•An article titled "The MMP14-caveolin axis and its potential relevance for lipoedema" published in the journal Nature Reviews Endocrinology in August 2020, by two medical research groups in Germany and Texas. •This study sought to discover a route cause of lipedema and may have found a potential mechanism. •This research suggests that the dysregulation of CAV1 protein and MMP14 enzyme could effectively explain the main known features of lipoedema.
