Shownotes

Picture this: a Saturday morning filled with laughter, chaos, and the undeniable charm of family life. We’re kicking off the show with the one and only Dude Dad, Taylor Calmus, who’s basically the superhero of dad jokes and DIY disasters. He’s got a knack for turning the everyday grind of parenting into a comedy show that’s relatable whether you’re knee-deep in toys or just trying to keep your sanity. Taylor opens up about his hilarious escapades in fatherhood, sharing stories that resonate with anyone who’s ever attempted a home project only to find themselves knee-deep in chaos and confusion. We explore the fine art of balancing parenting, marriage, and those epic DIY projects that often lead to more questions than answers. Trust me, you don’t want to miss his take on what it means to be a dad in today’s world – it’s a masterclass in keeping it real while navigating the delightful madness of family life. But hold on tight, because the second half of our show is all about BBQ and hardware! Our very own Eric was out at Parkrose Hardware’s 60th anniversary party, and let me tell you, he’s got the scoop on all the hot tips for grilling that’ll make your summer BBQs the talk of the neighborhood. From the perfect brisket to how to keep your meat juicy and flavorful, Eric and our guests dive into the nitty-gritty of grilling. We’re talking about those moments when the brisket is done too early, and you’re left wondering how to save the day (spoiler alert: it involves some clever wrapping techniques and a bit of patience). It’s a tasty discussion filled with insights from the pros that’ll have you firing up your grill in no time. So grab your favorite apron, and let’s get ready to sizzle!

Speaker A:

Hold on tight.

Speaker A:

We have a great around the house show coming up this weekend.

Speaker A:

Help us out and subscribe on your favorite podcast player.

Speaker B:

Alright, folks, buckle up because the first hour is about to get hilariously real.

Speaker B:

We've got the one and only dude dad himself, Taylor Kalmus, joining us.

Speaker B:

You know him from his massive YouTube empire, those epic backyard DIY builds on Magnolia Network, super dad and comedy that perfectly nails the chaos of fatherhood while still keeping it 100%, dude.

Speaker B:

Whether you're a dad trying to survive the daily grind, a mom laughing at the madness, or just someone who loves good family stories with a side of laughs, this one's for you.

Speaker B:

We're talking real talk on parenting, marriage, over the top projects, and everything in between.

Speaker B:

Dude dad in the house.

Speaker B:

You're gonna love this one.

Speaker C:

Through FaceTime, and it was such a joke.

Speaker C:

They just like, all right, show me the outlet.

Speaker C:

Show me the switch.

Speaker C:

Turn it on.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker C:

All right.

Speaker C:

Yeah, you're good to go.

Speaker C:

I'm like, what are we doing here?

Speaker C:

I stopped pulling permits and projects, and I got about six projects deep before I got a letter in the mail.

Speaker D:

Yep.

Speaker C:

And essentially the lead in the second.

Speaker B:

Hour, Eric was out at Parkrose Hardware's 60th anniversary party.

Speaker B:

And he talks hardware and barbecue with the experts.

Speaker B:

This one will make you hungry.

Speaker E:

One time I was cooking brisket, and I swear it was done six hours early in the middle of the night.

Speaker E:

I usually pull it like at nine in the morning or so because turn is like at 11.

Speaker E:

I swear it was done at 4, 3, something like that.

Speaker E:

I was like going, gosh darn it, we get all this way and we're gonna get lose.

Speaker E:

And so I said, well, let's just let it hold because we'll see what it does and then we'll learn from it.

Speaker E:

And we ended up getting first place with it the second.

Speaker E:

So I'm like, well, now I don't gotta sweat it.

Speaker E:

Every time it's done early, I'm like, that's all right, that's all right.

Speaker D:

I can just sit there.

Speaker D:

Are you wrapping it at that point just to keep it?

Speaker D:

Yeah, and that's.

Speaker E:

Yeah, we wrap it and put it in a Cambro so it stays nice and warm and kind of slowly cools down.

Speaker D:

So it's just sitting there loving itself in its own juices.

Speaker E:

So it soaks everything back in almost like a sauce.

Speaker D:

Then it's just sitting there.

Speaker D:

That extra time just kind of sitting there, marinating in its own and deeper and deeper.

Speaker D:

It's better that way.

Speaker E:

Anyway, yeah, she always lets you meat.

Speaker D:

Rest so it's always like like when you make spaghetti sauce, right?

Speaker A:
