Speaker:

Hey, happy Saturday.

2

:

It's a, it's a great

day to be in God's word.

3

:

Welcome back to another edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

4

:

And because I didn't say it yesterday

and because we weren't thinking about

5

:

it, but I'm just gonna say it because

I want to be happy anniversary.

6

:

My love.

7

:

16 awesome years.

8

:

I'm not even here today.

9

:

You're not I'm with her and we're

doing something fun this morning.

10

:

Good.

11

:

I'm glad because you you've begun your

payback of me for going on vacation.

12

:

That's right.

13

:

Because now I'm today

in the office by myself.

14

:

So your next three episodes are just me.

15

:

That's right, because I'm here.

16

:

Because pastor rod is with his

wife and they're having a good

17

:

in well-deserved time away.

18

:

Take your wife to

celebrate the anniversary.

19

:

I'm not, I'm not bitter.

20

:

I'm just saying I offered to record

additional episodes with you.

21

:

You did not.

22

:

You said, I don't know what I'm doing.

23

:

I was going to let you figure that out.

24

:

Is that exactly the.

25

:

Verbatim.

26

:

I don't think that's what I said.

27

:

I think I said, look, do you want to

spend more time recording together?

28

:

Cause I didn't, I wasn't

even thinking about it.

29

:

And I was thinking about

planning the thing.

30

:

The things.

31

:

Yeah.

32

:

So.

33

:

Um, you know, we're

still, today is for us.

34

:

It's still Thursday.

35

:

I can record a few more.

36

:

No, no, no, no.

37

:

Cause you said it was

like, ah, I mean, if you.

38

:

To record more.

39

:

I guess I can cram it into my schedule.

40

:

I'm already doing so much.

41

:

I mean, that's not cancer.

42

:

Right.

43

:

I could do it.

44

:

Network.

45

:

It always happy to jump in.

46

:

You know, we cause we do this

because we love you guys.

47

:

And this isn't, this is a service,

a pastor's job is to serve.

48

:

It's a labor of love.

49

:

So we did this because we love you guys.

50

:

No, it sounds like we love hanging

out together and we do, we do, but

51

:

it's not in this particular medium.

52

:

Right.

53

:

We could hang out otherwise we could.

54

:

Yeah.

55

:

Yeah.

56

:

Uh, speaking of, of hanging out there,

there's been some new creatures,

57

:

new animals hanging out in the

waterways here in north Texas.

58

:

What kind of animals are natural

to this part of the country?

59

:

Well, They're not natural

to this part of the country.

60

:

And, uh, they're the type of

animals that you see later.

61

:

There there's some Gators.

62

:

Uh, that have been hanging out Gators.

63

:

Of Capell, which is okay.

64

:

So think DFW airport.

65

:

All right.

66

:

Okay.

67

:

Thinking about it, just come

this way just a little bit.

68

:

This airport, you know,

this is an audio media com.

69

:

Remind me.

70

:

Just a little bit from the airport.

71

:

Okay.

72

:

Five minutes, maybe.

73

:

Not even that perhaps,

and you're in Capelle.

74

:

So, yeah.

75

:

In Capell.

76

:

I mean, not right now, there have

been alligators spotted in the

77

:

ponds surrounding dent and Creek.

78

:

What, so how does that happen?

79

:

I, you know, they pond, I blame Houston.

80

:

How does okay.

81

:

It was Houston mailing us.

82

:

I wouldn't put it past them.

83

:

I think, yeah, I know Houston.

84

:

Right.

85

:

So you might think,

man, what in the world?

86

:

We're not in Louisiana.

87

:

We're not in Florida where

these Gators coming from.

88

:

Yeah, where are they coming from?

89

:

I think the hurricanes bring them to us.

90

:

So they're, so they're moving up

north to avoid the hurricanes.

91

:

Is that what you're saying?

92

:

That's what I'm thinking.

93

:

I mean, everybody's kind of moving

to this area and the Gators.

94

:

You know, there's some cheap real estate.

95

:

Okay.

96

:

Okay.

97

:

I see.

98

:

Interesting.

99

:

And there's no predators

for them around here.

100

:

What's what's a predator to a Gator,

like the great white shark, I think.

101

:

And we don't have it.

102

:

No, maybe not.

103

:

I don't even know.

104

:

This is a serious question.

105

:

I don't know what.

106

:

Besides people.

107

:

I mean, it kind of goes

both ways about it.

108

:

They'll come in.

109

:

We might get a new pair of boots

out of them, something more.

110

:

So you're saying we should call Jeff.

111

:

I mean, I don't think he'd be opposed.

112

:

Yeah.

113

:

He's got that by you upbringing.

114

:

He could come and could

talk it out of the water.

115

:

Yeah.

116

:

Say your best impression of Jeff?

117

:

Okay.

118

:

No, not a Jeff.

119

:

There was this show.

120

:

Uh, called swamp people.

121

:

My wife and I used to watch.

122

:

In our earlier days and they would

go out on the buyer and they would

123

:

shoot Gators and there was the one

character it'd be like two of them, two.

124

:

Um, never solid show anyway.

125

:

What's the difference between a Gator.

126

:

And a crocodile.

127

:

I don't know.

128

:

I think their snow is different.

129

:

Like the crocodile, I think,

has a narrower snout in the

130

:

Gator has a broader snout.

131

:

All right.

132

:

Well, I don't want to get them confused.

133

:

I know people get offended

pretty easily around here.

134

:

Well, and I think if you're in the

water and you see either one, you

135

:

probably want to get out of that water.

136

:

Reptilian animal coming our way.

137

:

Right.

138

:

Does that work?

139

:

Uh, sure.

140

:

Yeah.

141

:

Yeah.

142

:

But I, I just, I can't get out.

143

:

Okay.

144

:

The water.

145

:

Yeah.

146

:

So, uh, there you go often,

do they attack people?

147

:

Let's just, what are the,

what are the numbers?

148

:

I don't know.

149

:

I'm sure the Googles could tell us how.

150

:

Because I'm thinking,

you know, We're Texans.

151

:

Right?

152

:

You.

153

:

You don't, you don't you care, but you're

just going to get in the water anyway.

154

:

And if that thing wants

to step up with you.

155

:

Well, this is an open carry state.

156

:

So Hey, if you wants to start, start

something, we're going to finish it.

157

:

That's true.

158

:

So here we go on the fly.

159

:

How many people die from

alligators each year, each year?

160

:

Ah, here we go.

161

:

Okay.

162

:

According to the Florida fish and

wildlife conservation commission.

163

:

Reliable.

164

:

I'd like to Santas 26.

165

:

People died from alligator

attacks between:

166

:

I see, there you go.

167

:

Basically, non-existent out of 442.

168

:

by incidents.

169

:

Okay.

170

:

So, yeah, that's still averages out

to basically nothing per year, right?

171

:

The average number of alligator attacks

in the United States attacks, not

172

:

deaths attacks in the United States.

173

:

It's about one per year C while

venomous injuries are responsible

174

:

for more than 56 fatalities per year.

175

:

So like venomous snakes.

176

:

It was a venomous alligator.

177

:

That would be the that's it.

178

:

And hopefully they never get together.

179

:

Yeah, I know stuff, weird stuff

has happened, but that's one

180

:

that we don't want to pray for.

181

:

Yeah.

182

:

That's so again, my point is.

183

:

I don't like it.

184

:

I don't, I don't want them traveling

to our part of the country.

185

:

Right.

186

:

If they're going to, we're

probably going to be okay.

187

:

Yeah, I think we're going to be okay.

188

:

I just, you know, if you've got a dog

and you take him to the dog park and

189

:

you throw the thing out into the water

for the dog and Fido doesn't come back.

190

:

I mean, Hey.

191

:

According to pastor rod, you'll

see Fido again in heaven.

192

:

I did not.

193

:

Well.

194

:

I didn't say exactly that,

but maybe yes, but maybe.

195

:

I wouldn't put it pass a

good gun to generously.

196

:

Give his kids good gifts.

197

:

Yeah.

198

:

And one of those gifts could be some kind

of reanimation of your old puppy, perhaps.

199

:

Your cat for sure.

200

:

No.

201

:

Nope.

202

:

Gone.

203

:

Cat has gone gone.

204

:

In fact, maybe we should

feed the cast to the Gators.

205

:

You know, if they were well fed with

cats that would solve two problems,

206

:

it would avoid human attacks and it

would, you know, tamper down or cat

207

:

problem here in the, in the north Texas.

208

:

We have we have single-handedly we're

going to get an angry email about that.

209

:

That would be like, that's not funny.

210

:

God's creation.

211

:

You shouldn't joke about the deaths

of God's creation with alligators.

212

:

Wow.

213

:

But so far it's okay.

214

:

It's okay.

215

:

Director, mark Cogan.

216

:

Yeah.

217

:

We love your cat.

218

:

No, we don't, but we love you.

219

:

We love you.

220

:

And by extension, we will love your cast.

221

:

No.

222

:

If Marquez, yes, cats now.

223

:

Well, what happens if mark

dies and he buckwheat's to you?

224

:

His cats, alligator food.

225

:

Oh, Or.

226

:

Can I keep giving to somebody else?

227

:

Who wants cat?

228

:

Well, if it's in his will though,

and he says, I specifically want

229

:

all of my cats to go to pastor PJ,

what are you going to do with that?

230

:

I'm going to trust that the spirit

of that will would say, I want

231

:

my cats to be well cared for.

232

:

And I know that I wouldn't

care well for those cats.

233

:

So I would be quit them to somebody

else who would care well for them.

234

:

No, but.

235

:

I would carry forth his desires.

236

:

Mark what specifically say.

237

:

Something along the lines of, I

demand pastor PJ to care for my cats

238

:

and only him until the day he dies.

239

:

Did they die of a natural cause

then he wants them dead because

240

:

he knows that would be the result.

241

:

I'll see.

242

:

Yeah.

243

:

Well, Hey, let's jump into

our Bible reading for the day.

244

:

This is ridiculous.

245

:

Second Chronicles, chapter 27.

246

:

You know what yesterday was a little

bit more heavy, a little more.

247

:

Sirius today's a little

bit more, a little.

248

:

Yeah.

249

:

That's a good point.

250

:

That's why people listen to us.

251

:

That's the only reason.

252

:

That's the only reason.

253

:

Second Chronicles 27.

254

:

We're just here for just a minute.

255

:

We're going to skip off

the surface of this.

256

:

And then we're going to jump

into Isaiah nine through 12.

257

:

Second Chronicles chapter 27, we have

Jotham king Jotham ticks thrown in Judah.

258

:

And he, it says does what is

right in the eyes of the Lord.

259

:

He was courageous with his father

use Ayah until you use I's death.

260

:

So there's some overlap

in their accomplishments.

261

:

Remember you use, I had leprosy and

couldn't continue on the throne.

262

:

So Jonathan was raining

around the same time though.

263

:

He had others, the main military

accomplishment noted here, at least.

264

:

Was Judas continued subjugation of

the Ammonites while Jonathan was king.

265

:

So we get this interesting

little note here.

266

:

On the relationship there with, with

AMA, but that's, what's going on in

267

:

second Chronicles, chapter 27, Jonathan

reins in Judah, you probably have

268

:

an underlined, but notice in verse

six, Jonathan became mighty because

269

:

scripture gave a reason why he ordered

his ways before the Lord has got.

270

:

So whenever you see a good king, this is

always going to be the common denominator.

271

:

He loves the Lord.

272

:

He trusted Lord.

273

:

He follows the Lord.

274

:

And what do you know?

275

:

That's pretty consistent with what it

means to be a good Christian as well.

276

:

Yup.

277

:

Well, let's turn over to Isaiah.

278

:

We're going to spend the majority of our

time and Isaiah Isaiah 9, 10, 11, and 12.

279

:

Is it nine is going to

sound familiar to you.

280

:

Uh, it's got a lot of verses in here

that you're gonna say, wait a minute.

281

:

I remember that.

282

:

In fact, you may even start singing

along with Handel's Messiah.

283

:

Uh, to a portion of this passage.

284

:

Uh, but in Isaiah nine one through

seven, here, we get this promise from

285

:

Yahweh that he's not going to leave

his people in the spiritual darkness

286

:

that they find themselves in presently.

287

:

Eventually he's going

to send his great light.

288

:

We've been talking a lot about light.

289

:

Uh, we've talked about

it in John's gospel.

290

:

I appreciate about it not long ago

from Matthew chapter five and the fact

291

:

that we are the light of the world.

292

:

In a lot of those concepts

they're in, in the gospels.

293

:

Come back to this, this prophetic passage

about in verse two, the people who walked

294

:

in darkness have seen a great light.

295

:

Those who dwell in the land

of deep darkness on them.

296

:

A light has shown that that

Jesus is the fulfillment of that.

297

:

So this is anticipating

the coming of the Messiah.

298

:

Uh, verse three, there's no longer

just a remnant for the Lord.

299

:

He's going to have multiplied the people.

300

:

So this is looking forward to

the millennial kingdom here.

301

:

Uh, and there's, there's some overlap,

so there's going to be some, both,

302

:

and there's going to be some near.

303

:

And kind of medium and also for future

fulfillment here, as we get into this,

304

:

some of this is going to be dealing

with the first advent of Christ.

305

:

Some of it's dealing with both of them,

uh, but here the millennial kingdom is in

306

:

view in verse three, verse four, God is

going to deliver his people from slavery.

307

:

Th that's the yolk image.

308

:

Then he's also going to deliver them from

enduring suffering, which is the staff.

309

:

And from the affliction of

suffering, which is, uh, the rod.

310

:

Verses six through seven, this deliverance

is going to come, how it's going to

311

:

come through the birth of a king.

312

:

And here's the passage that we talk about

and, and read about each Christmas time.

313

:

And this is the one a child is born.

314

:

A son is given the government's

going to be on a shoulder.

315

:

And then it goes through

his different names.

316

:

Uh, these names that this child is

going to have wonderful counselor

317

:

appeals to his supernatural

wisdom that he's going to possess.

318

:

He's going to be the mighty God.

319

:

He's going to be divine

in nature in Isaiah 10 21.

320

:

God is referred to there as the mighty

God everlasting, his rule is going to.

321

:

Go forever.

322

:

Without end.

323

:

He's going to be the fulfillment

of second Samuel chapter seven.

324

:

Davidic king whose kingdom

will never come to an end.

325

:

He's going to be the father and

this gets a little confusing,

326

:

cause we are talking about Jesus.

327

:

But this is father in the sense of

the way that he relates to his people,

328

:

the care for the discipline, the

concern for the love for his people.

329

:

He's going to be the prince of peace,

peace, the Shalom, which is not just

330

:

a piece from conflict, but just an

overall wellbeing, a holistic wellbeing.

331

:

And that piece is going to be

both with God and with men.

332

:

And he is going to be the prince in

the sense that he's going to be the.

333

:

Administrator of this piece.

334

:

And so this is the one that is

going to bring the deliverance.

335

:

That Isaiah nine is talking about here

and his kingdom is going to expand

336

:

without opposition or end, and the

government would justice in righteousness.

337

:

Is going to be his forevermore.

338

:

So how would a.

339

:

A Jewish person, an Israelite would

have, how would they have read this?

340

:

What were they expecting?

341

:

An actual king to fulfill this?

342

:

That was somewhere down the line of the

Davidic the Davidic line or was there.

343

:

Was it.

344

:

I mean two of the best

of our knowledge and.

345

:

Uh, grant, we don't really have a

whole lot of information on this

346

:

because we don't know what they

were thinking, but we can speculate.

347

:

Now speculate for us, help us

think where they saying, oh,

348

:

this must be someone future.

349

:

Maybe this isn't even a human

because they're called mighty God.

350

:

What do you think they do with this?

351

:

Yeah, I, again, I think this is this fed

into some of the messianic expectations.

352

:

I think this is why you have passages

like Luke 24, which he uses on the

353

:

road to amaze with the two disciples.

354

:

I think this is why the Pharisees and

the Sadducees rejected Christ outright

355

:

from the very beginning, because they

were looking for a Messiah like this.

356

:

They were looking for one who's.

357

:

I was going to bear the

government on his shoulders.

358

:

He was going to be the mighty God.

359

:

So I think they were

looking for this king.

360

:

I think they did understand

this to be messianic.

361

:

I think they even understood

this to be the messianic.

362

:

Expectation having the idea that he

was going to be divine, even because

363

:

of the language that's contained here,

but they weren't expecting, expecting

364

:

the suffering servant to proceed this

one, because this one is ultimately

365

:

the millennial kingdom Messiah.

366

:

This is not the first advent Messiah.

367

:

God, it just kind of goes back

to something we talked about

368

:

before the idea of a prophecy

functioning, like not Rangers.

369

:

Now here, it's all compressed into

one picture where you see Jesus, the

370

:

Messiah, the conqueror, the king.

371

:

Yeah, but there's also valleys

between the mountain peaks where you

372

:

see the suffering servant and other,

other elements and other timeframes

373

:

rather taking, taking place here.

374

:

So that's helpful input.

375

:

Yeah.

376

:

Uh, verse eight then.

377

:

Uh, down through chapter 10, verse four.

378

:

Uh, we get into the, the,

the judgment on Israel now.

379

:

It's going to be important

for you to keep in mind here.

380

:

Here we are dealing with the Northern

kingdom, but eventually the prophecies

381

:

are going to stop dealing with the

Northern kingdom, but you're still going

382

:

to be reading about Jacob and Israel.

383

:

And at that point, it's going to go

back to the pre divided kingdom concept

384

:

of Jacob in Israel as holistically

representing the nation as a whole

385

:

and not the divided monarchy.

386

:

Here, we know it's the divided monarchy.

387

:

And the reason we know that is because

verse nine talks about Ethereum, which

388

:

is another name for the Northern kingdom.

389

:

And there are the inhabitants of

Samarria, which is the capital city there.

390

:

So the profit of here turns to

the Northern kingdom, turns to

391

:

Israel and prophesies against their

pride and the refusal to repent.

392

:

He indicts their hardheartedness,

which had led the Lord to abandon

393

:

them and to turn them over to

corrupt elders and false prophets.

394

:

That's verses 13 through 16.

395

:

There.

396

:

Then they were consumed with

their wickedness and their

397

:

simple luster, never satisfied.

398

:

Uh, there, we see that in verses 18

through 21, and there's no justice or care

399

:

for the needy, but instead societaly they

had made them the object of their greed.

400

:

That's chapter 10 verses one through four.

401

:

And so in the section of.

402

:

Repeated refrain that takes place

in verse 12, 17 21 and chapter 10,

403

:

verse four, is this for all this?

404

:

His anger has not turned away.

405

:

His hand is stretched out still.

406

:

So this is Isaiah saying.

407

:

Here's the charges.

408

:

You want to know what your charges are?

409

:

Israel here they are.

410

:

And this is a bad thing, obviously,

but help us to turn this into:

411

:

We read sections like this, and this

is going to a lot of Isaiah's stuff.

412

:

I mean, for the first 39 chapters,

there's a lot of this, even though

413

:

some of it is focused toward his

people, others, it's going to be Moab.

414

:

And he's going to talk about a Syria.

415

:

He's going to.

416

:

He's gonna have his gun pointed

to a lot of different targets.

417

:

When we read stuff like this, and we're

kind of just plowing through our Bible.

418

:

How do we take something like

this and apply it to ourselves?

419

:

Give us a couple of hints

on this are tips and tricks.

420

:

If.

421

:

He will.

422

:

Yeah.

423

:

I think it's important to know that

that sin is a sin is an offense

424

:

against the character of a holy God.

425

:

In the holy God, which we're

referring to, there is immutable.

426

:

In other words, he's unchangeable.

427

:

So as we read about Israel's sins, we need

to understand that if, if we're following

428

:

in the footsteps, not literally because

our sins are going to look different

429

:

today than they did then, but if we have

a har hardheartedness, if we're consumed

430

:

with wickedness and sinful lust, if.

431

:

If we are not caring for people,

like we should be caring for people.

432

:

I mean, that's going to be an

offense against God and we need

433

:

to be mindful of that as well.

434

:

That, that in no way, is God looking at

what our sins are, or even nationally our

435

:

sins as a nation in turning a blind eye to

that and saying, well, it's no big deal.

436

:

It doesn't matter.

437

:

So don't worry about it.

438

:

And so I think that's one reason why.

439

:

Uh, we should.

440

:

Look at this and see how it

can still apply to us today.

441

:

God's immutable the things that he

hated, then he still hates today.

442

:

I really appreciate that because I

think one of the things I see when

443

:

I read a text like this is I think,

okay, feed your fear of the Lord.

444

:

I want to feed my reverence of God

because in the new Testament, While you

445

:

do have judgment and you do have a lot

of that spoken by the lips of Christ.

446

:

You miss some of this stuff, which

is why it's so good that we're

447

:

spending time in our old Testament

because you see the totality of God.

448

:

You'll be, you'll be skewed in your image.

449

:

If you only have a new Testament or only

have an old Testament, but when you put

450

:

them together, You have a much, fully,

more fully orbed view of who God is.

451

:

And I want to feed my reverence

because that's the one thing

452

:

that will tend to stray.

453

:

I'll think of God more casually and more

like a human being, as opposed to this.

454

:

Uh, sovereign divine high and

exalted being who deserves my fear.

455

:

Not, not a survival fear,

but a feel you'll fear.

456

:

Uh, he deserves my attention.

457

:

He deserves my obedience.

458

:

So if at minimum, when you

read a text like this, Let it

459

:

feed your fear of the Lord.

460

:

Yeah.

461

:

And you brought this up, then we lose

sight of this in the new Testament.

462

:

Sometimes you'll hear people read

passages like this or some of the

463

:

other prophets and things, and

think that the new Testament God's

464

:

different from the old Testament.

465

:

God, maybe you've heard that.

466

:

Or maybe you've thought that yourself.

467

:

I think that undersells what

took place at the cross?

468

:

Another verse free to

consider in light of that.

469

:

Romans two five says this because

of your hard and impenitent heart.

470

:

You are storing up wrath for

yourself on the day of wrath.

471

:

When God's righteous

judgment will be revealed.

472

:

And so when we think, well, the God

of the new Testament is merciful and

473

:

gracious and compassionate and kind.

474

:

Okay.

475

:

Paul just said in Romans two, five,

that that same God is storing up wrath

476

:

that he's going to pour out on people

who have a hard and impenitent heart.

477

:

At an unrepentant heart.

478

:

So he is, is just like he

did in the old Testament.

479

:

He is boiling and seething over the sin.

480

:

That is being a mass by the people.

481

:

And here's why I think that statement

under sells the cross because that

482

:

wrath is going to be poured out either

in one of two places that Roth was

483

:

either a poured out on the cross.

484

:

And we have to look at that.

485

:

And, and as much as you might feel.

486

:

Appalled at what?

487

:

Some of the Babylonians date of

the Persians or the, uh, Syrians

488

:

or, or anybody else, the Egyptians

when they conquered nations and

489

:

you go, oh, this was so atrocious.

490

:

And I can't believe God

used people like that.

491

:

If you're more offended at that than you

aren't what took place at the cross, then

492

:

you don't realize what took place at the

cross, the full wrath and indignation of

493

:

God being poured out upon a son is, is

more than anything you read about in the

494

:

old Testament, as far as what took place.

495

:

At God's bequest sovereign

bequest at that point.

496

:

So we can't say the God of the

new Testament is different from

497

:

the God of the old Testament.

498

:

It's that, there's the message

of hope that that wrath that

499

:

you see in the old Testament.

500

:

Man that Jesus has, has stepped forward

and said, I'll take that for you.

501

:

And that's the message is now

available that we go forth with it.

502

:

God is so concerned about in the new

Testament, because he does desire

503

:

that as many people as possible.

504

:

Should come to faith in Christ.

505

:

But those that don't,

his wrath is still there.

506

:

It's just passively being stored up

right now for the day of judgment.

507

:

That's coming in the future.

508

:

Your doctoral thesis

was on this wasn't it?

509

:

It was maybe we could put a

link to it so that people can

510

:

read it if they want to do.

511

:

If you can, if you need some stuff to put

yourself to sleep at night, I can get you.

512

:

I some people want some theological

depth that sounds engaging, intriguing.

513

:

Um, I'm not opposed to it.

514

:

And so, yeah.

515

:

Let's put a link in the show notes.

516

:

We can get it out there.

517

:

How long is it?

518

:

It's how many hours.

519

:

200, some odd pages.

520

:

That's a lot of reading.

521

:

Yeah.

522

:

Is there a cliff notes version?

523

:

No.

524

:

It's not.

525

:

That's the thing nobody has ever has.

526

:

It's not big enough that anybody

would be like, yeah, I'm going

527

:

to give time to summarize that.

528

:

So, put it in chat.

529

:

GPT does have a summary

in the introduction of it.

530

:

You can just read that.

531

:

The abstract or, okay.

532

:

Yeah.

533

:

Well, we'll put the link in the

show notes, then we can do that.

534

:

We can do it for free.

535

:

There you go.

536

:

This time, you can have it.

537

:

Uh, yeah.

538

:

So w where are we?

539

:

Okay.

540

:

Chapter 10 then.

541

:

So that's what we're talking about.

542

:

We're talking about this idea that, that

the judgment is coming and here's all

543

:

the reasons why, and that's chapter nine.

544

:

So chapter 10, then starting

at verse five, this section

545

:

in verses five through 19.

546

:

Uh, depicts the sovereignty

of God over the nations.

547

:

Uh, Syria is his rod and his fury.

548

:

And so you see again, God's sovereignty.

549

:

He's the one that's going to

pick up the rod of a Syria,

550

:

the rod of this godless nation.

551

:

And he's going to use that to

vent his fury against Israel.

552

:

He's going to utilize them

to execute his judgment.

553

:

He's going to judge them

then on the backend for their

554

:

prideful, arrogance themselves.

555

:

And so their belief that their power and

their victories, this is the Assyrians

556

:

he's speaking of come from themselves.

557

:

It's going to be their ultimate undoing.

558

:

God's going to turn the

fury of his wrath on them.

559

:

And that specifically verses

17 through 19, he's going to do

560

:

something similar with Babylon

and that's the book of Habakkuk.

561

:

So much show that we

referenced even earlier.

562

:

Right.

563

:

I just want to offer a quick note here,

highlight or underline in your Bible.

564

:

Verse seven.

565

:

Um, God uses the Assyrians.

566

:

And their intention is not to be

his instrument of judgment, but

567

:

that's exactly how he intends it.

568

:

But in verse seven, he does not.

569

:

So intent notice two intentions,

God's purposes being accomplished,

570

:

sovereignty and responsibility, taking

place in the same, in the same verse.

571

:

And I want you to see that because this

is how God operates in the world today.

572

:

Yeah.

573

:

Just like not long ago when

we saw that in the Sanhedrin.

574

:

When I think it was Kaifas who

stood up and said, Hey, it's better.

575

:

That one man should die.

576

:

Then the whole nation should perish.

577

:

He had one intention.

578

:

God had a different attention.

579

:

Good point.

580

:

Pointing that out again.

581

:

Great.

582

:

Verses 2334, then in chapter 10.

583

:

Though there would be a remnant preserved.

584

:

The judgment must come upon Israel.

585

:

They, they shouldn't fear the

Assyrians for, as we saw the

586

:

Lord's going to judge them as well.

587

:

Uh, but even as they arrogantly March

towards Jerusalem, they're going to be

588

:

stalled and they're gonna be humbled.

589

:

And, and this was recorded

for us in second Kings 19.

590

:

So the Syrians are going to take

out Israel, that's going to happen.

591

:

Then they're going to look at Jerusalem

and Jerusalem is the ultimate prize there.

592

:

Jerusalem is really what they're after and

what they want because that's the city.

593

:

Of the Lord.

594

:

That is Zion.

595

:

That is, that is where Israel's

God is known to have made his name.

596

:

That's where the temple is.

597

:

So Syria is going to come against

them, but God's going to deliver the

598

:

nation from the Assyrians in that.

599

:

And again, that's recorded for

us in second Kings chapter 19.

600

:

Uh, which we will discuss, I

think a little bit later on.

601

:

I don't think we've covered that one yet.

602

:

Um, but we will.

603

:

Yeah.

604

:

Isaiah 11.

605

:

The ultimate deliverance that is

real low longs for and looks for, is

606

:

going to come from the future king.

607

:

And that's the king of Isaiah 9 67.

608

:

That's the one that we talked about a

minute ago, the child of Isaiah seven, 14,

609

:

that we talked about a few days ago and

his reign is described in this chapter.

610

:

This chapter is all about

the millennial kingdom.

611

:

Peace will prevail.

612

:

The exiles will return.

613

:

The kingdoms will be reunited in the Lord

will rule over all people from Jerusalem.

614

:

So if you wonder, what is Isaiah 11 about?

615

:

Isaiah 11 is about the millennial kingdom.

616

:

That's what's going on here.

617

:

Uh, in, uh, in chapter 11.

618

:

Chapter 12.

619

:

Basically boils down to this in that day.

620

:

Uh, Israel is going to party.

621

:

They're going to rejoice.

622

:

Uh, verse two behold, God is my salvation.

623

:

I will trust and I will

not be afraid for the Lord.

624

:

God is my strength and my song.

625

:

He has become my salvation.

626

:

So Israel is going to

be partying on that day.

627

:

Uh, what an awesome time.

628

:

I often find myself reading passages

like this sing Lord, I long for that day.

629

:

I can't wait to be there.

630

:

We're going to be in a different

capacity as the church.

631

:

We're going to be reigning with Christ.

632

:

And the millennial kingdom,

what does that mean?

633

:

I don't know, we'll find

out when we get there.

634

:

But, uh, but we're going to have some

sort of vice Regency with him helping in

635

:

the governance of the lands, the regions,

there's going to be other nations on

636

:

earth during the millennial kingdom.

637

:

And so it's possible that we will have

a role with those other nations as well,

638

:

but that's where the church will be.

639

:

The church will be present, but not

the same way that Israel will be

640

:

in the kingdom as its inhabitants.

641

:

What I find compelling is that

there are some things that are

642

:

so rich, so deep and so profound.

643

:

That language alone.

644

:

Doesn't suffice.

645

:

What has to happen is language

married to melody that there has to

646

:

be some response from the human to

God to say, this is so marvelous.

647

:

So beyond my comprehension that I

have to give you more than words, I'm

648

:

going to give you words and music.

649

:

And I want this to be an offering.

650

:

I mean, this is interesting in

the way that God has designed us.

651

:

God himself sings over us.

652

:

We read that.

653

:

I believe in Zachariah.

654

:

Now, but now we're responding to his work

to saying, we're going to sing to you.

655

:

We're going to sing a bout you.

656

:

And I find that so cool,

because this is part of how we

657

:

weren't run our church service.

658

:

We sing because there are some things,

some truths that are so profound.

659

:

I sang it alone.

660

:

Just doesn't do it.

661

:

Justice.

662

:

We have to give, uh, another

level of our expression of God.

663

:

And this is one of the ways

that we it's appropriate.

664

:

It's wise.

665

:

It's good.

666

:

And so even if you're not a singer,

I know a lot of people would say,

667

:

oh, I can't carry a tune in a bucket.

668

:

It's not my thing.

669

:

I don't, I don't saying I

don't even sing by myself.

670

:

Um, I get that.

671

:

And I might've said that a

long time ago, long time ago,

672

:

but now I realize it's good.

673

:

I should aspire to sing, even if

I'm not a singer, because this is

674

:

how God's people respond to him.

675

:

Which on that note.

676

:

And by the way, the Bible says, make

a joyful noise to the Lord, right?

677

:

So there you go.

678

:

Your excuse if you can't make any much

more than noise, but on that note, y'all

679

:

I often notice as I walk into our church

service on Sunday morning, and I see

680

:

this countdown clock going, and it's like

five minutes till the service starts.

681

:

Um, The church is not

nearly as full as it is.

682

:

About the time that I get up to do

announcements, or even certainly

683

:

by the time I get up to preach.

684

:

Can I just encourage you to try

and make it a point to be in and

685

:

in your seat and ready to go?

686

:

When we start our service

there at nine o'clock.

687

:

Um, I know that that's still early

for some people to get their own

688

:

time in or 10 o'clock rather.

689

:

Uh, and, and I recognize that, but

it would be for this reason that

690

:

the worship, the songs that we

bring before the Lord is part of

691

:

our worship is part of the service.

692

:

It's, it's not.

693

:

And entertainment.

694

:

It's not this thing that we're

like, Hey, if you want to opt

695

:

into this, that'd be great.

696

:

This is something that, that we do

because this is something that's

697

:

good and right for us to do.

698

:

So let me encourage you to be there.

699

:

And to get your coffee.

700

:

We have it out a little bit ahead of

time to, to come in, to take your seats,

701

:

to be ready for worship, to start.

702

:

Our kids made it opens up or earlier so

that you can get your kids checked in.

703

:

I know that that can sometimes be a little

bit of a log jam, but you can do that

704

:

ahead of time and get them checked in.

705

:

Get them dropped off in your classrooms.

706

:

And come on over to join us for

worship because it's, it's so good

707

:

to sing with the people of God.

708

:

And that's such an important

part of our service.

709

:

It's commanded.

710

:

It is God calls us to do it.

711

:

Yep.

712

:

It's not only just an expert.

713

:

I mean, we, we sing, we sing

for people that we love.

714

:

Right.

715

:

We S we sing happy birthday

to people that we love.

716

:

We.

717

:

I mean, I don't know.

:

Did you ever sing to Amanda

when you guys were dating?

719

:

I did see.

720

:

Because you're saying

to people that you love.

721

:

And that's true, even for, especially

for the Lord whom we love most.

722

:

Yep.

723

:

I agree.

724

:

Well, Hey, let me pray for us.

725

:

And then we will wrap up

this, this, uh, episode.

726

:

God, we thank you for again, these

texts that we just read through and

727

:

like pastor rod was pointing out.

728

:

Sometimes it's difficult

for us to understand.

729

:

Okay.

730

:

What do I do with Isaiah chapter nine?

731

:

Uh, in 2024, and yet it is true that

you are a God who is unchanging and

732

:

immutable, and we should have a reference

in a fear before you that keeps us.

733

:

Uh, from drifting off the street

narrow that keeps us from venturing

734

:

after our fleshly, lusts, and

desiring things that you don't love,

735

:

things that you, your soul hates.

736

:

Uh, and so God allow us to be faithful

in that regard and to take those things

737

:

away, even as we are sales, look forward

to what we were talking about towards

738

:

the end here, the millennial kingdom,

that there's a day coming when, when

739

:

there's a lot to take place in between

now and then, but after you call us home,

740

:

it's not going to feel like a long time.

741

:

It's going to be a blink of an eye.

742

:

And all of a sudden we're

going to be back with Christ.

743

:

We're going to be here.

744

:

We're going to be on this earth.

745

:

Earth.

746

:

Uh, it's going to be an amazing time

where we see a restoration of Israel,

747

:

they're going to be celebrating.

748

:

They're going to be joyful and

we're going to get to witness

749

:

all that what a day that will be.

750

:

And so we are in the in-between right

now of our salvation and that time.

751

:

And.

752

:

And we've got work to do here.

753

:

We were mindful of that as well.

754

:

Even as we're getting ready, starting

this weekend to kick off a brand new

755

:

series on how you're building the

church, we want to be mindful of that.

756

:

And we want to be mindful that we have

work to do here, to see other people

757

:

come to faith in Christ as well.

758

:

So help us to be.

759

:

Uh, faithful to live in fear before you,

as we anticipate being in your presence.

760

:

And what an amazing thing that

will be, uh, when that is realized.

761

:

And so we thank you for this.

762

:

Thank you for this word.

763

:

And we pray this in Jesus name.

764

:

Amen.

765

:

Man.

766

:

Hey, keeping your Bibles and tune

in again tomorrow for a DJ PJ

767

:

and the, uh, daily Bible podcast.

768

:

Can't wait.

769

:

I'll catch you guys then.

770

:

Or I will at least pass her out will be.

771

:

Eventually.

772

:

Bye.
