Summary

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by pressure and stress that you desperately needed Heaven's help, but you just couldn't seem to hear anything but silence? When your mind is racing and your stress is high, it is easy to panic and ask, "How do I recognize when God is speaking to me?" If you are terrified that you are missing the very answers you desperately need, don't give up hope! You are in the right place.

In this episode of the Arise, Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson and licensed clinical social worker Wendi Christensen tackle the concept of "grief blindness" and the biological block that keeps us from hearing God. We discuss why being stuck in your "amygdala brain" (the fight, flight, or freeze zone) acts like a wall of static against the Holy Spirit. Learn practical techniques, like box breathing, to drop your cortisol levels and shift your brain back into a receptive state. We also explore the story of Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb and share Wendi’s powerful revelation on a freeway overpass about how God truly sees and values women. Tune in to move from panic to peace and start recognizing God’s quiet, loving signature today!

Episode Takeaways

  • God's Signature is Peace: As Psalm 85:8 teaches, God's signature voice is peace, not panic. He doesn't shout at you; He takes quiet moments to speak.
  • The Biological Block: When you are stressed or grieving, your brain is operating out of the amygdala (fight, flight, or freeze). High cortisol levels create a biological wall of static that shuts down spiritual processing, making it incredibly difficult to hear the quiet whispers of the Spirit.
  • Box Breathing: You can actively drop your cortisol levels using "box breathing" (inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4). Giving your body one minute to calm down gives God the minute He needs to speak to you.
  • The Pen and Paper Method: When you want an answer, write your question at the top of a piece of paper, sit in stillness, and start writing down whatever comes to mind. If the thought leads you to do good, it is from God—don't doubt it!

Reflection Questions

  • When you are waiting for an answer from God, are you usually in a state of peace, or are you operating out of a panicked "fight or flight" mode?
  • Can you relate to Mary Magdalene at the tomb—being so overwhelmed by grief that you didn't recognize the Savior standing right in front of you?
  • Try the "box breathing" technique right now. How does intentionally slowing your breath change the way you feel spiritually?

Tamara K. Anderson:

Have you ever felt overwhelmed and knew you they needed heaven's help and answers, but the pressure was so intense that you just couldn't seem to hear heaven's frequency?

Perhaps you're asking how to recognize when God is speaking to you because your mind is racing, your stress is high, and you're terrified that you're missing the very answers you desperately need. Need. Don't give up hope. You are in the right place.

By the end of today's episode, you will understand how to shift your brain out of protection mode so that your spirit can perceive the subtle, distinct voice of God.

We're going to help you solve feeling, perhaps spiritual deafness, by looking at Mary Magdalene's frantic grief and sorrow at the empty tomb and sharing a powerful revelation on a freeway overpass that forever changed Wendy Christensen's view of how God sees women. We're moving from panic to peace. Stay tuned. Ordinary women, extraordinary faith. When God calls, we say yes.

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Andersen, and joining me today is my wonderful and amazingly wise Wendy Christensen.

She's my co founder of Women warriors of Light and has been a licensed clinical social worker for over 30 years.

So her wisdom is so appreciated when we're tackling a question like this, where we are struggling to recognize God's voice, especially in those panicked moments. So we're going to kick off today by looking at a verse in Psalms that teaches us a profound truth. In Psalm 85.

8, We read, I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace unto his people and to his saints. Notice that God's signature voice is peace, not panic. Now that's so much easier to talk about than it is to implement sometimes, right?

We see the perfect illustration of this example in John chapter 20 where we find Mary Magdalene outside the empty tomb. She had seen angels that morning declaring that he is not there, he is risen. But in her grief, I don't think she fully processed what that meant.

And she didn't know where he was. And so as she lay there sobbing and sorrowing, Jesus approached.

And poor Mary was caught up in such this state of grief that she thought he was the gardener. She didn't even recognize him visually until he called her by name, Mary. And at that moment, her spiritual ears suddenly fly open.

She recognized him not just because she saw him visually, but because she heard the frequency of his voice. She knew it, and it was spoken with such love and tenderness. Sometimes we, like Mary, might be missing the Voice of the Savior.

Because we are in such panic or grief or overwhelm or we simply can't tune into his voice or recognize it. Wendy is now going to dive into this concept of grief blindness and teach us how this is actually a biological block.

Wendi Christensen:

So I've noticed that when I have new clients come in or just clients that have rushed into my office, they're often in their amygdala brain. The amygdala is in the center of your brain, and it's there to keep you safe. It's there to protect you. It's an important thing.

We need to have it in our brain. But when it's constantly going, it increases cortisol, which is a chemical that's helping your body gear up to fight flight or freeze. Right.

So it's gearing up to protect you. Often our brains are there too much, and a lot of us are walking around with high levels of stress, which is high levels of cortisol.

And I think that blocks and makes it difficult for us to really hear the Lord. When you do that, it shuts down all that logical and that spiritual processing that you need in order to just hear the quiet whispers of God.

Because God doesn't yell at you. He doesn't shout at you. He's quiet. He takes the quiet moments in order to speak to you.

And it's often in a whisper through his Holy Ghost or His Holy Spirit that He speaks to you. And so it's really hard if you're always in that danger zone or feeling you have to protect to hear those quiet whispers.

You still can, but it just makes it more difficult.

Tamara K. Anderson:

So, my friends, God does not shout. He takes quiet moments to speak. If your body is stuck in that danger zone, it kind of acts like a wall of static to drop those cortisol levels.

Wendy likes to teach her clients a simple, practical technique called box breathing to shift the brain back into a receptive state.

Wendi Christensen:

So if we take a good deep breath in and through your nose as deeply as you can, and then just kind of a controlled breathing out where you're letting that exhale be a little longer than your inhale. I like to do three of those breaths just to make sure my body is where I need it to be. Another technique I like to use is boxed breathing.

I think a lot of people have heard of that. So a box has four sides to it, so it's easy. Remember four. So you just breathe in for four counts. Like a box.

You breathe in 2, 3, 4, and then hold 2, 3, 4, exhale. 2, 3, 4. And then hold, 2, 3, 4. And box breathing is really good to slow things down for you as well.

So any of those techniques are really good to drop those cortisol levels so that you can start perceiving those really beautiful, subtle, peaceful inputs from the spirit that says, hey, you're going to be okay. I'm here, I'm present. I love you. You are valued. You have worth. Just. It doesn't have to be long. I know. Sometimes we just don't have that much time.

It's okay. It can be a minute. And God can speak to you in a minute if you give Him a minute of your time.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Oh, my friends, doesn't that feel so much better? Once you slow down and breathe, you can actively invite God in and hear him.

Just a simple prayer saying, lord, help me hear and recognize when you are speaking to me today opens the door. And when you invite him in, you need to be prepared to listen, which means bringing a tool to capture the.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Wendi Christensen:

and being prepared. I love Tamara.

Something that you do, that you taught me and I've heard from others that I've tried, is bring a pen and paper, you come prepared, and then you can start writing down different thoughts that you have. And as you write those thoughts down, I feel like it leads to more. Sometimes I'll even go with a question.

I'll write a question at the top of my paper that I'm wanting to know from God. And then I'll go and pray and I'll just sit and listen and I'll listen and whatever comes into my mind, I just start writing it down.

Whether I think it's from him or not, I just start writing it down. And I find that as I do that more and more comes and then I can. And I hear more and more and.

And then I realize as I look back, I'm like, oh, yeah, that was him. Because I think sometimes we question, is that God or not? And I've also learned that if it's good or leading me to good, it's from Him.

Tamara K. Anderson:

I love that. If it leads to good, it is from Him. You don't have to doubt it. You can simply receive and act in confidence.

Wendy experienced a beautiful God voice moment in her heart during a moment of deep reflection and vulnerability when she questioned God while she was driving and asked him if he really saw and valued women.

Wendi Christensen:

I was driving over an overpass on a freeway and I was feeling like, does he even really appreciate us? And all of a sudden I felt this flood. And it really Literally was a flood of love for women.

And it was strong enough that I have never doubted since then his love and passion for women. And just like you used the example of Mary in the Garden Tomb, Christ came to her. He came to her first. And God sent an angel to Mary, right?

And God has many times spoken to women. If you go looking in the Scriptures, you'll find it.

If you start looking for where all the moments where women were important and God spoke to them, I promise you will find them. And the thing that's so beautiful about it is it's these quiet, lovely moments that he speaks to them.

And I have no doubts because of that experience on an. On a freeway, on an overpass, when I was doubting and asking God, do you even see women? Do you recognize us? Do you.

Do you realize how important we are? And he was like, oh, Wendy, you have no idea. Of course I do. They are my most prized possessions and I love them dearly.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Well, my friend, God knows your name. Just as he knew Mary's, just as he saw Wendy driving in the car on the overpass.

And he is ready to whisper to your soul the moment you're not in panic mode.

He can speak to you by filling you with love like he did Wendy on that overpass through a beautiful sunset or a quiet prompt written on a piece of paper. And you can learn to recognize his signature. You just have to slow down and look for it.

To help you drop the static, calm your Amyla, and start logging those beautiful insights from God's spirit. Spirit, we want to give you our free roadmap to Revelation, six Steps to Hearing God in your daily life.

It's a downloadable PDF that we are offering along with our free audio meditation to help you prepare to receive light and revelation.

You will definitely want to check that out if you're stuck in panic mode, because in that meditation, Wendy kind of walks you through calming your mind, picturing the light and inspiration coming down from heaven and into your mind, heart and soul. It will definitely help you tune into God and hear his voice more easily.

Also, check out step two in our roadmap to revelation, finding your divine frequency and practice the stillness spots that we have outlined there. And then be sure to use step four, the record and respond rule, to write down whatever God inspires you act on.

Don't let the adversary tell you it is your own imagination. If it leads to good, it is your Father speaking. So, my friends, God is speaking to you. He loves you. You are his child.

He sees the challenges that you're facing and can help guide you and direct you as you calm your mind. Open that door and let him in. May you feel those whispers and recognize the answers. And until next time, may you arise. Do it God's way. God strong.
