Speaker:
And now, this week's episode.
Speaker:
Way back in episode four,
Speaker:
I spoke about the importance of editing your podcast,
Speaker:
and I'll link to that in the show notes.
Speaker:
But when it comes to editing, what's the best platform to use?
Speaker:
After all, editing can be pretty complicated, and that's why editors charge the big bucks.
Speaker:
However, you can edit yourself.
Speaker:
And the good news is, a lot of editing software is pretty easy to pick up, or doesn't have a huge learning curve.
Speaker:
So which editor should you use?
Speaker:
If you're looking for a free platform, the three I'd recommend are GarageBand, which comes installed on Mac,
Speaker:
Audacity, which you can download for Mac or PC,
Speaker:
and Reaper.
Speaker:
Now Reaper does have a bit of a learning curve, but there's a great playlist on YouTube from Mike DelGaudio, the Booth Junkie,
Speaker:
and I'll also link to that in the show notes.
Speaker:
When it comes to paid editing software,
Speaker:
there are two that I really recommend.
Speaker:
There's Hindenburg Pro, which I use,
Speaker:
and the great news is it does a lot of the hard work for you.
Speaker:
So, when you upload your audio file,
Speaker:
it will automatically add noise reduction,
Speaker:
make sure the levels aren't too noisy,
Speaker:
and a few other tricks behind the scenes.
Speaker:
You can set it to the default loudness level for podcasts,
Speaker:
which is generally minus 16 LUFS.
Speaker:
The other one I'd recommend,
Speaker:
if this is your first time editing your own podcast,
Speaker:
is Descript.
Speaker:
Now, while it's moved over to video production now,
Speaker:
it's still a pretty good editor when it comes to audio.
Speaker:
And the cool thing with Descript is
Speaker:
it's like using a Word doc or a Google doc.
Speaker:
When you upload your audio file, text appears on the screen
Speaker:
and you simply use that text to edit the audio.
Speaker:
So if you've got words that you want to remove,
Speaker:
you just delete them in the text
Speaker:
and they're automatically deleted from your audio too.
Speaker:
It's a really cool way to edit a podcast
Speaker:
and a lot of podcasters highly recommend it.
Speaker:
And again, I'll leave links to all these tools
Speaker:
in the show notes,
Speaker:
so be sure to check them out after the episode.
Speaker:
Until the next time, happy podcasting.
