BIGG Voice Guy:
BIGG Success with The Professor and Mary-Lynn.
George:
An experienced sailor and his junior look out over the dark sea in front of them. And Mary-Lynn, when I say dark, I mean dark.
Mary-Lynn:
That sounds really dark.
George:
The senior directs his subordinate's attention to the endless stars that surround them. One of them stands out from all the others. The elder says to the younger, "Find the North Star and your way will be revealed." And so it is with us.
The North Star represents your vision, the life you want to live. It shows you where you want to go and how you are going to get there.
Mary-Lynn:
Welcome to the BIGG Success Show, where we help you create the life you want. Hi, I'm Mary-Lynn.
George:
And I'm George, "The Professor".
Mary-Lynn:
In our last episode, we talked about Step 1 of the Life Map Course: Your Baseline, understanding exactly where you right now.
And today we're moving to Step 2: Your Vision, where we start looking forward, creating a clear picture of the life you want.
George:
Your vision is your North Star. It keeps you heading in the right direction no matter what life throws at you.
Mary-Lynn:
So why does your vision matter so much, Professor?
George:
Well, Mary-Lynn, without a vision, you're like a ship without a rudder. You may move, but you're drifting. A vision gives you purpose and direction. It's the future you're intentionally working toward.
Not just a list of goals, but a bigger picture of the life you want to live.
Mary-Lynn:
When your vision is clear, it's so much easier to make decisions because you can quickly ask yourself, "does this move me closer to my vision or not?" And when you hit obstacles, and you will, your vision will keep you motivated and focused.
George:
And here's something really important to remember - your vision is personal. It's not what your friends think you should want or what looks good on social media.
It's the life that will make YOU feel fulfilled and content.
Mary-Lynn:
So here are 4 strategies to start defining your vision. First, identify your passions and proficiencies.
George:
Passions are the things that energize you. Proficiencies are the things you're naturally good at.
Your vision should blend the two so you're excited about where you're going and you're equipped to get there.
Mary-Lynn:
Second, think BIGG (and that's big with two Gs)
George:
That's right.
Mary-Lynn:
But keep it authentic.
George:
A powerful vision should stretch you without feeling completely unattainable. Ask yourself: if I could design my ideal life, what would it look like in five years? How about 10 years? What does your day look like?
Who are you spending your time with? What are you working on? These are the things to ponder.
Mary-Lynn:
Ooh, things to ponder, Professor.
George:
I wonder what I would ponder.
Mary-Lynn:
The third way to start defining your vision is to write it down and to get detailed.
George:
Imagine you're living your vision today. Describe your surroundings, the people you're interacting with, the work you do, even how you feel when you wake up in the morning.
Putting it into words makes it more real and keeps it top of mind.
Mary-Lynn:
And finally, fourth, give yourself permission to adjust.
George:
Yeah. Your vision can evolve as your life changes. The important thing is that it always reflects what matters most to you right now.
Mary-Lynn:
Now, the danger of skipping this step is that without a vision, you might work hard toward goals that don't actually make you happy. Who wants to do that? You risk climbing the ladder of success only to find that it's leaning against the wrong wall.
George:
And there's nothing that creates more despair than working so hard towards something and then realizing that it's not fully filling you.
Mary-Lynn:
Yeah, the empty feeling of success...What? That's not what we work hard for!
George:
That's right. But we've seen people achieve amazing things only to feel empty because those achievements weren't aligned with their true vision.
This step prevents that. It keeps you moving toward a future that's meaningful to you. Take some time this week to dream BIGG, and that's big with two Gs.
Write down your vision in detail and keep it where you can see it. Remember, this is your North Star. It's what you're working toward every day.
Mary-Lynn:
And because this is such an important step, we've created a free one sheet you can download.
