In our series "The Lies People Tell" we are examining things that often seem true but can be false. Sometimes, in churches and families, the Gospel is watered down, oversimplified, and even gutted to the point we vaccinate people against the truth. Instead, we substitute a checklist to keep them out of Hell and to help them find comfort and do things to keep God off their backs. In so doing, churches make good things like praying to receive Christ, daily prayer and devotion, and even Bible reading lies because they are misrepresented as works that save us or ingratiate us to God.
