Action: Many of us are taught early on, not to be selfish and as a result we usually make others a priority over ourselves. This is especially true when we have multiple roles to play in life. Parents, spouses, siblings, grandparents, teachers, bosses, etc. It’s only now that I realize that the best thing you can do in life is make yourself the priority. Put your well-being first. That probably feels wrong to you, but it’s true. By taking care of yourself, loving yourself, practicing self-love, that is the absolute best thing you can do not just for yourself, but those around you. It’s similar to the concept when you’re on a plane, and the flight attendants tell you in the case of an emergency you need to put your own mask on first, before you can help others. And they tell you that because you can’t help anyone else, if something happens to you. Get what I mean? Practice self-love, take care of your mental health, take breaks. Begin to accept the fact that practicing self-love is probably the most selfless thing you can do for someone else.
