Shownotes

This episode deals with the expressions found in Romans 4 that describe Abraham's faith in God. Faith in God exists as God speaks. It is built on the evidence of God fulfilling His word. Faith is not a "blind faith" that merely professes to believe God because we desire it and want it to be true. Faith is taking God at His word (trusting Him). It is the assurance that God will keep His promises. But, it is grounded upon evidences of past and present experiences that God exists and that He will reward those who diligently seek him (Heb. 11:1-6).

Consequently, when faith is tested, God's word may not be reasonable or logical to us. The "obedience of faith" is not seen by human beings merely doing what they choose to do because it fits their views and satisfies their longings. Instead, it is seen whenever God asks us to do something that contradicts human intellect and logic.

Furthermore, faith in God does not describe human beings doing whatever they want to do, professing it to be done in His name and claiming that if they have enough faith in God, He will grant it. We hear people every day claiming that God will do for them what He has never promised them. If God doesn't speak concerning a thing, you must not believe that He will grant whatever your heart desires. This is an example of human beings doing what they want and attributing it to God's hand because we claim to believe Him. He may grant it, if it is according to His will but He certainly will not grant it if it contradicts what He has already revealed in His word. Abraham illustrates this principle of faith - faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom. 10:17).
