But the reality is, the how doesn't matter half as much as your belief. And your belief is much harder to obtain and keep alive. It requires daily work and lots of practice. It requires regular introspection and often help from a coach. But the good news is, believing is the only thing standing in the way of your greatest dreams.

Speaker:

back to burning brightly.

Speaker:

Today, we're going to talk about something that is really hard to grasp, unless

Speaker:

you've been doing some life coaching for a while, but I'm excited to teach you

Speaker:

this concept because it really is a game changer when it comes to accomplishing.

Speaker:

Anything you want in life, building a business.

Speaker:

Any goal that you can possibly come up with this concept will

Speaker:

help you get there faster.

Speaker:

So in order to explain it, let me start with one of my favorite analogies.

Speaker:

That I use to help people understand the power of their mind and of coaching.

Speaker:

And of these stories that we tell ourselves.

Speaker:

I like to tell people to think of their brain, like a computer.

Speaker:

Because it really is.

Speaker:

Your brain is a massively powerful machine with an operating system

Speaker:

that runs programs and those programs are thoughts or stories, right?

Speaker:

Sometimes our operating system falls prey to viruses, just like a computer.

Speaker:

And these, we call thought errors.

Speaker:

So when the programs do not function properly, it's because

Speaker:

you have a virus, you have a thought error going on in there.

Speaker:

And if you have ever tried to work on a computer that is old or outdated,

Speaker:

Or chock full of viruses.

Speaker:

You know, it's almost impossible to get anything to function properly.

Speaker:

You can't send an email.

Speaker:

You can't write a document.

Speaker:

is really, really, really hard to get a computer to function.

Speaker:

If it's full of these errors, just like our brain.

Speaker:

So if your life sometimes feels like this feels a little bit broken or really

Speaker:

overwhelming, or like it's falling apart everywhere, then it probably means that

Speaker:

your central processing unit, your CPU.

Speaker:

Is full of thought errors.

Speaker:

venture to say the vast majority of the world does not really truly

Speaker:

understand the power of our mind.

Speaker:

Or the fact that harnessing it is the key to success in

Speaker:

literally every avenue of life.

Speaker:

Every avenue.

Speaker:

Understanding how to harness the power of our mind will help us

Speaker:

succeed in anything we want to do.

Speaker:

But instead of learning more about our mind, what we all want to do

Speaker:

is just figure out the tricks for getting what other people have.

Speaker:

We want to know how that person lost all the weight.

Speaker:

We want to know how they make all that money or how they learned

Speaker:

to stop yelling at their kids or how they keep their house.

Speaker:

So clean.

Speaker:

We think that if we can just find the right book or podcast or training

Speaker:

program or guide, then we'll be able to also do all the things that

Speaker:

we haven't figured out how to do yet that we see other people doing.

Speaker:

So miraculously.

Speaker:

But in reality, the how matters very little.

Speaker:

Here's another metaphor that will help explain it a little bit more.

Speaker:

I want you to think about going on a road trip.

Speaker:

The how that you're looking for is your route, which you need to have a route.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

But you can actually take any number of routes and still get there.

Speaker:

You could go north, you could go south east, you could go west one

Speaker:

might take you a little longer.

Speaker:

What might require a little bit more work, a little bit more gas, but you

Speaker:

will, get there any number of ways.

Speaker:

But your belief or even your lack of belief is effectively your cars engine.

Speaker:

So you can have the best route on planet earth for getting from point a to point Z.

Speaker:

But if you have no engine in your car, you're not going anywhere.

Speaker:

And you're just going to sit and look at that route and just think, gosh, well,

Speaker:

This, one's not working for me.

Speaker:

Let me ask Susie down the street, how she got there.

Speaker:

Maybe her rat will be better for me.

Speaker:

But that one doesn't work either because you have no engine or

Speaker:

your engine is mediocre at best.

Speaker:

That is the power of our mind.

Speaker:

The thoughts that we think about our journey and our destination.

Speaker:

Is what will determine whether or not we get there.

Speaker:

I know that sounds really mysterious and almost too good to be true, like,

Speaker:

because if our success or failure, all depends on our thoughts, then we should

Speaker:

be able to change it and find success.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

And that's exactly true, but we like to think that real best path

Speaker:

for us lies outside of us somehow.

Speaker:

let's use the example of getting in shape or losing weight.

Speaker:

This one's a pretty cut and dry one.

Speaker:

I love using this as an example.

Speaker:

We can get in shape any number of ways we can cut some calories.

Speaker:

We can lift weights, we can do intermittent fasting or

Speaker:

work with a personal trainer.

Speaker:

We can.

Speaker:

many different ways to get to the same destination of losing fat gaining muscle.

Speaker:

But how many thousands, maybe millions, probably millions of people want to

Speaker:

get in shape and never actually do it.

Speaker:

Is it because they don't know how.

Speaker:

No, I don't think so.

Speaker:

I don't think we don't know how to do it.

Speaker:

It's because we lack the belief.

Speaker:

Now consciously we might be telling ourselves, no, I believe I can do it.

Speaker:

I've done it before I can do it again.

Speaker:

But something goes wrong.

Speaker:

There's a thought air coming up for us somewhere.

Speaker:

Maybe it's after we've lost the first five pounds, we start to coast a

Speaker:

little bit, or maybe it's any time.

Speaker:

Potato chips shop at a party, a thought error comes in and

Speaker:

tells us, oh, I deserve that.

Speaker:

And I go binge on potato chips and, and lose all my progress.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

So there is a thought error somewhere that is not allowing us

Speaker:

to get from point a to point Z.

Speaker:

We have to figure out what it is and we have to fix it.

Speaker:

the next time you are wondering.

Speaker:

Exactly how to reach a goal that you're trying to accomplish.

Speaker:

I want you to stop for just a minute.

Speaker:

Stop Googling, stop planning, stop researching, stop asking around.

Speaker:

And just for a second, remind yourself that the, how.

Speaker:

Is to believe.

Speaker:

I know that sounds like a funny sentence, but.

Speaker:

It is truth.

Speaker:

The how to get from here to there is to just believe you can, and

Speaker:

then work on the thoughts that come up that tell you that you can't.

Speaker:

Because it's not enough to just decide to believe one day.

Speaker:

And everything falls into place.

Speaker:

You have to work on it every single day.

Speaker:

And I would argue every hour of every day.

Speaker:

Especially if it's something.

Speaker:

Uh, loss, where you are going to be working on it all day long,

Speaker:

managing those urges, right?

Speaker:

sure that you were eating and exercising the way you'd like to, but even your

Speaker:

business, even if you only work on it a few hours a day, you're going to need

Speaker:

to be working on those thoughts all the time, because those poisonous ones will

Speaker:

try to work their way into your brain.

Speaker:

And they'll just take a backseat back there and start being

Speaker:

the mean girl in your head and telling you how you can't do it.

Speaker:

Meanwhile, you're thinking, well, I just don't have the right path.

Speaker:

I just don't have the right guide or the right course or the right, whatever.

Speaker:

No it's because the mean girl is in the back of your head

Speaker:

telling you that you can't do it.

Speaker:

So watch out for those thought errors, those viruses.

Speaker:

So, what does this sentence mean?

Speaker:

What does the term, the, how is to believe?

Speaker:

What does that mean?

Speaker:

It means that the route you need to take for this goal will present itself.

Speaker:

Once you start driving.

Speaker:

Can you imagine if your apple or Google maps?

Speaker:

Didn't show you how to get there until you actually put the car

Speaker:

in drive and started going.

Speaker:

This is kind of how building a businesses without the belief though,

Speaker:

you're effectively done in the water.

Speaker:

You're just sitting there wondering, well, where do I go?

Speaker:

And how do I get there?

Speaker:

But you can't even take a step forward because you're terrified.

Speaker:

You're petrified.

Speaker:

You don't have the thoughts necessary to move you forward.

Speaker:

You are, on the road without an engine and you're not going to make much progress.

Speaker:

The fact of the matter is, and the truth of it all is that no one knows

Speaker:

the path for you to build a business.

Speaker:

Or to get to any result in your life, except for God.

Speaker:

And I highly recommend asking him where to start on whatever you're working on.

Speaker:

But in reality, no other guide or guru will have the path

Speaker:

that you're supposed to take.

Speaker:

No one will know.

Speaker:

They will know which one they took and they will tell you about

Speaker:

it all the time, because they'll probably try to sell you something.

Speaker:

And they'll say, take the path I took, this is the best way to do it.

Speaker:

It was so simple.

Speaker:

I made six figures in five seconds, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker:

They'll maybe even share their client's paths.

Speaker:

Oh, this was so easy.

Speaker:

She's a mom and she did it.

Speaker:

You can do the same thing.

Speaker:

But I promise you that none of those paths will be yours.

Speaker:

They might look similar, but they're not going to be the same as yours.

Speaker:

Only you will know which one.

Speaker:

Is yours.

Speaker:

And unfortunately, You will only know once you've taken it.

Speaker:

I still don't know the path to get me to making a million dollars.

Speaker:

Cause I haven't done it yet.

Speaker:

But I know the path to get me this far.

Speaker:

So I'm going to keep doing some of the same things and I'm gonna

Speaker:

tweak the things that don't work.

Speaker:

Now I will admit, I will fully admit.

Speaker:

Full transparency here.

Speaker:

This is one of my greatest struggles.

Speaker:

I am a great learner and I love, love, love to read and absorb information.

Speaker:

I'd love to hear how others built success.

Speaker:

But I often struggle to remember that my internal stories, my narrative for my

Speaker:

own life is what determines my success.

Speaker:

Not the path.

Speaker:

I sometimes forget to check my engine, make sure I have gas,

Speaker:

make sure that the oil is fresh.

Speaker:

And instead, I just want to study the map all day long.

Speaker:

But the engine's not getting me anywhere because it's busted down or

Speaker:

it's just working at half capacity.

Speaker:

Cause my brain is not being taken care of.

Speaker:

One of the main reasons that I, that I became a life coach,

Speaker:

because I knew that I needed help.

Speaker:

Making sure that that engine was running smoothly, that my brain

Speaker:

was doing the job it needed to do.

Speaker:

Now, this is actually why there are so many successful life coaches.

Speaker:

It's not because life coaching is so easy to be successful at or

Speaker:

because they're all just so talented.

Speaker:

It's because they all understand the power of their minds.

Speaker:

And those who go on to create these massive businesses and help so many

Speaker:

people and make a bunch of money do so because they have managed their mind

Speaker:

and created the right narrative to get them to where they're trying to go.

Speaker:

Now let's talk for a second.

Speaker:

About how hard it is to believe that you're going to get there.

Speaker:

If you were trying to build something you've never built before, like a,

Speaker:

like a business that doesn't exist yet.

Speaker:

You're going to have a pretty common issue with believing in this

Speaker:

future version of yourself, right?

Speaker:

You're going to look forward and see yourself there making money and being

Speaker:

successful and helping people and having this amazing business that, that

Speaker:

works perfectly around your family.

Speaker:

But because that version of you doesn't exist yet, there's no evidence of it yet.

Speaker:

It's going to be trickier,

Speaker:

for example, when I want to go out and run a 5k race, it requires very little belief

Speaker:

from me because I've done num of them.

Speaker:

And they don't require much training from me at all because

Speaker:

I'm a pretty regular runner.

Speaker:

So do I have to sit and do a lot of thought work about

Speaker:

whether or not I can do a 5k?

Speaker:

No, I don't.

Speaker:

I just go do it.

Speaker:

But building a business is different.

Speaker:

Now.

Speaker:

Again, the businesses I've built so far and the progress I've made so

Speaker:

far also requires very little belief.

Speaker:

I know I can get there cause I already did.

Speaker:

So that evidence is what our brain is looking for in order to believe.

Speaker:

But unfortunately we have to learn to believe without the evidence.

Speaker:

If you want to be.

Speaker:

Uh, super successful six-figure business owner, but you haven't done it yet.

Speaker:

You're going to lack that confidence because there's no evidence yet.

Speaker:

Now Brooke Castillo, the owner of the life coach school reminds

Speaker:

us that they're actually two different kinds of confidence.

Speaker:

Regular confidence comes after the experience and the

Speaker:

competence are developed.

Speaker:

So

Speaker:

So once I've done something in a certain way, I have the confidence.

Speaker:

I can do it again, cause I've already done it once I have the evidence for it.

Speaker:

Self-confidence however, is the other kind.

Speaker:

And self-confidence is the belief that regardless of what we're trying

Speaker:

to do, we have the power to do it because we are amazing capable people.

Speaker:

We don't have to have the evidence that we can do this particular thing,

Speaker:

because we just believe in ourself.

Speaker:

And that one is a little bit harder to grasp.

Speaker:

Our brain has zero evidence.

Speaker:

It looks around and goes.

Speaker:

Yeah, but you haven't done it yet, but you haven't done it yet.

Speaker:

We haven't done it.

Speaker:

And you have to just rationally say, I know brain, I know we

Speaker:

haven't done it, but I know we can.

Speaker:

I have self confidence in my abilities and in God's ability to lead me

Speaker:

there that I know we can do it.

Speaker:

Just sit tight.

Speaker:

Don't be too nervous.

Speaker:

We're getting there.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Now I will say that everyone of us are ready does have some

Speaker:

evidence for self-confidence.

Speaker:

It just might not be in the same realm of things.

Speaker:

So for example, let's say I decided to run a marathon.

Speaker:

I've never done that before, but I have run these five Ks.

Speaker:

So I could remind myself, well, you have evidence that you know

Speaker:

how to run, you know, how to follow a training program and get there.

Speaker:

You did that for the first 5k, whenever that was years ago.

Speaker:

I want you to go into your life and find evidence of things that you have

Speaker:

accomplished well, in the past, when have you done something really hard?

Speaker:

Or something scary or something that others would balk at and think, oh my

Speaker:

gosh, I can't believe you did that.

Speaker:

But to you, it was not a big deal because it was something you loved

Speaker:

something you were really interested in.

Speaker:

Something you worked hard at.

Speaker:

What do people compliment you on?

Speaker:

What is your superpower?

Speaker:

Where have you succeeded where others have not.

Speaker:

That is evidence that you have self-confidence again, it

Speaker:

might not be in the same area.

Speaker:

You might be trying to build a business right now, and you don't have any

Speaker:

experience with that, but you have experienced being an amazing mom.

Speaker:

Or running a PTA.

Speaker:

Or serving at church, you have experienced that.

Speaker:

You can draw that self-confidence from, it's just going to

Speaker:

look a little bit different.

Speaker:

Now, if you struggle to answer any of these questions, like what people

Speaker:

compliment you on or what your superpower is, then I want you to start.

Speaker:

Building some evidence of your power to accomplish things.

Speaker:

Go try something hard, go do something different.

Speaker:

If you're already working on a business, you can start there, but just

Speaker:

start journaling about these little things that, you know, you can do.

Speaker:

Even when they're hard

Speaker:

for So start writing it down, put it in a journal and then

Speaker:

gradually build up from there.

Speaker:

If you are, let's say really good at drinking enough water in the day.

Speaker:

The next, I want you to work on believing that you also have the power to build a

Speaker:

really cool email list, full of people who are interested in what you have to offer.

Speaker:

Or whatever else your next business goal is.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

So use the confidence you have in some areas of life to give you a little

Speaker:

boost into your business area of life.

Speaker:

Even if they have nothing to do with each other, if you can succeed at one

Speaker:

thing, you can succeed at another.

Speaker:

So basically what I'm saying is borrow belief from other areas of your life,

Speaker:

if you need to, but start believing in your ability to do this thing.

Speaker:

Okay, let me share a story with you guys really quickly.

Speaker:

Uh, when I was a young mom, I think I was pregnant with

Speaker:

maybe my second or third baby.

Speaker:

I decided that I was going to look into starting a clothing boutique,

Speaker:

which spoiler alert I didn't end up doing for another about 15 years.

Speaker:

But at that time I thought it was the right time.

Speaker:

And so I learned that I needed a business license and then I

Speaker:

needed to go to a market, uh, fashion market in order to start.

Speaker:

Purchasing things wholesale so that I could sell in my boutique.

Speaker:

The closest fashion market was in Las Vegas.

Speaker:

And so I got a hotel room.

Speaker:

I hopped in my car and I drove to Las Vegas to this massive fashion market.

Speaker:

And if you're not in the industry, you probably don't know that these fashion

Speaker:

markets are ridiculously overwhelming.

Speaker:

Think about your most massive shopping spree.

Speaker:

And multiply it by a hundred.

Speaker:

There are.

Speaker:

Acres and acres of clothing available to purchase wholesale.

Speaker:

Every style under the sun, every color, every size.

Speaker:

It is extremely, extremely.

Speaker:

Overwhelming.

Speaker:

I had no idea what to expect and I went by myself.

Speaker:

I was really excited about this venture.

Speaker:

But I was also terrified.

Speaker:

I had no idea even how to purchase wholesale.

Speaker:

I knew that I was there legally.

Speaker:

Like I signed up and got my license and did everything I needed to do,

Speaker:

but I didn't know how it worked.

Speaker:

And

Speaker:

I didn't know if there was a minimum purchase.

Speaker:

I didn't know how many of each size I would get.

Speaker:

I didn't know when things would be delivered.

Speaker:

I didn't

Speaker:

I just didn't know all the ins and outs of the industry.

Speaker:

And so what did I do?

Speaker:

I wandered the market for two days and spoke to no one.

Speaker:

Not a single human being.

Speaker:

I just wandered around and looked at all the things and thought, gee.

Speaker:

Maybe if I was more courageous, I could ask somebody.

Speaker:

I purchased the wholesale and what to do next.

Speaker:

And you guys I'm ashamed to say I came home from that trip and I did nothing.

Speaker:

To accomplish that dream.

Speaker:

Nothing.

Speaker:

I was too scared.

Speaker:

I didn't bother pulling somebody aside and saying, Hey, can you tell

Speaker:

me how this works or Googling it?

Speaker:

And I'll tell you why, because my brain was already convinced it wouldn't work.

Speaker:

And so I just self-sabotage, I just walked around looking,

Speaker:

wishing being wistful thinking.

Speaker:

Well, maybe if somebody walks up to me and says, aren't you interested, let

Speaker:

me tell you how to get this started.

Speaker:

Isn't that silly, but

Speaker:

but now looking back, understanding how the brain works.

Speaker:

I know exactly why I did that.

Speaker:

It was because I didn't believe I could.

Speaker:

If I had had the belief I would have let hell or high water come between

Speaker:

me and purchasing the things I needed to purchase to start my boutique.

Speaker:

But I just wandered around wishing that I had more courage,

Speaker:

wishing that I had more belief.

Speaker:

Wishing that it was going to work out for me.

Speaker:

And it didn't because I didn't believe it could.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Let this be a lesson to you.

Speaker:

You do not need more business tips.

Speaker:

Those will come in time.

Speaker:

You obviously need to know something about billing visits.

Speaker:

I needed the knowledge of how to purchase the wholesale pieces,

Speaker:

but I had to believe first.

Speaker:

And then I was going to go out and find that knowledge.

Speaker:

It's your mind stopping you?

Speaker:

Not your lack of logistical steps.

Speaker:

It's not because you don't know how how will come once your brain is ready.

Speaker:

So

Speaker:

So if you're ready for some help to turn on that engine of that crazy powerful.

Speaker:

Brain that you have schedule a free call with me.

Speaker:

We'll talk

Speaker:

We'll talk to you next week, friends.

Speaker:

Bye.
