Shownotes

Join Dr. David Spoon as he delves into the profound lessons from Abraham's journey in Genesis. This episode emphasizes the importance of seeking God's wisdom when faced with choices, highlighting the dangers of being drawn towards appealing yet sinful situations, as exemplified by Lot's decision to move near Sodom. Dr. Spoon encourages listeners to expand their vision and explore new possibilities in their lives, reflecting on how God promises blessings in every direction for those who trust in Him. The discussion also touches on the need for faith and the significance of building spiritual altars in our lives to deepen our connection with God. With a blend of personal anecdotes and biblical insights, this episode inspires a closer walk with the Lord and a commitment to exploring the abundant life He offers.

The narrative of Abraham and Lot serves as a compelling backdrop for a conversation about faith, wisdom, and the pursuit of God’s blessings. Dr. David Spoon articulates the complexities of human choice against the backdrop of divine guidance, emphasizing that true fulfillment comes from a relationship with God rather than from material gains. The episode begins by analyzing Lot’s ill-fated decision to settle near Sodom, a city marked by rampant wickedness. Spoon draws parallels between this biblical account and contemporary life, suggesting that many individuals today are similarly lured by superficial attractions without considering the spiritual ramifications of their choices.

Throughout the episode, Spoon invites his audience to reflect on their own decisions and encourages them to seek God’s wisdom before acting. He highlights the promise made to Abraham, illustrating how faith can lead to unimaginable blessings. By encouraging listeners to visualize their aspirations and to believe in God’s provision, Spoon fosters an atmosphere of hope and encouragement. He stresses the importance of acknowledging God in all aspects of life and building altars—both literal and metaphorical—as reminders of one’s commitment to faith. Ultimately, the episode serves as a clarion call to explore the vastness of God’s love and blessings, urging listeners to step out in faith and trust in His divine plan.

Exploring the themes of faith, decision-making, and the importance of spiritual commitment, Dr. David Spoon offers a rich and thought-provoking discourse on the story of Abraham and Lot. The episode opens with a dynamic introduction, capturing the listener's attention as Spoon sets the stage for a deeper exploration of biblical truths. He examines the pivotal moment when Lot chooses to settle near Sodom, a decision that ultimately leads to destruction, contrasting it with Abraham's faithfulness and obedience to God's promises. This narrative not only serves as a lesson in discernment but also as a reminder of the consequences of our choices.

Spoon further elaborates on the significance of the promises made to Abraham, inviting him to look in every direction and envision the blessings that await him. This moment becomes a powerful metaphor for believers today, encouraging them to broaden their horizons and trust in God’s provision. He articulates the necessity of building altars in our own lives—practices that symbolize our commitment to God and serve as reminders of His faithfulness. The episode concludes with an empowering message, urging listeners to take steps of faith, seek God’s wisdom, and explore new spiritual territories, reinforcing the idea that a vibrant relationship with God can transform lives and lead to abundant blessings.

Transcripts

David Spoon:

And now for something completely different.

David Spoon:

Here's what's coming up this hour on today's Experience.

David Spoon:

It's marvelous, monumental, most fascinating, massively mind bending Monday as we join our hearts and minds as one, drawing closer to the King of Kings and glorifying his name.

David Spoon:

First, we resume our teaching in Genesis, closing out chapter 13 starting with verse 12.

David Spoon:

Though Abraham stayed where he was while Lot moved on to Sodom.

David Spoon:

We talked about this.

David Spoon:

Clearly a lesson for us to be cautious about what we draw close to.

David Spoon:

Even though something may appear appealing, we need wisdom and guidance from the Lord.

David Spoon:

Cause there's great danger in getting too close to evil.

David Spoon:

Next, it turns out the people of Sodom, according to verse 13, were unusually wicked and deeply sinful against the Lord.

David Spoon:

There's a few cities that receive such a description.

David Spoon:

But the people in this area were overindulging in sin.

David Spoon:

Sexual immorality, homosexuality was pervasive in this city.

David Spoon:

And it was so severe that if you'll recall, God could not find 10 righteous people in the entire city.

David Spoon:

Finally, the Lord makes a promise to Abraham.

David Spoon:

Look in every direction you can.

David Spoon:

North, south, east, west.

David Spoon:

I'm going to give you this land.

David Spoon:

There was no direction to which Abraham could look where blessings did not await for him.

David Spoon:

It's really kind of cool.

David Spoon:

In fact, God instructed him to walk in every direction so he can see what he was going to be given.

David Spoon:

Abraham was so blessed and had such a great connection with God that he built an altar to the Lord.

David Spoon:

That's a powerful example for you and for me.

David Spoon:

And we should do things like that.

Speaker B:

2 David Spoon's life has been an experience.

Speaker B:

While growing up in a Jewish family, he made a wrong turn towards drug abuse.

Speaker B:

Then David Spoon found Jesus Christ and his life completely changed.

Speaker B:

The more he studied the gospel, the more he wanted to share his experiences with others.

Speaker B:

After 35 years of ministry, David discovered a new path of service.

Speaker B:

He joined KAAM and this radio program began.

Speaker B:

You're about to hear the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Welcome to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Local, national and heavenly talk.

David Spoon:

Here's what else we're looking at during the show.

David Spoon:

Lessons for surviving living and prevailing politics, entertainment and current events, personal revelations, spiritual observations, my life's insanities.

David Spoon:

Oy oy, oy vey.

David Spoon:

So much more.

David Spoon:

Now remember, it's not professional radio, it's just radio.

David Spoon:

And we want to talk to the speed racer of professional radio.

David Spoon:

That's right, because I saw a clip the other day.

David Spoon:

The speed racer.

David Spoon:

I know, but I just saw a clip and it stuck in My mind and I thought of you so I couldn't do anything about it.

David Spoon:

Jam and Jacob, the speed racer of professional Radio.

David Spoon:

Speed racer of professional Radio.

David Spoon:

Our very own Jam and Jacob is the David Spoon Experience Professional Radio.

Jim and Jacob:

No, it is not David.

David Spoon:

See, now, I thought you were gonna go, no, it's not, David.

David Spoon:

No, it's not.

David Spoon:

No, it's not David.

David Spoon:

Like that one.

David Spoon:

That's funny.

Jim and Jacob:

I could do that.

Jim and Jacob:

But now that you've done it, I can't talk that.

David Spoon:

That's a good one.

David Spoon:

Here's the bottom line.

David Spoon:

It's radio.

David Spoon:

I mean, yes, so it's radio.

David Spoon:

Big deal.

David Spoon:

We're all just talking to one another, connecting, sharing, loving, doing the best we can.

David Spoon:

That's the fun.

David Spoon:

That's the cool part.

David Spoon:

That's the fellowship.

David Spoon:

Remember, Laodicea never saw Paul's face.

David Spoon:

They still were blessed by each other's fellowship.

David Spoon:

Aha.

David Spoon:

So here we're going to bring it to you.

David Spoon:

We're going to ask you.

David Spoon:

Hey, I wanted to see how you're doing.

David Spoon:

What's going on.

David Spoon:

I said, like, we're going to pray for Amanda in just a few minutes and we will, but I want you to catch this first.

David Spoon:

You can send us an email.

David Spoon:

You can.

David Spoon:

I know.

David Spoon:

I mean, Joanne sent an email, then she sent a text.

David Spoon:

She's telling you right now, I can do email.

David Spoon:

I can do text.

David Spoon:

Aha.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Well, by golly, he's not just the speed racer Professional radio.

David Spoon:

But you'll end up talking to, jamming, talking to Jim and Jacob is knowing, just like this, that your spiritual radio family has your back.

David Spoon:

Aw.

Jim and Jacob:

Thank you, David.

Jim and Jacob:

Happy Monday.

David Spoon:

Happy Monday to you, my friend.

David Spoon:

Doesn't seem like I was even off on Friday.

David Spoon:

Cause I'm not feeling a lot of rust in the return to the seat.

David Spoon:

Doesn't seem like it does.

David Spoon:

It kinda seems all norm.

Jim and Jacob:

No, it doesn't seem like it sounded great.

David Spoon:

Sounds like it's all the norm, which of course is abnormal anyway.

David Spoon:

See, our normal is abnormal.

David Spoon:

So for us to be normal, it has to be abnormal.

David Spoon:

But then when normal is normal and it's not abnormal, then abnormal becomes normal and normal.

David Spoon:

Like that word solid.

David Spoon:

That was pretty good.

Jim and Jacob:

That made complete sense.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, it's really simplified.

David Spoon:

If you want to reach out to us by phone, if you want to text us, if you want to, in fact, send an email, do it.

David Spoon:

And it can be for appraised report, something you want to share, and we love it.

David Spoon:

It could be for a prayer request.

David Spoon:

Rosalind called in.

David Spoon:

She wants.

David Spoon:

It's her birthday.

David Spoon:

Happy birthday.

David Spoon:

She wants to get closer to the Lord.

David Spoon:

She wants to be more solid in him.

David Spoon:

With him so close to him, she's not falling behind or running ahead.

David Spoon:

Brilliant.

David Spoon:

That's what she wants.

David Spoon:

And that's a good thing.

David Spoon:

Of course we pray for that.

David Spoon:

Of course God says yes to that.

David Spoon:

Maybe it could be something that just blessed you, really encouraged you, really got insightful on, or just really, really understand it and appreciate it.

David Spoon:

Totally cool.

David Spoon:

Maybe you have an answer to Bible trivia.

David Spoon:

We'll give you this shot right off the bat.

David Spoon:

So let's get ready for a Bible trivia.

David Spoon:

Before we do that, though, I do want to pray for Amanda and for John and for Nancy, for their family, just to get prayer.

David Spoon:

So let's just pray for them briefly.

David Spoon:

Just don't close your eyes while you're driving.

David Spoon:

Just stretch out your faith, have it meet mine.

David Spoon:

Then we'll have more faith bringing this prayer to the Lord.

David Spoon:

Everything we bring to the Lord, we'll.

David Spoon:

We absolutely believe he can do it.

David Spoon:

We tell him what we want, but we surrender it into his awesome hands.

David Spoon:

That's what we do.

David Spoon:

So let's pray.

David Spoon:

Father, we come before you right now.

David Spoon:

We lift up Nancy and John too, who are trying to make sure their daughter is okay.

David Spoon:

And that is not a fun scenario.

David Spoon:

Going through any kind of biopsy, going through any kind of element that is trying to determine if there's something cancerous or something more going on.

David Spoon:

Lord, it's uncomfortable.

David Spoon:

It's uncomfortable for any parent.

David Spoon:

It's uncomfortable for any brother or sister, let alone a parent of a child.

David Spoon:

So we ask you to bring comfort not just to Amanda, who needs that, but to John and to Nancy.

David Spoon:

And you would bless them and encourage them, that you would pour yourself upon them and they would have a sense or a confidence that you are not departing from the family, but that you're with them and you would love on them and encourage them.

David Spoon:

And now we're going to ask you something else.

David Spoon:

Lord, we want you to Heal her.

David Spoon:

We want you to heal Amanda.

David Spoon:

It doesn't even matter.

David Spoon:

We want to see healing.

David Spoon:

You can do anything.

David Spoon:

That's exactly what Jesus, what you demonstrated in the garden of Gethsemane.

David Spoon:

That's exactly what you said.

David Spoon:

All things are possible for you, Father.

David Spoon:

And then you petitioned.

David Spoon:

This is our petition.

David Spoon:

Heal Amanda.

David Spoon:

If there's anything there, eradicate it, eliminate it, destroy it, get rid of it.

David Spoon:

We know better than to tell you what to do.

David Spoon:

We ask this before you and we surrender it into your hands.

David Spoon:

And we trust you for the perfect answer because that's what our faith is, Lord, a genuine trust in you.

David Spoon:

So help Amanda specifically physically help the family with comfort and encouragement as we lift them up to your throne.

David Spoon:

And thank you for your grace and pray in Jesus name.

David Spoon:

Amen.

David Spoon:

And amen.

David Spoon:

All right, now we're going to get into our trivia question.

David Spoon:

Get ready.

David Spoon:

Get your trivia brains ready.

David Spoon:

Which psalm begins with the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want?

David Spoon:

Is that Psalm 1, Psalm 15, Psalm 23, or Psalm 40?

David Spoon:

Which Psalm begins with the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want Psalm 1, Psalm 15, Psalm 23, or Psalm 40?

David Spoon:

If you think you know the answer, you can reach out to us.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Or send an email davidemustincrease.org the trivia question, straightforward, not complex.

David Spoon:

Which psalm begins with the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want?

David Spoon:

Psalm 1, Psalm 15, Psalm 23, or Psalm 40.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, I want to give a praise report that came from Jeanette from last week.

David Spoon:

We were praying for her pastor and his wife.

David Spoon:

They both fell on the ice last weekend.

David Spoon:

Nobody wanted them to be really injured because falling on ice can hurt.

David Spoon:

I've done it a ton of times, thank you very much.

David Spoon:

A ton of times.

David Spoon:

And she did send me an email on Thursday, but I didn't get a chance to read it before the show was over that they are both feeling fine and doing well.

David Spoon:

So you want to be praying for pastors, people that are in charge of flocks, so to speak, pastors and so on and so forth.

David Spoon:

They got a big target on their back, so be praying for them.

David Spoon:

A lot of warfare they go through.

David Spoon:

Get that?

David Spoon:

All right, all right.

David Spoon:

Your trivia question, which is rather straightforward, which psalm begins the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want?

David Spoon:

Is that Psalm 1, Psalm 15, Psalm 23, or Psalm 40.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, we will go to our DNA.

David Spoon:

D stands for draw closer to the Lord daily.

David Spoon:

Now that word is an interesting word.

David Spoon:

It's a word that ends with Y, daily does.

David Spoon:

But then so does Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

David Spoon:

They all end with yes.

David Spoon:

So I say there's a connection between the word daily and then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

David Spoon:

Therefore we should spend time with the Lord.

David Spoon:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

David Spoon:

That is my conclusion.

David Spoon:

I rest my case.

David Spoon:

Okay, there you go.

David Spoon:

Like that.

David Spoon:

I did a little lawyering there.

David Spoon:

D Draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

People are like, well, that's.

David Spoon:

They don't know that was written by.

David Spoon:

Okay, let's get this straight.

David Spoon:

God created the universe.

David Spoon:

The dude can write a book.

David Spoon:

Can we please move on for the silliness?

David Spoon:

Well, but these people did this.

David Spoon:

God created the universe.

David Spoon:

The dude can write a book.

David Spoon:

Stop.

David Spoon:

Okay, Stop.

David Spoon:

Never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

to Revelation:

David Spoon:

Get it?

David Spoon:

Okay, there you go.

David Spoon:

Never be ashamed of Jesus or his words or he'll be ashamed of you.

David Spoon:

And that's a no win situation.

David Spoon:

D Draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

A.

David Spoon:

Always be ready.

Jim and Jacob:

To serve.

David Spoon:

I mean, ready to serve.

David Spoon:

Ready, ready.

David Spoon:

I mean, I can't believe how many times that word ready.

David Spoon:

It's just, it's in there so many times in the New Testament, especially in the Gospels.

David Spoon:

I am just encouraging everybody to do a better job at being ready by having less of a selfish focus.

David Spoon:

That's the way you go about it.

David Spoon:

If everything is always.

David Spoon:

I mean, if you're stuck in the movie Nemo when all the birds were waiting for some food and, and they're really going, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me.

David Spoon:

You're not helping.

David Spoon:

We need to kingdom wise be aware that it is not about us, it's about others.

David Spoon:

And the Lord wants us to have that mindset.

David Spoon:

It doesn't mean you never think of yourself to God by being aware that other people need him and you want to be a part of that.

David Spoon:

You want to be a part of that connection.

David Spoon:

Just be ready.

David Spoon:

Little less on us, little more on everybody else around us.

David Spoon:

That's how you do it.

David Spoon:

So.

David Spoon:

D Draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

A always be ready to serve.

David Spoon:

There you go.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Which psalm begins with the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want Psalm 1, Psalm 15, Psalm 23, or Psalm 40.

David Spoon:

If you think you know you can reach out to us.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

To the text.

David Spoon:

We go into the book of Genesis.

David Spoon:

We go.

David Spoon:

We're getting to these parts in Genesis now.

David Spoon:

I don't know if you've noticed, but on certain books I'll slow down in certain sections because there's so much there.

David Spoon:

It's kind of what we're doing now.

David Spoon:

And in fact, in Revelation, when we get through the churches, we're about four weeks away from getting through the churches.

David Spoon:

I have decided I'm going to, instead of teaching all four main ideas, I'm actually going to teach two of them simultaneously.

David Spoon:

I think that will work out better.

David Spoon:

We'll talk about that a little down the road, but.

David Spoon:

Road.

David Spoon:

But let's get back to this.

David Spoon:

This is where Abraham and Lot have separated.

David Spoon:

And what I want you to be aware of I just had a chance to talk to my family about this is we were sitting there, we were having breakfast, and I said, you know, it's amazing because Abraham got the promise from God.

David Spoon:

So you guys, you think you're the only people that have to hear my stuff?

David Spoon:

My family does too.

David Spoon:

And so he got the promise from God, but he was willing to say, you pick the land.

David Spoon:

Whatever you pick, I'll go the opposite direction.

David Spoon:

I'm going to make this nice.

David Spoon:

I'm going to make it right.

David Spoon:

I'm going to help you out.

David Spoon:

I'm going to take whatever.

David Spoon:

And of course, Lot picked the Sodom and Gomorrah direction, which turned out to be a totally dumb idea.

David Spoon:

But he chose the land for.

David Spoon:

It's exactly how it says in the scripture.

David Spoon:

He chose the land for himself, didn't consider others, just chose what was best for him.

David Spoon:

I get the biggest piece of pie.

David Spoon:

Yay.

David Spoon:

Not knowing in that case that that piece of pie had a worm in.

David Spoon:

And now we're just at that point where now God is going to respond back to Abraham for what he just did.

David Spoon:

Because Abraham was accommodating, was kind, trusted God for the promise, and didn't have any fear at that point right then and there, just believed God was going to direct him.

David Spoon:

So before we get into that, we do have somebody on the phone.

David Spoon:

Then I assume they want to answer the trivia question, so let's send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock, knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

David Spoon:

Hello, David.

David Spoon:

This is Curtis, my brother.

David Spoon:

Hello, Curtis.

David Spoon:

How are you, bro?

David Spoon:

Man, I'm doing fine on a chilly Monday.

David Spoon:

I told Jacob I was out making deliveries in the chilly weather, but I love it.

David Spoon:

That's what I do.

David Spoon:

It's nice to be out and about.

David Spoon:

You know, it is nice to be out.

David Spoon:

It is cold, but I'm much more thankful that it's cold and not icy.

David Spoon:

I mean, the cold is.

David Spoon:

The icy is the thing that's like.

David Spoon:

I don't want my car driving sideways while I think I'm supposed to be going forward.

David Spoon:

Yeah, that's the truth.

David Spoon:

I don't mind the cold weather as long as it's not frosted over.

David Spoon:

Exactly.

David Spoon:

I mean, that's my biggest concern out of all that.

David Spoon:

All right, my friend, let me set it up for you, and then you can knock it out.

David Spoon:

I have a strong suspicion you will get where you need to get to which psalm begins, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

David Spoon:

That would be 23, David.

David Spoon:

That is correct among you.

David Spoon:

You are right.

David Spoon:

That is Psalm 23, and that is so powerful.

David Spoon:

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

David Spoon:

If any of us could just get there and not just read it, but do it.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

You know what?

David Spoon:

God's my shepherd.

David Spoon:

I'm totally cool.

David Spoon:

Everything's fine.

David Spoon:

That would be an awesome place of faith for all of us to walk in.

David Spoon:

Oh, absolutely.

Jim and Jacob:

Absolutely.

David Spoon:

Absolutely.

David Spoon:

Excellent.

David Spoon:

Excellent job.

David Spoon:

Now, you need to stay safe out there.

David Spoon:

Even though it's cold.

David Spoon:

You need to be careful, okay?

David Spoon:

I sure will, David.

David Spoon:

God bless you, my brother.

David Spoon:

It's always a pleasure.

David Spoon:

Mine as well, brother.

David Spoon:

God bless you as well.

David Spoon:

Thank you, David.

David Spoon:

Bye bye.

David Spoon:

All righty.

David Spoon:

See you.

David Spoon:

Gotta love that.

David Spoon:

We love stuff.

David Spoon:

We love fellowship.

David Spoon:

It's fun.

David Spoon:

All right, here we go.

David Spoon:

Let's go back to this increase.

David Spoon:

Just a nice guy, you know?

David Spoon:

It's nice when people are nice people.

David Spoon:

It's nice.

David Spoon:

All right, going back to verse 12.

David Spoon:

So while Abraham stayed in the land of Canaan, Lot moved his tents to a place near Sodom among the city of the plain.

David Spoon:

The people of this area were unusually wicked and sinned greatly against the Lord.

David Spoon:

So there is a lesson here.

David Spoon:

I'm not going to drill down on it for four hours because I don't think that's really necessary.

David Spoon:

But I do think we need to understand something about that situation that is applicable and that is Sometimes we connect to something that might just seem appealing.

David Spoon:

And you and I need to be more careful.

David Spoon:

Most scams that are financial are what, Very appealing.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

Abraham stayed where he was.

David Spoon:

Lot moves closer to Sodom.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

Clearly a lesson of probably should have checked that out before you went into that.

David Spoon:

Allured by what he thought was a better scenario.

David Spoon:

Didn't, as far as we can tell, petition God.

David Spoon:

I mean, it could be there.

David Spoon:

I'm just not seeing it.

David Spoon:

And so the truth is, when we make a decision, appealing or not, we need to ask God for wisdom and guidance because there can be something hidden.

David Spoon:

It's almost like, okay, you get to choose an apple to eat, right?

David Spoon:

Well, look at that apple that looks the biggest.

David Spoon:

I'm going to eat that for myself.

David Spoon:

And everybody else can have the smaller apple.

David Spoon:

That sounds great.

David Spoon:

Again, unless there's a worm in it, then not so great.

David Spoon:

So sometimes it's better to slow it down and say, lord, you know what?

David Spoon:

I might not make the best choice here, but I want to first bring it to you and ask for your wisdom.

David Spoon:

If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all men generously and without finding fault.

David Spoon:

Which means God doesn't sit there and rip you apart when you're asking for wisdom.

David Spoon:

He doesn't sit there and tell you all your dumb, dumb things.

David Spoon:

He doesn't sit there and make you feel like an idiot because you've done dumb, dumb things.

David Spoon:

And you and I have all done dumb, dumb things.

David Spoon:

If you ask God for wisdom and you want to do it because he's connected to you and you want to honor him, you can ask him.

David Spoon:

And if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all men generously.

David Spoon:

He doesn't withhold it.

David Spoon:

He gives it generously and without finding fault.

David Spoon:

He's not looking to rip you to shreds.

David Spoon:

That's how you need to approach your seeking for the wisdom of the Lord.

David Spoon:

It would be tough for me to be convinced that lot did that not say he did or didn't, just not in the scripture.

David Spoon:

But it sure would have helped his life if he did.

David Spoon:

Wouldn't it be a different altogether?

David Spoon:

Everything right?

David Spoon:

We'll take a short break and then we'll come back.

David Spoon:

You are listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Short break.

David Spoon:

We'll be back.

David Spoon:

Don't go anywhere.

David Spoon:

And that's no bull.

David Spoon:

Um, Dave, this is a nice radio station.

David Spoon:

Oops, sorry.

David Spoon:

That's cow punch sites $57 a month and that's no bologna there.

David Spoon:

That's better.

David Spoon:

Cowpunch sites.com dad, what is the David Spoon experience?

David Spoon:

Do you think it's been organizational leadership has been a good thing for church leaders?

Speaker B:

I'll tell you it's a penetrating question.

Speaker B:

The answer is very simple.

Speaker B:

If used correctly to add value to people and serve others, it's a good thing.

Speaker B:

If used incorrectly, it's not a good thing.

Speaker B:

And you know, when people talk about everything rises and falls on leadership, I teach them often that it rises, but it also falls.

Speaker B:

And nothing is better than for people to have a good leader.

Speaker B:

And nothing's worse than for people to have a bad leader.

Speaker B:

And to me, what makes servant leadership work is this.

Speaker B:

Most leaders put themselves first before their people.

Speaker B:

And so it is is a me motivation as far as leading, what's in it for me?

Speaker B:

I travel internationally with my company Equip and in fact I'll leave Sunday for Guatemala.

Speaker B:

In fact, I'll be meeting next week with the president and the cabinet of Guatemala.

Speaker B:

When I'm with these leaders alone, David, alone, I mean, no handlers, no media, nothing, but just alone.

Speaker B:

The question I ask them, which is I think the true service leadership question is will the people be better off after you've served your term as a leader than they were before you got there.

David Spoon:

Wow.

Speaker B:

And I think that's.

Speaker B:

And when the answer is yes, you have been a good leader, it has been a good thing.

Speaker B:

Organizational leadership, good thing.

Speaker B:

When the answer is no, Bad leader, bad thing.

David Spoon:

Oh.

David Spoon:

Welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at Kaam 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

That's Ka Man 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Here we go with your next trivia question.

David Spoon:

Kind of an easy one, but you still have to be on top of it.

David Spoon:

Our time is tighter, so if you're gonna answer, you just gotta be quicker.

David Spoon:

That's all we're telling you.

David Spoon:

What book immediately follows the book of Hebrews in the New Testament?

David Spoon:

What book immediately follows the book of Hebrews in the New Testament?

David Spoon:

If you think you know, you can reach out to us.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Or you can send an email.

David Spoon:

Davidemustincrease.org Just a FYI, I will not be getting back to everybody on their texts till about 4:30 today.

David Spoon:

I'm just telling you that ahead of time.

David Spoon:

So, you know, and then Noelle and I, she's gonna get home closer to 4:30 like I am and we're gonna take a few minutes just to hang out because we've had family for weeks and weeks and months and months and years and years.

David Spoon:

Oh my.

David Spoon:

Anyway, that's how it feels.

David Spoon:

All right, so your trivia question.

David Spoon:

What book in the New Testament immediately follows the book of Hebrews?

David Spoon:

That's your question.

David Spoon:

See if you can get to that answer.

David Spoon:

Reach out to us.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, we are going to do, even though I do it with a tear, Jake's take.

David Spoon:

You got a dirge there.

David Spoon:

You can play for me.

David Spoon:

What do you got for me, brother?

David Spoon:

I told everybody you'd be playing that.

David Spoon:

What do you got?

David Spoon:

Give us the, give us the, let's.

Jim and Jacob:

Do the double Debbie Downer there.

David Spoon:

Talk to everybody.

David Spoon:

Tell everybody what happened.

Jim and Jacob:

Well, David, the Detroit Lions played the Washington commander Saturday night to a disappointing end of the Lions season.

Jim and Jacob:

And Dave, how much of the game did you watch?

David Spoon:

All of it, unfortunately.

Jim and Jacob:

Okay.

Jim and Jacob:

So yeah, I was telling you before the show.

Jim and Jacob:

I watched the first half and it was, it was a back and forth game, close.

Jim and Jacob:

And then I, you know, I had to run an errand and I came back and Washington was up and I was just thinking, well, this is the Thanksgiving line.

Jim and Jacob:

Thanksgiving line showed up.

David Spoon:

Why that's funny is Rob was my friend.

David Spoon:

I sent him a text.

David Spoon:

I sent him the exact same line.

David Spoon:

I know that's right.

David Spoon:

But Jacob and I didn't talk about it.

David Spoon:

I said this is the Thanksgiving Lions once again, because I'm so used to seeing them play that way.

David Spoon:

They had a phenomenal year.

David Spoon:

And I will say football was much more fun for me this year because it seemed like there was less political rubbish, and that just seemed like the whole thing was better.

David Spoon:

But I must tell everybody the truth.

David Spoon:

All four of the teams that I were rooting for on Saturday and Sunday, all four of them lost.

Jim and Jacob:

Yes, Houston lost, the Ravens lost, Lions lost, and then the Rams lost.

Jim and Jacob:

So, yeah, you went over 4, David.

David Spoon:

I went 0 for 4.

David Spoon:

So Jacob is in.

David Spoon:

In fact, he is the winner for our football.

David Spoon:

Who did better this year because I was being honest about it.

David Spoon:

0 for 4.

David Spoon:

That takes me out.

Jim and Jacob:

I could hit the applause sound, but it's okay.

Jim and Jacob:

I know, I know the Lions didn't play well Saturday, so I'll go ahead and I won't hit the applause and rub it in.

David Spoon:

All right, so you know the old saying, there's always next year.

David Spoon:

And my attitude, I hope the Lord comes back before there is a next year.

David Spoon:

That's my attitude.

David Spoon:

But.

Jim and Jacob:

Well, one of my picks.

Jim and Jacob:

So my super bowl matchup that I wanted was Bills versus Lions.

Jim and Jacob:

So the Bills are still alive.

Jim and Jacob:

They played Kansas City this weekend, but fortunately the lines are out.

David Spoon:

Yeah, it's that.

David Spoon:

But you know what?

David Spoon:

Fun.

David Spoon:

It was fun for us, too.

David Spoon:

We had a good time.

Jim and Jacob:

Yes, it was fun.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

So just keep that in mind.

David Spoon:

All right, let me go back to the trivia question.

David Spoon:

Then I'm going to get into the teaching, and we got to be super tight on our time.

David Spoon:

Here it is, your trivia question.

David Spoon:

What book immediately follows the book of Hebrews in the New Testament?

David Spoon:

Immediately follows it.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

And so here we are.

David Spoon:

And it's actually Abram.

David Spoon:

And I know it's Abram, but I've been calling him Abraham for 45 years, and sometimes that gets a little goofy.

David Spoon:

So if that is offensive to you, you can just receive or give me forgiveness.

David Spoon:

That would be great.

David Spoon:

Here is what happens next.

David Spoon:

So while Abraham stayed in the land of Canaan, Lot moved his tents to a place near Sodom, the city we already talked about.

David Spoon:

The people of Syria were unusually wicked and sinned greatly against the Lord.

David Spoon:

There are some people in the insanity realm of theology.

David Spoon:

Did I Say that out loud.

David Spoon:

I think I did.

David Spoon:

There are some people in the insanity realm of theology somehow have interpreted Sodom and Gomorrah's sin as they were inhospitable, even though there are one specific New Testament, three other Old Testament references to the fact that they were sinning excessively through sexual immorality and homosexuality.

David Spoon:

Period.

David Spoon:

Sin, period.

David Spoon:

Don't like it?

David Spoon:

Tough.

David Spoon:

That's what it says.

David Spoon:

Gotta change it to make somebody happy.

David Spoon:

It's a sin.

David Spoon:

So is adultery.

David Spoon:

So is fornication.

David Spoon:

All of it's a sin.

David Spoon:

Nobody should be denying any of that.

David Spoon:

And then people say, well, you don't hear people talking about adultery.

David Spoon:

Those people who say that obviously never go to church.

David Spoon:

It's just obvious.

David Spoon:

Here's what I'm trying to say.

David Spoon:

These people were loaded with sin.

David Spoon:

So much sin, you couldn't find 10 righteous people when it came time for the judgment, which included lot in that assessment.

David Spoon:

This is where Abraham does that deal a little later on in the text, and he says, hey, find 50 righteous people of your spirit.

David Spoon:

30.

David Spoon:

Good bargainer.

David Spoon:

30.

David Spoon:

20.

David Spoon:

10.

David Spoon:

Okay, 10.

David Spoon:

We'll go with 10.

David Spoon:

All right, great.

David Spoon:

So the idea behind that, though, is these guys are really, really, really bad and they're committing these sinful acts.

David Spoon:

And what people are trying to do in society today is whitewash the sinfulness.

David Spoon:

Do you know that stating something that's not true is still a lie?

David Spoon:

Do you know in politics they say, well, you don't want to call him a liar.

David Spoon:

Well, if he states something that he knows is not true, it's a lie.

David Spoon:

And so what they want to do is they want to downsize the seriousness of sins.

David Spoon:

It's the seriousness of sins that made it so we needed a redeemer for ourselves and for the entire ecosystem and for nature itself.

David Spoon:

And it's like, you don't downplay it.

David Spoon:

Sin is sin.

David Spoon:

It's offensive to God.

David Spoon:

Spilt innocent blood is pollution in the land.

David Spoon:

Spilt innocent blood.

David Spoon:

God doesn't go spilt innocent blood if they're born out of the womb.

David Spoon:

Spilt innocent blood is a sin, period.

David Spoon:

That's it.

David Spoon:

You argue all you want.

David Spoon:

Nope.

David Spoon:

That's how it goes.

David Spoon:

And so trying to call these things that aren't sin, that are sin, not sin, is absurd.

David Spoon:

And that is, what can I tell you at its core, what that is?

David Spoon:

That's going back to the garden.

David Spoon:

And I want you to recognize this because Satan does this to Christians still.

David Spoon:

Oh, that's not so bad.

David Spoon:

Yay.

David Spoon:

Did God really say that.

David Spoon:

That's not really what he meant.

David Spoon:

Don't do this.

David Spoon:

If you do this, it's sin.

David Spoon:

If you do it, you'll breach the commands.

David Spoon:

If you do it, you'll bring death and destruction.

David Spoon:

Oh, that's not what God meant.

David Spoon:

No way.

David Spoon:

Sin is sin.

David Spoon:

And we are blessed, graced, that God has forgiven us for all of our sin.

David Spoon:

It doesn't matter what those sins are if you've done it.

David Spoon:

But you come before the Lord and you're earnest and you're honest.

David Spoon:

Bam.

David Spoon:

The grace and the goodness of God is there for those that have a truly repentant heart.

David Spoon:

The apostle Paul was a murderer and he sought the forgiveness and received it by the grace of God, period.

David Spoon:

It's not that you don't call it a sin, but you don't just leave it there and leave people out in the lurch.

David Spoon:

You let them know there is a solution to that darkness, and it will be the healing balm that will save your life.

David Spoon:

Get that?

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

We need to stay on track.

David Spoon:

People are like, you talk about sin too much.

David Spoon:

I don't talk about sin enough.

David Spoon:

As far as I'm concerned.

David Spoon:

I love the redemption.

David Spoon:

I love the story.

David Spoon:

But you got to know why we need to be redeemed.

David Spoon:

We blew it.

David Spoon:

But God, in his mercy, protects us and gets us through.

David Spoon:

And yes, there's healing for when we've done the worst of things, because God is merciful, that's for sure.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

What book in the New Testament immediately follows the book of Hebrews?

David Spoon:

Your answer, by the way.

David Spoon:

Are you ready?

David Spoon:

You should like this.

David Spoon:

For all the favored ones who like the older Bible, James, as in King James.

David Spoon:

James immediately follows the book of Hebrews.

David Spoon:

We'll take a break here and then come back.

David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Short break.

David Spoon:

We'll be back.

David Spoon:

Don't go anywhere.

David Spoon:

Like any person searching for answers, I too have wondered about him.

David Spoon:

He has a weird sense of humor.

David Spoon:

If people are seeking wisdom and insight from the great teachers around the world, would they go to David?

David Spoon:

No, I don't think so.

David Spoon:

Those big ears really don't help.

David Spoon:

Will people enjoy his perspective on culture, politics, food, sports, and local and national news?

Speaker B:

I don't know.

David Spoon:

He's just a client.

David Spoon:

Tune in to the David Spoon Experience on kaam.

Speaker B:

The David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

And that hope that is offered to us is something that's supposed to greatly encourage us.

David Spoon:

Jesus brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, through the gospel that Jesus died on the cross, he was buried and three days later he rose again.

David Spoon:

And by faith in the testimony of God, you can live forever.

David Spoon:

That hope is offered to us.

David Spoon:

If that hope is offered to you and you have not yet accepted, acknowledged and surrendered to it, I ask you to do so right this second.

David Spoon:

I don't even care if you do a fancy prayer, just say, God save me in Jesus name.

David Spoon:

You will be saved if you believe that Jesus Christ died on that cross, was buried three days later, he rose again and you surrender your heart to Jesus Christ, turning from where you were and turning to him, you will find life.

David Spoon:

Right now you might be out there thinking there's no way it can be that easy.

David Spoon:

Wrong.

David Spoon:

But you have to receive it.

David Spoon:

You have to surrender to it.

David Spoon:

You have to acknowledge God's testimony and say yes to Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

Doesn't matter what the world says, doesn't matter what your friends say, doesn't matter what any other family member says.

David Spoon:

It only matters for your decision before God in regards to his testimony relating to Jesus Christ and your sins.

David Spoon:

And that's the hope that is offered to us.

David Spoon:

And we can be greatly encouraged by that.

David Spoon:

And that hope is an anchor to our soul.

David Spoon:

That anchor makes it so that even if the winds are heavy and the waves are intense, we don't get tossed and lost.

David Spoon:

That there is some stability, that there is some.

David Spoon:

There is some strength.

David Spoon:

And you can't be like these people that have no hope.

David Spoon:

All there is is this life and there's nothing else.

David Spoon:

That's why they're trying to sin their brains out.

David Spoon:

Because they don't think there's anything else left.

David Spoon:

But they're going to die and face God and he's going to ask regarding his account that he's given in relationship to Jesus Christ.

David Spoon:

And they're going to have to answer.

David Spoon:

And if they have rejected, then they will be as they have placed themselves as people with no hope.

David Spoon:

But if you're a person that has not made that decision to say yes to Jesus Christ, make that decision right now.

David Spoon:

Welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at KAAMC, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

That's K double Amen 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Your next trivia question.

David Spoon:

First Hezekiah, is that in the Old Testament, the New Testament or neither?

David Spoon:

First Hezekiah, is that in the Old Testament, the New Testament or neither?

David Spoon:

If you think you know the answer.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Or send an email davidemustincrease.org all right, in the meantime, we're gonna send you up to the website.

David Spoon:

Let's talk about this real quickly.

David Spoon:

We've had four weeks in a row where I was on Christmas.

David Spoon:

We weren't there for two days.

David Spoon:

New Year's one day, then the snow week three days, then last week one day.

David Spoon:

So why I'm trying to bring that up is we've had four of the very toughest weeks we've ever had and we are still here.

David Spoon:

Praise the Lord.

David Spoon:

But if you're able to give, we would really appreciate you considering it and praying about it.

David Spoon:

You do not have to give to enjoy anything from the ministry.

David Spoon:

We do want you to give to your home base always.

David Spoon:

But we think it's important to understand that God loves cheerful givers.

David Spoon:

And if you are able to do so or want to do so, then awesome.

David Spoon:

Do it.

David Spoon:

You're not going to get a whistle or a Lamborghini.

David Spoon:

You're just going to get a receipt at the end of the year.

David Spoon:

Which, by the way, most everybody should have their receipt by now.

David Spoon:

And if you didn't get it, reach out to me.

David Spoon:

We'll quote 2 Corinthians 9, 6, 7.

David Spoon:

The point is this.

David Spoon:

Whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly.

David Spoon:

Whoever sows bountifully will reap bountifully.

David Spoon:

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly and not under compulsion.

David Spoon:

For God loves a cheerful giver.

David Spoon:

Just remember that.

David Spoon:

That's the key.

David Spoon:

If you can do it, great.

David Spoon:

If you can't, you can pray for us.

David Spoon:

And we know that's something you can do.

David Spoon:

Check it all out on the website.

David Spoon:

Plus there is a new audio up there called no Compromise.

David Spoon:

Check it all out on hemustincrease.org prayer request.

David Spoon:

Hemostincrease.org praise report.

David Spoon:

Hemustincrease.org looking to give to this ministry.

David Spoon:

Hemustincrease.org confused by what's happening right now.

David Spoon:

He must increase.org hemustincrease.org from the Valley of the Jolly Ho ho ho, Green Giant.

David Spoon:

You know, I gotta say what's very funny about that play is after the family was there, I need to have more vegetables.

David Spoon:

Bruce and Julie ordered steaks there, so they probably had a little more meat than we normally do.

David Spoon:

It was delicious.

David Spoon:

But that's not the point.

David Spoon:

The point is they probably should use a few vegetables.

David Spoon:

What's that saying?

David Spoon:

Hey, eat a salad every once in a while.

David Spoon:

Okay, There.

David Spoon:

There it is.

David Spoon:

All right, we've already told you what the trivia question is.

David Spoon:

It's first Hezekiah.

David Spoon:

Is that in the Old Testament, the New Testament, or neither?

David Spoon:

You can reach out to us.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Davidemustincreased.org is in fact the email.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, we will start this with Histori.

David Spoon:

Let's go.

David Spoon:

Let's take him the past.

David Spoon:

Let's go.

David Spoon:

Let's go.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

I thought this was fascinating, so I did want to do it.

David Spoon:

In:

Jim and Jacob:

That's scary.

David Spoon:

I never going there.

David Spoon:

Just never.

David Spoon:

I don't even care if it's in the summertime, it's beautiful.

David Spoon:

Not a chance.

David Spoon:

I just wouldn't even do it.

David Spoon:

Not gonna happen.

David Spoon:

Also in:

David Spoon:

d the first roller coaster in:

Jim and Jacob:

Are you a big roller coaster person?

David Spoon:

No, I did one.

David Spoon:

I used to.

David Spoon:

I used to like them, and then I stopped liking them.

David Spoon:

And then Noel said, I really like them.

David Spoon:

And so we went a couple of times.

David Spoon:

But then as she was getting older, she was like, stopped liking them.

David Spoon:

So now I don't have to worry about it.

David Spoon:

I mean, I went on all of them.

David Spoon:

I mean, as far as I can do.

David Spoon:

The only thing I think I never went on was the.

David Spoon:

I didn't go to the one in Vegas where they drop you off the edge of the thing.

David Spoon:

That was not my.

David Spoon:

There's that one Stratosphere or whatever that is that they literally drop you off.

David Spoon:

It's like, yeah, I didn't do that.

David Spoon:

Not my.

David Spoon:

Not my cup.

David Spoon:

Ot.

Jim and Jacob:

I'm not a big roller coaster person either.

Jim and Jacob:

I'm.

Jim and Jacob:

Yeah, I never have been.

Jim and Jacob:

I'll ride them, but I'm not.

Jim and Jacob:

I'm not running to get on all the roller coasters, like at Six Flags, just.

David Spoon:

Yeah, I like the watery log ones.

David Spoon:

I like some of those.

David Spoon:

And then, I mean, I'm not gonna say, but I mean, the Jurassic park ride is great.

David Spoon:

Rye.

David Spoon:

I mean, there's some things that are really great, but, eh, eh, give me some wings and pizza.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Anyway.

David Spoon:

Oh, speaking of wonderful food that you should always bring up on a radio show, today is National Cheese Lover Day.

David Spoon:

I don't know how you can go wrong with that.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

Can't have pizza without cheese.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

And it's also National Butter Crunch Day.

David Spoon:

So you're thinking maybe, you know, butterfingers kind of thing.

David Spoon:

So great.

David Spoon:

Got a couple of those in, didn't we?

Jim and Jacob:

It's funny because right before we did history, you were saying, eat a salad.

David Spoon:

And then I talk about candy.

David Spoon:

I'm bad.

David Spoon:

All right, what do you want?

David Spoon:

Hezza First Hezekiah, Old Testament, New Testament, or in?

David Spoon:

Neither.

David Spoon:

If you think, you know, I got to get into this teaching because this is wild.

David Spoon:

I don't know if we'll break or not.

David Spoon:

We'll have to see.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

So this is after Lot and Abraham, they separate.

David Spoon:

We've already talked about Sodom and Gomorrah.

David Spoon:

We've already talked about Lot probably could have used a little more wisdom in his decision making.

David Spoon:

It says this in verse 14, after lot was gone, the Lord said to Abram, look as far as you can see in every direction, I am going to give all this land to you and to your offspring as a permanent possession.

David Spoon:

I am going to give you so many descendants that, like dust, they could never be counted.

David Spoon:

So I want to stop there because people will always make reference to when Abraham, when God says, look at the stars.

David Spoon:

And then they always go, well, there was less stars out, and it was just so, so dumb.

David Spoon:

That had nothing to do with it.

David Spoon:

Here God saying, look, I'm going to give you more descendants than there can be than dust.

David Spoon:

You tell me how much dust there is.

David Spoon:

Great.

David Spoon:

See how silly that kind of thing is?

David Spoon:

That's not what's happening.

David Spoon:

What's happening is God is telling him, look, you have faith in me, and I love that you have faith in me.

David Spoon:

I love you that you have faith in me after Lot was gone, which I don't know if that's a key component or not, but sometimes there's some people in our lives, even family, that you could stand to do a little distance from.

David Spoon:

Doesn't mean that I'm pro family.

David Spoon:

Don't get the wrong idea, but there's some people that maybe influenced you and family that maybe you got to be a little more careful in.

David Spoon:

Fine.

David Spoon:

But after that happens, God says, I want you to look in every direction.

David Spoon:

I'm going to give all this land to you and to your offspring, by the way.

David Spoon:

Galatians 3:9, Galatians 3:29, Galatians 4:Make it clear that we are offspring of Abraham because of our faith.

David Spoon:

So this applies to you as well as anybody else.

David Spoon:

And God says this, and I love this saying.

David Spoon:

He says, look as far as you can see.

David Spoon:

See in every direction.

David Spoon:

That's how God blesses people.

David Spoon:

Look, I want you to see this as far as your eye can take it in, pal.

David Spoon:

As much as you can see.

David Spoon:

And no matter what direction you go, I'm going to bless you.

David Spoon:

That is who we serve.

David Spoon:

Oh, he's just a mean God.

David Spoon:

Oh, he's a.

David Spoon:

Look at this.

David Spoon:

This is Genesis, first book.

David Spoon:

He's like, look, you can't see all the stuff I'm going to bless you with.

David Spoon:

Which, by the way, I think is true, because I don't think we see all the blessings that God does for us.

David Spoon:

I think we think we do, but I'm pretty sure we don't.

David Spoon:

And then.

David Spoon:

And with that, he's like, it doesn't matter what direction you look in, I'm going to bless you.

David Spoon:

And the reason I want to bless you, Abraham, is because I love you and I love that you believe me, and I love our connection and I love our friendship, and I'm going to take care of you because you and I are connected.

David Spoon:

What a great picture that God has offered to Abraham.

David Spoon:

But wait, I want you to stay with me.

David Spoon:

Listen, don't get bogged down.

David Spoon:

Listen.

David Spoon:

God says, look as far as you can in every direction.

David Spoon:

I'm going to give you all this land to you and your offspring as a permanent possession, and I'm going to give you so many descendants that they're like dust that cannot be counted.

David Spoon:

Then he says this.

David Spoon:

Take a walk in every direction and explore the new possessions I am giving you.

David Spoon:

Sometimes you and I get stuck in what we have and don't have a lot of confidence or faith to walk out a little further and to see a little bit more and to recognize that the Lord will bless us.

David Spoon:

In other words, sometimes change can be uncomfortable, even if it's the Lord blessing us.

David Spoon:

And it's like, wow, maybe that's not the way we should approach it.

David Spoon:

Maybe we should be a little more adventurous.

David Spoon:

Maybe we should be a little more risk taking.

David Spoon:

I don't know, maybe we should be people like in a boat.

David Spoon:

And then Jesus is on the water and we're in the boat and Jesus is out there and Peter's like, oh, if it's really you, let me come out.

David Spoon:

And Jesus goes, come out on the water.

David Spoon:

And by faith, he puts his foot over the side of that boat.

David Spoon:

And I'll tell you one thing, you cannot deny.

David Spoon:

That was a whole new territory that Peter had never seen before as he was walking on the water.

David Spoon:

Sometimes the Lord's like kind of nudging us.

David Spoon:

Go out, explore, check it out.

David Spoon:

I'm giving you many things.

David Spoon:

Open up your eyes, expand your vision.

David Spoon:

See bigger, see deeper, see broader, see further, look in any direction.

David Spoon:

I'm going to help you.

David Spoon:

I'm going to be with you, I'm going to guide you, I'm going to walk you through it.

David Spoon:

That's what the Lord is giving to him, by the way, that's connected to us.

David Spoon:

As I said, we are part of that offspring.

David Spoon:

And it's like, you know, it would be good for the church maybe to expand its vision a little.

David Spoon:

Wait, wait.

David Spoon:

It would be good for the, the individual Christian to look a little longer, a little deeper, a little higher, a little further, in a little few other different directions if they're doing it in partnership with God, to do it, to recognize.

David Spoon:

God will bless us in many, many areas.

David Spoon:

But he is wanting us to look, he is wanting us to believe.

David Spoon:

He is wanting us to use faith.

David Spoon:

What do we say?

David Spoon:

We've said it a thousand times.

David Spoon:

Without faith, it's impossible to please God.

David Spoon:

Which means with faith it is possible to please God.

David Spoon:

Which means if you want to please God, besides all these things, you should do like keep your hair straight and brush your teeth and make sure you don't have weird hair growing in different parts of your body.

David Spoon:

Maybe the thing that really gets God's attention is us going.

David Spoon:

I believe not only can you do anything, but you will.

David Spoon:

Maybe moving from that place to that place.

David Spoon:

That's a good idea.

David Spoon:

Take a walk in every direction and explore the new possessions I am giving you.

David Spoon:

What if God wants to give you new territory this year?

David Spoon:

Some people want to have a ministry that goes in a different direction.

David Spoon:

Some people want to have different things in business.

David Spoon:

Some people want to have expanded relationships, some people want to have expanded families.

David Spoon:

There's all these different things, all these possibilities.

David Spoon:

What's wrong with believing that in partnership with God?

David Spoon:

If the Lord says no, then the answer is no.

David Spoon:

Okay, but remembering Jesus prayer in Gethsemane.

David Spoon:

Remember, you can do all things, Father, let this cup pass from me.

David Spoon:

Nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done.

David Spoon:

It didn't stop Jesus from asking for something because he knew all things were in the power of the Father.

David Spoon:

It didn't stop even though it was surrendered to the will of God.

David Spoon:

It didn't stop him from asking, hey, here's an idea.

David Spoon:

Ask because the scripture says unto him that is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask.

David Spoon:

Or imagine Ephesians 3:20.

David Spoon:

Maybe we should spark up the old imagination to be a little bit bigger, a little bit more broad.

David Spoon:

Maybe we have a bigger confidence that our God is bigger than we're allowing and will do more.

David Spoon:

But Dave, I've been so disappointed.

David Spoon:

So what?

David Spoon:

So is everybody on the planet because of sin?

David Spoon:

Here's an idea.

David Spoon:

Walk it in faith, not by what you see, but by what you believe.

David Spoon:

That's one of the things I want to do.

David Spoon:

And I think that's part of what Rosamund was talking about when she called in the beginning.

David Spoon:

Like, we want to do this in faith.

David Spoon:

We walk by faith and not by sight.

David Spoon:

Too many of us walk by sight and not by faith.

David Spoon:

Now I want you to see what Abraham did.

David Spoon:

Don't worry, I didn't forget the trivia question.

David Spoon:

But just look what he does.

David Spoon:

God says, take a walk in every direction.

David Spoon:

Explore the new possessions.

David Spoon:

I'm giving you verse 18.

David Spoon:

Then Abraham moved his camp to the oak grove owned by Mamre, which is Hebron.

David Spoon:

There he built an altar to the Lord.

David Spoon:

You know what he did?

David Spoon:

He said, here's another spot where I'm going to draw closer to you.

David Spoon:

Here's another place that I'm kind of cultivating where I can spend more time with you.

David Spoon:

Here's yet another place for you and I to connect.

David Spoon:

Isn't that beautiful how Abraham responded to God's challenge.

David Spoon:

I'm going to build another place where I can draw upon your name so I can be just that much closer.

David Spoon:

I'm going to spend five extra minutes, Lord, in prayer because I really need.

David Spoon:

Because it'll really help me.

David Spoon:

I'm going to spend five extra minutes in your word, Lord, because that will really.

David Spoon:

I'm going to build a new altar.

David Spoon:

In fact, I'm going to do this, Lord.

David Spoon:

I'm going to add prayer.

David Spoon:

Five minutes of prayer in the evening time just to make sure I'm staying in sync with you.

David Spoon:

I'm going to build another altar, Lord.

David Spoon:

I'm going to do it because I want to be close to you.

David Spoon:

I'm going to do it because it will help me connect with you.

David Spoon:

I'm going to do it because not only are you offering me one blessing after another, but you're allowing me to draw close.

David Spoon:

If you think about how powerful this is, God gives him these promises.

David Spoon:

He's literally forfeiting land to Lot.

David Spoon:

Lot's making dumb decisions.

David Spoon:

God comes there and says, listen, it doesn't matter, dude, I'm with you.

David Spoon:

Doesn't matter whether you go left, north, south, east or west, I'm with you.

David Spoon:

He goes, look, explore it.

David Spoon:

Check it out.

David Spoon:

Lift up your eyes.

David Spoon:

I'm going to do all this marvelous stuff.

David Spoon:

And here's Abraham's response.

David Spoon:

I'm going to build an altar to you to make sure that, you know, I want to different, just even a fresher place just to call upon your name.

David Spoon:

That is somebody who's a friend of God.

David Spoon:

You see that?

David Spoon:

Yikes, right?

David Spoon:

Yikes.

David Spoon:

That's the attitude, right?

David Spoon:

Yes, that is the attitude.

David Spoon:

All right, now listen.

David Spoon:

Did anybody think I forgot the trivia question?

David Spoon:

Because I didn't.

David Spoon:

We asked you quite simply.

David Spoon:

I think we did.

David Spoon:

Quite simply.

David Spoon:

Is first Hezekiah, Old Testament, New Testament, or neither?

David Spoon:

The answer is what?

David Spoon:

Neither.

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Because Hezekiah was a king in Israel, not a book, that's why.

David Spoon:

So the answer was neither.

David Spoon:

Okay, solve that one.

David Spoon:

But go back to this.

David Spoon:

Get out of the boat, lift up your eyes, explore the land, take a look around.

David Spoon:

Think of God in bigger terms.

David Spoon:

Stop keeping him in a box.

David Spoon:

Don't box God in with your theology.

David Spoon:

Don't be like his hometown.

David Spoon:

He couldn't do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

David Spoon:

And he was amazed.

David Spoon:

Don't have that reputation.

David Spoon:

That's a terrible reputation.

David Spoon:

Have the reputation that says, you know what?

David Spoon:

If it's you, I want to come out on the water.

David Spoon:

And then listen.

David Spoon:

Because the next thing you might hear is, come on out, the water's fine.

David Spoon:

Wouldn't that be awesome to see the expansiveness of the kingdom of God as you and God are partnering and in response to it all, build another altar that says, unto you and you alone, my God and my king.

David Spoon:

That's what pleases him.

David Spoon:

That's how you become a friend of God.

David Spoon:

Does that make sense?

David Spoon:

Of course it makes sense.

David Spoon:

We gotta do it, though, not talk about it.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, you've been listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on KWAM 770, the truth station here in Texas, 22 and a half hour break.
