Shownotes

Dr. J Ann Dunn was my guest a couple of weeks ago. As often happens, once we ended the interview, questions I hadn't asked popped into my mind.

Questions on cancer, mental health, (Which is why she started her company My Happy Genes) addiction and more.

I asked J if she'd come back again to answer them and asked people on my list to join us live or ask their questions ahead of time by email.

These are the topics we covered:

Why are some people more susceptible to addiction? Cravings, whether for sugar, booze, or drugs are symptoms that something is out of balance.

How knowing what foods best suit our genealogy doesn't mean we'll follow the advice--unless we will die or get sick otherwise. And, food sensitivities or contraindications to certain nutrients, represent something malfunctioning upstream. Knowing the whole pathway means a doc or other practitioner trained to read gene reports can make suggestions for supplements to restore balance.

Supplements--how to know you are getting something that isn't expensive urine

ConsumerLab is a great resource to see if your supplement has the amount it promises on the label, if the source is clean, and do they give you the results you're looking for.

Afraid to get a gene test? Here's why you can let that go

Methylation

How the My Happy Genes testing and reporting is like no other.

What is the cancer profile or information that I might get after doing your gene test?

How melatonin might or might not be the right sleep aid for you.

Why blaming ourselves for our mood, habits, or body is unnecessary and harmful. J is writing a book titled Compassionate Genetics. In it she'll explain her believe that we must take a kinder approach to what people are experiencing on the negative side of a life.

When you work with a practitioner who is understands the results you get in a report (Or 5) you'll do an intake questionnaire to match up your symptoms with the findings. You an always tale this questionnaire again after say 6 months to measure progress and reversal of symptoms.

You won't likely have to wait 6 months to see results though. Many years long problems resolve in days and weeks when the body gets the support in needs.

I've just sent in my test and I'll be reporting back on what it finds and what there is for me to adjust in how I do my day to day. I can't wait!
