steve:but I. But, I mean, going into it, the reason
Steve:I texted you and said, is this the Christmas one? Is because I was
Steve:being so hyper, careful not to
Steve:look, that I didn't want to skip ahead by accident.
Leif:So this episode was written by
Leif:Robbie Hull. He's back for his second episode of
Leif:the season. His previous credit was for episode
Leif:four, the X Files, which is the episode I'm just
Leif:editing right now. That was the one where, Dan went on
Leif:a date with Amanda. It was Chuck's plant.
Steve:Yeah. Okay.
Steve:Yes. With the hair. And.
Leif:Yeah, it was an okay episode. But, yeah, she was. She was not the
Leif:great, greatest actress. It was a good episode, but, yeah, she
Leif:was a bad actor.
Steve:She was. Yeah, she was. She was not good. But the rest of it. Because
Steve:that's the one where Serena shuns Dan.
Leif:yeah.
Steve:Yeah. Like, the choreography in that scene was so
Steve:cool.
Leif:Patrick R. Norris is back directing. His
Leif:previous credits include Bad News, Blair, High
Leif:Society, then the episode after the one we just talked about, the
Leif:Seren Also Rises, which was the fashion show episode.
Steve:Yeah. Were they.
Leif:Well, that was the first fashion show episode of the season. There's
Leif:two so far.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. This.
Leif:This was the big, official fashion week fashion show.
Steve:Right. And that was actually the episode where I
Steve:felt like they found their feet
Steve:again. That, like, I felt like the. Well, I guess it was a little,
Steve:earlier. Those first two episodes were so
Steve:off the regular vibe of Gossip Girl,
Steve:and.
Leif:I think it all came down to being in the Hamptons. That was a big part of
Leif:it.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Once they.
Leif:But also settling it. Stephanie Savage wrote that one
Leif:episode is not great.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. But once it settled into
Steve:New York. And yeah, the episode that
Steve:Stephanie Savage wrote wasn't great, but that was a ham. That was the first
Steve:one back in New York, right?
Leif:Yes.
Steve:The one that we just released. The one that Robin.
Leif:Yeah. So it's like the one where they're coming back to, They start
Leif:out in the Hamptons, and they. And they, With the strawberries.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:The infamous strawberry upset the strawberry. So
Leif:we move into Act 1. Winter in
Leif:New York. A Gossip Girl checklist to surviving the
Leif:cold. A cashmere stole for ice skating at
Leif:Walman Rink. Jacques Pere hot, chocolate for
Leif:window shopping. The holiday displays. The perfect date
Leif:to the senior snowflake charity ball.
Leif:In the school courtyard, Blair and Serena are
Leif:arguing about the snowflake ball. When Chuck
Leif:interrupts and sits down without permission.
Leif:Chuck shoots down a series of potential dates for
Leif:Blair.
Steve:I thought this was cute. The Chuck and
Steve:Blair and Chuck just knowing Blair.
Steve:And Blair just knowing Chuck. And you see the whole plot
Steve:of their storyline unfolding right here.
Steve:Once again, I find that Gossip
Steve:Girl took a very
Steve:predictable, cliche plotline and
Steve:made it fun because there was nothing
Steve:groundbreaking about this the chair
Steve:storyline in this, but it was still
Steve:fun. I still liked seeing them interact in their
Steve:banter.
Leif:Sarita gets up when she sees Dan. She chases him
Leif:down to the hall to show him the gift she got for Aaron. Based
Leif:on Dan's advice, however, it sounds like Aaron is
Leif:literally too cool for school dances.
Leif:That is.
Steve:Well, I mean, he probably has A restraining order keeping him
Steve:away from. Keeping him from
Steve:300ft from within school
Steve:building. also, Robin is the one
Steve:that caught the Anna Wintour joke. The.
Steve:It's like Anna Karenina, but with Anna
Steve:Wintour. And so she is a designer.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:I feel like Dan admitting that
Leif:he's actually likes this society things
Leif:just signaling that, like, maybe they're going to get back
Leif:together.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:He's almost. He's kind of getting ready to be back together with her.
Steve:And where he said the thing about, like, the
Steve:best memories that I have had have been
Steve:at these events. And like,
Steve:he edits the part out that the best memories that he's
Steve:had has been at these events with her. But
Steve:also, there's always drama at these events
Steve:that you're involved in. But.
Leif:Okay, so
Leif:Jenny is doing penance. The Lost. When Vanessa shows
Leif:up, Jenny is still wondering why Nate blew
Leif:her off. Vanessa just plays dumb. Speak of the
Leif:devil, look who is calling on V's phone.
Leif:Fuck you, Vanessa.
Steve:Yeah, my note is Vanessa sucks.
Steve:I'm gonna also say that I felt like
Steve:this was some of Jessica's best
Steve:work in this episode. I think that she really acted her
Steve:ass off. This is also her. Her biggest.
Leif:No shade of Jessica.
Steve:Yeah, no shade to her in this. But Vanessa
Steve:turns up the suckage here and
Steve:it's just like, yeah, what an asshole.
Leif:So Vanessa, is crosses paths
Leif:with Penelope, who has shown up to the loft looking to commission
Leif:a custom Jenny hemp dress.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Good for Jenny.
Steve:Yeah. And she plays it perfectly like,
Steve:you hate me. She's like, yeah, but. And she's like, well, okay.
Steve:Like, I'm expensive. You're gonna have to pay
Steve:me like that.
Leif:So. You bet.
Steve:You should. Yeah. Yeah. Ought to be.
Leif:Rufus and Lily are reconnecting after last week.
Leif:Rufus volunteers his knowledge of sound systems to
Leif:help Lily with preparation for the ball.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:didn't he already do this in season one?
Steve:Yeah, yeah. well, he did this for the Ivy
Steve:party. Yeah, for the
Steve:Ivy. Yeah. But that was Rufus unplugged.
Steve:This is Rufus, LLC sound system.
Leif:Well, this is. Yeah, this is. He's not actually performing this way. He's
Leif:just doing the sound.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Lily has been avoiding Bart, who conveniently pulls
Leif:up into his limo. Rufus steps aside for them
Leif:to have the conversation.
Steve:No heads up, Rufus. Like, not a, Oh,
Steve:Yo, Bart's here. He's like, oh, I'm
Steve:out. Deuces.
Steve:Hey, don't look now, but turn around.
Leif:I mean, that whole thing, the conversation was basically upsetting. You have to Have a
Leif:conversation with him.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then when he pulls up, he's like,
Steve:you know, sometimes. I don't know when,
Steve:I don't know when.
Leif:I mean, what's she gonna do, like right away?
Steve:I'm just saying, if I were Lily, I would have appreciated that. Oh, he's
Steve:here. Instead of turning
Steve:around.
Leif:Sarita and Dan show up at the gallery where they
Leif:overhear Aaron's ex girlfriend Lexi snarking over the
Leif:art. And Serena.
Steve:Lexi is first of all a little
Steve:much. Yeah, she's written terribly. Like,
Steve:she's just.
Leif:I think she's, I think she's written exactly how she's supposed to be written.
Steve:Okay, okay, that's fair.
Leif:She's supposed to be a little much.
Steve:Yeah, but yeah, she's a little
Steve:much.
Leif:She's a lot for
Leif:one, one episode character. I thought she was actually kind of perfect.
Steve:I. I just didn't really love this
Steve:storyline. I thought the whole we're
Steve:gonna bang storyline was
Steve:weird.
Leif:Why couldn't she just vote?
Steve:Why couldn't she just vote? I. That was
Steve:fantastic.
Leif:Nate and Vanessa are making out in the open. When Nate asked
Leif:Vanessa to the Snowflake Ball, Vanessa is
Leif:hesitant because she's afraid Jenny will find out.
Leif:However, Nate is all about what's in front of him
Leif:right here, right now.
Leif:Some rando snaps a photo of them making out
Leif:and a little too late, Vanessa points out that they're a Gotham girl
Leif:country.
Steve:Yeah, Vanessa sucks, you
Steve:know that you're being shitty like at this point, you
Steve:know, and because like she's even like, what if Jenny did
Steve:know? And he's like, well, I wouldn't really care. Okay,
Steve:then maybe now you tell him.
Leif:Also, you're not going to like this, but fuck Nate for being
Leif:hypocritical as always. But because he's submuted, he
Leif:skates by. But he said, I don't want to
Leif:get between two friends.
Steve:Oh, well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:M. That's never happened before.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:I felt like the whole. How the whole series started.
Steve:Well, I mean, maybe that's why he doesn't want to get between
Steve:two friends, you know, because he got between two friends.
Leif:No, but he says I, I would never do that.
Steve:Oh. Oh, yeah, that's what he said. True, true. He does.
Steve:He does. Again. I would never do that again.
Leif:Back at the Loft, Penelope is still obsessed
Leif:with Nate as well is and is
Leif:trying to get Jenny to spill the tea. However,
Leif:Gossip Girl is first of them off the mark and gets a
Leif:blast with a And they both get a glass blast with a
Leif:photo of Nate and Razor snogging.
Steve:Yeah. Penelope is so
Steve:thirsty, especially for Nate. But
Steve:she, has just been. The Minions have just been
Steve:thirsty.
Leif:Yeah. All season.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:And again, I have to say, how big of bitches are
Leif:they? They can't get boyfriends at all.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. Well, although Hazel got
Steve:one in this episode specifically to
Steve:work low heights for her, so. They
Steve:can. But they have. But. But it's not the
Steve:people that they would be interested in because they're such
Steve:shitty people. The
Steve:AV guy working the spotlight is a
Steve:chore.
Leif:Sorry, ladies. For those of you hoping to find Nate
Leif:Archibald under your tree, it looks like he's already picked
Leif:up his mistletoe mate
Leif:into Act 2. Back outside the school,
Leif:Lily and Bart are talking. Bart claims he
Leif:has already fired Andrew Tyler and will do anything
Leif:Willie wants to save the marriage. Big words,
Leif:Bart. If only I believed you. Yeah, well, he doesn't
Leif:either.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And.
Steve:And so at, When he's saying all of this
Steve:instantly. And I know that this comes up later, but
Steve:my first watch, my thought was, what about the
Steve:sanatorium report that he asked for? You know,
Steve:he. Yeah, you know, the thing about the
Steve:sanatorium. m. Mr. Bass, nobody says
Steve:that anymore, but, you know, we knew that he asked
Steve:for that information. Although later, we do
Steve:see that he may have rescinded that.
Leif:At the gallery, Aaron and Serena are discussing
Leif:Lexi. Meanwhile, Dan and Lexi are flirting in the
Leif:other room. Serena agrees to give Lexi a
Leif:chance, and Aaron takes her to the dance, to which
Leif:he reluctantly agrees. Gotta bribe your boyfriend to
Leif:take you on a date.
Steve:Yeah, well, I mean, I. Again, he probably doesn't really
Steve:feel comfortable going back to high schools
Steve:anymore.
Leif:Well, if you're gonna date high school girl, you gotta go high school
Leif:event.
Steve:Yeah, I know. And, like, her, like, emotional
Steve:manipulation of. Of that situation, which, like.
Steve:I'm not blaming Serena. She's the child here.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:I'm blaming the adult who is like, oh,
Steve:I'm too cool to go to your high school dance. It's like, because he's
Steve:not in high school, but, like.
Steve:Yeah, I also, I just
Steve:thought that Lexi was so obnoxious.
Steve:Is this where. Where she's, like, talking about the coffee
Steve:today? And it's like. Like, oh, yeah. Do you have
Steve:this rare coffee from, like,
Steve:Indonesia that no one else would have?
Leif:Like, no, that's actually a really. That's a. That was, like, a thing.
Steve:Oh, is it? Oh, I didn't.
Leif:Especially around that time. Yeah.
Steve:Okay. I didn't I was not aware it's.
Leif:Really expensive, but it's okay. A high end coffee because
Leif:that, that.
Steve:Because I, because like, I like coffee. Like, I, I. Okay. I did
Steve:not know that was an actual thing. I thought it was some kind of
Steve:bullshit, but still it's like some kind of
Steve:bullshit. Like, it is a. It
Steve:felt like, I'm gonna order something knowing you don't have it
Steve:so I can shame your little shop for not having it.
Steve:That's how that moment felt.
Leif:yeah. It's definitely like a hipster thing.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And. Yeah, but that, that, that's why she's kind of perfect. They're,
Leif:they're all, you know, all of them are kind of perfect.
Steve:Yeah, they, it's too perfect.
Leif:Dan and Lexi walk in and Lexi announces they're all
Leif:going to hang out together. Have these people
Leif:never watched a sitcom? There's no way this can possibly
Leif:end well.
Steve:Yeah, there's. Yeah. Yeah. What were you thinking?
Leif:Vanessa shows up the loft like nothing's
Leif:wrong. While Jenny is fighting back tears and lays
Leif:into Vanessa for letting Jenny humiliate herself
Leif:all week. Vanessa announces that she's going
Leif:to accept Nate's invitation to the ball. She
Leif:walked away all high and mighty, but little Jay
Leif:was staring daggers into her back.
Steve:Yeah, I thought both of them were great here. Yeah.
Steve:I felt like this was a really great interaction.
Leif:Very well acted.
Steve:Yeah. Very well acted scene there.
Leif:I,
Steve:You know, you really got both these.
Steve:And both of them have been done
Steve:shitty things. And what Jenny did wasn't that
Steve:shitty. Right. She kissed a guy without telling Vanessa
Steve:about it. It was shitty to do to your friend,
Steve:but like, it could have been a lot shittier.
Steve:Vanessa took the fucking letter and let both of
Steve:these.
Leif:They like, Vanessa dated them, for like two weeks and they, they
Leif:haven't been talking for a month.
Steve:well, yeah. And it was like she kissed her ex. Her like,
Steve:pseudo ex. Yeah. And without even knowing
Steve:there that like why they broke up or why they split.
Steve:Jenny really didn't do much here. And
Steve:meanwhile, Vanessa literally got between the
Steve:two of them and lied to both of them by taking
Steve:that letter.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:What I did keep in the back of my head throughout all of this.
Steve:Well, I'll get to that later. It was just like I. They
Steve:both had these, like. It was a great
Steve:argument. It was great tension and great conflict
Steve:and really well acted by both the. Both the
Steve:actors.
Leif:Chuck is waiting at Blair's piano as she arrives
Leif:home. They make another bet, this time to
Leif:see which one can choose a better date for the Other
Leif:they treat the rota like property of commiserate
Leif:value. With a limo.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, they bet. Dorota.
Leif:Not a good look.
Steve:Not a good look. I'm also
Steve:curious as to whether or not Ed was really playing the piano,
Steve:because I know that he does do music, so I wonder if
Steve:he can actually play the piano.
Leif:It didn't look like his hands were moving.
Steve:No, but you also only saw from here up,
Steve:which. Which on the light melody he's playing,
Steve:you may not see a whole lot.
Leif:I doubt he was playing.
Steve:I do, too.
Leif:But in canon, Chuck apparently plays
Leif:piano.
Steve:Yeah. Which I do love that. Which it's such a Chuck thing to
Steve:have in his back pocket. Do we ever see him do that
Steve:again?
Leif:Not, that I'm aware of.
Leif:The piano is always there.
Leif:Blair's.
Steve:Yeah. So it's been there the whole time, right? Yeah.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And other things might happen on that piano.
Steve:Oh, I can imagine. They're all gonna fuck on that piano.
Steve:Someone is. Or they all are. Maybe all at the same
Steve:time. I don't know. Bunch of blankets on the piano.
Leif:Yeah. We shift back to the
Leif:tried and true TV trope of, the Double Date.
Leif:Lexi is brash, Dan is shy and naive,
Leif:Serena is snarky, and Aaron is his usual
Leif:slimy self.
Steve:This whole thing is so such a
Steve:trope. Such a trope. But it's also the whole,
Steve:like, oh, yeah, she sleeps with guys on the first
Steve:date. Why are you telling your girlfriend
Steve:this? Like, why are you telling your girlfriend?
Leif:Because he's manipulating her into sleeping with him.
Steve:Well, yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Leif:I mean, there's that. What he's doing that.
Steve:There is that. Which.
Leif:And it worked.
Steve:And.
Leif:Or at least that seemed like it was going to work anyway.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, yeah. He is so
Steve:fucking disgusting. I didn't. I didn't fully
Steve:pick up on that, now that you mention it. It's like, oh, yeah. Like,
Steve:that's so.
Leif:Because. What was her immediate reaction? No. Yeah. Oh, let's. Let's.
Leif:Let's finally do it tonight.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. And it wasn't even
Steve:an immediate reaction because she, like, went home and, like, talked to
Steve:Blair and then so, like. Like, it is just planting
Steve:these seeds without any actual. It's
Steve:grooming. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Leif:Not good.
Steve:No.
Leif:We get a quick scene of Bart shitting on Chuck.
Leif:So. More. More. Poor Chuck.
Steve:Yeah. And, like, once again, great
Steve:to everyone but his kid. Like.
Leif:Like, it's like, so obvious where they're trying to make us feel bad
Leif:for Chuck. It's like.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. Yeah. When? Whenever they
Steve:do. Yeah.
Leif:And.
Steve:And I do have to say here, Bart,
Steve:I get why Bart's upset.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:Like it is Chuck's fault that all of this. Yeah.
Steve:Chuck fucked up big time. And up his marriage
Steve:and like.
Leif:And well, I mean, by revealing the
Leif:truth.
Steve:Yes, but to Bart,
Steve:Chuck has taken away the woman he
Steve:loves for the second
Steve:time.
Leif:Yes.
Steve:So like
Steve:there's a part of me that, there's a lot of me that feels for
Steve:Bart because I. As I've said
Steve:over and over, Bart does
Steve:these horrendous things.
Steve:I do believe that they come from a place
Steve:that he thinks is good.
Leif:Yeah, I agree.
Steve:So like I, I always feel for him.
Leif:Except for with Chuck. He's like purposely tried to be mean to Chuck, but.
Steve:Yeah, but when it comes to Chuck, he just drills. He just
Steve:fucking stomps him into the ground.
Leif:I guess it's just a long history of Chuck being a fucking
Leif:shithead.
Steve:Yeah. And I mean like, yeah, he does
Steve:up a lot. And you gotta also figure like how many
Steve:times does he had get Chuck out of. How much money
Steve:has it cost being Chuck Bass's dad?
Steve:How.
Leif:How many libraries has he donated?
Steve:Yeah, how. Yeah, exactly. How many libraries has he donated
Steve:and how many and, and like how many,
Steve:you know, things have he. Has he had to
Steve:sweep under rugs? like how many women has he had? How
Steve:many women's mothers has he had to pay
Steve:off?
Leif:Jenny shows up to deliver the dress for Penelope.
Leif:The mean girls are plotting revenge on Vanessa and convince
Leif:Jenny to help.
Steve:Oh, Little Jay. I mean, and it's such a
Steve:Jenny thing. Like Jenny is hot tempered
Steve:and vindictive. You and I have all often
Steve:said Jenny is one of our favorite characters. Jenny's your favorite
Steve:character? Jenny's in my top three.
Steve:But her biggest flaw is that she
Steve:is angry and vindictive. She will turn
Steve:and she will go. She will burn the
Steve:place down when she's mad and she's
Steve:mad.
Leif:And yeah, I, will get more into when we get there, but I think
Leif:the whole thing was overblown myself. But yeah, we'll get to
Leif:that. Snowflake or
Leif:snowfake. Either way it's going to be a
Leif:ball. Blair and Serena are prepping for the
Leif:ball and discussing seeing your ex with someone
Leif:new. Serena informs Blair that she hasn't slept
Leif:with Aaron yet.
Steve:Blair is fucking amazing in this. Your
Steve:lame outer burrow double date. And the
Steve:other one was, going.
Leif:To take a ride on the lexicoaster.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. Guys really hate
Steve:being surprised by sex.
Steve:I thought she was fantastic. I loved
Steve:her in this scene. And I felt like Blair didn't get
Steve:to really shine a lot in this episode
Steve:because her plot was so tied to,
Steve:you know, it was the Chuck plot and that Chuck
Steve:plot, really.
Leif:It was the C plot.
Steve:Yeah. And. And it was. Yeah, it was very minimal
Steve:throughout the whole thing. I, was. I like
Steve:that she got this really fun. They. They're always. They
Steve:always have such fun.
Leif:And. Yeah, they were actually talking about that on the forums, about how
Leif:the Chuck and Blair plot was minimum. And
Leif:they actually were speculating that because after
Leif:an early episode, they kind of
Leif:went in and, like, there was a bunch of
Leif:press about Chuck and Blair and, like, they. They got
Leif:really popular real fast, like season
Leif:two. But
Leif:then they. They kind of speculate.
Leif:They're kind of backing off. So, like, they don't just dominate the whole
Leif:show.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:That.
Steve:That drags.
Leif:Jenny shows up at the gallery waving the white flag
Leif:to Vanessa. Jenny offers is his dress as
Leif:an olive branch with a claim that she stayed up all night
Leif:making it for Vanessa. Ah.
Steve:Vanessa, you just got a dress
Steve:and you're going to try it on. Are you trying it
Steve:on in a dark room? Like, where are you
Steve:trying on this dress that there is no lighting at
Steve:all? Because. Because Iz was in her
Steve:bedroom under a regular
Steve:light. That's all.
Leif:It's only when there's backlighting because they bench that
Leif:at the end.
Steve:Yeah. I, just don't see how you
Steve:don't notice at all.
Leif:And again, I would wonder what this plot would look
Leif:like if they did it on Max.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:But, yeah, it didn't sell for me because you
Leif:didn't really see anything.
Steve:Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't that
Steve:scandalous. Yeah. Like, it wasn't
Steve:especially like.
Leif:Like today's standard. That's kind of trendy.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. What she was wearing would
Steve:be trendy today. Yeah. People would wear that to the
Steve:Oscars.
Leif:Yeah. Blair and Dorota are trying
Leif:to find Chuck the perfect date. Blair
Leif:Slut Shames poor Kristen Curran. Dorota
Leif:Cl quickly realizes that the girl Blair is looking for is
Leif:just a copy of Blair. But Dorota knows there's only
Leif:one Blair Waldorf.
Steve:Poor Dorota. She's just sitting there with
Steve:her laptop, poring over all of these
Steve:people doing the matchmaking for Blair
Steve:and worrying what.
Leif:Else she might have to polish of Chucks.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Which is really fucking gross.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:So human trafficking, possibly sex
Leif:trafficking. Doretta.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, Blair is like. Yeah, if you're
Steve:lucky, that's all. Like, Blair's the one
Steve:recognizing, like, yeah, this might be a
Steve:bet that I'm.
Leif:Not only that Blair has really shown
Leif:us some growth as without prompting, he calls
Leif:Serena to check in with her regarding him bringing
Leif:Lexi to their school dance. Serena does what
Leif:she thinks is the mature thing to do, and Dan just
Leif:plays along.
Steve:Good on Dan for doing this and,
Steve:And.
Leif:And not right in front of Lexi, like, waiting a little while and, you
Leif:know, give her a call. This is cool with you?
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. Just you and me talking. Good move.
Steve:Yeah. I feel like Dan was really grown
Steve:up most of this episode.
Leif:This is a great episode for both the Humphreys. I thought Humphrey,
Leif:man.
Steve:Yeah, you're right. it was good for both of them.
Leif:In the next scene, we see Serena's insecurities play
Leif:out in real time as she lets Aaron know, she picked
Leif:up a two all night passes to pound
Leif:town, and he's so fucked.
Steve:This is where it's so gross that he's like, oh, yeah,
Steve:okay. Yeah. And just like,
Steve:God, you fucking.
Leif:Well played, sleazeball.
Steve:Yeah, slow game worked for you.
Steve:Sleazeball.
Leif:Yeah, I'm totally positive that he
Leif:reads. He has, the pickup artist on his,
Leif:nightstand.
Steve:Yeah.
Steve:Only. Only. It's the only. It's the Barney from
Steve:how I met your mother version.
Leif:Jenny is helping Vanessa get, dressed, and it looks
Leif:like they both want to confess, but neither is able to
Leif:get their words out before Nate calls Vanessa.
Steve:Yeah, it's funny that.
Leif:More good acting, like, Because you can see, like, they both kind of wanted
Leif:to say what they did, but neither could
Leif:really get it out.
Steve:Yeah. And it's funny because had.
Steve:Had Vanessa actually gotten it
Steve:out, then what? Then Jenny would have been
Steve:like, the. And she
Steve:would have been all the more resolved to go through with
Steve:it. Jenny never learned, did Jenny? Yeah,
Steve:she did. Tell her. Yeah, she does.
Leif:Nate told her.
Steve:That's right. Yeah.
Leif:Lily is calling Blair's office, and Bart's
Leif:secretary spills the beans about Bart meeting with Andrew
Leif:Tyler. We're secretary. this
Leif:episode, there's some really bad secretaries.
Leif:This. In the show.
Steve:I mean, this. Yeah, I was gonna say this series, the
Steve:secretaries are not going to.
Leif:Yeah, they just drop. Drop all the knowledge.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Lily sleeps around and finds out more evidence against
Leif:Bart and decides to go to the ball on her own.
Steve:Imagine if this is like, a White House drama and they're like, oh,
Steve:the president, he's in the war room right now discussing,
Steve:like, we go into Act.
Leif:3, we get a needle drop. As the third act
Leif:begins with the ball in full swing. LP and the mean
Leif:girls are reviewing the plan to humiliate Vanessa.
Steve:Yeah, this is where we learn that Hazel is now dating
Steve:the spotlight guy. For access to a
Steve:spotlight.
Leif:I've noticed the show likes every couple episodes. They. They
Leif:do, they feature a band because there was like three
Leif:songs by this band. The Asteroid
Leif:Galaxy Tour.
Steve:Okay.
Leif:And this was one of them. The Sun Ain't Shining no More.
Leif:Blair and Chuck flirt as they introduce each
Leif:other to their respective doppelgangers. However,
Leif:Blair pulls Chuck aside and leaves their twins
Leif:to their own devices.
Steve:Yeah, the teemu. Chuck and Blair come in
Steve:and.
Leif:And also for that, that last scene, we had another stunt cast. The
Leif:other wasn't really as obvious as Time Play. It was,
Leif:Natasha Lucan, who's a multiple,
Leif:Olympic champion.
Steve:Oh, no kidding. That was, that, was that Blair? Was that
Steve:the.
Leif:She was like a student at the dance.
Steve:Oh, that's crazy that
Steve:she's she's just. Yeah. yeah. Famous enough to
Steve:make it on the background.
Leif:She could. She knew someone that could get her on.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Elsewhere, Dan is with Lexi and Serena with Aaron as
Leif:they all twirl around on the dance floor. Let's see.
Leif:Lexi lets slip that Serena and Aaron are going to sleep
Leif:together for the first time. Dan tries to
Leif:play cool. It was also at this point
Leif:I started to wonder, how old is Lexi?
Steve:Yeah, well, Lexi is. His is
Steve:Aaron's ex.
Leif:Presumably it's around the same age.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Let us, let us not be called out for the double standard.
Steve:No. Yeah. Like, is Lousy also a predator
Steve:here? Like she. Yeah, I actually meant to. I
Steve:actually did have that thought.
Leif:Like, like forces her into, into a date at the
Leif:school dance where her plan is to this. This teenager.
Steve:To fuck this teenager. And now
Steve:once again, through that same lens, why would she
Steve:tell Dan? But here it is. Like, there it is.
Leif:Aren't they working together?
Steve:Yeah, yeah. It's like, hey, I want to. Hey, I'm going to. I want to try
Steve:to hit this girl. Hit this, you know,
Steve:socialite. Do you mind hitting her boyfriend?
Leif:make her jealous.
Steve:Yeah, to make her jealous. Like, yeah, sure,
Steve:but only if it's the first date.
Steve:Yeah, but like, yeah. And that just makes
Steve:it all come because I was like, why would you
Steve:tell this guy? But, yeah, to let him know. Like, yeah, it's
Steve:safe. You've got the Greene light. Now you can also sleep with an
Steve:older person.
Leif:Blair and Chuck bicker for a bit. But the, but the
Leif:bet is still on?
Steve:yeah.
Leif:Pretty nothing scene.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:But yeah, spark, sparks, blind.
Steve:Yeah, I mean Blair and Blair and Chuck are great
Steve:in every scene they do. Even. Even with
Steve:nothing. Even when nothing goes forward.
Leif:The Rufus and Lily spot each other across the
Leif:room and are drawn to each other like a pair of opposed
Leif:magnets. Lily tells Rufus she is leaving bar
Leif:and she doesn't expect anything except maybe a
Leif:dance, which of course Rufus grants her.
Steve:She was fucking
Steve:spectacular in this scene. I loved
Steve:Kelly Rutherford, the way her
Steve:facial expressions, the way she approaches
Steve:Rufus. I did have the note of. Was this
Steve:her shortest marriage, which I don't think it was. I
Steve:got the impression that there may have been one that was shorter.
Leif:One of the Klaus's.
Steve:One of the Klaus's I think was shorter.
Leif:So normally I don't watch the closed caption thing, but I had it on for this
Leif:episode. I tried to catch the line from earlier that I couldn't hear what you.
Leif:They were saying. So they also like play the lyrics of the songs
Leif:and closed captions while in the middle of the talking
Leif:it pops up. I kissed you. I was like, wait, why did Lily kiss? And
Leif:that's music.
Steve:Yeah, I noticed that too.
Leif:And then of course when they danced. So this was the song was
Leif:a. It was called Breakdown by the band Dear
Leif:Heart. And when they were dancing the lyrics
Leif:were, well, I like you, you like
Leif:me. Seems that we fit so
Leif:perfectly. You make me feel worthy and
Leif:I've let you take care of me. Yeah,
Leif:very good needle drop there.
Steve:And honestly when I was watching that and I.
Steve:Because I always watch the captions on, I watch everything with the
Steve:captions on and I noticed the lyrics
Steve:playing out the way that the scene
Steve:did and it was very sweet and it was
Steve:very. And ah, like I said, the look on her
Steve:face, how nervous she was to approach Rufus.
Steve:Her gestures, her eye contact
Steve:and then breaking it. Everything in that
Steve:scene and I just was like, I wanted. I was like,
Steve:I'll dance with you, Lily. Like okay.
Leif:Dan and Serena catch each other watching Aaron and Alexi
Leif:dance with each other and decide to share a dance of
Leif:their own. Dan and Serena have a flippant conversation about them
Leif:both sleeping with their respective dates for the first time.
Leif:Serena walks off and Dan goes with Lexi to
Leif:grab drinks.
Steve:I am going to miss her
Steve:so much when she's gone.
Steve:I loved her reaction.
Steve:I love, love, love that.
Leif:Oh yeah. Because yeah, she reacts to her,
Leif:Lexi telling dad, yeah. And then Dad's
Leif:like, yeah, sex is beautiful. Especially when you haven't
Leif:had it for A while.
Steve:Which.
Steve:That was so, like, it was so good.
Leif:But it was such a teenage guy thing to say. Yeah.
Steve:But it was also.
Leif:I could totally see myself saying that. Yeah.
Steve:100. But it was also, you know,
Steve:Awkward Dan rambling once this was
Steve:playing out. And, you know, because it
Steve:was that rambling awkward Dan that
Steve:we get sometimes. And it
Steve:was funny and you could tell that he was
Steve:joking. But also, it was very flippant.
Steve:Yeah, it was very flippant and
Steve:probably not good timing, but I think
Steve:that it really. But it also sets up
Steve:a great moment later.
Leif:Vanessa tells Jenny that she is going to break up with
Leif:Nate. Vanessa walks off to do just
Leif:that. Jenny goes, to try to cover up
Leif:Vanessa, but too late. As the Negroes spring to
Leif:their trap to catch Vanessa in the spotlight,
Leif:Nate sees that Jenny was involved in the takedown. looks
Leif:disgusting.
Steve:So I really liked
Steve:the scene leading up to this. In this scene, I thought Jessica
Steve:was really good. Yeah.
Leif:Where she confessed. Confessing.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, yeah. She. I really liked
Steve:her in this a lot. I
Steve:thought that the reveal,
Steve:like, you were. You were. You were alluding to this earlier. The reveal
Steve:did not really reveal much. And it's not like I'm sitting here saying,
Steve:like, oh, show me more. I'm just saying, like, for
Steve:it to be the scandal that they're portraying,
Steve:it.
Leif:Didn'T seem people were laughing,
Leif:but maybe they could have had someone say, like, oh, look at her granny
Leif:panties.
Steve:Yeah. Like there could have been anything to really make
Steve:it something embarrassing.
Leif:You, look great, Jessica.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And all you can really see was her legs and a little bit of her panty line.
Steve:Yeah. And she looked great. The other side of that
Steve:same. The. Despite the reveal. And of course, I
Steve:feel like a lot of that is CW in
Steve:08. You know, like, they
Steve:didn't have today's standards.
Leif:Again, what would have been on Max would
Leif:like, you see, like, everything.
Steve:Well, you probably would have seen at least her nipples. Like,
Steve:her underwear. Yeah. You would have seen a lot more. Yeah.
Steve:She probably wouldn't have had a bra on.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:And you probably would have seen a lot more. Like, if it was
Steve:like, on Max or something like that probably would.
Leif:Have shown from the back with a thong.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. Like, it probably would have been, like, really,
Steve:like, revealing the flip side of this.
Steve:I thought a lot of the
Steve:characters are our main
Steve:characters reactions were
Steve:really good. Nate's reaction
Steve:of seeing it unfold and then looking at.
Leif:They definitely the writing and the acting sold it as being
Leif:humiliating.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Even though I didn't really get it personally.
Steve:Yeah, that's.
Leif:I'm gonna. I'm just gonna go with what the show is telling me.
Steve:That's exactly where I landed with it. That, like,
Steve:okay, I'm going to accept that Jenny
Steve:is a good designer, Dan is a good writer, and
Steve:Vanessa is embarrassed right now. Yes.
Leif:This is the most horrible prank ever.
Steve:Yeah. This is a terrible thing that Jenny has just
Steve:done. But I did think the acting and
Steve:directing really and writing
Steve:saved a lot of it. Saved for the actual
Steve:review.
Leif:Poor Vanessa. Even Cinderella was given
Leif:the courtesy of a stealth getaway. Then
Leif:again, what's a trio of ugly stepsisters compared
Leif:to Jenny Humphrey? Looks like it might turn out to be an
Leif:unhappily ever after for everyone.
Leif:Go into the epilogue, Nate
Leif:confronts Jenny about the scheme to mess with Vanessa,
Leif:who reveals the stolen letter and really lays into
Leif:Jenny.
Steve:Nate not tolerating bullying like, I give him. I
Steve:give him that. I thought he was a little hard.
Leif:Stole letter just seems so much worse to me.
Steve:me too. I. I really thought that, too. I thought the
Steve:stolen letter was worse. I also kept in
Steve:the back of my head that Chase
Steve:wanted this. That Chase Crawford wasn't
Steve:comfortable. We had talked before about Chase Crawford wasn't
Steve:comfortable with the relationship with the
Steve:15 year or 14 year old. Yeah, 14
Steve:year old at this point. And I could see him
Steve:being like, we need to work this for that to
Steve:be the relationship and not the Jenny thing. So with
Steve:that in mind, I get it. But also, I
Steve:do think that stealing the letter is so much worse.
Steve:But it's also so Nate to be like,
Steve:oh, that's the one I want now.
Leif:And this is probably giving Nate too much
Leif:credit. But also, Vanessa is just
Leif:easier because he doesn't have to deal with the Dan situation. Like,
Leif:he could still be friends with dad if he's dating Vanessa.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, there's that, too. Jenny
Steve:is more. Jenny was a, m. More complicated
Steve:relationship.
Leif:Chuck and Blair find their dates making out with each
Leif:other. Blair is disgusted. Disgusted that even their
Leif:doppelgangers can work it out, but her and Chuck can't.
Steve:My note here is obviously,
Steve:like, obviously, these two are going to end up
Steve:together.
Leif:They left them alone.
Steve:The second they left them alone, it's like, oh, yeah, they're gonna make
Steve:out.
Leif:Yeah. This. This episode is filled with tropes.
Steve:Yeah. I mean, Gossip Girl is a tropey show.
Steve:It throws them in. It often will try
Steve:to play with the tropes or flip the tropes.
Leif:But I think, like, the weaker episodes are the ones
Leif:where they just rely on the tropes. Where they rely on it.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:That's why the date episode from
Leif:season one.
Steve:Yeah. That I liked and you hated.
Leif:Lily is telling Rufus that she doesn't want to hurt Bart,
Leif:but that she has to end it. Rufus admits to regretting
Leif:letting her go. On the wedding day, Chuck spots Rufus and
Leif:Lily sitting together.
Steve:When she's like, I've always tried to
Steve:do the right thing. The patience in
Steve:Rufus is behind his eyes. I'm
Steve:like, oh, really?
Leif:You try not to laugh.
Steve:Yeah. You've always tried to do the right thing.
Leif:Is that, Is that the case?
Steve:Yeah. Oh. When you left me for money, that was
Steve:the right.
Leif:That was.
Steve:That was the right thing, Right? Yeah.
Leif:You could see why Lily's been married as many times.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Bart is riding in a limo with Andrew Tyler, who
Leif:has found out Lily's secret. Before we
Leif:can get the reveal, Chuck calls Bart and tells him about
Leif:Lillian. Rufus.
Steve:Yeah. And this is where we realized that.
Steve:That, That he really
Steve:did fire the guy. So it was like, oh,
Steve:okay, he did. He did fire him. But this guy clearly
Steve:has something with that one.
Leif:Chuck finds Lily and lets her know that Bart
Leif:is on his way. I like this
Leif:scene.
Steve:I thought, Chuck was super mature here, and.
Steve:And I. I really liked. Chuck was not
Steve:malicious or vindictive. And Chuck really
Steve:seemed to have a. I get it. Like.
Steve:Yeah. Like, I. Because Chuck kind of
Steve:knows his role in this thing at this point, you know? So
Steve:I really felt like he was very mature here and
Steve:very accepting of the situation.
Steve:but. And he was right. You owe him a
Steve:conversation. You know, you always. You
Steve:know.
Leif:But I just like the. I like the chemistry between,
Leif:Ed and.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Between Charles
Steve:and Lillian and Lily.
Leif:Lillian.
Steve:Lillian and Charles.
Leif:Lillian Rhodes, Vanderwitz and Bess.
Steve:Imagine if she just tacked on that name each
Steve:time. The new name instead of getting rid of the
Steve:old one.
Leif:Yeah. Nate catches up with
Leif:Vanessa and tells her he still wants to be with
Leif:her.
Steve:So this is the. This is where we
Steve:freaked out, because Vanessa, apparently.
Steve:I. I'm pretty sure it was tears, but it looks like she has a
Steve:big snot running down her face, and
Steve:he moves in and kisses her. And Robin's like. She.
Steve:Eddie's like, you better not kiss her with that snot on her face.
Steve:And then he does, and the two of us were like.
Steve:That was the moment that we were both like,
Steve:ew.
Steve:Snot face.
Steve:You're so sweet for kissing her with that snot face, Nate.
Leif:Yummy. Jenny watches as Nate and
Leif:Vanessa get into a cab together. Then
Leif:Penelope and her posse roll up and threaten
Leif:Jenny. But little J doesn't fuck around. And these
Leif:bitches are about to find out.
Steve:I loved Jenny here.
Leif:I loved her growth.
Steve:I loved how she stood up for Vanessa.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:And, for a second when she's like, your little friend, I thought she was going to be
Steve:like, she's not my fucking friend. Like, but she
Steve:didn't. She was like, she's more of a
Steve:person than you'll ever be. And it
Steve:sounds like Jenny might be
Steve:re. Enrolling in Constance. I,
Steve:guess, or at least wants to be
Steve:around them more.
Leif:Maybe she can hang out with Aaron, wait for them to get out of school.
Leif:100ft away from the school.
Steve:100Ft away from the school.
Steve:That's a really bad idea for Serena because you don't
Steve:want him then going for the 14 year old.
Steve:Hey, you like licorice?
Leif:Are a little licorice, Rick?
Steve:yeah. Oh, Aaron, are you still on this
Steve:show?
Leif:Maybe he's here to stay. I mean, he is Cyrus's, I mean, I guess
Leif:he's like Blair's stepbrother now.
Steve:Give me more Cyrus. No. Do you know
Steve:what? Not enough. Yeah, there's not
Steve:enough Siren.
Leif:Too much Aaron. Not enough, sir.
Steve:Too much Aaron. Not enough Siren.
Leif:But I mean, he is gonna be player's stepfather, so
Leif:he might. Is he here to stay?
Steve:Oh, God, I hope not. He can. There's. There's a whole
Steve:world. He can travel.
Leif:He was a major character in the books.
Steve:Oh, God.
Leif:He was Player. Step further in the book. Yeah.
Steve:was he 40 in the books? Was he in his mid-30s in the
Steve:books?
Leif:I actually never got to the. Because he shows up in like the second
Leif:book, I think.
Steve:Okay.
Leif:and I only read the first one. It is pretty
Leif:bad.
Steve:Yeah. How long are they,
Steve:period? It's kind of what I would
Steve:figure.
Leif:Yeah. Chuck asked Blair to dance.
Leif:Blair, acts tough, but lets him out with a little smile
Leif:when Chuck isn't looking. Yeah, Leighton's
Leif:acting like just. Just the
Leif:slightest bit of a smile.
Steve:Yeah, they're cute. They're. They were very
Steve:cute. and yeah, I really liked it.
Leif:Lily gets a call from a restricted number and
Leif:a disturbed look on her face. We get
Leif:to reveal, obviously, a couple scenes later.
Steve:But yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:She gets the news in bars, in an accident, obviously.
Leif:Dan is trying to avoid being alone with
Leif:Lexi when Serena rushes up and to ask to speak with
Leif:Dan alone for a second. Serena apologizes
Leif:for before, but Dan lets Her know it's
Leif:unnecessary. However, they don't get a chance to rejoin
Leif:their dates because Lily rushes up looking for Chuck
Leif:to let him know that Bart has been in an accident.
Steve:Yeah. I, ah, really liked the
Steve:chemistry with Dan and Serena. I thought they were very
Steve:sweet. Dan doesn't really want to bang Lexi
Steve:like he does.
Steve:Sex is meeting Dan. It always
Steve:has been. And so I
Steve:really liked that.
Leif:And also I guess we get to reveal that even though he was hooking up with a bunch of
Leif:girls, he actually didn't sleep with anyone.
Steve:Yeah. And we also get the reveal that
Steve:they only slept together once, which I got the impression it was more than
Steve:that. He said that was the best night
Steve:of my life. Unless he's just referring to the first time.
Leif:Yeah, I don't think there's any confirmation either way
Leif:on that.
Steve:Yeah, Yeah. I really liked how that played
Steve:out. and then I have a big wa.
Steve:And then, upon second watching, we realized
Steve:that Bart Bass cockblocked
Steve:everybody. He cockblocked
Steve:everybody on this show. Dan and
Steve:Serena. Nope. Because. Or Aaron and
Steve:Serena. Nope. Because of that. Dan was already
Steve:iffy. So now he's going to be there with
Steve:Rufus and them. He blocked Rufus
Steve:and Lily. He blocked Blair and.
Steve:And Chuck. He just blanket cock
Steve:block. okay. Vanessa and Nate are the
Steve:ones that he did not.
Leif:But they're gonna just go off a bang.
Steve:Yeah, they're just.
Leif:But yeah, that is the episode. And yeah.
Leif:So,
Leif:it's pretty obvious, I guess at this point that Bart's
Leif:dead.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:So tragedy can either
Leif:bring relationships closer or it can push him
Leif:apart.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Who's going to get closer and who's going to get pushed apart?
Steve:I think it'll be weird for Dan and Serena
Steve:and Rufus and Lily to get closer at
Steve:the same time, but I feel like
Steve:it's lining that up.
Steve:Whereas it'll push Chuck
Steve:and Blair away.
Leif:Right when they were. Seemed like they were finally gonna figure out their
Leif:shit.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, it seemed like that, it looks like that's gonna
Steve:get pushed away and Blair is going to want
Steve:to be there for Chuck and Chuck is not gonna want anyone to be
Steve:there for him. I can see Chuck becoming.
Steve:I don't see Chuck becoming inconsolable.
Steve:I see Chuck becoming for one. Chuck
Steve:just became a multi billionaire. Like
Steve:so, like I can see this. Yeah. The guy he's
Steve:always tried to impress and the last words he said to him was
Steve:that he was disappointment. I feel for Chuck already
Steve:on this. I think that Lillian
Steve:Rufus will
Steve:come together out of this because I feel Like
Steve:Lily's going to need someone there. I feel like it's going
Steve:to put a pin in there
Steve:romantic relationship. But I feel like
Steve:this is where Rufus is going to be there for Lily
Steve:because she has no one
Steve:else.
Leif:What, about Erin and Serena.
Steve:I hope this is done. I hope this is this. I hope this
Steve:is what kills it. I hope that this is what
Steve:makes Aaron be like, hey, we were supposed
Steve:to bang tonight. And she'll be like, my
Steve:stepdad just died. And that, that'll lead to a
Steve:breakup. That's more wishful thinking than anything
Steve:else. It's just as likely that she'll be like, I'm so sad. My stepdad
Steve:just died. Bang me.
Leif:I mean, step that she clearly didn't.
Steve:Care about that she didn't care much about the stepdad.
Steve:But that kind of thing is jarring anyway. Like
Steve:your mom is now going through some shit. Yeah, it
Steve:still fucks with your head.
Leif:I was being flippant like Dan.
Leif:So let's go ahead and get into some segments. This week
Leif:in Fandom. We hooked it, hopped into the Wayback
Leif:Machine and went to the 2008 television,
Leif:without pity forums. Hello, there
Leif:Peabody here. And this is the Wayback Machine
Leif:for traveling through time. And this is my boy,
Leif:Sherman. Speak, Sherman.
Steve:Hello.
Leif:Good boy. They are very talkative.
Leif:One person has said, Josh Schwartz's balls are the best
Leif:raising.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Aaron and Serena need to be over.
Steve:Yep.
Leif:And everyone, was like disagreeing with Blair. Calling him
Leif:hot.
Steve:Yeah, I, yeah, he. She did. Blair. I. I
Steve:actually didn't write it down so I didn't remember to talk about
Steve:it, but had a 180 almost with Aaron
Steve:this week. That she was much more like. Well, yeah,
Steve:like you are. You know what I mean? Like she wasn't.
Steve:She doesn't. She didn't like Aaron previously.
Leif:Why they. The main thing that she didn't like was the whole
Leif:polyamorous thing because she knew that wouldn't work for Serena.
Leif:She. She knew it wouldn't work for her.
Steve:I also think that Blair will never like anyone Serena's
Steve:with. True.
Leif:And then they were confused on why. Why Vanessa
Leif:was so, embarrassed when nothing was really shown. So.
Leif:Yeah, we talked about that a lot as well.
Leif:Also confused at why Nate forgave V for but
Leif:not Jenny. They both felt bad for what they did.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, he was a little harsh on Jenny
Steve:and like I said, I think that that was an,
Steve:a personal Chase Crawford
Steve:thing. More than a. More than
Steve:a writing thing.
Leif:Fans are, over Rufus and Lily, they don't
Leif:hate Bart. Yeah, we've kind of been saying the same thing.
Leif:Bart's not that bad. Except for Chuck. With Chuck.
Steve:yeah, Bart's terrible with Chuck. And Bart does terrible
Steve:things. But. But doesn't warlognize.
Steve:They're terrible. Bart loves
Steve:in the wrong way.
Leif:No one cares about Dan. Serena.
Steve:yeah, I care.
Leif:I mean, clearly the signs are pointing to them getting back
Leif:together.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:But, yeah, no one wants that.
Steve:I want that more than
Steve:anything. I just don't want Aaron.
Steve:Fair Aaron and Vanessa.
Steve:Get them both in Brooklyn.
Leif:Yeah, we'll still see about Brooklyn. Have a move to Queens or
Leif:something.
Steve:Yeah.
Steve:yeah. Get offered something in Paris.
Leif:No one really.
Steve:Ah.
Leif:they really like Jenny standing up to the mean girls. And at
Leif:the end of the episode, big episode for Jenny in general.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, Jenny was great. Jenny's always
Steve:great. It also occurred to me that
Steve:Aaron. They may not survive next summer when Aaron
Steve:goes off to work at the summer camp again
Steve:and starts meeting some new
Steve:12 year old potentials.
Leif:That's my hand cannon now.
Steve:Is that he still works in that summer camp. It has licorice
Steve:rings. You'll be 18
Steve:one day. God, he's disgusting.
Leif:Serena's only 17.
Leif:Didn't wait that long.
Steve:Yep, yep, you'll be legal one day.
Steve:No, no, I know the. I can. I, know the loopholes and
Steve:the laws.
Leif:As long as we're not in California.
Steve:That'S a red flag. If they know how old the age of
Steve:consent is. If they bring it up in a
Steve:conversation, that's a red flag.
Leif:Nate is boring at best, a hypocritical
Leif:douche at worst.
Steve:I get it. I.
Steve:I feel like Nate is. Was the
Steve:golden retriever going for the shiny thing that was in front of
Steve:him. And I. I'm not mad at Nate. I'm
Steve:an eight. Stan. yes, he's hypocritical. But
Steve:they all are at one point or
Steve:another.
Leif:And there's more talk of Ed slumming
Leif:it by being on Gossip Girl.
Leif:He's just such. Such a great actor.
Steve:Really? Yeah. Yeah, he's such a great
Steve:actor. Yell.
Steve:Say something at normal volume and without me
Steve:knowing where you're from. Complete
Steve:a sentence at this vocal
Steve:range.
Leif:I actually meant to bring this up at the top of the episode this
Leif:week on the Gossip Girl subreddit. there
Leif:actually was a big post about Ed Westwick and
Leif:how we shouldn't celebrate his wedding because, you
Leif:know.
Steve:Yeah, I. I actually saw that.
Leif:you didn't see that.
Steve:Yeah, I saw I don't ever read anything
Steve:in the, in the
Steve:Reddit, in the Gossip Girl Reddit, but I'll
Steve:get notifications sometimes. And that one
Steve:popped up and it was that. Yeah, that like
Steve:Ed Westwick very well.
Leif:I was accused by four women.
Steve:Mm
Leif:One was I think unequivocally proven as making it
Leif:up.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And then I think he possibly has alibis
Leif:for one or two others.
Steve:It.
Leif:I haven't looked into all the details so I. But
Leif:yeah, it's not. Definitely not a good
Leif:look.
Steve:Yeah. And where.
Steve:Yeah, there's often the. Where there's smoke, there's
Steve:fire thing and you know,
Steve:it's. I, I don't know one way or
Steve:another, but I.
Leif:It's not a good look.
Steve:But it's not a good look. It's not a good look and
Steve:we will always recognize that here on the non
Steve:judging breakfast spot.
Leif:So let's go ahead and get into some episode
Leif:grades.
Leif:I don't know, this isn't. It was well directed
Leif:and there was some good acting. Kelly
Leif:Taylor, Jessica, you know, they all
Leif:had some very good acting moments. but yeah, the writing
Leif:was kind of weak in this episode
Leif:relying a little too much on the tropes as I mentioned.
Leif:And so yeah, I gave it a B minus.
Steve:That's fair. I actually went B
Steve:plus. I actually broke it down by story,
Steve:by storyline when I was thinking it through.
Steve:The Jenny, Nate, Vanessa
Steve:storyline. Although it didn't really work
Steve:out despite its flaws, I liked
Steve:the storyline. The B storyline
Steve:with Dan and Serena was
Steve:dumb and gross. Like that one I didn't
Steve:really care for. But the other two, like the chair thing
Steve:was predictable, but the Lily thing was awesome. Like I thought that
Steve:Lily and Rufus were fantastic in
Steve:this. I gave the episode a B plus
Steve:overall.
Leif:Okay.
Steve:I, yeah, I, I bumped it a little bit
Steve:because I think, I think mostly because
Steve:of the Lily stuff.
Leif:Fair. Let's go ahead and
Leif:move it to stock watch. Going
Leif:up. I had Rufus because he was
Leif:understanding, he patient, everything he could have asked him to be in
Leif:this episode. He didn't interact with Jenny at all.
Steve:Yep. Yeah.
Leif:Blair and Chuck because I mean even though I think it's
Leif:gonna crash and burn in the next episode, they
Leif:seem to finally kind of get. Figure their shit out here.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, they ended on, on a plus note.
Leif:Yeah. And I gave Dan and Serena both stack up
Leif:because they were, you know, again, they were, they were good exes
Leif:again. And they, you know, they, they had that one flipping
Leif:conversation but then they immediately apologized. To each other.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Who do you have going up?
Steve:All of the same that you had. Rufus, Dan,
Steve:Serena, Chuck, Blair. I also had Nate and
Steve:Vanessa going up for them getting together. Vanessa
Steve:was humiliated, but she got Nate in the end, which Nate
Steve:was. Nate is quite a prize. All the minions
Steve:won. I also had Lily going up
Steve:for leaving Bart,
Steve:you know, and. And having. And being ready to go
Steve:back out on her own. And that is who I
Steve:had going up. Chuck and Blair. I was on
Steve:the fence for whether or not they actually went up, but I was like, it's
Steve:Christmas, though.
Steve:Everybody. Everybody on the brink goes
Steve:up.
Leif:So for me, I. The one that was
Leif:on the fence for me was Vanessa, because like you said,
Leif:she got. She got me in the end, but
Leif:I just got to take the show, you know, based on my voting.
Leif:She would have been going up because the show gave
Leif:so much weight to that scene. I got to give her a
Leif:neutral.
Steve:That's fair. I see the neutral going down.
Leif:Jenny, because obviously she lost this
Leif:episode. We love her.
Steve:She.
Leif:She has some great scenes. Aaron, because he
Leif:continues to be a fucking predator.
Steve:Yeah, I actually forgot.
Leif:And I had, Lily going down because
Leif:she's just being a shitty wife, as usual.
Leif:I, you know, even though she's. The scenes are
Leif:great. She was being a
Leif:shitty wife.
Steve:Yeah. I mean, she's putting.
Leif:He's putting off the conversation and before
Leif:having the conversation with Bart immediately going back to
Leif:Rufus.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, you gotta do.
Leif:You gotta do the conversation bar first, then go to
Leif:Rufus.
Steve:It's fair. It's fair. She was
Steve:angry. You're. You're. It's fair. I get
Steve:it.
Leif:And I also gave Nate a down. Yeah. Because
Leif:you hypocritical about the whole. I
Leif:don't get in between friends. And
Leif:I get. He was hypocritical between forgiving
Leif:Vanessa and not Jenny, even though they both were clearly
Leif:felt bad for what they did.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's fair. That's
Steve:fair.
Leif:Who do you have going down?
Steve:Bart.
Leif:I didn't even think of that, but yeah, that's definitely fair.
Steve:I have Bart, I have Jenny. I'm going to add
Steve:Aaron.
Leif:Personally, I don't like to kick a man while he's down.
Steve:Six feet down.
Leif:Who's after Bart?
Steve:after Bart, I had Jenny. I'm gonna add
Steve:in Aaron. And then the other one I have is the
Steve:Minions.
Leif:Ah.
Steve:Each of them goes down for.
Leif:Do you want to name them individually or just as a
Leif:group?
Steve:Well, Penelope Hazeln is. Yeah, I'll give each of them, a
Steve:down.
Leif:And yeah, let's go ahead and move into
Leif:best outfit.
Steve:But here's the best outfits from the.
Steve:Last episode we see.
Leif:For me it was Blair's red and black
Leif:Jabot dress. It was by Alice and Olivia
Leif:and she had the yellow horseshoe belt.
Steve:She looked like Shazam. When I saw
Steve:that, I was like, why is Blair dressed like Shazam?
Steve:That was my first instinct. But it was, it popped.
Steve:It was it was a really cool outfit, but
Steve:that was. She looked like a superhero.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:At the same time I had Chuck's tux,
Steve:the, the sequence tux.
Steve:I thought that was dope.
Leif:Well, you got anything to plug this week?
Steve:I don't other than my TikTok Instagram
Steve:and that stuff. Steve Marchan M M A
Steve:R C H I O N Feel free
Steve:to follow me and check that stuff
Steve:out. And yeah, I don't really have much else to
Steve:plug.
Leif:I'm going to plug Rings of Power season two. I
Leif:know first season got a lot of shit and it definitely
Leif:has problems and season two still has problems
Leif:and it's basically fan fiction

Leif:13 oh Brother where Bart.
Steve:Thou
Steve:I only saw the oh brother. I didn't read the whole
Steve:thing. Oh, that's so good.
Leif:Yeah. The Max episode description
Leif:reads, a sudden and tragic event
Leif:impacts the lives of everyone.
Steve:Yeah, that. That title is
Steve:so good, too. Oh, brother, Where Art Thou?
Steve:that was based. Was that, the
Steve:Odyssey? The Odyssey, right. Yeah. I was trying to remember if it was the Iliad
Steve:or the Odyssey, but. Yeah, the odd. Yeah, with
Steve:the Cyclops. Yeah.
Leif:And the sirens.
