PJ:

Hey, welcome to Friday's episode of the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

You made it through another week.

3

:

Congratulations.

4

:

Yeah.

5

:

Well, I mean, I guess

technically they're still today.

6

:

They're still Friday.

7

:

So you still got to make it all

the way through Friday, but.

8

:

Aside from that you made

it through another week.

9

:

Because congratulations.

10

:

Yeah.

11

:

So that's a, that's something, I guess.

12

:

We've

13

:

Rod: got rain right now.

14

:

That's kind of cool.

15

:

It's supposed to rain forever.

16

:

I don't know about that,

but I'm excited about it.

17

:

I enjoy it.

18

:

It's been fun.

19

:

I have I've really, I mean, I

was, I walked outside with my

20

:

umbrella and it wasn't so bad

that my umbrella was blown away.

21

:

So I enjoyed that.

22

:

I liked the variety of weather here.

23

:

Often it's it's I don't know.

24

:

I don't like it because it gets

the car so dirty so quickly.

25

:

That's one thing I miss about California.

26

:

You could take the car to a carwash.

27

:

It would be clean for like

three or four, six weeks even.

28

:

Do pretty well.

29

:

Uh, but here you can get a

carwash and, and you've got

30

:

about a week on it probably.

31

:

Because even if there, if there's

no rain, you still have a lot of

32

:

debris and dust on the roads, which

picks up on the car pretty quickly.

33

:

PJ: Have you noticed that.

34

:

Yeah.

35

:

I've never been a big car wash guy.

36

:

Like I appreciated a clean car,

but it's, it's not something

37

:

that bothers me when it's not.

38

:

Rod: So yeah, God is sanctifying

me by making me care less

39

:

about it, but I still care.

40

:

I'm trying, I'm trying my best to

just like, it's just, it's just

41

:

dirty, but you know, here's the thing.

42

:

So when you're backing up and the

backup cam is all fuzzy and dirty

43

:

because of the debris and the

colicy, this is why you want a clean

44

:

car, scrub a wipe and wipe it off.

45

:

I could, but then it's like,

it's really dirty it's cake and

46

:

nasty whatever steps on the road.

47

:

So yeah, I would prefer

just to have a clean car.

48

:

I like having clean

49

:

PJ: inside, clean outside.

50

:

You also live back in the country.

51

:

So you have to drive on that dirt road

to get back to your house and everything.

52

:

And I don't have any dirt roads

that road off of a outer loop.

53

:

Isn't that kind of unpaved.

54

:

It's not a dirt road.

55

:

Is it not

56

:

Rod: it's paved.

57

:

It's, it's poorly paved.

58

:

They're going to repave it this summer.

59

:

Uh, but it's not dirt road.

60

:

Okay.

61

:

It's.

62

:

Fair enough.

63

:

It's very much paved.

64

:

PJ: That's

65

:

Rod: fair.

66

:

PJ: Yeah, we were talking about

this before we hit play on

67

:

this record on this podcast.

68

:

Whether it's kind of a subjective thing.

69

:

Like I like the, the rain,

I like the cold weather.

70

:

I like that overcast days.

71

:

You were talking about missing California

and the sunny days all the time.

72

:

And I know a lot of people like that.

73

:

It's not my bag.

74

:

Rod: I don't like the

hot days here or there.

75

:

I like them.

76

:

The moderate days where you could just,

you could plan on being outside with

77

:

a relative high degree of accuracy,

California, you could make plans to do

78

:

almost anything outdoors and you would

be, you would be rewarded in your, in

79

:

your diligent planning because there

would always be decent weather here.

80

:

You can't do that.

81

:

You can't assume.

82

:

And I was.

83

:

I've debated putting things on the

calendar outdoors for that very reason.

84

:

Like, what are the historical

trends for this month?

85

:

This time, you know, this time of

year what's, what's the expectation.

86

:

And it's hard to know because the

weather can be so erratic here.

87

:

PJ: Yeah.

88

:

Aye.

89

:

In that that's true.

90

:

I, my frustration in

California was always do.

91

:

When, when Thanksgiving feels

like a day in may, 75 degrees.

92

:

It's blue skies.

93

:

It's wrong is what it is.

94

:

What's it supposed

95

:

Rod: to be like, and

you're in your opinion,

96

:

PJ: it's supposed to be

fall in your strongly worded

97

:

Rod: opinion.

98

:

What's it supposed to be?

99

:

PJ: Christmas to the

air supposed to be fall.

100

:

It's supposed to be cool.

101

:

Like that here either crisp.

102

:

Crispness.

103

:

Yeah.

104

:

Like a crisp.

105

:

Feeling in the air, jumping

into Christmas already.

106

:

Yeah.

107

:

And same thing with Christmas.

108

:

Christmas needs to be cold.

109

:

I Palm trees and Christmas

don't belong together.

110

:

And.

111

:

But that goes to the subjectivity

because that's what I grew up with.

112

:

I grew up out here.

113

:

Grew up with cold weather.

114

:

I didn't grow up with Palm trees.

115

:

So Palm trees and Christmas to me

are like, I mean, what are you doing?

116

:

You're ruining everything.

117

:

Wow.

118

:

Well, just throw it all away.

119

:

Wow.

120

:

Rod: Yeah, I can.

121

:

I'm.

122

:

I'm adaptable.

123

:

I don't have a, I don't

have a dog in a fight.

124

:

I like, I like good weather, but I also

like the crispy, the crispiness you speak

125

:

of the Krispy Kremes I love crispy cream.

126

:

Actually.

127

:

This is one of my favorite donuts, but

I also like the crispiness in the air.

128

:

That is it's enjoyable.

129

:

Yeah.

130

:

Speaking of donuts, the bagel

place, right in our parking lot

131

:

here opened up the Einstein bagels.

132

:

Mark's favorite bagel spot.

133

:

Favorite.

134

:

PJ: I tried

135

:

Rod: one of their bagels today,

just because I had to, I was

136

:

like, oh, They're opening week.

137

:

I got to give it a shot.

138

:

PJ: Yeah.

139

:

Rod: And I'd say a solid 6, 5, 6, 4,

140

:

PJ: 5,

141

:

Rod: 6, 5 out of 10.

142

:

I only go get it again.

143

:

I'll probably not get their food

again, but I did enjoy going

144

:

and they have no place to sit.

145

:

There's no, where to sit in there.

146

:

There's nowhere to sit really, truly.

147

:

I know I was shocked and appalled.

148

:

I almost threw my food

against the wall, dude.

149

:

I was about to say, we should have

our password meeting there tomorrow.

150

:

Nope.

151

:

There's nowhere to sit rejected.

152

:

You know what here's,

what you can do though.

153

:

You can walk over there, get your food and

come back to our office and sit in here.

154

:

It's basically the same thing.

155

:

PJ: Yeah.

156

:

Yeah.

157

:

No.

158

:

Rod: Yup.

159

:

You're not feeling that

160

:

PJ: there's a, did you see the

Dutch bros is going to be coming

161

:

in down on the corner here?

162

:

Oh, no.

163

:

Oh, that's fantastic.

164

:

Dutch bros in the corner.

165

:

The kind of the triangle is down past

the gas station, everything down there.

166

:

That we're like, oh,

167

:

Rod: okay.

168

:

That's a for.

169

:

PJ: That's a walk.

170

:

Rod: It's walkable though.

171

:

It's walkable on a, on a moderate day.

172

:

Yes.

173

:

Which is like what?

174

:

Uh, one fourth of the year at

175

:

PJ: Texas.

176

:

More than that

177

:

Rod: you think so?

178

:

Well, I mean, it's.

179

:

PJ: Again, it's a quarter of the year.

180

:

It's objective.

181

:

Rod: Okay.

182

:

I'm thinking really, really

cold and really, really hot.

183

:

PJ: Well, yeah.

184

:

Fair.

185

:

Our boy, Matt, Matt Bates.

186

:

He's a big, desperate fan.

187

:

Yeah, he is.

188

:

Yeah.

189

:

They give him free stuff all

the time because he represents

190

:

them on, on social media.

191

:

He's always posting about them.

192

:

Oh, wow.

193

:

He's basically sponsored by

sponsored by Dutch brothers.

194

:

Yep.

195

:

Rod: Yeah.

196

:

I've always wanted to be

sponsored by Crossway.

197

:

Crossway you hearing.

198

:

Are you hearing what we're saying here?

199

:

I don't think they tune in, they tune in.

200

:

I don't want to tag them in our next and

our next episode, I'm going to tag them.

201

:

They've got this new, I

don't know how many bikes.

202

:

There's like six, maybe five

or six different, uh, journal

203

:

Bibles, their journal Bibles.

204

:

But there is a, there's

a brand called journal.

205

:

It's a journal Bible.

206

:

Anyway, they, they have, uh, a new

series, a new journal Bible that is spiral

207

:

bound, hardcover, and it looks great.

208

:

It looks, I mean, it looks beautiful.

209

:

It's like 140 bucks.

210

:

I've

211

:

PJ: heard about this, actually.

212

:

Yeah.

213

:

Rod: Yeah, it looks really pretty.

214

:

I was tempted, but no, I don't need that.

215

:

I got my Bible, which is

basically the same idea.

216

:

But, and it's only one volume,

which I really appreciate.

217

:

PJ: That'd be a great gift for somebody.

218

:

If you were thinking about giving somebody

a, a Bible or something like that,

219

:

a journal Bible with a spiral bound.

220

:

That's super cool.

221

:

Rod: Well, it's spiraled

down in fi I think five.

222

:

Yeah, maybe six different books.

223

:

If you're going to take it to

church, you would have to make

224

:

sure you take it in the right one,

because it's not like just taking

225

:

one where you have your whole Bible.

226

:

And then when your pastor cross-references

turn to Genesis chapter four,

227

:

pull out an entirely new notebook.

228

:

You have to bring all five volumes.

229

:

You have to bring all of them and

just say, okay, well, so it's not,

230

:

it's, it's something very niche.

231

:

Yeah, I don't see most people wanting it.

232

:

That's fair.

233

:

PJ: That's fair.

234

:

All right.

235

:

Well, Hey, speaking of

the Bible, let's jump in.

236

:

We have a second team of 16.

237

:

Through 18.

238

:

16 through 18 today.

239

:

Um, second team of 16 things get worse

before they get, I guess, better.

240

:

They don't really get a whole

lot better for David between

241

:

now and the end of his life.

242

:

But.

243

:

Right now things are bad because

remember Absalom is there.

244

:

Absalom's in Jerusalem things.

245

:

Aren't going well.

246

:

David's on the run from his son.

247

:

Uh, you got to wonder if he

pushed back from time to time and

248

:

said, man, how did I get here?

249

:

And then remembered, oh yeah,

the whole Bathsheba thing.

250

:

That's how I got here.

251

:

Uh, but things are going to

get bit worse before they get

252

:

better verses one through four.

253

:

Uh, you've got Zeba show up.

254

:

And I remember Zeba was the, was a servant

of Saul and was charged with the care of

255

:

one of Jonathan's sons and David had given

much honor and position and prestige

256

:

as well as, uh, land in inheritance.

257

:

And so Zyppah shows up

and says, David I'm here.

258

:

I'm with you.

259

:

I'm all in for you.

260

:

Uh, Mafibisha said he was going to stay

because this was his opportunity to,

261

:

to regain the land that he lost in.

262

:

And he wants to kind of ally with

your enemy because of, of how

263

:

you ended up, uh, taking Saul's

rightful place on the throne.

264

:

I mean, I think zebra is a slime ball

is what I think in this, even though the

265

:

text is not abundantly clear, doesn't.

266

:

Tell us, I think zip is a slime ball.

267

:

That's my biggest.

268

:

Yeah.

269

:

Because when you get back, when

David arrives back Mafibisha is

270

:

there and he's like, Hey, look, I,

I wanted to count like I couldn't

271

:

and what we know of my Fibbage at.

272

:

In his crippled state.

273

:

And we know that, say

274

:

Rod: that today, by the way.

275

:

But

276

:

PJ: what we know.

277

:

And this crippled state

he wasn't able to, to go.

278

:

And so here, you've got Zibo

who is one of Saul's guys.

279

:

Who I think is showing his true

colors and he's making a power

280

:

play there towards the end.

281

:

And, and even it's, it's a little bit

like the Solomon situation down the

282

:

road when David does get back in, in

devise, the inheritance Muffet, the.

283

:

Is it, his response is David.

284

:

I'm just glad you're back, whatever

you're going to do with the inheritance

285

:

and everything else like that.

286

:

I'm just glad you're back.

287

:

Yeah.

288

:

Zeba seems to be the guy that's making the

power plane that the, like I said, I think

289

:

zebra is a slime ball is what I think.

290

:

Rod: I would agree.

291

:

Uh, for those same reasons, actually,

I was thinking about this because

292

:

the text doesn't tell us exactly why,

but I do agree that it seems to be.

293

:

That Ziva is an opportunist.

294

:

And he's trying to get

the land back that he had.

295

:

He's trying to Curry his favor.

296

:

David's favor.

297

:

Um, and because zebra doesn't

actually physically possess the

298

:

ability to go and do the thing.

299

:

It makes sense to me that he would be,

uh, he would stay back and, and the, the

300

:

Solomon connection to dividing the baby.

301

:

Um, I thought about that same

text, I thought, okay, this

302

:

makes sense because zebra Zeba.

303

:

Uh, once that clearly that finish,

that doesn't really care much.

304

:

I think that's a good sign.

305

:

I think you're right.

306

:

Yeah.

307

:

Even though the text

doesn't tell us for sure.

308

:

I think, I think that's a

good line of reasoning there.

309

:

PJ: Yeah.

310

:

Yeah.

311

:

Well, Hey then in, uh, in verses

five to 14, David here demonstrates a

312

:

restraint that he lacked with neighbors.

313

:

Um, as he prevents anyone from

attacking this guy, shimmy, shimmy

314

:

out, comes out and starts cursing

David and throwing rocks at David

315

:

as David's on the run for his life.

316

:

This is just humiliation and

shame upon humiliation and shame.

317

:

And.

318

:

Uh, David has even encouraged by his men.

319

:

Hey, let us go in and write the wrong.

320

:

Let us go.

321

:

Shut this guy up.

322

:

And David says no, because it may be that

that God has ordained that he do this.

323

:

And if God has ordained that

he do this, then we don't need

324

:

to raise our hand against him.

325

:

If not, then God will deal with him.

326

:

Uh, in his due time and, and shimmy,

I will get his down the road later on.

327

:

But for, for now, David demonstrates

a again, a restraint that he

328

:

lacked with Neval cause Neval he

was ready to go and just wipe out

329

:

every man in enables household.

330

:

I don't think this is the same

pacivity that we saw with David

331

:

and Amnon or David and Absalom.

332

:

I think this is a.

333

:

A true humility that we see in David

here saying, look, it may be that this

334

:

is all part of God's plan and he's

using Shamia in the course of that.

335

:

I find it odd.

336

:

Aye.

337

:

It's

338

:

Rod: odd.

339

:

David was so protective over

king Saul as the anointed one.

340

:

And yet when it comes to him as, and I

guess I would imagine that a respect for

341

:

the office, he would feel very similarly

zealous, but it doesn't show that.

342

:

So I'm more confused by it.

343

:

I think you're right.

344

:

I think it's a posture of humility.

345

:

But I'm confused by the response.

346

:

PJ: Yeah.

347

:

I again, I think.

348

:

W not thinking we know this is all still

fallout from his sin with Bathsheba.

349

:

I think from that point on you see a

broken man in David in so many ways.

350

:

Um, and so I don't think he, he.

351

:

And probably counts himself worthy.

352

:

Of even what the honor that

he attributed saw and to your

353

:

point, yeah, the, the office.

354

:

But right now, he's not sure he's going

to continue to remain in that office.

355

:

He's running, he's gone.

356

:

He's abandoned the throne.

357

:

And so he's maybe thinking, okay, God

may be taking the throne away from me.

358

:

At this point.

359

:

Um, so.

360

:

I think there's question whether

or not he even considered himself

361

:

to be the Lord's anointed still.

362

:

At this point as he's fleeing Jerusalem.

363

:

Interesting.

364

:

Absolutely.

365

:

Jerusalem.

366

:

And in verses 15 through 23, uh,

takes his father's concubines and

367

:

in a lewd act, we'll just leave it

that way of, of complete depravity.

368

:

He fulfills part of Nathan's

prophecy from second Samuel.

369

:

Uh, chapter 12, verses 11 through 12,

when he talked about this was going

370

:

to be done in the sight of all Israel.

371

:

And so absolutely just

humiliates his father.

372

:

To, to no end.

373

:

And it shows zero respect for his dad.

374

:

Uh, in, in any way, shape or form.

375

:

The only positive note in chapter 16.

376

:

That we can really point to is who shy.

377

:

It does manage to embed

himself in the King's council.

378

:

He does manage to get that spot on the.

379

:

With the King's court and that's

gonna, that's gonna bear fruit, so

380

:

to speak in the next chapter for us.

381

:

And you'll note too.

382

:

Rod: It's actually a hit the

fellows council that causes

383

:

Absalom to do the dirty deed.

384

:

Which is interesting

because, uh, I hit the fill.

385

:

Is the one who's seen to have the kind

of gravitas with his counsel that people

386

:

receive that as being, this is God's

will we should do what he says, right.

387

:

And so this is setting up the big fall.

388

:

Of course, you know, the, you know,

the punchline to this story, but just

389

:

notice here I hit the filter, the one

who's behind this and whether or not

390

:

he knew about the, the prophecy that

Nathan gives, gave her, gave her not.

391

:

Uh, he's still the one behind this,

which is again, a chin scratcher.

392

:

PJ: Yeah.

393

:

Yeah.

394

:

Well, it in.

395

:

Because of that chapter 17 is so

unexpected because I hit the fellow,

396

:

goes then to, to Absalom and says to

Absalom strike while the iron's hot.

397

:

David's on the run.

398

:

Now's the time to go.

399

:

Now's the time to wipe them out,

put an end to this and you can

400

:

finally, you can have the throne

without any question anymore.

401

:

And this is good counsel.

402

:

This is good strategy.

403

:

In fact, Absolutely should

have listened to a hit to fill.

404

:

In, in this regard and if he had then

mint, I don't think David's there anymore,

405

:

but because of God's sovereign plan.

406

:

Got a place who shy in the courts.

407

:

And I think we see even more of God's

sovereign plan here because listen,

408

:

Absalom had zero reason whatsoever

to listen to Hershey zero reason

409

:

whatsoever to doubt a hit the fill.

410

:

And yet, because of God's purpose to.

411

:

Uh, hit the fellows council, which

is what it says in the text here.

412

:

Absolutely listens to who shy.

413

:

And takes.

414

:

advice over.

415

:

I hit the fellows advice

and, uh, and so th that the.

416

:

At least is unexpected.

417

:

If not full on shocking.

418

:

That things go the way they go here.

419

:

Rod: Yeah.

420

:

Who should I as counsel?

421

:

I mean, it's, it's decent and that he

offers a lot of speculation, like this

422

:

could happen and this could happen.

423

:

And it's, I guess it's good.

424

:

Uh, but in my, in my estimation, it

doesn't seem to be as convincing.

425

:

And certainly it wouldn't have been in

any reasonable observer, but God intended

426

:

for him to receive the counsel, which

again, shows that God's operating behind

427

:

the scenes in every scene and all of

life to accomplish his good purposes.

428

:

Now how that corresponds to the

human responsibility to make

429

:

the choices and do what we do.

430

:

Harder harder to know, but

clearly God is behind every

431

:

single thing that's happening.

432

:

PJ: Yep.

433

:

Yeah, verses 15 through 22, then in

accordance with the plan that David

434

:

had hatched with, who shy, who shy.

435

:

Uh, sends the sons of say, doc, Uh,

to, to tell David what was going on and

436

:

in to inform David along the way they

have to avoid capture by Absalom's men.

437

:

And they do by being hidden there.

438

:

And then they're there.

439

:

Let go and they get to David.

440

:

They tell him what's going on.

441

:

Um, and then flashback

to the King's court.

442

:

There there's a vote of no confidence

from the king for him to fill.

443

:

And a hit the fel ends up in the end

of this chapter, putting his affairs

444

:

in order and taking his own life.

445

:

Why.

446

:

Um, I think out of shame.

447

:

The one thing that we

run into a lot in the.

448

:

Biblical culture, especially the

old Testament culture was, it was

449

:

a shame and honor culture, and

that's not what we live in anymore.

450

:

Um, but the, the concept of one's

reputation, the concept of one's

451

:

name, the concept of one's honor was.

452

:

In, in so many ways, everything

that they had, and we still see

453

:

that in some cultures today.

454

:

As well, especially in some of the

Asian cultures, there's a big shame

455

:

and honor element to the culture.

456

:

And I think I hit the Phil had been

humiliated to the degree that he was.

457

:

Degraded in his own eyes and

considered himself to be cast aside

458

:

in the sight of the king as well.

459

:

And so he in despair goes in and takes

his life because he's the one thing

460

:

that he had to offer, which was council.

461

:

Was now set aside in, in, in a shocking.

462

:

On founded reasons.

463

:

The king sides with this guy who

shine instead of siding with him.

464

:

And so I think his legs been cut out

from under him and he has nothing left.

465

:

So to speak to live for in that

regard, it seems overly dramatic.

466

:

I mean, yes,

467

:

Rod: I will.

468

:

Yeah, a hundred percent.

469

:

That's a different culture.

470

:

I wonder.

471

:

Maybe, maybe it's a combination of

things that on top of the fact that

472

:

he saw the writing on the wall.

473

:

He knows what's going to happen.

474

:

He knows that David is

going to be the king.

475

:

It's going to be re-installed.

476

:

It's hard to know exactly what's

behind this, but certainly

477

:

there's some mixture of a cultural

expectation that was violated.

478

:

Maybe a, an understanding that,

okay, clearly God has to wear.

479

:

Where did my good counsel.

480

:

I know that that was the right move.

481

:

And now God's going to destroy

Absalom through the means of who

482

:

shies counsel, who knows what it

was ultimately, but he's, he's

483

:

gone because of that very thing.

484

:

Yeah, God's moving

pieces on the chessboard.

485

:

PJ: Yup.

486

:

Yep.

487

:

Well, chapter 18, David sends out

his forces to meet those of Absalom,

488

:

but stays back at the behest of

his men who consider his life.

489

:

Hey, You're too valuable

to be lost in battle.

490

:

Um, verses five to eight,

David wins handily.

491

:

Uh, possessing a greater military prowess

and strategy that led to mass confusion

492

:

and chaos from his enemies who even

fled into the forest in their panic.

493

:

So there's the, there's the wisdom

and strategy of David plus there's

494

:

just God's sovereignty here.

495

:

Um, in this battle and, and

David and his men win easily.

496

:

Uh, back in verse five, though,

David had made it clear to everyone

497

:

that Absalom was to be spared.

498

:

If, if Absalom was captured

alive than he was to be spared.

499

:

And dealt with gently.

500

:

And so you see some of David's

affection for his son, his heart

501

:

for his son is still present there.

502

:

Uh, but Joe app was told, Hey,

you know what Absalom he is in

503

:

this weird situation, suspended

helplessly, uh, from this tree branch.

504

:

Some believe that it was his hair

that was caught in the tree branch.

505

:

Others believe that it was

like a, a spear, like a fork.

506

:

And his head was caught

in there either way.

507

:

He's suspended.

508

:

He can't get himself down from

the tree branch and Joe AB.

509

:

Uh, ends up going and taking three

Spears and driving these three

510

:

Spears into the King's son, and

then buries him in an undignified

511

:

grave in the middle of the forest.

512

:

Um, news, the victory reaches David in

the rest of the chapter, but his greatest

513

:

concern was a concern for Absalom.

514

:

And when he learns that

abs on that fallen, David.

515

:

Himself falls into a state

of despair and great sorrow.

516

:

So it's a, it's a win, but

it's a loss at the same time.

517

:

Rod: I would count this

whole thing, a win entirely.

518

:

I think David is wrong to

respond the way that he does.

519

:

Understandably.

520

:

So.

521

:

Totally.

522

:

He's told I get it.

523

:

Like it's his son.

524

:

And I understand he had his

hopes and expectations on him

525

:

being the next king, probably.

526

:

And there's also that sense of personal

guilt that the reason that he's acting

527

:

this way is because of his own sin.

528

:

It was a sin that provoked all

of these, all of this fallout.

529

:

So he's probably reeling

promote a few things there in

530

:

addition to the loss of his son.

531

:

But boy, at the time that the nation

needs him to be king, to be confident,

532

:

to be strong, to trust in Yahweh

as his, all of his Psalms detail.

533

:

And we'll look at tomorrow.

534

:

And then he's he's, this

is a bad thing for him.

535

:

And so even though I don't like Joe

abs character, It's got a scoundrel.

536

:

We've talked about him already.

537

:

And he's a mixed character at the best.

538

:

Uh, but Joe abs decision to

kill his son to, to restore

539

:

unity to the kingdom in order.

540

:

Um, Was it, I think the right decision.

541

:

Even though David.

542

:

Basically commanded them.

543

:

He actually, no, he didn't basically he

did verse five, the king ordered Joe AB

544

:

and Abishai and it's high deal gently

for my sake with the young man Absalom.

545

:

I think it was the

wisest course of action.

546

:

It had him killed.

547

:

PJ: Yeah.

548

:

That's, that's hard though, right?

549

:

Because if, if we're going to use

the Kings and the Lord's anointed.

550

:

Concept there.

551

:

Then disobeying the Lord's anointed.

552

:

What?

553

:

Wasn't the right move, right?

554

:

I mean, David wouldn't have

disobeyed salts commands.

555

:

Um, true.

556

:

Rod: Um, so I'm thinking

treason, treason is.

557

:

I think Warren's capital penalties.

558

:

Yeah.

559

:

And so again, I think David's wrong.

560

:

I just, because he is a Lord's anointed,

I don't think it means that everything

561

:

he does is obviously clearly going to

be the Lord's wisdom on the matter.

562

:

I think Joel did the thing

that he should have done.

563

:

According to what God would have wanted,

not what David would have wanted.

564

:

PJ: Yeah, I'm not saying what

David did was, was good here.

565

:

When I said it's, it's a win and a loss.

566

:

It's a loss because of.

567

:

Of David's response to

everything and right.

568

:

The whole situation.

569

:

Um, yeah, not because Absalom dies.

570

:

That's not so much a loss.

571

:

Um, yeah, so there you go.

572

:

Uh, second scene of 16 through 18 and

a man David's life gets really messy.

573

:

But we're going to get to

Solomon in a little bit.

574

:

Here in Solomon has a much different rain.

575

:

It's it's not a violent rain.

576

:

It's not a war torn rain.

577

:

It's a much different rain, but for

now we're, we're focused on David

578

:

and things are not going well.

579

:

Because of David's rebellion against God.

580

:

Rod: It's always a small sins, right?

581

:

I think.

582

:

We talked about this, but it's worth

repeating because of the impact that we're

583

:

still seeing unfold in front of our eyes.

584

:

David has a small fling.

585

:

I mean, who knows how long it took,

but it was just maybe a couple hours of

586

:

time in his life that resulted in years

of pain, heartache and devastation.

587

:

Sometimes sin presents itself

like the bait on the hook.

588

:

That's shiny and enjoyable.

589

:

But Allston has, has the switch in

it, which is intended to destroy

590

:

after it deceives and to kill and

harm everyone else in its wake.

591

:

So, man, if you're fighting a

temptation, if there's something

592

:

in your life that you're struggling

with and you know, this is a wrong

593

:

thing, I shouldn't do this thing.

594

:

Um, now just.

595

:

Keep David's story in mind, the

fallout to sin is never neat and clean.

596

:

You will always regret sin.

597

:

You'll never regret being righteous.

598

:

You'll never regret.

599

:

Saying I did what was

honorable in God's sight.

600

:

That even if it causes you pain,

you're never going to say, oh, I

601

:

hated that I did what God wanted

me to, but you will hate sin.

602

:

You will hate to fall out of sin.

603

:

And as, as sure as, as, as right, as rain

as it is, uh, God will ensure that either

604

:

a you're disciplined or you're found out.

605

:

Or some other effects of sin

because that's how it goes.

606

:

You reap what you sow.

607

:

PJ: Yup.

608

:

Yep.

609

:

Yeah, heavy end, but a helpful.

610

:

And why is it ending to this

episode of the daily Bible podcast?

611

:

Keep her in your Bibles in tune in

tomorrow as we, uh, take on some

612

:

more songs together by out by.
