Speaker A:Go now to bit ly Catholic Purpose Coaching that is bitly bit ly catholicpurposecoaching so we can awaken the fire within and start living the mission that he's placed on your heart.
Speaker A:When I first started searching for what my purpose was, I went straight to a Bible study because the title sounded so promising.
Speaker A:I wanted something aligned with what the Catholic Church teaches about purpose and at first it felt like the right move until I realized it actually didn't talk about purpose at all.
Speaker A:I started it while I was pregnant with my daughter and then I stopped.
Speaker A:I picked it up again later and stopped again because the demands of my home and family and every time I stopped I felt like I was doing something wrong, like I was failing.
Speaker A:But here's what I eventually realized.
Speaker A:The Bible study wasn't bad.
Speaker A:It just wasn't what God was inviting me to.
Speaker A:In this season, I had very limited time.
Speaker A:What he kept putting on my heart was to discover my purpose, to be obedient to that call, even if it didn't look like the ideal spiritual routine.
Speaker A:And that's when I learned that hearing God is not limited to long Bible studies.
Speaker A:He meets us where we actually are.
Speaker A:We're tired, stretched thin, interrupted, exhausted.
Speaker A:And he knows how to speak to us in the small pockets that we give Him.
Speaker A:Walking through that season, it taught me something.
Speaker A:And it's exactly what I want to share with you today.
Speaker A:Because if you've ever felt that same pressure or guilt around Bible study, this next part is going to bring you a lot of peace.
Speaker A:So let's start here.
Speaker A:You're struggling to hear God's voice.
Speaker A:And you may wonder if I spend time with God in a Bible study that you can hear Him.
Speaker A:You may be saying to yourself, I want a deeper relationship with Him.
Speaker A:But you're exhausted, you're overwhelmed.
Speaker A:And the thought of just sitting down for 30 minutes to an hour long Bible study to grow closer to God, it just seems unrealistic in this season of life that you're in.
Speaker A:And yes, you will grow closer to God and you'll have that deeper relationship with him and can hear his voice.
Speaker A:But it's not the only way to hear God's voice.
Speaker A:So having time set aside for a Bible study, it's wonderful.
Speaker A:And if you have the time and can add that in, that's terrific.
Speaker A:But it's not the only way that God speaks.
Speaker A:God, he knows your season, he knows your limitations, and he knows your desires, and he meets you right where you are.
Speaker A:So there isn't one single formula for hearing God's voice.
Speaker A:And that's why I want to talk about next where God often meets us in the day to day, in the quiet pockets that are already around us.
Speaker A:God meets you where you are and knows how best that you can hear his voice.
Speaker A:So there's no one way to hear God's voice.
Speaker A:Because if you think about it, we are all uniquely designed.
Speaker A:We are all created.
Speaker A:I am differently created from him because than the way you are uniquely created.
Speaker A:He designed us differently.
Speaker A:So therefore, if you think about it, he's going to talk to us.
Speaker A:And to hear God's voice, we're going to hear about maybe a little different ways than someone else.
Speaker A:Or you may hear from Him a little bit different than the way that I may hear from him because that's how he designed us.
Speaker A:And so he knows the best way that we can hear his voice.
Speaker A:Yes, we can hear him in scripture through a Bible study, but he knows the best way to hear him so he can speak to us through silence, stillness, and those quiet moments in our hearts.
Speaker A:So today I want to talk about hearing God in the silence.
Speaker A:Now, this is a common way for him to communicate with you.
Speaker A:And you can hear his voice in the silence.
Speaker A:You can hear God in the quiet pockets of your day.
Speaker A:So even if you're short on time and you're limited on time, because I know you are, it's just creating that space.
Speaker A:And we can find some space.
Speaker A:It can be getting up early in the morning before everyone wakes up, or you can wait until the family is asleep to spend time with Him.
Speaker A:Or maybe it's during nap time.
Speaker A:Perhaps it's when you're sitting with the cup of your favorite beverage and you're just looking out the window, trying to unwind.
Speaker A:In the Midwest states where I'm from, we're in the middle of fall.
Speaker A:Some days I turn on our gas fireplace and I like to just sit in my recliner watching the fireplace and speaking to God mentally in my head in the hours before the kids get up.
Speaker A:Or sometimes it's in the evenings.
Speaker A:And you might find that's a cozy, relaxing place for you so you can focus on Him.
Speaker A:Another way I like to create quiet time is with using flameless candles.
Speaker A:I turn on a few and I just sit in the silence.
Speaker A:It's creating that environment because even a few minutes like this can help clear your mind and opening your heart to hear Him.
Speaker A:And sometimes all you need is just a candle lit in the dark room and a moment of silence with Him.
Speaker A:And when your mind starts wondering, because it will, we want to gently bring it back saying his name, Jesus.
Speaker A:Since we talked about finding time for you and God, now let's talk about how to make space for God in the middle of all the noise.
Speaker A:Because in reality, that's what we face now.
Speaker A:If we do not quiet our minds from the clutter, how can God speak to us?
Speaker A:We need to quiet and clear all that clutter that is in our minds so that we have a place for.
Speaker A:For him to speak to us.
Speaker A:Because like I said, in today's world, there's just so many distractions and there's so many things that are just fighting for our tensions that we lose sight that God may be trying to speak to us in the silence.
Speaker A:And if our minds are never quieted, it's no wonder we struggle to hear Him.
Speaker A:Today's world, it's just filled with that constant distraction, constant noise, constant mental clutter.
Speaker A:And sometimes God is just Simply waiting us for a moment of silence to speak, creating that time like we talked about, but also the space for him to come speak to us.
Speaker A:So here's some ways that might work for you as well.
Speaker A:You can even create this space for him just by going out and walking and enjoying the beautiful surroundings around you.
Speaker A:When I had my daughter, I would push her in the stroller in silence and just doing a lot of deep thinking and I was talking to God.
Speaker A:Or even before I had my daughter, I would walk my dog Ellie in the silence.
Speaker A:We'd go around the neighborhood just in taking in the scenery and allowing God to speak to me that way.
Speaker A:Because sometimes I would hear God talk to me in the silence of my walks.
Speaker A:And you can even meet him in silence while you walk.
Speaker A:When you push your baby in a stroller, like I did when you take the dog out, maybe it's when you're on a short walk after dinner.
Speaker A:And some of the clearest moments of God's voice in my own life is when I would have those quiet walks with no noise in my ears, just his presence.
Speaker A:And sometimes it's honestly just walking around the house, letting my mind be free, having no mental clutter going on and thinking and just allowing that quiet time where I do hear him speak to me.
Speaker A:So if you're short on time and if you commute to work, turn off the radio for a few minutes, God gives you the space to break through that noise.
Speaker A:There are just so many ways that we can create pockets of time for God if we look for them and if we commit to it.
Speaker A:So to recap on this episode and truly anchor ourselves to silence, it's a real place that God speaks.
Speaker A:You don't need a long Bible study every day, just a quiet pocket of space where your heart can settle and notice your natural quiet pockets.
Speaker A:Those early morning, late nights, the commute, the stroller walks, the dog walks, your own personal quiet time of doing your daily walk and just gently re centering with his name, saying Jesus, when distractions pop up.
Speaker A:So let us pray.
Speaker A:In the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, God, we come before you asking to hear your voice so that you can guide us.
Speaker A:Please speak in clarity and allow us to hear your voice.
Speaker A:We know that you speak to us and how you know is the best for us to hear your voice.
Speaker A:We ask you this in the name of Jesus.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:In the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Amen.
Speaker A:Now let's take this from head to heart, from simply understanding it to actually living it out.
Speaker A:Today.
