Fraudology is presented by Sardine.
This week, Karisse is joined by her good friend, and fellow fraud-fighter, Robert Capps. Like most online fraud-fighters, Robert fell into the world of fraud and Trust & Safety by accident. When he finished a network security project for a small startup called StubHub in 2008, he was asked to take on a new issue they were experiencing...online fraud and chargebacks.
This was during a time when marketplaces were new, and had to solve fraud attacks and trust & safety issues as they happened. There were few technology solutions, and not as many peers in the space to learn from. But still, 6 years later when Robert moved on, their Trust & Safety department had become "best in class", with several bad actors arrested & serving time.
In this episode, we'll discuss:
- The game-changing solutions Robert helped to create that are now considered standard best practices in the space.
- The power of collaboration, not only internally within your company and externally with peers, but also in working with federal law enforcement to send messages to large crime organizations
- How the lessons Robert learned as a merchant in a fast-paced new business model helped him in his next chapter as the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for NuData, and then the VP of emerging markets for MasterCard. And he vaguely describes what new problem he is working to solve now.
Several topics are covered in this conversation. It can't be missed.
