121: "The bamboo ceiling has partly to do with us because we hold so closely to our culture." Enhancing culture in your local community and practicing respectful assertiveness with Dr. Abby Hamilton
This interview is also available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/kRqRuyD3alY
Dr. Abby Hamilton, also known as "Dr. Abby," is an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist, Higher Education Director, and Vice Chairman of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. She gives us a snapshot of her life in Tampa, FL, what it was like being raised as the daughter of a bishop, performing with a government sponsored dance troupe, a college experience that made her more fired up to be a proud Filipina, and much more.
Dr. Abby also shares her research on the relationship between Filipino culture and assertiveness, which showed that higher Filipino culture is related to lower assertiveness. She seeks to find the values and influences that prevent the Filipinos from reaching higher levels of leadership in their companies and she speaks on respectful assertiveness in life, work, and relationships.
