Shownotes

The invitation included her name,

and left someone else out.

Sophie received the message in the afternoon.

A casual plan for that evening.

A small group.

People she knew.

She read through the names.

Noticed one missing.

Her friend.

They were usually invited together.

Not formally.

Just how things had settled.

Shared plans.

Shared spaces.

This time, it was different.

Sophie paused.

Considered forwarding it.

Asking if she had seen it.

But the message didn’t feel accidental.

Not unkind.

Just selective.

She told herself it might be nothing.

That mentioning it would make it something.

So she replied.

Said she would come.

That evening, everything felt familiar.

Conversation easy.

Nothing said about who was there.

Or who wasn’t.

At one point, someone referenced a plan her friend would have known about.

Sophie nodded.

Kept the conversation moving.

Later, her friend asked what she had done.

Sophie answered simply.

A quiet night.

It felt easier.

Close enough.

The moment passed.

Nothing changed on the surface.

They still spoke.

Still met.

But something adjusted.

Not distance.

Just awareness.

That inclusion can shift without being explained.

Now, when messages arrive, Sophie notices the names more carefully.

And the space around them.
