Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save.
Chief Priests. Mark 15:31. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 27 of 30 Days in the Gospels. In these mocking words the chief priests unwittingly uttered a profound truth: Jesus could not save both himself AND others. He must choose: would he forgo the agony of embracing our guilt and save himself from this horrific journey into darkness? Or would he abandon himself to its fatal embrace so that others might live. You’re here, listening, so you know what he chose—He saved others, choosing not to save himself. This act of choosing death to give life, was a deliberate act. No one took his life from him, no one kept him here or forced his hand. Through the entire journey he acted in perfect freedom, choosing at every turn to give life and suffer the cost.
