Get ready, folks! This weekend on Around the House, we’re diving into the delightful world of home aesthetics with the fabulous Wendy Glasester. It’s all about finding that unique style that speaks to you, rather than just replicating the latest trend you saw on Instagram. We’ll unpack how designers like Wendy help homeowners express their individuality, steering clear of cookie-cutter looks that scream ‘I just went to Target!’ (not that there's anything wrong with a good Target run, am I right?). So, if you’ve ever felt lost in the sea of design choices—from rift white oak cabinets that cost a fortune to those trendy black hardware accents—this chat has got you covered. We’ll discuss what it means to truly personalize your space without breaking the bank, and how to avoid those all-too-common pitfalls of chasing the latest fads. If you’re ready to make your home reflect your unique vibe, join us this Saturday for some tips and tricks that might just change your design game.

Speaker A:

Hold on tight.

Speaker A:

We have a great around the house show coming up this weekend.

Speaker A:

Help us out and subscribe on your favorite podcast player.

Speaker B:

In the first hour of the show, Eric G. Chats with Wendy Glasester about how designers help homeowners find their own aesthetic.

Speaker B:

Some designers have their own look, but this is all about designing for the client's style and how to find it.

Speaker C:

I always say that I can tell the styles are probably towards the end when it starts to show up in Target and Home Depot.

Speaker D:

I would say that it's correct.

Speaker C:

You know, 10 years ago everybody was talking about oil rub bronze.

Speaker C:

Oh, that's the new brass or the new chrome or the new brushed nickel or all that stuff.

Speaker C:

And then, you know, all of a sudden now we're into that white oak and black hardware.

Speaker C:

Well, that's kind of run its course.

Speaker D:

Yes.

Speaker D:

You know, and it's hard too because I mean, it was everywhere.

Speaker D:

I would have, you know, young families coming to me building their first home, all excited and they'd bring a stack of pictures that all looked exactly the same.

Speaker D:

And it was all rift white oak, which is three times as much the cost as an alder cabinet.

Speaker D:

And they just could not understand how their cabinet budget could be so high.

Speaker D:

And I just said, well, it's, it's just the variety of wood that you're choosing and you want inset and you want, you know, you're looking at these homes that A, are not in our area.

Speaker D:

B, the wealth index is very different there than it is here.

Speaker D:

And it's just not, it's not apples to apples and it would just make.

Speaker B:

In the second hour, Eric G. John Dudley and Wendy Glaster.

Speaker B:

And they talk about how to design the ultimate man cave or she shed.

Speaker C:

Reading a space that you don't have to compromise on.

Speaker C:

Right.

Speaker C:

That this is my space.

Speaker C:

For John Dudley over there, it's going to be his studio with the instruments and the 2 inch tape player sitting in the corner.

Speaker C:

And he's got exactly where that needs to go.

Speaker C:

Where me it's more of the shop and everything else of what I've got going on and the studio and stuff that we're building now.

Speaker C:

But I think it's healthy to have a space that's your own that you can just kind of go reset to and go enjoy without having to compromise on where everything goes.

Speaker C:

I think it's a hot topic.

Speaker E:

I think it's a blessing and a curse and I think it can cost you a marriage, I'll say that.

Speaker C:

Ooh, I like it.

Speaker D:

John right away.

Speaker E:

I'm just going for the jugular, man.

Speaker E:

I'm all my fault.

Speaker E:

There's no blame there.

Speaker E:

You know, you fall asleep up in the music studio and you wake up at seven when your wife's leaving for work.

Speaker E:

It only lasts for so long before she.

Speaker D:

I'm just saying, come out of the cave occasionally.

Speaker E:

Yeah, that's kind of my point.

Speaker E:

Be careful, right?

Speaker E:

Make it cool, but not too cool.

Speaker D:

I made that mistake too.

Speaker C:

John Dudley.

Speaker B:

Oh, that.

Speaker B:

And more on Saturdays.
