Have you ever listened to someone on a stage, in a meeting, on a podcast, or even one of those feisty little Instagram reels and thought, "Damn, I wish I could speak like that"? I've lost track of how many times I've stepped off stage and someone has whispered to me, "I wish I could do what you do." My answer every single time? You can. But it's not by trying to be like me or anyone else—it's by sounding like you.

In this episode, we explore why being a copycat makes you invisible in a world already full of same-sounding noise. I share why audiences crave authenticity and can spot a knock-off from miles away, and how embracing your imperfections and quirks is what makes you relatable and engaging. We discuss how your unique voice—whether it's cheeky puns, candour, or playful grit—is actually your superpower in creating an unmistakable personal brand.

The digital world doesn't need another clone of someone else—it needs the vibrant aura that's unmistakably you. When you're true to yourself, you're not just delivering content; you're inviting people into a world that only you can create. I challenge you to ask yourself: Do you want to blend in, or do you want to be a glaring point of awesomeness in a dull landscape? Because nobody forgets the one and only original—you're the main act, not a supporting impression.

Janine:

Hello, and welcome

Janine:

to another episode of

Janine:

Unleashing Brilliance.

Janine:

I am your host, Janine

Janine:

Garner, and it is fabulous

Janine:

to see you here today.

Janine:

Now, I wanna ask

Janine:

you this question.

Janine:

Have you ever listened to

Janine:

someone on a stage in a

Janine:

meeting, on a podcast, or

Janine:

even one of those feisty

Janine:

little Instagram reels

Janine:

and thought, damn, I wish

Janine:

I could speak like that.

Janine:

You know what?

Janine:

You're not alone.

Janine:

In fact, I've lost track of

Janine:

how many times I've stepped

Janine:

off stage, whether it be

Janine:

corporate keynotes, government

Janine:

panels, women's leadership

Janine:

summits, workshops, or even

Janine:

intimate boardroom gigs.

Janine:

And every single time

Janine:

someone has come up to

Janine:

me in whispered, I wish I

Janine:

could do what you do, and my

Janine:

answer every single time is.

Janine:

You can.

Janine:

But it's not by trying

Janine:

to be like me or trying

Janine:

to be like someone else.

Janine:

It's also not by being

Janine:

professional or appropriate

Janine:

or some polished robot thought

Janine:

leader trying to fit a trend.

Janine:

You do it by

Janine:

sounding like you.

Janine:

And that's what

Janine:

today is all about.

Janine:

I don't wanna talk about

Janine:

you becoming a copycat.

Janine:

What I wanna talk about is

Janine:

you finding and owning your

Janine:

voice because we are living

Janine:

in a world of full of same,

Janine:

same sounding noise, and

Janine:

you've got to stand out.

Janine:

So right now I am currently

Janine:

prepping for two full days

Janine:

of workshops with an amazing

Janine:

corporate client of mine, no

Janine:

fluff days, with incredible

Janine:

group of executives of

Janine:

individuals that are wanting

Janine:

to build their internal

Janine:

positioning and their

Janine:

authority in their industry.

Janine:

They wanna redefine what

Janine:

influence looks like, and they

Janine:

want to do it on their terms.

Janine:

And as I've been reviewing

Janine:

keynotes and workshops from

Janine:

the past year, one Truth

Janine:

keeps punching me in the face.

Janine:

And it's this truth that,

Janine:

the people who truly shift

Janine:

rooms don't sound perfect.

Janine:

They sound real.

Janine:

They are present.

Janine:

They are passionate.

Janine:

They're truthful.

Janine:

They're human.

Janine:

And guess what?

Janine:

They are

Janine:

unforgettable because.

Janine:

they sound like themselves.

Janine:

They just turned that

Janine:

they amplified themselves

Janine:

all the way up.

Janine:

Now, I wanna talk

Janine:

about the first.

Janine:

Draft trap and why you

Janine:

actually need to burn it.

Janine:

You see every speaker, I

Janine:

coach every writer, I support

Janine:

every client shaping their ip.

Janine:

We always start with their

Janine:

shitty first draft, and

Janine:

then usually more often than

Janine:

not, we toss it in the bin.

Janine:

Not because it's garbage,

Janine:

but because it really.

Janine:

Isn't you usually, it doesn't

Janine:

sound like you, it's a stitch

Janine:

together script of what

Janine:

you think you should say.

Janine:

It's full of polished

Janine:

paragraphs or, all

Janine:

those buzzwords and

Janine:

those insert applause.

Janine:

He lines that sound like they

Janine:

were pulled from some ted

Janine:

talk or run through check GPT.

Janine:

But here's the deal.

Janine:

Imitation actually

Janine:

creates invisibility and

Janine:

intention creates impact.

Janine:

So I'm challenging you

Janine:

to always toss that first

Janine:

draft, absolutely right,

Janine:

the shitty first draft.

Janine:

But toss it.

Janine:

Toss it, and ask yourself,

Janine:

what do I really want to say?

Janine:

I think there are three

Janine:

brilliance triggers, three

Janine:

ways of sounding like you.

Janine:

And the first way is to lead

Janine:

with what lights you up.

Janine:

You know, before you post,

Janine:

before you pitch, before you

Janine:

present, I want you to ask

Janine:

yourself, what do I want my

Janine:

audience to feel, to know

Janine:

or do differently because

Janine:

they've listened or heard.

Janine:

This because when your

Janine:

message comes from fire, from

Janine:

inside, from your passion,

Janine:

that's where it catches.

Janine:

And whether you are speaking

Janine:

to five people or to 5,000

Janine:

people, when your message is

Janine:

personal, it becomes powerful.

Janine:

The second thing I want

Janine:

you to think about is

Janine:

using your real stories.

Janine:

You know, even those sweaty

Janine:

palmed ones, this isn't about

Janine:

therapy from the stage though.

Janine:

This is about using

Janine:

those stories that are

Janine:

going to help get your

Janine:

point across and help.

Janine:

People remember the message.

Janine:

This isn't about stats.

Janine:

It's not about frameworks.

Janine:

It's not your logo.

Janine:

Here's the thing, the

Janine:

people listening are

Janine:

watching your content.

Janine:

They remember the time

Janine:

that you might have bombed

Janine:

the pitch, the moment

Janine:

when you spoke up at work

Janine:

and your voice cracked

Janine:

the story about your kid

Janine:

calling you out for being

Janine:

distracted during dinner.

Janine:

That might not be me.

Janine:

Your audience doesn't

Janine:

need perfection.

Janine:

They need proof that you've

Janine:

been there, that you've

Janine:

walked the fire, and that

Janine:

through walking the fire,

Janine:

you also came out the

Janine:

other side with learnings.

Janine:

That's what your

Janine:

audience needs to hear.

Janine:

And the third thing I

Janine:

want you to think about

Janine:

is amplifying your weird,

Janine:

amplifying the very thing

Janine:

that makes you different.

Janine:

Now, my brand personality

Janine:

is rebel magician, and the

Janine:

rebel in me needs to say this.

Janine:

Your quirks are

Janine:

your secret weapon.

Janine:

You are too much

Janine:

is someone else's.

Janine:

Thank God she said that

Janine:

you are not for everyone

Janine:

and nor should you be,

Janine:

and that's a bloody gift.

Janine:

You don't wanna be

Janine:

for everyone, you

Janine:

wanna be yourself.

Janine:

So whether you are the

Janine:

animated one, the quiet one,

Janine:

the deep thinker, the truth

Janine:

dropper, or the sassy realist,

Janine:

I want you to turn that up.

Janine:

Your voice isn't

Janine:

just for stages.

Janine:

What I'm talking about today

Janine:

isn't just about keynotes.

Janine:

This is about how you show up,

Janine:

how you build your position,

Janine:

how you amplify yourself.

Janine:

It's about how you write

Janine:

your posts, how you send

Janine:

out your proposals, how

Janine:

you pitch your idea to

Janine:

that individual, to that

Janine:

journalist, to that boardroom.

Janine:

It's how you.

Janine:

In the comments, it's

Janine:

how you email your list.

Janine:

Your voice is absolutely

Janine:

everywhere, so stop

Janine:

trying to be someone else.

Janine:

Stop copycatting.

Janine:

Stop auto tuning it so that

Janine:

it sounds like what the

Janine:

algorithm wants, and give us

Janine:

you unfiltered, unapologetic,

Janine:

and unforgettable.

Janine:

We need you now

Janine:

more than ever.

Janine:

We're drowning in noise.

Janine:

We're drowning in recycled

Janine:

strategies of copycat

Janine:

posts, of repurpose posts.

Janine:

We're drowning in coaches

Janine:

copy pasting each other's

Janine:

content like it's a bad

Janine:

game of telephone, but

Janine:

the people that stand out.

Janine:

They own their narrative.

Janine:

They lead with heart.

Janine:

They show up heartfelt, and

Janine:

they show up voice first.

Janine:

And it's not just more

Janine:

engaging, it's more effective

Janine:

because when people hear your

Janine:

real voice, they lean in, they

Janine:

trust you, they buy from you.

Janine:

And so this week I want

Janine:

you to think about this.

Janine:

I want you to pick one

Janine:

piece of communication

Janine:

from last week.

Janine:

It could be a post, a

Janine:

client proposal, a sales

Janine:

deck, an email, and I

Janine:

want you to look at it.

Janine:

I want you to get on that

Janine:

balcony and look at it with

Janine:

perspective and ask yourself,

Janine:

does this sound like me

Janine:

or does this sound like a

Janine:

corporate robot trying to win

Janine:

gold at the buzzword Olympics?

Janine:

If it's the latter, I want you

Janine:

to rewrite just one section.

Janine:

Make it funnier.

Janine:

Grittier, realer, youer.

Janine:

That's your challenge

Janine:

because when you sound

Janine:

like you, you don't need

Janine:

to be loud to be heard.

Janine:

You just need to be true.

Janine:

If this podcast episode

Janine:

gave you something to

Janine:

think about or even yet

Janine:

something to change.

Janine:

Please pass it on.

Janine:

Please tag me.

Janine:

Share it with someone hiding

Janine:

their magic behind a vanilla

Janine:

voice, or better yet, DM me.

Janine:

Tell me how you're turning

Janine:

up your volume this week.

Janine:

'cause I'd love to know.

Janine:

And if this podcast has helped

Janine:

you show up more, help you

Janine:

show up more boldly, please

Janine:

leave me a little love note

Janine:

here or wherever you're

Janine:

watching your listening to

Janine:

your podcast, because it

Janine:

means more than you know,

Janine:

and it makes sure we get this

Janine:

message out loud and clear.

Janine:

Until next week,

Janine:

keep showing up.

Janine:

Keep sounding like you

Janine:

and keep unleashing

Janine:

that brilliance.
