Speaker:

Welcome back to The becoming the big knee podcast. I'm your host

Speaker:

Djemilah Birnie and you are tuning into minute madness, a

Speaker:

little dose of epicness delivered in five minutes or

Speaker:

less.

Speaker:

There you guys Djemilah Birnie here. And today I want to talk

Speaker:

to you about becoming triggered by things or words or opinions

Speaker:

of other people. So

Speaker:

the thing with being triggered when someone says something and

Speaker:

it starts to just boil up inside of you starts to make you feel

Speaker:

upset and makes you want to lash back or, or say something back.

Speaker:

I want you to take a moment and really dive into and think about

Speaker:

why is this triggering me? Why do I feel this way? Because

Speaker:

here's the thing, when people say things that touch us on a

Speaker:

personal level, because we have a fear that what they are saying

Speaker:

might actually be true. That's when we become triggered. That's

Speaker:

when those feelings come up. But if someone says something that

Speaker:

we know absolutely 100% not true about us total BS, that doesn't

Speaker:

trigger us, it doesn't elicit that same emotion. So if someone

Speaker:

were to tell me like, oh, you're stupid, I would be like, No, I'm

Speaker:

not.

Speaker:

Okay, let's move on, you know. But if someone were to tell me,

Speaker:

you're a bad mom, because you work too much. That would have

Speaker:

made me feel an entirely different way. Because that's

Speaker:

something that I already worry about. I mean, consciously, I do

Speaker:

know that I am a good mom. But I obviously I have these moments

Speaker:

where I feel like that where I feel like maybe I'm not, I'm not

Speaker:

doing enough, right. And so if someone were to say that, that's

Speaker:

going to upset me, that's going to trigger me because that's

Speaker:

something that I'm already scared that somebody might be

Speaker:

scared might actually be true. So if the next time that you

Speaker:

feel triggered, while I want you to do is I want you to take a

Speaker:

moment, and I want you to really lean into why why is this

Speaker:

triggering me? Why do I feel this way?

Speaker:

Is this something that is true? Is this something I'm scared

Speaker:

ish? True? How was this inside of me? Why am I feeling this

Speaker:

kind of emotions? Take a moment journal it out and, and really

Speaker:

dig into it? You can I highly suggest journaling just because

Speaker:

it's an easy way to get all of those jumbling thoughts out onto

Speaker:

one paper and you can really lean into that issue.

Speaker:

So let me know what you thought about this video and how it is

Speaker:

helping you are you use your triggers, you can use your

Speaker:

triggers to grow, you can use your triggers for self

Speaker:

discovery. Because when you become triggered, instead of

Speaker:

using that as a trigger to be angry, when you start to feel

Speaker:

that feeling use it as a trigger to dive into it and understand

Speaker:

why why do I feel this way? Alright, let me know your

Speaker:

thoughts on this in the comments below. And I'll talk to you guys

Speaker:

later.
