Last time we talked about how different synthetic filaments provide different levels of firmness in a paint brush. Well, how do you know which is right for your project? I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

Figuring out which level of firmness is right for your project isn't complicated. It pretty much depends on what you're doing and what level of finish you're using. If you're working with a shinier finish or your brushing out a smoother surface like doors or trim, a softer brush will help minimize visible brush strokes, giving you a cleaner look.

On the flip side, if you’re cutting in around windows, doors, or trim, a stiffer brush gives you more control for crisp, clean lines. For the most part, stiffer brush is also better for working outdoors and on rougher surfaces like concrete or brick, for example.

Many brushes on the market offer a medium stiffness, and this usuallyl strikes a good balance for most projects. That's it in a nutshell. We'll keep going next time. I'm Dan Hansen and that's a Minute at RepcoLite.
