Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another episode

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

We're glad that you're with us.

4

:

He was back.

5

:

He tried to keep me away folks.

6

:

I can't share ride to hold me down, buddy.

7

:

I am back from the bed.

8

:

Well, I would do that.

9

:

Yeah.

10

:

He tried to take me out,

but he couldn't do it.

11

:

No, he couldn't do it.

12

:

Man.

13

:

I love black preaching.

14

:

Let me just tell you.

15

:

It could be Charles.

16

:

I know HB Charles gets me going sometimes.

17

:

Yeah.

18

:

Well, You have to put up with me.

19

:

So.

20

:

That's right.

21

:

You're not black.

22

:

Right.

23

:

Never been a curiosity.

24

:

Never been accused of that.

25

:

Wait.

26

:

Um, okay, so we got to talk about

something cause you didn't talk about

27

:

it on the podcast when you were going

solo and I take the blame for that.

28

:

You weren't here.

29

:

Uh, I wasn't here to hold you

accountable to say, Hey, pastor Pete,

30

:

you don't forget to talk about that

major political event that took place.

31

:

And so you completely forgot about it

because you were just all about the Bible.

32

:

Well that, and I recorded all

those episodes before the oh yeah.

33

:

That's that's not important.

34

:

So let's talk about this

massive political event.

35

:

That's going to go down in history.

36

:

I mean, we've only had a few

political assassinations take

37

:

place within our lifetime.

38

:

Certainly.

39

:

I mean, there was two right now.

40

:

Two.

41

:

Uh, anyway, this is a big deal.

42

:

So someone tried to kill

president Trump and.

43

:

Everyone's reeling about this.

44

:

Uh, we don't want to do hot

takes, sometimes hot takes.

45

:

Aren't all that helpful.

46

:

Yeah, especially when you put

stuff in the microwave really hot,

47

:

fast, and then it's just not good.

48

:

Burned yourself.

49

:

Uh, what I'd really like is a cold, take a

thoughtful reflection about how we should

50

:

consider this, what we should do with it.

51

:

Um, what we, as Christians should

think about this whole process,

52

:

what do you got to say about that?

53

:

Yeah.

54

:

I want to borrow from actually

what Steve Lawson preached on.

55

:

Um, he preached at grace community

church where John MacArthur preaches.

56

:

Normally he preached this past weekend

and one of the things that he said.

57

:

That I think is helpful is you

said, listen, the only reason.

58

:

That he was not successful

in this attempt.

59

:

And the other reason that that Trump is

still alive is because it wasn't his day.

60

:

God has our days written in his book.

61

:

Every one of them before we even

one comes to pass someone 39.

62

:

And that day was not the day for Trump.

63

:

There, there will be a

day eventually, right.

64

:

At some point.

65

:

And it just wasn't that day.

66

:

So I think when we see people getting

caught up in, you know, the Providence

67

:

of God and God's sovereignty, and

this means that he's, God's ordained

68

:

one to lead the country next and to

take us into the next four years.

69

:

And he's the one and he's.

70

:

I w we as Christians need to

be careful on that because.

71

:

I can't the only reason why he tilted

his head, the way that he tilted

72

:

his head was that wasn't his day.

73

:

And in that sense was God's sovereign

over that the flight of that bullet.

74

:

Yes.

75

:

A hundred percent.

76

:

But can we conclude that, that thus means.

77

:

That God has spec special things for Trump

to do in office in the next four years.

78

:

If he gets elected.

79

:

Maybe he does, but maybe he doesn't.

80

:

I don't think we can make too

much out of this one event.

81

:

And over sensationalize it.

82

:

I think we can appreciate the

reminder that, Hey God is sovereign.

83

:

Just like when you get in the car, the

reason why you made that left turn safely,

84

:

and nobody ran that red light and T-boned

you is because it wasn't your day to day.

85

:

It may be tomorrow.

86

:

It wasn't today.

87

:

And so I think we need to keep those

things in mind to help us have a

88

:

balanced perspective on things.

89

:

So I saw a post on one of the

social medias of an angel.

90

:

Guarding president, former president

Trump on the platform and the

91

:

angel diverted the bullet or

moved his head at the proper time.

92

:

Something like that is.

93

:

That is kind of the implication.

94

:

God had his angels protecting

president Trump, true or false.

95

:

The Bible does allude to the, the

factor or state the fact that we

96

:

have angels and that's where we get

this concept of guardian angels.

97

:

But.

98

:

You know, I think we, we get into

too sketchy territory when we

99

:

get into the realm of the unseen

and begin to draw conclusions

100

:

about things that we don't know.

101

:

We don't know.

102

:

I mean, Right.

103

:

That's it at the end of the day.

104

:

I mean, when you look at an evil,

desperate who survived an assassination

105

:

attempt, and this is a wicked human

being who does awful things, are we

106

:

going to say the same thing for that guy?

107

:

Um, that, that there was an angel

that turned his head at the last

108

:

minute and or that caused him not to

show up at that event and where he

109

:

would've been blown up and taken out.

110

:

Where are we going to say.

111

:

No.

112

:

This is part of God's sovereign

ordained plan for human history.

113

:

That's working itself out

and it wasn't that guy's day.

114

:

And that that's where I'm more

comfortable falling than I am saying.

115

:

This was an angelic intervention

that prevented him from being

116

:

killed because we don't know, it

could have been, could have been.

117

:

God could have moved his head at the

right time with the angel orange.

118

:

Could you just use Trump's own

will to move his head at the right

119

:

time and have all that take place.

120

:

Ultimately, the end of the day,

we're just gonna say God sovereign

121

:

over bullets and overhead tilts and

over wind and bullet trajectory,

122

:

et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

123

:

There's literally nothing.

124

:

Outside of his sovereign

control and purposes.

125

:

Right.

126

:

Okay.

127

:

So at the end of the day, then.

128

:

Uh, final thoughts about this whole thing.

129

:

I mean, I shared it on Sunday.

130

:

I just, I think.

131

:

Uh, you know, there was that like,

Motivating kind of bravado moment where he

132

:

gets up and he throws his fist in the air.

133

:

Fight right.

134

:

Um, the application.

135

:

Right.

136

:

USA USA.

137

:

The implication and conclusion being okay.

138

:

Hey.

139

:

Republicans go out and

do like let's fight.

140

:

Let's win this thing.

141

:

Let's go do what.

142

:

What our task is at hand.

143

:

And I just found myself thinking, man,

we've got a savior that walked out

144

:

of the grave, never to enter again.

145

:

When he didn't throw his fist in the

air and say fight, but he said, Hey,

146

:

go and make disciples of all nations.

147

:

And that's, that's a better rallying.

148

:

That's a way better rallying cry, and he's

a way better savior to follow than any

149

:

human being running for political office.

150

:

So that's what I was reminded of is

just that, that I got excited about

151

:

that and it was a little convicting.

152

:

I was like, man, I need to be just

as excited about following my savior.

153

:

And doing the work that he's got for us

to do in the meantime, I'm into that.

154

:

Well, I know we also want to hear about

some of your thoughts about JD Vance.

155

:

He was recently announced as president

Trump's VP, and of course, that has

156

:

implications for what kind of policy

we can expect to see down the line.

157

:

If in fact Trump does take office,

but let's put a pause on that.

158

:

Put a pin in that until

tomorrow's recording.

159

:

Cause we have a lot of ground to cover

in today's reading and today's expose.

160

:

Positing some today summarizing.

161

:

If Isaiah chapters 18 through what?

162

:

112 or 18 through 22.

163

:

Just shy of a hundred, 1,218 through 22.

164

:

Yeah.

165

:

Um, yeah, so let's jump in.

166

:

We are, uh, jumping back into

this book kind of midstream.

167

:

And so that's something that just

as you're going through this,

168

:

let's see yesterday we were.

169

:

It's still an Isaiah 13 through 17.

170

:

So that's a little bit easier, but some

of these you're going to be jumping

171

:

out of Isaiah and into like coming up.

172

:

We're going to be in second Kings

and second Chronicles, even a

173

:

Psalm 13, then Hosea for two

days and then back in Isaiah.

174

:

So remember, it's, it's helpful to get

a running start sometimes to get back

175

:

into everything going on, but we pick up

here coming off of yesterday's reading.

176

:

We still kind of have.

177

:

Some familiarity.

178

:

And he's turning now

to talk about Kush now.

179

:

Kush represents modern day.

180

:

What we assume to be in

believed to be Ethiopia.

181

:

Um, and, and yet what he's really

talking about here is, is not just

182

:

Ethiopia, but Kush is, is serving as

a Synectics, which is the singular

183

:

serving for representation represent.

184

:

Taishan of the whole.

185

:

And so it's doing that for the entire

world at large kind of all of the nations.

186

:

And so historically, during

this period, the Kush Heights

187

:

were looking to form a larger

multinational kind of conglomeration.

188

:

That was hopeful to

withstand the Assyrians.

189

:

And so instead.

190

:

God wanted them to acknowledge him.

191

:

And eventually they will when

the Lord reigns from Jerusalem.

192

:

So there's this future anticipation of

the redemption of the crusades of this.

193

:

And it's going to be true for Egypt

as well that there's going to be a.

194

:

A millennial kingdom era.

195

:

Uh, return to the Lord or submission

to the Lord at that point.

196

:

But in the short term, like he's been

doing, he's reminding Israel, Hey,

197

:

don't put your trust in all of these

other nations thinking you're going to

198

:

escape what's coming because even the

Kush Heights who are trying to form

199

:

this, this multinational conglomerations

to go to war against the Assyrians,

200

:

it's not going to work for them.

201

:

So one of the cool things about scripture,

I think that we often miss and is

202

:

often reminded us when we read texts.

203

:

Like this is that the Bible

is not American centric.

204

:

It's not Western centric.

205

:

There's peoples that we don't even know.

206

:

This is this the Ethiopians?

207

:

Maybe, maybe not.

208

:

Now I read something about

a Southern Sudan Northern.

209

:

We don't know.

210

:

We just don't know exactly who

this is, but here's what I can see.

211

:

Scripture has a much wider

scope than we typically do.

212

:

And I think this is a really helpful

thing for us to wrap our minds around

213

:

the, the world does not revolve around.

214

:

America.

215

:

The scripture does not

revolve around American.

216

:

This is a really good reminder.

217

:

Keep your self in perspective, even

as we think about president Trump and.

218

:

The political or the

attempted assassination.

219

:

Th this is not what God has in mind.

220

:

This is not the centerpiece of American

history or rather global history.

221

:

God has a much larger plan and purpose.

222

:

And this is just one part of it.

223

:

Yeah, chapter 19, then we get

into the first part of chapter 19.

224

:

There's an internal conflict here

that would plague Egypt and foreigners

225

:

would exercise control over them.

226

:

Uh, Syria in Babylon in particular, there.

227

:

Uh, verses five through 10 Egypt's main

source of life in economy was the Nile

228

:

river in God is going to declare that

it's going to dry up and they're going

229

:

to have nothing to sustain themselves.

230

:

I was reading it.

231

:

A book a while ago on

the history of Egypt.

232

:

And it really does all

revolve around the Nile river.

233

:

So when it's talking about

the now drawing up, it means

234

:

devastation in end for the nation.

235

:

There's no survival for that nation

even today without the Nile river.

236

:

Uh, versus 60 15, then God is

going to confound the wisdom

237

:

of the wisest men in Egypt.

238

:

And so he's going to go after

their intellect as well.

239

:

So he's systematically.

240

:

Uh, dismantling everything

that the Egyptians rely on.

241

:

Interesting.

242

:

Verses 16 through 25.

243

:

Then during the millennial kingdom,

though, there's going to be a national

244

:

repentance in Egypt and the Lord is going

to make himself known to the Egyptians

245

:

and they are going to worship him.

246

:

This is always kind of a cool

section where I'm like, what.

247

:

W w where does this come from?

248

:

Like why all of a sudden got, are

you setting your affections on the

249

:

Egyptians in the millennial kingdom?

250

:

And they're going to.

251

:

They're going to worship you

and there's going to be a peace.

252

:

Eh, piece between the

Egyptians and the Assyrians.

253

:

There's going to be this road

that goes all the way from the, a

254

:

series in the north, all the way

to the Egyptians and the south.

255

:

Kind of again, representing the

whole of, of all of the enemies

256

:

of God are going to be reconciled.

257

:

In large part to him, not perfectly,

there's still going to be sin during the

258

:

millennial kingdom, but at least in, in

large part, there's going to be a, uh, a

259

:

turning towards the Lord from all of these

nations that hate him during that season.

260

:

What a crazy thought to have

that eventually, and this we

261

:

can look backward on this.

262

:

We're looking post cross

post-resurrection, we're looking

263

:

backward into what's happened.

264

:

This would have been

scandalizing to the Israelite.

265

:

What on earth do you mean that the

Assyrians and the Egyptians are

266

:

going to be a third with Israel?

267

:

Of course we know now this is a

reference to Gentile inclusion.

268

:

God's going to include.

269

:

All sorts of people, his enemies.

270

:

His enemies become his friends.

271

:

They become more than that.

272

:

They're his family and

that's you and me folks.

273

:

That's us.

274

:

Yep.

275

:

That's the Germans and the Mexicans.

276

:

And what is, what is Kelly?

277

:

She Scandinavian.

278

:

Scandinavia Irish.

279

:

What's mark.

280

:

Giant.

281

:

Mark's a giant, all different kinds

of people, large and small become

282

:

the family of Christ with Israel.

283

:

What an incredible thought.

284

:

And this is the benefit that we now see in

part, because there's a day coming home.

285

:

Every tribe, tongue, and nation

is going to sing his praises.

286

:

And I trust that we'll be there.

287

:

Yep.

288

:

And that's, that's the thing, right?

289

:

We've read this and you should

want to be there church and.

290

:

Part of the impact on you day-to-day

should be just thinking about living

291

:

a godly life, ready for the return

of Christ, because we don't want

292

:

to shrink and shame it is returned.

293

:

We want to be ready to go

and say, let's do this.

294

:

Let's go ahead.

295

:

Let's let's get this thing going.

296

:

Um, Hastening the day.

297

:

Yeah.

298

:

Yup.

299

:

I'd say 20.

300

:

This is an interesting one, because

this is the first of a couple of times

301

:

where Isaiah does these kind of living.

302

:

Uh, metaphors were, uh, in

this one for three years.

303

:

Are you going to do this?

304

:

Nope.

305

:

Nope not.

306

:

Is there any chance.

307

:

Not a chance.

308

:

Oh, he got told Isaiah

to do at Cannon's closed.

309

:

If he shows up and tells

me to do this, then.

310

:

You need the commitment to an asylum.

311

:

For three years, beginning in

about seven 11 BC, give or take.

312

:

Isaiah is going to go around naked and

barefoot as a depiction of what the

313

:

Lord was about to do to Egypt and Kush.

314

:

Uh, cause remember judgment

is going to proceed.

315

:

The redemption, the redemption is

coming in the millennial kingdom, the

316

:

reconciliation, the repentance is coming

in the millennial kingdom era for now.

317

:

God's going to pour his

judgment out on these nations.

318

:

So Isaiah does this.

319

:

He goes around naked and

barefoot for three years.

320

:

Now.

321

:

There's questions.

322

:

Does that mean for three years?

323

:

365, 24 7.

324

:

He was on call only that, or was

there even periods of that timeframe

325

:

where he was unclothed in barefoot?

326

:

I tend to think, I think there were,

there were periods of time that he went

327

:

about and did this during the course of

three years as a demonstration dude, I

328

:

can't even admit, can you imagine this?

329

:

No.

330

:

God tells you this.

331

:

Are you sure God came here.

332

:

Give me a confirmation.

333

:

Right?

334

:

I don't know.

335

:

Hold on a second.

336

:

Why?

337

:

It's like, hold on.

338

:

I gotta hit the gym for a little bit.

339

:

Seriously, let me get my six pack.

340

:

I got to imagine that for Isaiah,

something like this has got to.

341

:

It's just got to make sure you say.

342

:

Are you really.

343

:

Right.

344

:

Because this is okay.

345

:

We talked about scandalizing Israel

and Judah by saying, look, you're

346

:

going to have your enemies included

in this, and they're going to be

347

:

part of God's favorite people.

348

:

And now God's telling us.

349

:

I'm really going to push the envelope with

these people and have them do this really.

350

:

Uh, inappropriate.

351

:

Uh, Is it difficult to see?

352

:

Okay.

353

:

Explain that this seems to

be super inappropriate and

354

:

yet God has Isaiah do that.

355

:

What's behind that.

356

:

Inappropriate.

357

:

Yes.

358

:

However, I think we also view it

as such even more so in our overly

359

:

sexualized culture that we live in today.

360

:

Um, I think in, in this day

it would have been different.

361

:

It was more about shame and humiliation

than it was anything sexual.

362

:

And so this was meant to represent the

shame and humiliation that was going to

363

:

be poured out on these other nations.

364

:

And God wanted to drive the point home

and make sure that his people understood

365

:

this because the temptation was again,

and they're still going to do it.

366

:

They're still not going to listen to them.

367

:

They're still gonna look at Egypt and say,

Hey, Egypt, we need help against a Syria.

368

:

Yeah.

369

:

And he's trying to get them to

understand, man, you don't want to put

370

:

your trust in these nations because

God is still through the prophet.

371

:

Isaiah, try to get the people in Judah

to repent before judgment counts and.

372

:

As much as yes.

373

:

Judgment is coming in, the

Babylonians are being summoned.

374

:

There's still time.

375

:

And yet the people are still going to.

376

:

Long for these other nations and

deliverance from human beings.

377

:

And so I think this is.

378

:

For them in this moment, this would

have been more about the humiliation

379

:

than it would have been anything

perverted or, or anything that maybe

380

:

our culture today would think of.

381

:

So God's taking extreme measures in

order to do something, to awaken them

382

:

to their need and to, for both the

disaster that awaits them on their

383

:

current course, it seems like right.

384

:

What a kind act of God, difficult

for Isaiah and I thank God

385

:

that he was willing to do that.

386

:

Yeah.

387

:

I don't know many men or women that

would be willing to follow a God, if

388

:

God's telling you to do it, you do it.

389

:

But still he did it.

390

:

And I'm grateful for that because

it was an act of God's mercy

391

:

to say, here's what's coming.

392

:

If you keep on this path.

393

:

Yeah, for sure.

394

:

For sure.

395

:

All right.

396

:

Is he a 21?

397

:

Verses one through 10, you get

the fall of Babylon depicted here.

398

:

Now, this is important for us to realize

because Babylon is going to rise again

399

:

because Babylon is going to be the

instrument of judgment against Jerusalem.

400

:

But before that, Babylon is

going to fall to a Syria.

401

:

Uh, there's going to be this imminent

fall that is being discussed here in

402

:

this first 10 verses of Babylon in 6

89 BC when Sidak rib and his Assyrian

403

:

forces end up destroying the city.

404

:

And so that that's the.

405

:

The first one second later.

406

:

As is, this is talking about, uh, an

imminent fall kind of a mid-range fall and

407

:

then an eventual fallen into the in time.

408

:

So the second fall is going to

come from the Mito Persians.

409

:

And that's going to take

place in 5 30, 9 BC.

410

:

And so when Isaiah 21 2 in this

passage, he references the Medes

411

:

and some say, well, he's just

referencing a random nation.

412

:

I think this is even

alluding to that future fall.

413

:

That's going to take place from

the Mito Persians in 5 30, 9 BC,

414

:

but then it's not just those two

falls that, and by the way, that's

415

:

talked about in Daniel chapter five.

416

:

Look down at verse five in Isaiah 21,

they prepare the table, they spread

417

:

the rugs, they eat and they drink

arisal princess oil, the shield.

418

:

In Daniel chapter five.

419

:

The Babylonians are throwing a

party and they're getting drunk

420

:

when the Medes and the Persians come

and attack them in besieged them.

421

:

So I think you have an allusion to

that even there with, with Isaiah 21

422

:

5, but then finally this call that

we read in verse nine, fallen, fallen

423

:

is Babylon that I think is ultimately

pointing towards the final fall of

424

:

Babylon, which is eschatological Babylon.

425

:

This is during the tribulation period.

426

:

And this is when the Babylon

represents the nations and the,

427

:

the godless world in that will be

overcome ultimately in the future.

428

:

So there's three falls of

Babylon, I think in view here.

429

:

The imminent one from, uh, Syria.

430

:

The intermediate one from the

Medes and the Persians and that the

431

:

ultimate final, which is in the Anton.

432

:

So I could take a guess

as to why you think this.

433

:

And, and we also know that

fallen, fallen is Babylon is

434

:

going to appear in revelation 14.

435

:

And 18.

436

:

But talk to us about something that

often eludes, novice Bible readers,

437

:

your eye, you're identifying a past.

438

:

Multiple past iterations and

then a final future iteration.

439

:

How can you tell, as you read

through Isaiah or any other,

440

:

any of the other prophets.

441

:

When you're looking at a past fulfillment

and only a past fulfillment or a past

442

:

multiple layered past and a future.

443

:

What gives you this sense?

444

:

As you're reading through the

text to say, oh, this is probably

445

:

talking about another time.

446

:

Yeah.

447

:

Have some trusted friends with you,

meaning some good commentaries and

448

:

good study Bible resources with you

that are going to help you with that.

449

:

Now I will say this, um, we've

commended, the ESV study Bible.

450

:

To you multiple times.

451

:

The qualifications it's as.

452

:

It is a good resource.

453

:

It's solid.

454

:

What you need to understand is it's

written from a character perspective.

455

:

I mean a covenant.

456

:

That's what I was trying to say.

457

:

Not.

458

:

Not heritage.

459

:

It's written from a

covenantal perspective.

460

:

So when we talk about the tribulation,

when we talk about the rapture, when we

461

:

talk about the millennial kingdom, The

editors of the ESV study Bible are not

462

:

going to have those things included in

their notes because they take a different

463

:

approach to the N times than we do.

464

:

They take what's called an AMR millennial

approach, which means the millennial

465

:

is metaphorically happening right now.

466

:

The millennial kingdom

is happening right now.

467

:

We're in this metaphorical thousand

year reign where Christ is reigning

468

:

from our hearts here on earth.

469

:

It is how it's described

by, by an amillennialist.

470

:

This is not a heretical view.

471

:

It's a different view and it's

one that is going to impact the

472

:

way that we interpret scripture.

473

:

So if you you've, you've got

your ESV study Bible open.

474

:

You're not going to see the same

type of interpretation in the

475

:

ESV study Bible, as you will.

476

:

For example, in the MacArthur

study, Bible MacArthur being a

477

:

dispensationalist, which is what we are.

478

:

So I would encourage

you to have some good.

479

:

Uh, trusted resources there that the

MacArthur commentary on the whole Bible

480

:

is helpful in going through the prophesy

as is, uh, the Tindale commentary on

481

:

Isaiah, um, will also be a benefit to

you that is written by Alec Uh, who

482

:

himself is also dispensationalist so

having some, some good commentators.

483

:

I'm from the south end.

484

:

That's how I pronounce it.

485

:

Fine.

486

:

M a T Y E R.

487

:

I, I think it was mature, but okay.

488

:

And I say, mom, I say it the way I see it.

489

:

So what I'm saying.

490

:

So the ESB though.

491

:

Uh, to, to its credit.

492

:

Yeah.

493

:

Occasionally, we'll say things

like, oh, if you're a, this or that,

494

:

they may, it may refer to this.

495

:

I recall reading this in Isaiah

about the millennial kingdom.

496

:

So it's not.

497

:

Yeah.

498

:

There are self-aware they're

not teaching it as this.

499

:

As though it's the only option, but just

to be aware, it's still a great resource.

500

:

Just know that they're going to lean a

different direction than what we believe.

501

:

And, and the other thing I would encourage

you to do is read your Bible more, right?

502

:

I mean, the more you do what we're doing

right now, the more you read through the

503

:

Bible every single year, and the more

you spend time in it, you're going to

504

:

see something pop up like the Meads and,

and think to yourself, wait a minute.

505

:

Babylon media, that sounds

familiar because I've read

506

:

Daniel and I know that needs.

507

:

Talking about the seeds and the Persians.

508

:

Yeah.

509

:

And that's going to make,

you're going to begin to start

510

:

to draw some connections to.

511

:

Yeah.

512

:

Do mastery the Bible.

513

:

I mean, I've been reading the, we've been

reading the Bible and I, for years and

514

:

the older I get, the more I realized, oh,

I'm starting to see patterns and language.

515

:

I mean fallen.

516

:

Fallen is Babylon.

517

:

If you didn't need your cross-references

to tell you, oh, this sounds familiar.

518

:

I remember this in the book of revelation,

then you're doing a great job already.

519

:

Yep.

520

:

That's part of the work

here because these guys.

521

:

Uh, especially in John and revelation,

he's citing old Testament left and right.

522

:

And center.

523

:

You just may not be aware of it, right.

524

:

If you're not familiar.

525

:

So reading it is such a great suggestion.

526

:

It's such a simple one and it's not

a shortcut by any stretch, but it's a

527

:

helpful one because it will continue

to fill your mind, saturate your mind

528

:

with scripture and thus help you to

make those connections that are so.

529

:

Evident across the

entirety of the candidate.

530

:

And in a lot of times,

those will be breadcrumbs.

531

:

Like, you'll be like, wait a minute.

532

:

I think I remember that from Daniel and

that will drive you to a commentary,

533

:

which will either confirm or go, oh wait,

no, maybe that connection is not there.

534

:

Yeah.

535

:

Which is helpful.

536

:

Yeah.

537

:

And listen a good podcast by the way.

538

:

Yeah, that's a good,

that's a good thing too.

539

:

Verses 11 through 12, you

get a reference to Duma here.

540

:

Duma is a word that means silence.

541

:

Um, it refers to the one from

CIHR, which would have been

542

:

part of Edam in the Edomites.

543

:

Uh, and so here, you've

got them asking for news.

544

:

Is there any changes?

545

:

Are there any, is, is,

are things getting better?

546

:

And the answer basically is no

things are not getting better.

547

:

And that's the, the idea of, of

the silence in the response there.

548

:

And then you've got an Oracle

regarding Arabia there in verses

549

:

13 through 17 at the Arab.

550

:

At lands and Arab tribes again.

551

:

Uh, are also going to seek to

form an Alliance against this

552

:

year only to find themselves to

feed it, just like all the others.

553

:

And so the message in this section

of Isaiah, as we continue is,

554

:

Hey, put your trust in the Lord.

555

:

Don't turn to these nascent nations.

556

:

Don't turn to others, repent

and come back to the Lord.

557

:

That's what he's wanting.

558

:

And then finally, chapter 22,

our last chapter for today.

559

:

The worst for last.

560

:

Yep.

561

:

This is Jerusalem is fate Jerusalem

in dire straits here, probably at

562

:

this point, the siege from forces.

563

:

Uh, the Assyrians is there laying siege

to the city and primed for return of

564

:

the Lord in repentance, but instead

of sackcloth and groaning, Which has

565

:

worked out, was designed from them.

566

:

The city produced the sounds of

rejoicing and partying as they simply

567

:

resigned themselves to their impending

fate, they kind of say, all right,

568

:

We're going to eat, drink and die

tomorrow because that's, it seems

569

:

like that's, what's going to happen.

570

:

So there they're not doing

what God wants them to do.

571

:

So one of the things that stands

out to me from today's reading is

572

:

that Isaiah has a very interesting

response to Babylon's fall.

573

:

Uh, I take that as a, as an,

as an encouragement on my part.

574

:

Two.

575

:

Not just pray that God judged the Wiccan.

576

:

But to pray in a way that says

I care about their, their fate.

577

:

I care about what happens to

my lost neighbors, to my lost.

578

:

You know, fill in the blank, friends who.

579

:

Don't follow the Lord.

580

:

Uh, I think it's a really instructive

passage for us to see that Isaiah

581

:

is not celebrating their demise,

although I'm sure there was a

582

:

part of him that said, praise God,

that his justice is being enacted.

583

:

But he says in verse four in chapter 21,

my heart staggers horror has appalled me.

584

:

The Twilight I long for has been turned

into a turn for me in a trembling because

585

:

of the impending judgment upon Babylon.

586

:

It ought to be a warning for us.

587

:

If we become too callous to the

plight of our neighbors, our friends.

588

:

Democrats Republicans, whoever it

is that you see in your political

589

:

cross hairs, or even just people

that you would consider your enemies.

590

:

It's good to pray for.

591

:

God's justice.

592

:

But that should not cause us

to feel callous toward them.

593

:

The chapter ends highlighting,

uh, two individuals.

594

:

You've got shoved a I'm sorry.

595

:

I thought you were done.

596

:

Oh, that's all right.

597

:

That's okay.

598

:

That's a good word either way.

599

:

All right, you got shepherd who

represented the general mindset

600

:

of the people resigned to die

and be buried in the choice tube.

601

:

So he's like, Hey, I've got

this tomb cut out for myself.

602

:

I'm ready.

603

:

Diamond to be buried there.

604

:

It's going to be great.

605

:

And he, the messages you're

going to be dishonored.

606

:

And then this other

man who's put in place.

607

:

Elia Kim.

608

:

Uh, who's going to provide at least

a glimpse of hope and security for

609

:

the people serving kind of as the

governor prime minister, but he too

610

:

is eventually going to fall as well.

611

:

So it's, it's, it's not a pretty picture.

612

:

It's a bleak picture

for, for Jerusalem here.

613

:

Is what chapter 2 22 is,

is portraying for us.

614

:

Well, Hey, let's pray.

615

:

And then we'll wrap up this

episode and, uh, move on.

616

:

Got thanks for another.

617

:

The day where we get to discuss your

word and spend time in your word.

618

:

And we're thankful that you do

use your word to help us week or

619

:

year after year to, to learn more

and to make more connections.

620

:

And.

621

:

Uh, we just pray that you'd give us the

ability to do that until the day we die.

622

:

Um, that we continue to, to

learn more and grow more in our

623

:

understanding of the scriptures.

624

:

And as pastor rod was just saying,

we do want to have a heart like

625

:

Isaiah did towards our enemies

towards those that don't know Christ.

626

:

Not of.

627

:

Of gloating or being conceited towards

them, but of genuine concern and

628

:

care and love for them and desire

to see them come to faith in Jesus.

629

:

And so give us a heart towards them.

630

:

Break our hearts.

631

:

Over their plights and over their future

and help us to think of them, not just as.

632

:

The person living across the street, who

I've got a conflict with, but as a soul

633

:

who is destined for any eternity apart

from you, unless they hear the gospel.

634

:

Unless I share the gospel with them.

635

:

And so give us a, an evangelistic

mindset towards those that are around us.

636

:

And so we thank you for this time.

637

:

And pray for a great rest

of our day in Christ's name.

638

:

And then.

639

:

We'll catch you guys tomorrow.

640

:

Keep her in your Bibles and tune

in again for another exciting,

641

:

thrilling, thrilling, amazing episode.

642

:

With the daily Bible pocket by.
