David. Psalm 34:4. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 16 of 30 Days of Pushing Back Fear. This ancient Israelite warrior and king did not always feel that God answered his prayers. Just a handful of Psalms earlier, he felt quite different: “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?“ That’s Psalm no 13. I prayed, you heard me—and I prayed, and you weren’t listening. From the same writer. Fact is, in this complex human journey, simple answers are rare. When I can’t see God showing up—it isn’t necessarily a sign of small faith. And when I see Him show up—it isn’t necessarily a sign of great faith. Jesus knew both sides of the experience—a Father who always heard him; and a Father who, it seemed, had forsaken him. Sometimes faith is more about showing up, than having an answer for the moment, or in the moment. And that’s hard.
