Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another episode

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

We're back and a noisy right now.

4

:

Yeah.

5

:

Because, well, no.

6

:

I was ready to go.

7

:

But you're banging around

all your stuff over there.

8

:

Getting.

9

:

All set.

10

:

Well, you.

11

:

Do you want a brand new

log set up over there?

12

:

You're in the wrong book.

13

:

You're slamming your computer down.

14

:

I just got in the office cause I

showed up from a leader meeting.

15

:

So yeah.

16

:

I know, I get that,

holding that against me.

17

:

A little bit trying to do

the work at the Lord, bro.

18

:

Sorry.

19

:

Are you okay.

20

:

Well, Maybe do it a little bit quieter.

21

:

If you can do the work

of the Lord more quietly.

22

:

I don't know if I can't.

23

:

I.

24

:

I don't know.

25

:

Any promise either apparently.

26

:

Yeah.

27

:

How'd the leader meeting.

28

:

Go.

29

:

It was good.

30

:

Yeah.

31

:

Yeah, it was, uh, it was shorter.

32

:

Yeah, we had an hour and a half, so

it felt like it went by really fast.

33

:

Yeah.

34

:

And I think it did.

35

:

But that's a good thing, rather.

36

:

I'd rather have it feel like that, then

I'd be like, oh man, this is way too long.

37

:

Yeah, so.

38

:

It was good.

39

:

Yeah.

40

:

Hey, it's Sunday morning and,

uh, or Sunday, whatever time of

41

:

day, you're listening to this.

42

:

I know a lot of people

listen to it in the morning.

43

:

So it's Sunday.

44

:

Um, just a reminder.

45

:

Just building off of the last

couple of days and everything

46

:

else has gone on this week.

47

:

And I was just going through partners,

uh, chapter six with somebody and

48

:

that's on finding a good church and.

49

:

Um, And it talks about in that

praying for your pastors and just a,

50

:

another reminder and encouragement

to you to, uh, to be doing that.

51

:

And are you praying for us praying

for, um, your, uh, pastors?

52

:

That that, uh, our, our pastoring,

your local church, whether that's

53

:

pastor, rod, myself, or if you go to

another church, be praying for us.

54

:

We need that.

55

:

In fact, Yeah.

56

:

Still pray for us even

at your own local church.

57

:

Yeah.

58

:

Pray for us.

59

:

Whoever you aren't, you

prefers, um, we'll take it.

60

:

Uh, no.

61

:

Reminded of that just.

62

:

I was listening to a subsection

from an interview done with,

63

:

uh, MacArthur and Piper.

64

:

Uh, not long ago.

65

:

And they asked him MacArthur a

question about, you know, Drawn

66

:

to the end of his, his ministry.

67

:

And MacArthur kind of made some jokes

about getting older and struggling

68

:

to put on socks and stuff like that.

69

:

And then he said, no, he said, you

want to know the thing that I most

70

:

often think about and pray for is that

I will be found faithful in the end.

71

:

He, he said that that's

what I'm concerned about.

72

:

He said, I just pray all the time.

73

:

Let me be faithful.

74

:

And such a good prayer and needed prayer.

75

:

And we need people

praying that for us too.

76

:

And then yeah.

77

:

Anyways.

78

:

Yeah, but I mean, praying for

the faithfulness of pastors is

79

:

going to be an evergreen thing.

80

:

We, we need that more than ever.

81

:

More than ever.

82

:

I would agree, which is

why I'm really excited.

83

:

We're we're doing something

this morning at church.

84

:

Hopefully by the time you listen into

this P P J myself and a few others are

85

:

going to be praying for our service.

86

:

Yep.

87

:

That's a great thing that

is that we're doing that.

88

:

Yep.

89

:

It's one of our distinctives, right?

90

:

We have a general reliance on prayer.

91

:

Nobody.

92

:

Uh, putting that into practice for sure.

93

:

So.

94

:

Yeah, what else is going on?

95

:

What's what's what are

you playing on Monday?

96

:

Tomorrow is your day off, right?

97

:

As pastors, we take Mondays

off, typically, what are

98

:

you going to do tomorrow?

99

:

What's the most exciting thing

that you're going to do tomorrow.

100

:

Um, This is thrilling.

101

:

Uh, yeah.

102

:

You know, where they don't

have any plans for tomorrow.

103

:

That's fair.

104

:

My kids go to school.

105

:

So we're going to have a lot of

times with them, but I, I typically

106

:

do a lot of the same things.

107

:

Wake up at the same time.

108

:

I usually wake up at the same time.

109

:

Go to bed.

110

:

At a time that I like.

111

:

And so I get good sleep for the weekend.

112

:

30 PM.

113

:

You know, CAX.

114

:

6 45 on some really late nights.

115

:

I'm getting crazy, you know?

116

:

It's not that early, but I mean,

I don't make any bones about it.

117

:

I do.

118

:

I like protecting my, my sleep so that I

can be functional, you know, it's funny.

119

:

Okay.

120

:

So here's the thing.

121

:

If you're an athlete.

122

:

Like your thing is physical performance.

123

:

So whatever hinders your physical

performance, you've got to make

124

:

sure to protect that right.

125

:

We're not that obviously, but we

are mental performers in a sort.

126

:

And, you know, we, we need our

minds to work at their best.

127

:

And one of the best ways for me to support

that is to support that and my health and

128

:

the way that I eat, the way that I sleep.

129

:

I mean exercise.

130

:

I mean, all those things function.

131

:

To support my thinking.

132

:

And consequently my

preaching and my studying.

133

:

I mean, everything from my

perspective, rises and falls on that.

134

:

So.

135

:

It's in the best interest of the church

for me to be as healthy as it possibly

136

:

can be without being neurotic about it.

137

:

So that I can be the best pastor I can be.

138

:

That's what I think about it.

139

:

But I'm glad I'm happy for you.

140

:

That's your truth is great on that.

141

:

My truth, your truth.

142

:

What is, okay, what is your truth,

pastor PGL I'll play along with you.

143

:

My truth is Bluebell ice cream

and, uh, you know, I never

144

:

said you couldn't have that.

145

:

The Costco size bag of Reese's

pumpkin, peanut butter.

146

:

Uh, cups that I have in my refrigerator.

147

:

Okay, well, I'm not saying

you can't have those things.

148

:

I'm just saying all things

in moderation, right?

149

:

Yeah.

150

:

All things are lawful.

151

:

Not all things are helpful.

152

:

That's true.

153

:

Oh, man, that should be a topic for

us on one of these podcasts intros.

154

:

I don't know that we've got time for

it right now, but we should talk great.

155

:

No.

156

:

There's gray areas.

157

:

What is a good idea?

158

:

What.

159

:

What do we mean by that?

160

:

What do we do with that

light blue bell ice cream?

161

:

Ah, no, that's not so much great.

162

:

Is.

163

:

That's green light all the way.

164

:

Most of the flavors, not all of them.

165

:

Hey, we're jumping into

Zechariah for today's Bible

166

:

reading in Secora chapter 10.

167

:

Uh, all the way through 14,

we've got five chapters today.

168

:

Uh, so here we go.

169

:

We're we're getting ready in chapter 10.

170

:

Um, verses one through five, this section

is continuing the restorative work.

171

:

That's going to be done by the Messiah.

172

:

And so he's going to punish the

false shepherds who had done so much

173

:

harm to his people and is going to

be with them with the people of God

174

:

as their powerful military ruler.

175

:

Um, so that's the first part there

of chapter 10 verses one through five

176

:

chapter 10 verses six through 12.

177

:

Then God promises to bring all Israel

back to himself as he had scattered them.

178

:

So he would whistle for

them to bring them back.

179

:

Now, all Israel's is unique here

because Paul's going to say in Romans

180

:

that not all Israel's true Israel.

181

:

And so, um, there's a question about

that in, in who is going to be saved.

182

:

And it even seems that not even

all Israel during the tribulation

183

:

period is going to be delivered,

but a portion of Israel during that

184

:

period, it's going to be delivered.

185

:

But those that God wants to bring,

he's going to bring here in chapter 10.

186

:

What an exciting time.

187

:

Yeah.

188

:

Uh, chapter 11, then all of these

blessings that are going to come are not

189

:

going to immediately come for Israel.

190

:

Uh, because initially they're going to

reject the Messiah at his first appearing

191

:

and they're going to suffer for it.

192

:

And so verses one through three wrath

is coming from God as a result of that.

193

:

Uh, verses four through 10 that the

people are going to reject the, the

194

:

one that is their true shepherd.

195

:

Um, and they're going to put his worth

notice in verses 12 through 13, at 30

196

:

pieces of silver, which equal the amount

of one would pay for a wounded slave.

197

:

Uh, in response to the money is

going to be cast to the Potter who

198

:

was one of the most lowly among all

of the class strata at the time.

199

:

And so this may sound familiar to you

because this is what happens with Jesus.

200

:

In fact, today at church,

we're talking about Judas.

201

:

We're not talking about the actual

betrayal, but we're talking about

202

:

the preparation for the betrayal.

203

:

And that's the one who fulfills this, and

this is alluding to and pointing to that.

204

:

Oh, that rejection of the

Messiah at the first appearance.

205

:

Where they are going to value his

worth at 30 pieces of silver Judas

206

:

goes to the, the, the Pharisees there.

207

:

It's not an accident.

208

:

That that's the number

that they agree upon.

209

:

That's actually in fulfillment of this

prophecy here in Zechariah, 11, 12 to 13.

210

:

And then, you know, they, they take

the money after Judas dies and they

211

:

go out and they purchase, uh, the

Potter's field to bury the ignominious

212

:

people, the unknown people of the time.

213

:

And so there's a lot of, of layers here

of symbolism that are ultimately fulfilled

214

:

in that, uh, that event there with Judas.

215

:

So can you talk then about the

fact that we would see this

216

:

as a prophetic utterance here?

217

:

This is, this is a prophecy that

Zechariah is writing down preserving for

218

:

us, and then, you know, a hundred years

later, or I'm actually more than that.

219

:

But a long time later, we

see this being fulfilled.

220

:

But if you look at this text,

there's nothing in here that

221

:

tells us this is a prophecy.

222

:

How do we know that this

is in fact a prophecy?

223

:

I think looking back, understanding

our doctrine of scripture, being that

224

:

all scripture is God-breathed and

that there's continuity between the

225

:

old Testament and the new Testament.

226

:

We believe in the inspiration of

scripture, we believe that the

227

:

new Testament writers were writing

under the inspiration of the Lord.

228

:

We believe that the events that were

taking place were orchestrated by God.

229

:

So as we consider the entirety of the

Bible, Both old and new testaments.

230

:

When we understand what took place

in the new Testament, we can look

231

:

back at a passage like this, which

contextually is talking about the

232

:

rejection of the Messiah, his first

appearance, and see the parallels

233

:

there and understand, okay, this was.

234

:

Uh, not just happenstance, but

took place in fulfillment of

235

:

these events back in saccharide.

236

:

So even though this doesn't tell

us, Hey, this is a prophecy and

237

:

you know, this is going to be.

238

:

We referenced to the Messiah.

239

:

Uh, because this, this is, this

is Zachariah right now, right?

240

:

This is Zachariah is

the one who is speaking.

241

:

He didn't want to say I

was priced at this number.

242

:

It doesn't say here, by the way, this

is going to be true of the Messiah and

243

:

this many years, but scripture tells

us that this is what's happening.

244

:

And in fact, the fact that they

paid him, the 30 pieces of silver.

245

:

Uh, I think we're led to make the

connection and say, even though this

246

:

is not a specific prophecy, that we

would understand it as, as thus sayeth

247

:

the Lord, this is going to happen.

248

:

This is still evidently a prophecy

that we should say, man, that's really

249

:

cool that we can see these talions.

250

:

Yeah.

251

:

12 to 13 then, um, really 12 to

14 pivot to the future redemption

252

:

and deliverance of Israel.

253

:

Uh, The primary focus of these chapters

is going to be the millennial kingdom.

254

:

Th this is some of the most rich.

255

:

Um, Descriptions of the

future visual that we find.

256

:

This is, uh, there's,

there's a lot of import to.

257

:

Our position is dispensationalist

that we find here in these chapters.

258

:

Uh, verses one through three of

chapter 12, we have a glimpse

259

:

into the battle of Armageddon.

260

:

As all of the world leaders in

nations are gathered against the

261

:

people of God, but verses four

through nine tells us that God wins.

262

:

He wins in the end.

263

:

He he's the one that is going to

be victorious and that's depicted

264

:

for us in the book of revelation.

265

:

But then we get into this chapter

chapter 12, verse 10 through all

266

:

the way down through chapter 13,

verse nine, which really depicts

267

:

Israel's spiritual deliverance.

268

:

And so in chapter 12,

verses 10 through 14.

269

:

The first thing that happens is

that that God gives them a spirit

270

:

of understanding, uh, the spirit

of grace as it is, uh, alluded to

271

:

recalled there in, uh, in verse 10.

272

:

And that spirit of grace is going

to cause them to look back at their

273

:

initial rejection of Christ and look

upon the one whom they have pierced.

274

:

And they're going to more, they're

going to mourn over the error of

275

:

having rejected him and they're going

to mourn and be sorrowful over that.

276

:

And probably more over there.

277

:

The fact that there were unrealized

promises because they rejected the

278

:

Messiah at his first coming and

have endured so much since then.

279

:

And yet at that time, same time in chapter

13, verse one, this fountain is going to

280

:

be open to cleanse them from their sin.

281

:

Where's that going to come from?

282

:

That fountain is going to come from the.

283

:

The blood of Christ.

284

:

Okay.

285

:

So how do we know.

286

:

Oh man.

287

:

Okay, where does this, these verses apply?

288

:

What time in history are we expecting

these verses to come to the fore?

289

:

Well, it hasn't happened yet, right?

290

:

I would agree with that.

291

:

So it seems to be.

292

:

Tribulation period would

be to the 144,000, right.

293

:

So I would agree that that was

going to be my, my, my inclination.

294

:

And that was going to be, my point is to

say, look, we don't, this hasn't happened.

295

:

I don't think any scholar or

theologian is going to argue,

296

:

Hey, we've seen this already.

297

:

We haven't.

298

:

Right.

299

:

Because they're looking on the one who

appears, obviously this is reference

300

:

to Jesus who was raised on the cross.

301

:

We're looking forward to the day when

this takes place, and this seems to fit.

302

:

Best with the church off the scene.

303

:

During the tribulation and the

144,000 takes center stage.

304

:

And this, this is when this happens,

I think, I mean, cause that's what

305

:

the 144,000 are doing right there.

306

:

They're the evangelist.

307

:

There's a revival for,

for, uh, for God's people.

308

:

Israel.

309

:

Which of course is going to lead

us into a different time and

310

:

season of the millennial kingdom.

311

:

I mean, this is, I think this

is so cool and such an important

312

:

point that sometimes we can miss.

313

:

Yeah.

314

:

And that's a reminder to us too,

that the 144,000 are not going

315

:

to be saved any differently than

you were saved or I was saved.

316

:

They're going to be saying great point

through repentance and faith in Jesus.

317

:

It's just going to come during that

period and not before that period.

318

:

Uh, verses two through six of chapter

13 at this time, the land is also

319

:

going to be purged of idolatry.

320

:

False profits are going to be removed.

321

:

And again, this is part

of the judgment period.

322

:

During the tribulation season there

verses seven through nine, the redemption

323

:

is going to cost the true shepherd and

the people as only a third of them.

324

:

Are going to survive the fires and

in torment of the tribulation, that's

325

:

what I was talking about earlier.

326

:

It's not everybody that goes

into the tribulation period.

327

:

Who's a Jew is going to be

part of the hundred 44,000.

328

:

It's a specific number that

God is redeeming out of that.

329

:

That will be as, as Paul calls them

true Israel during that period.

330

:

Chapter 14.

331

:

Uh, during this refining time, the nations

again are going to come against Jerusalem

332

:

and the city is going to fall again.

333

:

And this is the antichrist.

334

:

This is the abomination of desolation.

335

:

This is all of this taking

place here, there in Jerusalem.

336

:

But in verses three through four,

the Lord is going to intervene.

337

:

The Messiah is going to return it.

338

:

This is going to be something else.

339

:

He's going to come down

on the Mount of olives.

340

:

And when he touches down on the

Mount of olives, there's going

341

:

to be a topographical upheaval.

342

:

The, the.

343

:

The valley is going to open up.

344

:

The mountain is going to split

and the people of God are going

345

:

to actually flee into that valley.

346

:

Uh, during the tribulation period,

they're going to be protected they're in.

347

:

And then the Messiah is going to come in.

348

:

He's going to judge, he's going

to, going to vanquish the foes.

349

:

And then the millennial kingdom is

going to be set up at that point.

350

:

And that's what we get

starting in verses nine and 10.

351

:

The Lord is going to reign

over the whole earth.

352

:

The land is going to be flattened.

353

:

So this splitting of the mountain that

seems to have set off, not just that,

354

:

but a lot of topographical upheaval

there because Zion is Mount Zion.

355

:

Well, at this point, it's going

to be zine in the, in the valley.

356

:

It's going to be on, on the, the floor

of this valley that's been created now.

357

:

And a lot of people have said that's

that's to draw ultimately attention

358

:

to it, that everything is going to

be filtered down to the, the city as

359

:

the pinnacle of the area at the time.

360

:

And the Lord is going

to rain from that time.

361

:

Uh, the enemies of God verses 12

through 15, are going to be brought

362

:

to a devastating and through a plague.

363

:

That's going to be.

364

:

Sent out to destroy both man and beast.

365

:

Horrible imagery that he

depicts there with that.

366

:

Yeah.

367

:

Yeah.

368

:

And then verses 16 through 21 there's

those that are left, including Israel,

369

:

but also the other nations that are

left during the millennial kingdom

370

:

there's regulations for worship.

371

:

They're going to come and

they're going to worship there.

372

:

In Jerusalem and show honor to Christ.

373

:

So, uh, yeah.

374

:

The book ends, which is this cool

picture of, of the redemption of Israel.

375

:

This is the millennial kingdom

that we're looking at the

376

:

thousand year reign of Christ.

377

:

So we're leading or

reading a and chapter 14.

378

:

Uh, Jesus coming at the

end of the tribulation.

379

:

Is that right?

380

:

Yes.

381

:

Enter the tribulation leading

into the millennial kingdom.

382

:

Correct.

383

:

And when he comes at the end of

the tribulation, it's going to

384

:

be an a cataclysmic event that

changes the topography that

385

:

we currently see in Jerusalem.

386

:

And that's going to mean he

establishes his rule and his reign.

387

:

And this is going to take us to

revelation, which we're not going

388

:

to read for a couple months, but.

389

:

This is a really cool forward looking

into what we can expect from the future.

390

:

And look at verse eight.

391

:

On that day, living water

shall flow out from Jerusalem.

392

:

Where are we seeing this before?

393

:

Pastor PJ?

394

:

Uh, we've seen that in previous.

395

:

Visions of the temple and

Ezekiel is he Gil's temple.

396

:

This is why we think.

397

:

There's ETL, temple fits best here because

you have Jesus establishing his temple.

398

:

And now the water, the living water

is flowing out from Jerusalem.

399

:

We think has it sourced in the

temple itself, which is ETL talks

400

:

about chapters 40 through 48.

401

:

I believe.

402

:

So this all fits together.

403

:

Now some are going to ask, well, I mean,

other systems look at this and they've

404

:

put the pieces together differently.

405

:

And we would agree that there are godly

men and women who hold those beliefs.

406

:

And we would say, Every, every reader

of the Bible had to say, what fits best.

407

:

And I mean, let's just be honest,

people answer that question differently

408

:

and they have sincere hearts.

409

:

Yeah.

410

:

We think with our sincerity, with

our knowledge of scripture, that

411

:

the way that we understand this

is the best way to understand it.

412

:

We wouldn't believe it.

413

:

If it were different.

414

:

Sure.

415

:

Uh, but we would say our

brothers and sisters who hold a

416

:

different eschatology, different

understanding how this works out.

417

:

Hey man, we love them.

418

:

We think they're wrong.

419

:

And we think this is, this

makes more sense to us.

420

:

Yeah.

421

:

In in on that note I was talking

with, with actually my son recently,

422

:

who was asking me a question

about one of those tier two issues

423

:

with somebody at his school.

424

:

And he was like, dad, what do I say?

425

:

How do I engage?

426

:

This don't even talk to him.

427

:

I treat them as a tax

collector in a center.

428

:

No.

429

:

No, but I did.

430

:

We did have a good conversation

about what, what defines somebody

431

:

as a believer, not a believer.

432

:

And we came back to the gospel

and for him, you know, he's at.

433

:

Prosper high school and,

and there's, there's.

434

:

Not a lot of genuine believers

that he's around there.

435

:

There's a lot of, uh,

of ungodliness there.

436

:

And I said, man, if you've got a brother

in arms with you there, both of you

437

:

working together to push back the darkness

as believers, you know, don't alienate

438

:

them because you guys have a different

opinion over this issue over here.

439

:

And I think there's

something to that for you.

440

:

If you're in your workplace and you've

got a friend in your workplace who has

441

:

a different view of eschatology than you

do, or sign gifts than you do or whatever,

442

:

I think there's room for us to say,

Hey, let's, let's major on the gospel.

443

:

Uh, let's be together for the gospel.

444

:

She started a conference like that.

445

:

Let's do that.

446

:

Um, And, and to, to work together

towards that end and that's.

447

:

Unfortunately.

448

:

W we've gotten that wrong.

449

:

So often we we've, we've made

tier two issues, tier one issues,

450

:

and we've been rendered less

effective as a church at large.

451

:

That we could be if we

joined together on those.

452

:

Yes.

453

:

And amen to that, bro.

454

:

Yeah.

455

:

At the end of the day, uh, the

humility that we should have

456

:

toward one another, especially

about things like this eschatology

457

:

should not be a dividing factor.

458

:

Sure.

459

:

It is.

460

:

It happens all the time because we get

passionate about things and I understand.

461

:

We love our God.

462

:

We have strong convictions and

those convictions come out with heat

463

:

and sometimes very little light.

464

:

And the Christians that God calls

us to be are humble and willing

465

:

to concede things that don't need

to be a fight for tier one issues.

466

:

Yeah.

467

:

Uh, and I think that's the,

that's the takeaway from me here.

468

:

Yeah.

469

:

Let's pray and then we'll

be done with this episode.

470

:

God, we thank you.

471

:

Uh, for that reality that we have

one thing that, that we can all

472

:

agree on and link arms together.

473

:

And in that is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

474

:

So help us to do that.

475

:

God, we pray for more like-minded churches

in our area that you would give us.

476

:

Just good relationships with the

churches that are preaching the gospel

477

:

faith, faithful here with those in our

workplaces and in all over that we can

478

:

say, Hey, let's, let's work together to

be light in the midst of darkness here.

479

:

Um, such an important task for us.

480

:

It's it's why we're still here.

481

:

So.

482

:

Help us to keep the main thing, the

main thing, and not to be distracted

483

:

over in fighting and bickering over

things that at the end of the day, we

484

:

all have to hold somewhat loosely and

same in there's a measure to which

485

:

we, we have to have conviction, but

we're going to hold some things with.

486

:

Uh, white knuckle grip and said, we're

not letting go of the things we're

487

:

going to hold a little bit more loosely.

488

:

And humility saying, you know,

w we recognize that we don't

489

:

have the full picture until

we stand before your presence.

490

:

And even that we're going

to spend eternity learning

491

:

more and more about it all.

492

:

So we pray for that.

493

:

Grace.

494

:

Uh, from you to be able

to have that mindset, that

495

:

humility, we pray in Jesus name.

496

:

Amen.

497

:

And then art y'all keep

her in your Bibles.

498

:

And joining tomorrow for

a new book, asked her.

499

:

Wow.

500

:

But by.
