Hello there and welcome to Podcasting for Spiritual Women.
Speaker A:I'm your host, Kim Parkinson, and today.
Speaker A:This week's episode started as a conversation about crafting a powerful speaker one sheet, but quickly blossomed into something a little bit deeper.
Speaker A:A conversation, a chat about not just the visibility, but also sustainability and stepping into your next level as a woman entrepreneur.
Speaker A:Mary Ellen Lundy of An Eco Organized Approach is joining me to explore what it really means to share your message, not just as a guest or as a speaker, but as a change maker, using her voice for impact.
Speaker A:We are going to be talking about turning your big ideas into a TV show or a podcast or a YouTube channel and into the next tangible steps.
Speaker A:How to position yourself for meaningful opportunities and clarifying your message and how that works with your one sheet as well as the future goals of yourself and your business so you can get booked and grow your reach.
Speaker A:If you've ever felt called to speak, teach, or just be seen in a bigger way, then I hope this episode really lights that fire under you.
Speaker A:So here we go.
Speaker A:Welcome, everyone.
Speaker A:Is Kim Parkinson here from Podcasting for Spiritual Women, And I have Mary Ellen Lundy here.
Speaker A:She is the founder and organization pro at an eco Organized Approach.
Speaker A:Having held a previous career in special education, Mary Ellen is uniquely equipped to support her clients no matter their mindset or lifestyle.
Speaker A:She is passionate about creating organizational solutions that are sustainable for the long haul, giving back to the local community and reducing the waste that ends up in our landfills.
Speaker A:When she's not organizing, Mary Ellen enjoys spending time with her family right here in Massachusetts, just a couple towns away from me.
Speaker B:Yes, very close.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker A:All right, so the first, I have a bunch of questions, as I mentioned before, I have a bunch of questions and information to pass on to you.
Speaker A:I see you have a notebook.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:Perfect.
Speaker A:Perfect.
Speaker A:Love it.
Speaker A:So, all right, first, we're off here.
Speaker A:I know that you're local, right.
Speaker A:This is how we met.
Speaker A:We met through a polka dots meeting.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And you did an amazing speech.
Speaker A:You are.
Speaker A:You're a speaker as well.
Speaker A:So you do that.
Speaker A:Excellent.
Speaker A:I just want to know what your goal is because you're local and because you help people that are local.
Speaker A:What is your goal for podcasting in a worldwide space?
Speaker B:To take over the world, Kim, is really what I want to do.
Speaker B:I want to do so many things, which is why that one sheet has so much Kim.
Speaker B:But, you know, long term is, you know, I really want a TV show, really all about the business and how when you change your mindset and you think of your stuff again, stuff, whatever that is, whether it's antiques or, you know, towels, whatever is important to you, tea sets, whatever.
Speaker B:Rethinking your stuff and how it can actually be helpful to other people.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:Because when that happens, Kim, so much beauty unfolds.
Speaker B:It's beautiful for an eco organized approach.
Speaker B:It's beautiful for the people receiving and needing the items.
Speaker B:And it's also so beautiful for the giver.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:It makes them feel so good.
Speaker B:And it's a different feeling, Kim.
Speaker B:And there's nothing wrong with doing larger donations to savers, the Salvation army or Vietnam Veterans of America, whatever you do.
Speaker B:That's wonderful.
Speaker B:But this is, this is so different because it is so hyper local.
Speaker B:But I want to spread not only the concept of this business, but really get people to feel it that, you know, organization really is a form of self, self care.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Because it saves us so much time, so much money.
Speaker B:And I think all of us busy moms need more of all of those things.
Speaker B:Things aren't a struggle, Kim, in my house, when we need to find something, unless my husband needs to find it.
Speaker B:But that's a whole different podcast and category, so that doesn't count.
Speaker A:Yep, I hear that one.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:We've been in our house for 17 years.
Speaker B:He knows where the scissors are.
Speaker B:But that's again, different.
Speaker B:But I really want to do so many things.
Speaker B:I want to do a lot of speaking engagements, I want a TV show, I'm writing a book.
Speaker B:You know, I want virtual organizing to take off even more than it already has for the business.
Speaker B:So lots of things, Kim.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A: k and mortar craft store from: Speaker A:During that time, I actually, actually had my own TV show.
Speaker A:It was a local cable access TV show.
Speaker A:Are thrilled to have people come and say to them, can I do a spot on your show or a spot on your.
Speaker A:On your program?
Speaker A:Can I?
Speaker A:I think you could 100% get started with your TV show.
Speaker A:Step in by just reaching out to your local cable access program that they have there.
Speaker B:We do.
Speaker B:And I've been on it.
Speaker B:I've been a guest on multiple locals.
Speaker B:And of course, the first time I was on it, I was offered a job, but it wasn't like, you know, it wasn't the right time for me because I was trying to take off with the business, not other aspects of that.
Speaker B:But I do.
Speaker B:I think that is a good suggestion.
Speaker B:And, like, this is the problem, Kim.
Speaker B:It's like, it's so hard to concentrate on just one thing because I have so many things going on, you know, with speaking engagements and podcasts and actually running the business, and it's just, you know, it's like you're just one person, so it's just so overwhelming.
Speaker A:Oh, definitely.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I. I 100% as a business owner now, and even back then, you know, at that time running a brick and mortar business, I was probably working, like 60, 70 hours a week, you know, ordering and things like that.
Speaker A:And I would.
Speaker A:I would go in on my day off, and we would do like three or four hours of.
Speaker A:Of recording a couple of episodes.
Speaker A:And the beautiful thing is, is I committed to just like, in.
Speaker A:In all, I think there ended up only being 8 to 10 episodes in total over a couple of years.
Speaker A:So it wasn't something that was like, I had to do it every week or every month or anything.
Speaker A:It was kind of like they needed somebody in a time slot.
Speaker A:And I was like, I'm here for that time slot.
Speaker A:Come on in, let's record.
Speaker B:And so were you live, Kim?
Speaker A:I was not live.
Speaker A:Oh, it was recorded.
Speaker A:Yeah, it was recorded.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:And on top of that, one of the things that I mentioned is that I'm an exec.
Speaker A:I was an executive producer of that TV show.
Speaker A:So what a great, like, extra boost for.
Speaker B:Yes, because.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Knowledge is power of knowing how things get done, you know, And I am, you know, I'm not a perfectionist for clients.
Speaker B:I'm more realistic of whatever their life happens to be.
Speaker B:And I'm not perfectionist in my own home because I have two dogs, a mother and three children, and a husband.
Speaker B:But in my life, in my business, you know, it is so important to.
Speaker B:To, you know, show the very best, you know, and it is.
Speaker B:It is a.
Speaker B:It's such a hard balance sometime, you know, which is also why, Kim, I've shown people on social media my own house, my own drawers, my linen closet, because, like, this is real, you know?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:I totally get that.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I'm.
Speaker A:You know, we all want to be organized.
Speaker A:We all want to have that, but there is always going to be that clutter.
Speaker A:I just.
Speaker A:I just got home from a family vacation on Sunday, and, man, outside of this office, the clutter in my house is atrocious because it's a mess.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:All it takes is.
Speaker A:Is, like, four luggage to be unpacked and laundry.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Everything you get it.
Speaker B:I get it.
Speaker B:I get it.
Speaker B:We have been home for, like, I told you, like, three days, and then gone for three or four days somewhere and then come home and, you know, because when someone asks me and my three children to go somewhere, I'm there.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Don't have to ask me twice.
Speaker A:No, absolutely not.
Speaker A:Yeah, exactly this.
Speaker A:Yeah, I hear you.
Speaker A:Okay, so other than the avenue of maybe going into requesting about the TV show, and don't just stick to your local town.
Speaker A:So my TV show was in Whitman, Massachusetts, the home of the chocolate chip cookie, by the way.
Speaker A:And every time they see me at event, because I live only a couple times over from that now, whenever they see me at an event, they're always like, kim, can you please just come back and do an episode?
Speaker A:So they are looking for people, and I'm not even in the crafting space anymore.
Speaker B:I'm.
Speaker A:I'm always like, dude, I'm, like, doing podcasting.
Speaker B:Right, right, Right.
Speaker B:Oh, gosh.
Speaker B:Oh, that's.
Speaker B:That's a one.
Speaker B:No, it is a good suggestion, and it's.
Speaker B:It's definitely something I'm going to think of.
Speaker B:I have a guest spot in a few weeks at my local media station, so I think I will chat them up again about it.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Propose to them that maybe you could do maybe even a short, like, little series.
Speaker A:So one of the things I actually had on here was I wanted to know why you didn't have your own podcast.
Speaker A:But now I'm thinking maybe you could do exactly what I had a thought of for your podcast before that.
Speaker A:So it's one or the other.
Speaker A:You know what I mean?
Speaker A:Like, it's just.
Speaker B:It.
Speaker A:It's just really getting your voice out there and showing your authority.
Speaker B:Exactly.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Because I have both.
Speaker B:And I'm ready.
Speaker A:Excellent.
Speaker A:Excellent.
Speaker A:Okay, so let me go back to my notes here, because I want to know, who are you targeting when you are looking for a podcast to guest on?
Speaker B:Anyone that will have me.
Speaker B:Is that an option?
Speaker A:All right, so here's the thing.
Speaker A:I think you've probably heard this, and maybe you haven't, but maybe if you are talking to everyone, you're talking to no one.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So, you know, I'm gonna.
Speaker A:I'm gonna suggest one that based on an interview that I listened to previous to this, you're speaking to women.
Speaker A:Mothers, probably.
Speaker B:Oh, that's correct.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:So you've already nailed it down to, like, a whole population or you've gotten rid of a whole population.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:I mean, I think, you know, I've been hired by a handful of men, you know, and only a handful of men follow me.
Speaker B:But absolutely.
Speaker B:Women, yes.
Speaker B:It's really about recycling.
Speaker B:It's about organizing.
Speaker B:And really obviously I think organizing is fun.
Speaker B:But more women's topics of like, you know, that organization is self care.
Speaker B:So yes, women.
Speaker B:See, I didn't know the answer to that.
Speaker B:It just came out wrong.
Speaker B:Sorry, Kim.
Speaker A:That's okay.
Speaker A:No, no, no, not at all.
Speaker A:That's fine.
Speaker A:So, okay, so you've got women and I'm assuming right now maybe not, but I'm assuming right now.
Speaker A:Mothers.
Speaker A:Or are you looking for like older women?
Speaker A:Like our, I'm going to say, like ourselves, like myself.
Speaker B:So I really do.
Speaker B:It's really like probably 30 and up.
Speaker B:But you know, we really do do a lot of like 55 plus moves.
Speaker B:So people looking to downsize.
Speaker B:You know, we do estates, we do businesses.
Speaker B:So I do a lot of women's businesses, you know, that sort of thing.
Speaker B:Yeah, women.
Speaker A:So I want you to write those down because you just told me like a couple of different people.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:So you have moms over 30.
Speaker A:Then you have empty nesters, 55 plus.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Or hopefully empty nesters.
Speaker A:My kids still live at home, but.
Speaker A:And then you also have women business owners.
Speaker A:You actually have three different sets there.
Speaker A:So what I'm going to suggest is that you actually have three different one sheets.
Speaker B:I was thinking, and I thought that the whole time I just, you know, like, I love the one sheet.
Speaker B:I think it's really good, but it is super broad as well, you know.
Speaker B:Okay, so you think that needs to get broken down.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:As a matter of fact, you have on your one sheet here that you have sample questions and then you also have suggested topics.
Speaker A:But to me as a podcaster, those are the same things.
Speaker A:I don't really need both of those.
Speaker A:So you have both those sections.
Speaker A:Remove one section completely.
Speaker A:And in that section you can or one either section, condense it to just three to five questions or three to five topics, however it is and specific for the person that you're handing it to.
Speaker A:So you have the three different choices here, right.
Speaker A:You have the 30, 55, and then you have the business owner.
Speaker A:And they could overlap, but don't worry about that.
Speaker B:Got it.
Speaker A:And three to five specific questions for their niche.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:And the other side, I want you to tell them the value you will bring to their audience.
Speaker A:Because let's face it, if you are a podcast guest, unless you're doing a coaching episode like this where I'm kind of like Also maintaining my authority because I'm giving you information.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:If you are a podcast guest and you're talking about your business, you are really.
Speaker A:It's an advertisement for you.
Speaker A:So you need to make sure that the podcast host understands that this is a value to their listeners.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Because otherwise what they say is that podcast guesting is to grow your audience.
Speaker A:But as a podcast host, having a guest on doesn't always grow your audience.
Speaker A:And that's also because people don't advertise it like a guest.
Speaker A:If you.
Speaker A:As a guest.
Speaker A:And I know you've been on a couple, because I've actually already.
Speaker A:I've listened to one, and then I've.
Speaker A:I've, like, kind of done some searching on Apple for you too.
Speaker A:And if you are a guest, my.
Speaker A:My huge ask would always be advertise that you've been on that podcast a lot on your socials, because people are going to look at that and you're going to float to the top because they're going to say, holy moly, she did a lot of advertising on each of these episodes.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:And so that is very valuable to them.
Speaker A:You want to make sure that you're valuable and also add them, tell them what the value is to their audience.
Speaker A:So you want to tell them what unique perspectives that you might have or stories that you might be talking about that would be very specific to their audience, and then any kind of specific insights to their.
Speaker A:So if you're talking to a business owner and maybe they're, you know, women business owner, and it might be something along the lines of how to organize all of your holiday window decorations.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:My gosh.
Speaker A:That was all over the place all the time at my store.
Speaker B:All over the place.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:In a closet.
Speaker A:You know, my sister tried to, like, you know, put a.
Speaker A:Like a little tag on it or something, but then, like, we'd find something and it would just get stuffed into a different box, you know?
Speaker A:You know, but very specific, like holiday decorations organization.
Speaker A:We.
Speaker A:This is what we help with.
Speaker A:Or maybe like, what to do with your inventory.
Speaker A:That is, you know, how can we help you organize that inventory that's out of date or old?
Speaker A:You know, like, what do you do with all those old calendars?
Speaker A:Like, maybe you can help with that something.
Speaker A:Things like that.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:I like that.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then why would their audience find you engaging?
Speaker A:Why would you be helpful to their audience?
Speaker A:So are they listen to their episodes, their podcast, Are they speaking to their customers?
Speaker A:And if that's the case, even though you're helping them with maybe their holiday decorations.
Speaker A:Can you twist that to help with the personal holiday decorations in their house?
Speaker A:Okay, I'm pretty sure you could.
Speaker A:Pretty sure you could.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker B:Because there's no difference, Kim.
Speaker B:There's no difference between organizing a business and organizing a home.
Speaker B:Yeah, really doing.
Speaker B:You're just grouping, like, items.
Speaker B:It doesn't matter if it's promotion, you know, it could be promotional items for their business, it could be samples of granite for their business, or it could be whatever your outdoor seasonal decorations, you know.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Really matter.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And space matters too.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:So it could be small spaces, big spaces.
Speaker A:Like, at my house, I have a whole garage I can stick stuff into.
Speaker B:Right, right.
Speaker A:But in the store, I had a small, very long, but small closet.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:That's it.
Speaker A:You know, so talking about.
Speaker A:About space, you know, and maybe twisting it to be like, yeah, you might have a lot of space in your house, but, you know, here's the space in your business, or vice versa.
Speaker A:You know, some people have space.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:But again, just kind of like giving them the value of one, how you can help them.
Speaker A:But also two, how they.
Speaker A:How you can help their listeners.
Speaker A:That's actually very important.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And I would put those value ideas right on your one sheet.
Speaker A:So you have a section there that is pink with white lettering.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:First I would suggest to just make that black lettering.
Speaker A:It was very hard for me to read.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:So, yeah, and that is the area I would just put, like, whatever your value is, what value you bring to them and to their listeners.
Speaker B:Got it.
Speaker A:And then another suggestion.
Speaker A:You have an amazing media kit on your website.
Speaker A:I loved it.
Speaker A:I absolutely love it.
Speaker B:Thank you.
Speaker A:So usually if I get a one sheet for a client or myself, I will sometimes just scrub the image of you off of your one sheet, but you have that blue light behind you.
Speaker A:And so that would be kind of wonky.
Speaker B:Take it from the one sheet.
Speaker A:Sometimes I take it from the one sheet.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Because I was also, I was going to mention you have that beautiful media kit on your website, but it doesn't say that on your one sheet.
Speaker B:Oh, got it.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:Make it easy for them.
Speaker A:Be like, you know, find the links in my headshots at this, you know, and put the website right there.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:So literally just put.
Speaker B:Find the links.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:And you don't even have to make it very big.
Speaker A:You can even put it at the bottom, like, at the very bottom of the one sheet and just be like, find downloadable JPEGs and more links at this site.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:That's an awesome suggestion.
Speaker A:I loved that idea.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:That's a great suggestion, Kim.
Speaker B:Thank you.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker A:Do you have any questions so far about what we've talked about?
Speaker B:They're sort of things that I think I knew, but having them validated, you know, from an expert, I think is really helpful because this is also new for me.
Speaker B:I just want to make sure that, you know, you had suggested the three.
Speaker B:The three one sheets.
Speaker B:I just want to make sure that I'm not limiting that because I still want to make sure that they go to organizing people as well.
Speaker B:So I guess I'm just curious of how we work in like the kind of self care aspect and the recycling aspect.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So that could be a section.
Speaker A:So I know you have a big section with your bio.
Speaker A:Let's shore that up just a little bit and have it on just one side or one area.
Speaker A:And you could put on the side also talks about.
Speaker A:And then mention sustainability.
Speaker A:Mention your other topics there, like just three to five of them.
Speaker A:Don't go crazy.
Speaker A:And you could write something about.
Speaker A:Find out more on my website.
Speaker A:And then on your website, just list everything.
Speaker B:Got it.
Speaker A:Because the one sheet's supposed to be an easy, quick, like I'm going to find somebody and this is going to be a good fit.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:But if they have more questions, if they're like, I wonder what this is or I really am interested in this, then if you direct them to a one sheet area or your media kit, it could even be the media kit page that you have.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:If you direct them to that.
Speaker A:And it says, I don't just talk about, you know, organization, but I also talk about sustainability and I talk about all of this.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:You could have like, you know, three columns of like just really very succinct keyword topics that you talk about.
Speaker B:Wonderful.
Speaker A:This is going to work for not only being able to help with your one sheet, you can then send people to that page on a consistent basis.
Speaker A:And then you're going to also have that benefit of SEO.
Speaker A:So for sure.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Which all the way around priority for me because I'm still growing, you know, because of course I'm growing the business, but I'm growing the podcast, I'm growing the speaking engagements.
Speaker B:You know, this is when I wish there were, you know, five more of me.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker A:So how are you finding yourself on podcasts now?
Speaker A:How are you getting onto them?
Speaker B:Honestly, people have just reached out to me and asked me to be a guest.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:So I've taken that, you know, and again, they've been Sort of topics around, you know, women and business.
Speaker B:Basically, you know, the ones that I'm working on right now are just highlighting local businesses, basically.
Speaker A:Okay, yeah, yeah, I did see the Ecat podcast and I also see.
Speaker A:I see that you're in Grounded in Maine.
Speaker A:And then Liz on Biz.
Speaker A:I listened to that one.
Speaker A:That was amazing.
Speaker A:You did a great job.
Speaker A:So you have really great personality.
Speaker A:Really great.
Speaker A:You know, you're open, you're got a lot of information that you're handing out.
Speaker A:So how come I can't find them on your website?
Speaker B:That's a very good question.
Speaker B:They recently just came out.
Speaker B:It's on the list to be added.
Speaker B:Also a great suggestion.
Speaker B:And again, I've sort of thought about that, but it does need to be done.
Speaker A:Also can be added to your one sheet, other podcast appearances, and then just list Grounded in main.
Speaker A:Liz on Biz, the Ecat podcast.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And I did find you on something called the Pro Organizer Bootcamp.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:That woman is incredible.
Speaker B:She's literally like a coach for professional organizers.
Speaker B:So I had hired her for a short time and then she asked me to be on the podcast.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A:Love that.
Speaker A:That actually brings up another topic that I wanted to talk to you about.
Speaker A:As far as another opportunity that you could try if you're trying to get onto podcasts, if somebody is a podcaster that you already know and maybe you've worked with them, right?
Speaker A:Maybe.
Speaker A:Maybe it's just a client or whatever, or maybe you've hired them.
Speaker A:If you have a testimonial that you can voice text to them and just mention your business.
Speaker A:A lot of times, if podcasters are interested in.
Speaker A:A lot of podcasters do do this now.
Speaker A:They'll actually like, read out like their.
Speaker A:Their reviews or their testimonials or in this case, it would be your voice.
Speaker A:It would be your voice like saying, hi, this is Mary Ellen Lundy from anneco.
Speaker A:And then just.
Speaker A:And just keep talking.
Speaker A:And I hired so and so or I worked with so and so and so.
Speaker A:It's kind of like not only a testimonial, but a little promo swap for you as well.
Speaker A:So tidbit there.
Speaker A:It would be something that you would give a testimonial on.
Speaker A:So if you wanted to give it.
Speaker A:Podcaster.
Speaker A:Yeah, make it nice and easy for them to.
Speaker A:To share it on their show.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Something like that.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Now the easiest way to get on other people's podcasts is typically you have a podcast and then you invite them onto your show.
Speaker A:You have a little conversation and then you Say, hey, would you like, can I be on your show now?
Speaker A:Type of thing?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Since you don't have one.
Speaker A:I also have some other suggestions for you if you're open to them.
Speaker B:Yes, please.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:So you could do a couple in Instagram Live with them.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:You're interested.
Speaker A:If you're not comfortable with Instagram Live, you get to YouTube live or something like that, you can invite them on and you could just be like, I really love your vibe.
Speaker A:I really love what you're talking about.
Speaker A:And I would.
Speaker A:While I don't have a podcast, I would love to have a conversation with you live about and whatever it is that they're talking about.
Speaker A:And I'm going to, you know, I'm going to put it up in my Facebook group or my Facebook page or Instagram Live, or you or YouTube, wherever you are most comfortable.
Speaker A:Or TikTok, even, wherever you're most comfortable doing any kind of a live event.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And then after that conversation is over, then it could be a natural.
Speaker A:Like, I loved that conversation.
Speaker A:Can we get together again?
Speaker A:You know, is it possible?
Speaker A:Do you have any space open for a guest?
Speaker A:It's just a nice little, like, segue.
Speaker A:Right, right.
Speaker A:But you've done the inviting first.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:And so it's like an easy.
Speaker A:And people love to be invited to things, for sure.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:So if that doesn't work for you or if you're like, you know what?
Speaker A:I don't.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:You know, I mean, like, I get it.
Speaker A:Like, going Instagram Live is.
Speaker A:Is not something I've actually ever done.
Speaker A:I've done Facebook lives a lot.
Speaker A:I have done some YouTube lives.
Speaker A:Some.
Speaker A:Some reason Instagram Live just scares the heck out of me, but I have done the other one, so I don't know what the difference is.
Speaker A:And I've been on tv, so what's the difference?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker B:But it's.
Speaker B:Regardless, in any situation, even as an extrovert, it's hard to put yourself out there.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:Hard to get up in front of, you know, like when we met in front of a group of women who don't know who you are and be like, listen, this is me.
Speaker B:This is the business.
Speaker B:I'm awesome.
Speaker B:This is what we do.
Speaker B:You know, it's.
Speaker B:It's a difficult thing.
Speaker B:And plus, you're navigating all of these, you know, different nuances that I don't know anything about.
Speaker B:You know, I don't know anything about the podcast world.
Speaker B:Well, very little.
Speaker B:Yes, very little.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:But you know, here's, here's a couple of other things.
Speaker A:It's so easy nowadays to find that next step, right?
Speaker A:Like, we've got chat GPT in our pocket, basically, so you can, you can ask, you know, and like, like, for instance, as you were talking, I was also thinking, like, if the guy at the local cable says, no, you could just start your own YouTube TV show.
Speaker A:You know, it's like, okay, fine, if you don't want me, then I'll do it.
Speaker A:Granted, I think it would be amazing.
Speaker A:And I don't think they will turn you down because they're always looking for shows, for sure.
Speaker A:But I think it could be a very easy, easy access for you to be able to just, you know, basically all you need is zoom in this day and age to do any kind of recording.
Speaker B:But it's just about practicing right in front of different audiences and, you know, figuring out how to work the room and how to figure people out and present your information properly.
Speaker B:You know, that it's understandable, engaging.
Speaker B:It's really a lot of steps, but you know, what you're talking about, it just, it just comes out and flows, right?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:It makes it so much easier when you know it and you feel it inside.
Speaker A:And the other suggestion I would do, if you decide to go in that to root and even for the TV show here.
Speaker A:So either way, you know, podcasts, YouTube or TV show, all of those stick to one topic per episode.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:And that makes it so that one, you have multiple episodes that you can plan.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And two, you're really deep diving.
Speaker A:You're not just keeping surface level.
Speaker A:You're going like miles deep on this one topic.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And just making sure that.
Speaker B:Which is so funny because when I was waiting, when I was waiting for you to get on, I was making.
Speaker B:I don't have an email list yet, but it's again, the email campaign.
Speaker B:It's another thing to do, Kim.
Speaker B:But I was just doing, like, topics for each, you know, bimonthly email campaign.
Speaker B:I was just thinking like, oh, I need topics.
Speaker B:That's so funny.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And, you know, I'm going to mention that I struggled with this too.
Speaker A:So this is a.
Speaker A:So as a single solo woman entrepreneur like yourself, I struggled with this for years as far as, like, what to talk about.
Speaker A:Once I wrote down all of the topics that I wanted to talk about on the podcast, then it just naturally flipped over to, this is what I'm going to talk about in my Facebook lives.
Speaker A:This is now what I'm going to put into my Newsletters.
Speaker A:This is now what I'm going to share on Instagram and all of that.
Speaker A:So it.
Speaker A:All of my content now comes from the podcast first.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:I think that's where we get confused.
Speaker A:We have all these ideas.
Speaker A:We're like, oh, my gosh, I have so many ideas.
Speaker A:I want to talk about this, I want to talk about that.
Speaker A:And even yourself, you know, like, you have the different niches that we talked about.
Speaker A:And but here, if you just choose one niche first and you deep dive into that one niche and then you choose the next one and deep dive, these could be like, you could have like three months worth of content for that one.
Speaker A:One sheet.
Speaker B:100%, yes.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And so, and then here's the beautiful thing, right?
Speaker A:Is after you've created a year's worth of content, just rinse and repeat and add just some new stuff and then you don't ever have to, like, do it ever again.
Speaker A:Except maybe you'll add in a.
Speaker A:Something, whatever, whatever new social media is that they do.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Right now, honestly.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And that's so funny because I did that back when I started to teach that I thought, I am going to kill it.
Speaker B:I'm going to work.
Speaker B:You know, I work seven in the morning until seven at night every single day.
Speaker B:And I thought, I'm going to kill it.
Speaker B:And then I'm going to.
Speaker B:It's going to be easy sale in the rest of my career.
Speaker B:And then of course, curriculum changes and everything, and it didn't work out the way I thought when I was young and naive.
Speaker B:But again, it's different here, you know, because even when things change, the base is still the same, that organizing is still fun.
Speaker B:It's still going to save you time and money and all of those things that come along with being organized.
Speaker B:It's less stress in the house.
Speaker B:You're not worrying about those things when you're lying in bed of like, oh, crap, it's going to rain tomorrow.
Speaker B:I gotta get this off the deck.
Speaker B:I gotta do this.
Speaker B:And all of those things.
Speaker A:And you actually have the added benefit if you were to do a newsletter, which I highly recommend because you own the people's email addresses on your newsletter, whereas social media could disappear tomorrow.
Speaker A:You.
Speaker A:Everybody knows this, I think.
Speaker A:And here's the other thing.
Speaker A:You can really start it free.
Speaker A:Like I mentioned earlier, I have a newsletter right now, but I mentioned earlier, I'm also going to look into starting a substack because it's free.
Speaker B:Yep, it's free.
Speaker A:And you could monetize it if you Want and Substack actually does the advertising of your newsletter to other people.
Speaker A:So there's another, there's other opportunities there.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:But it's not going to replace my newsletter.
Speaker A:It's going to be in addition to my newsletter.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And I struggled with the concept of the newsletter and fought back against it for all of these years because it's adding something else to people's lives.
Speaker B:And although I don't do what they call digital decluttering, like I don't, I don't per se do that, but I don't want to add more stress into my clients lives.
Speaker B:So that's why I need to make sure that the content of the email campaign is favorable and you know, goes after the topic that they want as that little reminder of like, yes, Mary Ellen Lundy exists, you know, that sort of thing.
Speaker B:So it's been a hard pill to swallow, but I am ready to move forward with the email campaign and again, just, you know, like a bi monthly thing because I don't want to be stressed out about it.
Speaker B:I don't want them stressed out about it.
Speaker B:And you know what I always tell clients is I don't want people clicking unsubscribe to me, you know, when you're like, oh, it's her again, you know.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:So there is a mentality about the unsubscribes as far as like sometimes it's just not the season that they're in and they'll come back.
Speaker A:And sometimes it's just sometimes people fall off their, you know, they find it too overwhelming.
Speaker A:I totally get that.
Speaker A:But I think you could really unsubstack because not only can you do a newsletter, but you can also do like little, what they call like blog posts or little posts, things like that.
Speaker A:I think you could do like a whole tip style section and that would be very entertaining for people.
Speaker A:Like people would be very interested in that.
Speaker A:If you gave me a one paragraph tip on how to be organized this week or this month or whatever.
Speaker A:Like, you know, maybe you have like a tip for one tip a month.
Speaker A:Even like for the month of September.
Speaker A:Let's clear out your beach stuff or clear out your pool area.
Speaker A:You know, something, I don't know, something, you know, it, it's not my expertise, but definitely I think those tips would be super valuable to people and it would just be one a month.
Speaker B:Very good point.
Speaker B:Yeah, I like that, I like that tip section.
Speaker B:I think that's a good idea.
Speaker B:And again, it's just, it's wild because you just Never know what people like, what nugget people are going to grasp onto.
Speaker B:Thank you.
Speaker B:I wrote that down too.
Speaker A:Yeah, of course.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker A:Did I help you at all with your one sheet?
Speaker A:Is there anything else we can explain, explore before we wrap up today?
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:I feel really good.
Speaker B:I feel like a little motor is running inside of me now, Kim, and I'm.
Speaker B:I'm ready to take on the podcast world.
Speaker B:Yay.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A:I absolutely love that.
Speaker A:So great.
Speaker A:So why don't you.
Speaker A:We'll wrap up, we'll let you tell the folks where they can find you a little bit more about yourself in your own words.
Speaker A:So let me know.
Speaker B:Oh, that would be wonderful.
Speaker B:Thank you.
Speaker B:Mary Ellen Lundy with an eco organized approach, which is officially trademarked now.
Speaker B:Very exciting.
Speaker B:We are an organizing business and recycling business that serves both homes and businesses within 30 minutes of Stoughton, Massachusetts.
Speaker B:So many wonderful businesses and recycling your unwanted items directly back into the community.
Speaker B:So when we clean out your linen closet, those towels and unwanted bed sheets that you no longer want go directly to a local animal shelter and, you know, kitchen cleanouts, we are taking those items and giving them directly to group homes, family shelters, other shelters, and finding super creative uses for silverware, going to people, learning to weld in school, and so many wonderful repurposes.
Speaker B:And it really drives you and gets you so excited.
Speaker B:And there's no longer guilt and shame around how much money you spent on items that were in your home because they're being immediately recycled in your hyper local community, whether the item is brand new or seemingly recyclable for the trash or recycle.
Speaker B:And really, the.
Speaker B:The goal is to just reduce waste in landfills and gift your unwanted items to people in the community.
Speaker B:So it really is a wonderful business all around and it's super exciting to be a part of it.
Speaker A:Yay.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A:I absolutely love that.
Speaker A:And as a mother of a welder, I'm going to ask you more about that off camera.
Speaker A:Thank you so much for being on today and I look forward to talking to you again soon.
Speaker A:Thank you so much for listening to this episode of Podcasting for Spiritual Women.
